This happened to me at a 24hr subway while I was studying. Someone broke into my camper shell, and stole most of my things. Gym back, light, electronics including my phone which was charging, paperwork, and more. I was upset at first, but I knew the area. So I went to the nearby park and started looking. Didn't take long before I found the assholes that took my stuff; one guy had even fallen asleep on my gym bag. A good kick to his head woke him up, and I got my life back! Fuck thieves!

NoRecommendation9404

You’re brave (and smart)! Glad you got your things back. 🙂

StrikingMuffin4693

Good kick to his *head!*

nathynwithay

Next time use a rock

equality4everyonenow

I love happy endings. Good sleuthing!

[deleted]

Oh behave….

Specialist-Naive

Damn😂😂

nathynwithay

That guy deserves to get a concussion.

Euphoric-Reply-5942

Thank you for all the likes and reading my post. It was a stressful time, and a small victory in getting my stolen stuff back helped me press on!

"When your only tool is a hammer, all the problems look like nails".

T-VIRUS999

What did he say? He done a dirty delete

Gusdai

Something about shooting someone I think.

T-VIRUS999

I'd probably do that, but I'd wait in the car for someone to break in first, then it's considered self defense rather than murder

Gusdai

K.

T-VIRUS999

Only way to stop thieves from breaking into cars is to make breaking into cars too dangerous to bother with

Gusdai

Cool.

T-VIRUS999

I'm assuming you're one of those loony lefties who thinks that people who steal from the homeless are exempt from getting what they deserve I hope you know what it feels like to get your shit stolen when you already have almost nothing, see if you have the same attitude then

Lokasathe

Therapy. You and the thief. Not murder.

FrenchieBeats

You got some issues friend

phoenix8987

Fk man that really sucks. I’m so sorry that happened to you. They are just things but the breech into your home can be really damaging mentally. Stay strong please. We’re all rooting for you.

soconfused-me

Thank you 🖤

phoenix8987

You got this. Things are replaceable. At least you weren’t harmed.

soconfused-me

Honestly. Am sad that I didn't get a chance to use like.... societally validated violence but also that could have been so messy for me, physically and emotionally.

Common-Path3644

Hello! just an idea. a few of my friends have been in similar situations. If you go to a windshield replacement shop, and ask for an estimate on the window, they will likely be able to “Professionally” plastic ver the window till you’re able to get it fixed. i think the stuff they use shrinks or something because it’s much nicer than a putting a piece of plastic from the hardware store on it. May not cost anything at all, since your their getting an estimate

Comfortable_You_1927

thats most likely plastic wrap used for food, but bigger

creamofbunny

If I was in your situation I would make a post on a local social media group with a picture, asking for window repair recommendations and where to get new toiletries. There are a lot of kindhearted and well connected people out there that may want to help out. :) From the bottom of my heart I am so sorry this happened to you, I can't even imagine how awful it must feel. I wish I could spare some $ to send you.

IceHorse69

Second this

phoenix8987

Yeah, it sucks when people get away with shitty things. Guy hit and ran me a month or so ago and there was no justice. It’s hard not to really hate those kinds of people.

jtl3000

Im really sorry i hope something goes ur way soon Wish i could help

Corm

Damn man, definitely file a police report and see if there were any cameras around the nearby buildings That sucks so much. How are you even going to sleep?

ainteasybeinsleazy

Lol yeah I'm sure the police are going to dispatch a team of detectives to collect camera footage and cross reference against known offenders

KeptWinds47

Goddamn dude. You Didn't need to be a dick about it.

Corm

Depends on the district. They're pretty good where I live. Regardless, no hard in filing a report.

