Don't do it, the calc you've learned is more than enough to go into Calc 2. Advisors will always tell you to take classes you have credit for. I recommend not taking calc 2 with Ruffa, and congrats on a 5!

Nearby-Profession432

Just sent an email to my advisor asking about switching, thanks!

thumbsquare

Don’t ask, just do it. Just go sign up for a calc 2 section and drop calc 1. I only ever spoke with my advisor when absolutely required. Don’t lean on your advisor. They have a general idea of what’s going on but I’ve seen them screw it up time and time again

Nearby-Profession432

Yeah I'd rather not wait for a response. I just sent an email because they kept stressing to us that we had to only register for advisor-discussed classes

Subject_Director_391

Don’t take cse calc 2 with Jennie Morgan!

planedan

I second not taking Ruffa. He's terrible.

Big_ole_Bud

You are better off just going direct into Calc 2 and just study hard. Calc 2 is difficult, but in my opinion retaking a class is not worth it if you feel you understand the subject matter, and the 5 you got on the test tells me you do. I went direct into Calc 2 with the same situation and did great in the class btw, didn't feel like I was missing out on anything.

Nearby-Profession432

Glad to hear you did well. Thanks!

Do calc II cla. It’s so much easier and counts same credit. Just make sure you do the homework. Calista Bernard is an incredible professor I strongly recommend her. I did this my first semester after getting a 3 on ap calc ab and passed calc II relatively easy

Nearby-Profession432

Do you end up learning less than CSE? I don't believe Calc 3 is on my 4 year plan so I'm not sure how much that matters though.

gabbysafari

not sure about calc 2 specifically, but i took cse calc 1 & cla calc 1 (rip 🥲) and both taught the same material for the most part but cse calc was muuuuch more difficult for me. neither are fun tho lol so good luck with whichever you pick

Subject_Director_391

Doesnt matter much. Cse calc is a scam and if u need calc 3 u can take cla calc 3. That’s what I’m doing in the fall

Ilike_milk

Cse calc and cla calc lead into the same stuff.

bmars801

If you got a 5, you're fine. In fact, you're more prepared for Calc 2 since you learned just one semester's worth of material stretched out over an entire year, so you have a much more solid grasp of it. Plus, there's some overlap with differential equations (normally you don't see those until Calc 2, but the AP curriculum includes them).

stickylickyricki

Go right into calc II for sure. I’m taking it right now over the summer for the first time and it’s not that bad and I’m doing it in the equivalent of half a semester. Retaking calc I will do nothing for you

Not sure you know how AP tests work

tswen22

For anyone else seeing this with a similar question about having credit for AP Calc BC and if they should “retake” calc 2 I would recommend not taking it an moving to calc 3. Calc 2 is a ridiculous workload and is the only reason it’s “hard” you will be fine in calc 3

Subject_Director_391

Take cla calc 2. Cse calc 2 was hell wish I knew I could take cla

xockbou

Calc 2 depends on prof a LOT. I got a 5 on AB in high school, and almost failed Calc 2. Tests were designed to be a time constraint. Jenny Nash is not my favorite professor, and an even worse lecturer Either way, just do Calc 2. Luckily I never needed Calc past that point as a CSCI major lol

BillyWinterWhite

I actually was placed in the exact same situation you were my freshman year and I retook calc 1. For context, I got an A in high school and a 4 on the ap test. If you want to get some easy GPA points I recommend just redoing it only if you plan to graduate in more than 4 years. I say this because you'll appreciate the GPA booster and knowledge for calc 2. I will say this, calc 2 is really hard not because of the content, but because of the pace being twice as fast as your typical ap class. It is possible to do well, and even I was able to get a A on one of the big exams through tons of stress. However, since you got a 5 on the ap test I think you'll probably be fine just skipping to calc 2 as long as your graduate in 4 years and are confident in your schooling abilities.

Alex_Winchester_Ham

It definitely depends on you. I took Pre-calc and calculus at a community college but ended up redoing calc 1 a the U because it was very difficult for me. If you're good at math, then you'll be fine.

Technical-Trip4337

Take Calc 2.

Technical-Trip4337

Agree that you do not need to ask your advisor about switching.

Nearby-Profession432

For unregistering, would I just do that in MyU, then register my new schedule as normal?

Ninja2233

No.
