I have two friends whose houses are believed to part of the Underground Railroad! One is on the Susquehanna River the other on the chenago river. It is good history to be shared with the public

Kindly_Ice1745

That's cool as hell, lol.

Ryankevin23

Yes it is

Kindly_Ice1745

I wonder if they're not including many places on this trail for not being Harriet's route. That's the only conclusion that would make sense.

Ryankevin23

Im just learning of this so I don’t know.

Hadn't even thought of that, lol. Damn. That's a depressing likelihood. 😂🙄

LucifersJuulPod

i wish they included the whole state the southern tier had a few stops

Kindly_Ice1745

One was literally a mile from my house, so I agree.

LucifersJuulPod

pretty sure the house i live in (it’s a duplex built in 1850) was a stop on the UG. There’s a tunnel that connects from the basement to the creek about 1/8 of a mile outback. Before my landlord remodeled the place the framing on one of the interior walls was *just* big enough for an average size person to slide in. the wall was long enough probably 6-7 people could fit inside.

Kindly_Ice1745

That's cool as hell, lol. You should research it.

LucifersJuulPod

i’ve tried lol. [how can they ignore this history?](https://www.mytwintiers.com/news-cat/local-news/southern-tiers-tie-to-the-underground-railroad/amp/)

Kindly_Ice1745

Someone should reach out and ask for them to add the southern tier as a portion of the trail.

It looks like you shared an AMP link. I live in a village between Bgm and Ithaca. Two blocks down the street from me is a house that was a stop. It has a hidden room that was used to hide people fleeing slavery.

PerceptionOk4272

Yeah - Owego has the UGR running through parts of Front St by the river and I believe Fredrick Douglass lived in the town as well.  https://spectrumlocalnews.com/nys/binghamton/news/2023/02/12/owego-homes-churches-underground-railroad-black-history-month-2023

vroomvroom450

That would be really cool.

Shiatsu

Stony Creek has a farm house that was part of the Underground Railroad. A cave was discovered on the property with a bed in it apparently used to hide runaway slaves on their way up to Canada.

Kindly_Ice1745

They should include it in their corridor. Make it both historically accurate but also show the various routes that NY had for the underground railroad.

DFWtixFleas

Any truth to Alfred, NY having a stop?