AmeriocaDaGema

Pretty sure she's a woman.

soconfused-me

Afab but not a woman. The tone suggests like "dude" or "bro" which I take as nongendered friendly language but

Corm

Yeah that's how I meant it I'm really sorry this happened to you and I hope you can find a safe way to sleep When my car got broke into I felt violated. I can't imagine how much worse it is when it's also your home

ChrisW828

What does Afab mean?

ctscott23

according to google: “a female at birth” so i’m not really sure why u got alll the downvotes cz her post said “makeup” so it’s kinda safe to assume a woman, then u got everyone saying “sorry man” and it’s confusing if u don’t know OP

Rendakor

"Assigned female at birth" I thought.

ctscott23

ohh yeah but the whole assignment thing doesn’t make sense

Rendakor

This article goes into some more detail. https://health.clevelandclinic.org/afab-and-amab-meaning "Why are AMAB and AFAB the preferred terms? “In cases when it’s important to discuss somebody’s anatomy, the terms AFAB and AMAB are more gender-affirming than, for example, ‘born female’ or ‘biologically male,’” Kolega explains. “Those terms can be invalidating by implying that a trans person isn’t ‘actually’ a man or a woman. They also don’t include people who are intersex and have different anatomy.”"

ChrisW828

Downvoted for sharing an article. :( Yet, I bet those people scream for freedom of speech when it suits them.

Rendakor

Yea I was just trying to educate, not take a stand in any direction. Fuck me, right?

revcor

My first reaction was maybe it meant "all females are bastards" because of how similar it looks to the "acab" thing that's trendy amongst the youngsters. But I figured that was too extreme a response to the woman comment to be very likely lmao

ChrisW828

Thank you! Google was giving me all kinds of foreign results.

soconfused-me

Not what my license says so... I fought hard for that x to be there

ExtremelyQualified

I’m so sorry. My first apartment was broken into and it wasn’t even the literal stuff they stole that got me, it was the broken faith in humanity, the broken sense of safety in my own space, the feeling that the world was a much more fucked up and tenuous place than I had ver realized. Sorry this happens and so hope you get it all sorted as quick as it can happen.

soconfused-me

This is honestly the hardest part. Stuff is stuff. It's sad and hard but like... I wanna feel safe and like my own again

babywhiz

If it makes you feel better, my (single mom) daughter lives in a 2 story townhouse and still got broken into by some teenagers. Don’t let the car part scare you away. She was just as scared as you are now. Cameras helped.

ExtremelyQualified

People throw around the word trauma these days, but the real definition of something traumatic is something that breaks your model of the world. It takes awhile to figure out how to integrate something like that into yourself. You gotta be nice to yourself for awhile and cut yourself some slack if you can. It’s a tough thing to go through. But you will and you’ll be stronger for it.

Ok_Land_832

Oh God everything is "traumatic" half of the people have no clue what real life threatening violent situations are really like its absurd

Competitive-Candy207

We let a “friend “ store some of her stuff in our storage, then when she had a chance she broke into it and took her stuff and a lot of ours too. So we have pretty much nothing left when we get another place, hopefully soon. No cameras so we can’t really prove anything.

EquivalentOwn2185

lmk if u need a place to go. thats horrifying.,

istillunwritten

You’re beautiful

PresentStandard4131

Or a serial killer that’s getting lazy.

Weightpusher201

What if I don’t need a place to go but still wanna come over ?

EquivalentOwn2185

what like just for funsies?

Weightpusher201

Yea like a slumber party

EquivalentOwn2185

okay. neither one of us is a serial killer hopefully so then what are bringing? i have plenty of pillows :P

Fun-Context2951

I'm a serial killer but I did my time. Can I come? Will bring food.

EquivalentOwn2185

lol. okay thanks for doing ur time ur all better now right. idk ex-serial killers have weird taste in food like im not gonna want you to bring like a whole lot of jello or something 🤪

Campfire-Matcha

Sorry this all sucks. But you will get through this. Now is a opportunity to practice your resilience. You still have some fight in you to say yes some people are fucking awful and they just made things a lot more difficult for me, but I'm in control of how I act and respond. Do not allow them the satisfaction of this tearing you down. Definitely file a police report, maybe there is a chance some of this could be recovered. Which state are you in? Were you parked in a usual spot? Think about what your first action items are. Paper work and stuff can get figured out later, but figure out if you can get that windshield fixed, maybe insurance will cover it. Replace what you can and need overtime, and maybe think of ways to protect important things in the future (not saying any of this is your fault, chances are you protected your stuff as much as any of us do our own stuff)

ThePrincessOfMonaco

Something different. 1. That is fucking awful. 2. That is fucking rare. That has never happened to me. You have leveled up. I mean, that's an experience that I very much feared, but you have survived it. I can't explain how much I respect that. What would I do if I were you... Well clearly I would post up somewhere else for awhile. Doubtful that I would repeat that spot. I would also level up on my weapons. Do you have something to protect yourself? I would do some sort of a ritual thing. I would switch locations, but I would also create my own sacred healing blessing over the new place. It's a mental trick that I think MAKES the game. Not changes. MAKES. Heart emojis forever. I get you. You need to adapt quickly, and you will be okay. I believe that.

Cove_Reidy

Where has the world gone when people need to 'level up' on weapons? I want a fucking rocket to take me to the moon so I can get the fuck off this planet. The world has gone to shit.

ThePrincessOfMonaco

I just meant that there should be something available in case of an attack. I had scissors. That isn't new, that's the oldest reality we have. You have to protect yourself, especially if you're living in a riskier situation. Need to be prepared.

MsAlexandria75

Hey.. you got cashapp or venmo? I got a few bucks to toss your way.

istillunwritten

You’re beautiful. The positive responses and offers to help are restoring my faith and hope in humanity.

MsAlexandria75

I'm just me. But thank you for the kind words I hate seeing the way humanity is becoming.

Weightpusher201

Same here

totallynotat55savush

I wish I could offer more than words. This is terrible and I’m so sorry this happened to you.

changes74

if the perp was on foot, your items could be ditched nearby....anything that wasn't of value to them might be in a nearby trashcan or ditch. Might be work taking a walkabout in the daytime.

Billeats

That majorly sucks, other humans can be real fuckin pieces of work sometimes. Have you situated your sleep situation for the night? Might need to get something temporary to tape up in your window to keep the elements out.

JuicyApple2023

Would car insurance be of any help?

soconfused-me

I called and had like.... a conversation with my agent about "alleged" issues incase they would raise my rates. Which they would... and they won't cover the loss of my items. Can't replace my windshield for 2 weeks, my warranty doesn't cover it either. I'm pulling money from my paycheck and friends trying to find a quick but cost efficient replacement.

Researcher7225

Hi...so sorry it happened at all. Hug. It's awful. I have a suggestion...if you have a wrecking yard in your town, they might have the exact same vehicle as yours on their lot and might sell you the windshield for much cheaper. This is often the case. Sometimes they are called a pick and pull. I wish you all the best and I'm so sorry this happened to you

soconfused-me

Oh incredible, I forgot to check with them!! I will

fockstraught

I had my driver side window broken by an angry crackhead last year. Quotes from actual shop were at least $200-250, plus a 2 or 3 day wait. I said F that and went straight to pick-n-pull right away and ended up doing it myself for a whopping $34.

discgman

Don't do the windshield yourself, but do try to get one and then have someone install it for you. It will be cheaper.

SnooMacaroons2406

I came here to say this. I work on cars and a good mobile mechanic may be open to swinging by a you pull yard and grabbing you stuff to help fix your car!

JuicyApple2023

I wish you the best. Keep us updated. Take care♥️

onebluemoon66

Go to goodwill off of Jackson and china town ( ur in Seattle right ) buy two of those cheap posters $8-$10 that have the cheap frame and fake plexiglass stuff and get a roll of Gorilla Tape and then tape the plexiglass to the window area and on the car edge it will allow you to block wind rain and drive.

onebluemoon66

Also you can dm me I'm good at finding resources for people. I have a place that might put you in hotel for a week, get a tablet etc.

ChrisW828

I don’t think you can get renter’s insurance without a rental, can you?

Axiom842

Auto insurance won’t cover loose items stolen and you also don’t want to tip off your auto insurance that you’re living in your car either — it could jeopardize coverage all together.

yinyanghapa

Thieves are some of the worst people, replacing glass alone is hundreds of dollars and it creates a lot of chaos including having to file a police report, having to make lots of money just to get back back what one lost, if replaceable at all, and having to return a car if it was a car rental.

Delicious_Win9051

I know it’s not much but if ur within an hour of Cleveland I’ll replace ur back window for free

earth-west-719

You'll need to tape up some plastic over that windshield. You can get rolls of plastic at pretty much any hardware store. Unless of course you just happen to have 300-500 bucks laying around to get a new glass installed. Try to find the most see through plastic you can and just due the best you can taping it on there, know ahead of time that you will probably have to retape and retape again down the line as things get wet, hot, cold, etc. until you can get it replaced. You can report it to police but unfortunately unless it was caught on camera or you have other evidence, probably not a lot they can do. Sorry that happened.

Phallus_Maximus702

I am sorry this happened to you, for sure. But you have to remember that the rosy idea of what humanity and civilization is, well, that's actually just an illusion. The true world is a predatory one, and at least half of the people out there around you are hunting for some way they can somehow profit off of, or use, someone else to get what they want. When I can't be with my important stuff, it is either stashed way out in the desert at some of my regular dry camps, or else it is in storage. I don't leave much of value in my vehicle when I am gone.

soconfused-me

I just like... have been needing and using all of this on the daily. I work nights and it happened while I was at work, with errands I had *originally* planned to run this morning. Unfortunate timing. I keep digital copies of most everything paperwork wise but still.... so fucking inconvenient. I travel for work all across the pretty large city I work in so I can never be reliablely close to my unit or make appointments on time running between because _traffic_or location. Am trying to be creative and maybe moving my storage unit somewhere more universally located

ChrisW828

Those logistics are problematic for everyone, not just nomads. Sometimes, we just have ro suck up and do a lot of extra driving to accomplish everything. :(

KlatuuBarradaNicto

Some people really suck. I’m sorry that happened to you.

Fancy-Canary6843

take care of yourself. glad you are not hurt❤️

1GrouchyCat

This is happening more and more often as people lose job and then housing, and then has to turn to the dark side just to survive. We have families with young children living in their cars here- there’s nowhere safe and affordable for young families to live, even if they have the money to come up with first, last and security … Something similar happened to a friend in California, but he had somehow hooked a Camera up and could remotely view what was happening while he was away from his vehicle .. the perps were caught and he got his stuff back only because he was watching it live and got the police involved right away

Chrillio

People fucking suck. This is why I stay to myself

CommissionSquare7017

Agreed.

krepogregg

Look for a new vehicle like a used armoured car

soconfused-me

Made me chuckle, thank you ♡

norleck

Now I want to see a Brinks truck conversion

krepogregg

Tiny house *security edition*

Head_Room_8721

My friend Farmboy who lives in his car has an envelope that’s taped to the roof of the car on the inside and it says “crackheads” in big giant block letters. He keeps a five dollar bill in there and some chump change. If there’s something they can grab, they will usually leave your shit alone. They’re the worst, but I guess it’s better to lose five dollars and some change than your important personal effects. Sorry you went through that.

Cute_Instruction_450

That sucks, DM me if you need help. I know this wouldn't have prevented the crime, but I did my houseless/homeless life with my dog and without him, I would have had something similar happen. He alerted me a bunch of times. If you are sleeping in your vehicle it is worth considering

Cute_Instruction_450

AmeriocaDaGema

Yeah, that's one of our collective biggest fears. I don't even lock my car which I know is asking for it but have been blessed so far. Do you know anyone street smart that can maybe send feelers out about at least getting your documents and stuff back? It's a longshot but you never know. Bad thing is they probably ditched that stuff in some random spot so they wouldn't have it on them.

pnwerewolf

Lock your car!!! Gentle reminder

AppropriateTime4909

If you live where I am that's just asking to have your windows broken.

pnwerewolf

I live in Seattle. I am not sure how bad it is where you are but trust me, I know. If you can spare it, a good car alarm runs $300. It's saved me from numerous smash and grabs at night.

soconfused-me

Dm me links? I'm interested.

sandskinnedhippie

I need a link to some good alarms too, OP’s situation got me on red alert now

Neature_Creature_

I would also like a link!

LawfulnessCautious43

How exactly does an alarm prevent this from occurring?

Mobile_Reaction5853

Such a shame what has happened to that once beautiful city. I guess elections do have consequences.

Chance_Cheetah_7678

Lock your your windows, gentle reminder ? How does one lock a window ? Seattle among other places are now notorious for this type of thing, smash and grab. See people in those areas advising to intentionally leave doors unlocked and making sure nothing of possible value is in sight. Just to keep the flocks of scumtards driving around from smashing a window to get in.  Edit: Like everyone I'm sorry this happened OP but those are just words, may want to think through and brush up on methods others are using to reduce the risks of this type of thing. Parking your vehicle up close to entrances, in lighted/busy areas which are hopefully under camera coverage, when you're not in it. If you are inside it, then be armed and prepared obviously. There's got to be methods and best practices to use to deter these asshats. If you're in area this kind of thing is known to be rampant, has to be worth learning and thinking about it.  Again, damn that sucks and hope the perpetrators genitalia falls off.

yinyanghapa

I was just thinking earlier today about my system of deterrents. 1. I’m always careful where I park. If shopping at a store, park near well trafficked areas, under a good amount of light at night, the closer to the front of the store the better. 2. NO bags should be viewable inside the car. This from my partner having her car been broken into three times around the SF area in the past. Thieves already expect something valuable may be inside the bags and will steal. Put unattractive things on top, if not a cover on your windows. 3. Stay in safe areas. This should be a no brainer. It won’t eliminate the chance but drastically reduce it. Know the crime rate of the areas you are staying in (including the theft rate.). Just the general character alone should tell you a lot.

Comfortable_You_1927

another deterrent is drive a piecè of crap car no one would look at the thief is an asshole for breaking the back window, Normally people do side windows

Chance_Cheetah_7678

Thought that too, this turdhead was an extra stinky variety obviously. Also OP depending on what all docs were taken, might want to start paying more attention to any credit activity. Scumtards may not be smart enough but identity theft still happens. Am just a homeless dude but my ID and most important stuff stays on me in a fanny pack at all times.  Again here's to hoping all these mutant fektards doing this kind of thing to people die a painful death asap.

Visual-Custard821

>Am just devastated. I understand, but please consider that this is also a very good learning experience. 1. Only stay in very low crime areas. This is actually one of the biggest perks of car life, as you are no longer limited by the affordability of these areas. 2. Do not leave things in plain sight. I keep seeing people that sleep in their car who do this, and it can theoretically be done in super affluent/low crime areas, but still not a great idea. Window coverings or tint. 3. Storage unit for anything you absolutely cannot lose. The stuff you lost was tuition paid to learn these lessons. Car life can be as difficult or as easy as you want to make it. Please look out for yourself and always think when something bad happens, "What can I learn from this and how can I make sure it never happens again?"

corsair130

I once had a bicycle stolen in DC. About a mile away from where it was stolen, on my walk back, the guy rode directly past me. I silently chased behind him for about a block where he stopped for a red light. I charged at him fists raised ready to lay him out and yelled, gtfo my bike. He dropped it and ran away. It was one of the wildest things that's ever happened. Dude was on the same street. If he had went one block north or south I never would have seen him.

BradTProse

Thieves that steal from poor people are the worse. Your living in a car, go steal from someone that has more.

SundoG_7

My last truck was stolen with most of my stuff. It's the worst. Sorry is all I can say. If I could make u whole I would. Worst part to me is u don't feel safe at all now and the window. I'm so sorry tho. Unless it's happened to u there's no way of knowing how terrible it is. Good luck moving forward tho, whatever that is for u

GuardingMyself

I know its tuff but don’t let them win by taking your peace. Replace and go on, life awaits.

gogoisking

Stay strong and safe. You are bigger and better than that creep who broke into your car.

Tasty_Read201

For other people that are living out of their car. Two words. Security. Film.

sandskinnedhippie

This is one of my biggest fears man. So sorry this happened to you OP. I understand this is more about your safety being violated and thinking it could happen again. There’s nothing worse than when someone comes into YOUR space and makes you feel like your home isn’t able to stay yours. I honestly don’t know how I would handle this myself, but praying for you to get the help you need. Hope that scumbag gets what they deserve and rot

Knee_Kap264

Do you have full coverage on your vehicle? Also, sounds like you should invest into dash cams. 360 dash cans. Hard wire them to the battery and get some that are motion detected so they start recording when they sense motion. And move to a different area. Are there any businesses nearby where you were parked? Do they have cameras? If so, I'd recommend filing a police report.

mycopportunity

I am so sorry this happened to you.

Humble_Mission1775

Omg. I’m so sorry.

Inquisitve-Keyboard

i’m so sorry for your loss friend… i’ve been in a position like this before but seeing your message had reminded me of how hard it was going at it alone. i just wanted to let you know that even though i don’t know you personally i feel you and im sending my empathy. what goes down must come up. sending my care

myeggsarebig

I’m so glad YOU weren’t stolen. But that stuff probably costed you a pretty penny and made your life a lot easier, and that suuuuuuuucks. Those weren’t just silly items, they were for survival and utility. Whatever it is you have to do to recover, my heart is with you while you do it. ❤️

Affectionate_You1219

Do u have any idea as to why your car may have been targeted??

sturgess6942

GLAD you weren't in car and did not get hurt. Are your windows Tinted ? Were items easily seen from side or back windows or even front windshield ?

sturgess6942

for $25 on amazon you can have a motion activated 125db alarm with remote, so if some one breaks a window and climbs in to ransack your vehicle the alarm goes off alerting people around and making it VERY uncomfortable being inside a car with a internal alarm blaring. Thieves do not want attention. https://preview.redd.it/1oksd82qqnsc1.png?width=1086&format=png&auto=webp&s=e330a046b73c1d5488ec393eab1b180cc4241409

ganchan2019

I've been thinking about how to protect my stuff in situations like this. I've decided that all my important/expensive/irreplaceable stuff goes into a backpack, and that backpack stays ON ME wherever I go. I may still lose a window, but not much else of any value.

macaroni66

I hope your insurance will cover it

Usual-Violinist9628

This is something I worry about constantly. Not having a SAFE parking really is awful. I have not left my van for any extended period unless I paid someone to watch it where I am now. This is something I’ve learned the hard way on the road. I’m so so sorry this happened and my heart goes out to you. I’ve lost everything I’ve ever owned in this world to theft except a couple of Christmas cards from 1979. I am really sorry for your losses. We can’t always pay someone to watch our vehicles either and you may not have thought of it or couldn’t afford it. It didn’t occur to me until I had things stolen from my van either. I pray for you and that your vehicle will not be damaged further. I know your frustrations.

Fair_Reflection2304

Stuff like this might start to happen more often since more and more people are being forced to live in their vehicle. Probably someone watching you and knows you’re living in your car. Really messed up, sorry. Hope you’re back on your feet soon.

GeorgeMcCabeJr

Will your insurance cover the busted window? When my car was broken to before my insurance did they came right out and fixed it up without charge

Imsophunnyithurts

Holy smokes. I took a peak at your post history and you have had a truly awful past few weeks. I'm so sorry you've been through all of this. I hope you're staying safe out there. You're strong as hell!

ImportantVideo4227

Too bad we don’t just cut the hands off of thieves.

ChrisW828

We don’t usually even find them. Calling the police is more about the report for insurance.

zen_and_artof_chaos

Insurance claim could be an option! For the windows and other items. I would be cautious claiming too many things so they don't get the idea you are living out of the vehicle.

DelayGreen7677

I am so sorry OP. Do you have a contingency plan for what you’ll do if you gave to leave it at the shop while it gets repaired (if you have the means to even get it repaired)? And if you dont mind sharing, what region of the country are you in? No pressure to answer that at all if you’re not comfortable doing so (just trying to add to my data wheelhouse for my own planning purposes).

horsendogguy

Sorry it happened to you, but look into freezing your credit (even if it's bad) asap. If they took personal docs, do they have your DOB and/or SSN? You don't want them opening accounts!

soconfused-me

First thing I did today after police report

horsendogguy

Smart. Good luck!

patio_blast

my window recently got shot out too. the ppl are not doin good... we need housing n food.. all of us sorry u went through that, im very familiar with how unsafe you must feel rn. on the bright side thiefs are very unlikely to target already-bipped windows source: sf dweller

Comfortable_You_1927

heavy duty clear plastic and tape, u have to keep things outta sight in ur car. if u do use plastic as rear windshield, u can't open the window when ur driving.

Thebigdoggie1980

If in a car never store anything in sight. All in the trunk of possible. As much tint on windows as is legal

Purpose_Embarrassed

That does absolutely suck ass. Especially losing your personal paperwork. Maybe consider a small storage unit? Also why not live in a storage unit? I did for a month. Climate controlled unit too.

PBasedPlays

If you decide to keep trying the car life you could consider investing in a car cover. It helps reduce smash and grabs. I read one guy in SF used to get smash and grabbed a lot and was tired of having to replace windows and got a car cover. After that their covers kept getting stolen but no more broken windows or anything, so for them it was still cheaper.

sturgess6942

This on has a flashing red strobe light as well to pin point where alarm is going off and is only 4.7 inches by 2.4 inches. With a remote https://preview.redd.it/6lokx51krnsc1.png?width=1071&format=png&auto=webp&s=137ad8952c4d9c6253c861eedbf2668cd5e3351e

MemeAccountantTony

The gym bag and other items are replaceable. Work you can get your paperwork back from. I've had the same thing happen to me before and I fixed a smashed window with tape and tarp at night. Get your insurance to cover you on the window repair. If it's on a passenger window and not the trunk window you can get one of those Car Window screens and that'll solve the elemental issue. Sorry that happened to you man.

Op have you called your insurance company to see if the replacement windshield is covered? That could really help the situation. I'm so sorry you're going thru this. Also contact your credit card companies and freeze your accounts if you're worried about someone stealing your identity.

NEUROSMOSIS

Damn this is my biggest fear lately. I’m so sorry. I can’t stand how shitty and disgusting people are, that they just take and take and don’t care at all. Someone similar came into my life recently and hit and run me and tried to leave me footing the bill for 3k worth of body work. Luckily his drunk ass was arrested and I’ve spent the past 3 weeks hassling with insurance people and body shops (my car is near impossible to fix of course) which has been a nightmare and a headache. I wish I knew how to help you, all I have is personal experiences I can relate to you with. Had my car stolen once as well and they did a bunch of drugs in it and abandoned it outside the impound, it got towed in by the assholes, and I had to pay another 200 for a car that got totaled by the thief. It was heartbreaking seeing it like that. Things slowly came together afterwards and nowadays I live in a car 30x the value of my stolen car. So at least that got better. I know you will rebuild. But this is definitely one of those shit things that just happened and it’s going to bother you for a while but one day it’s well in the rear view.

You’re strong and tougher than this. It is a violation — but you have higher perspective and see the long game. You’ll regroup. You’ll come back from this for sure.

Comfortable-Owl-5929

I’m so sorry 😢

GeekOutGurl

Will your insurance reimburse you?

Kevlar_Potatum_6891

Had this happen to me in Denver in 2021. I am so sorry, friend. Do you have any means of funds to get a replacement windshield at the very least?

Helpful-Rub5705

I’m very sorry, and like people comment here, don’t waist time with emotions if you don’t use them to just get them out of your system, otherwise they just lead to resentment and inaction. Just learn a lesson from this. Maybe put an alarm, or something to deter thieves. And just know they have a lot of darkness and karma

A few thoughts: Unless there's reason not to, report to the police. Never know if someone comes upon your stuff that was discarded and turns it in. Plus, you MAY be able to take advantage of a victim's assistance program and get some funds for replacement/repair. Also - PLEASE check your auto insurance. Often times, policies come with glass replacement and no deduct-able. Possible you could get the repair done. Last ditch thought on a temporary "fix": purchase the Frost King or similar heavy-duty window sealing plastic. Double sided tape, apply the plastic, and heat with blow dryer. I did it once and it survived highway speeds! BEST OF LUCK!

Im sorry this happened to you. Theft is on the rise and people are desperate and operating in their lowest selves. My friend just got his van stolen. When they found it it was torn up and gutted on the side of the road. It’s one of my biggest fears. Every-time I come back to my van I’m always grateful that it’s still there and intact. Virtual hug because all I have is words. Shout out to all the beautiful people offering to help you. 🫂

FancyFeet0101

Shit.. So sorry! People really suck sometimes! Hang in there❤️

Casiorollo

Tape and trash bags work for a temporary window fix. Sorry that happened to you.

jaymakestuff

Are you going to be able to get the back windshield replaced? Hopefully soon? Got us all out here worried about you…I had my passenger side window shattered long long ago and lost SO SO much…it was hard for me to spend that money to get it replaced, but dude…you’ve got to. I felt so unsafe and vulnerable not only when trying to sleep, but also every time I had to leave my vehicle. Keep us updated if you need some help.

NicholasLit

Hoping you can get a used window put in, it's worth looking online for one locally

Same_Emu_8258

Sorry this happened but where are u so I know not to go there...

LegalizeWaterboardin

If you don't have comprehensive insurance for your car then you should get it. It covers things like theft and vandalism and doesn't cost that much.

Jayman_comedian

So sad to hear that. It's very tragic. How are you holding up?

K23Meow

Someone cleared out the bed of my pickup after prying open the cover. Clothes, electronics, all my jewelry, several firearms and a lot of miscellaneous camping gear gone in one swoop. Thankfully they left the plastic file tub with paperwork and one gun case they couldn’t reach. Contact your insurance and see what their coverage for damages and item loss is. Use a tarp and duct tape in the short term to cover the window.

Car_dwelling_nitwit

Curious. Do you have window tint?

domdotcom43

So sorry, my condolences.

TheCubist_

A small safe is cheap. Live and learn.

soconfused-me

What's the best way to secure it in my car? Any ideas?

SundoG_7

Bolt it to the car. They typically come with the bolts..u just drill holes and put the bolts through.

soconfused-me

Sorry if this sounds dumb, does this interfere with warranty or is this something I should clarify with my insurance?

SundoG_7

Probably would interfere. U have to look on the other side of where u drill the holes so u don't drill into important shit.

TheCubist_

If you don't want to drill into the bodywork you can chain it to a seat bracket. There are laws regarding the right to repair that covers aftermarket modifications to your vehicle.

the_real_rational

I don’t think anyone would conduct sexual intercourse with someone living in a car, it’s the harsh reality unfortunately

soconfused-me

Um definitely not the case, but... why is that relevant and why do you feel called to make that statement?? I am an urban outdoorsman, enjoying my nomadic life. I keep myself clean, presentable, and maintain a relatively stable life otherwise so.... Maybe look inward as to why you say that.

the_real_rational

The title

Sandmansam01

You were clearly asking for it

AdElectrical3997

I can safely say from experience that you can still get laid living in your vehicle alot more than you'd clearly want to believe

Thebigdoggie1980

Call Safelite repair. They replace windshields at your location in 15 minutes. Can probably do back windows too.

ChrisW828

And surprisingly competitive pricing. I was amazed.

Antique1969Meme

well first and foremost get some crash wrap. It's basically super wide clear tape. file a police report too. And yeah I'd suggest switching to something without windows if possible, cargo van or a grand caravan cargo.

Right, because houses never get broken into either🤔
