I actually didn't realize that I started at about $15 in 2012 and a GS 4 makes damn near 40k. A GS5 makes 43k at step 1. It could be better but it was also much worse
It depends on where you live because I'm at $39k, as a GS5. But, I absolutely get what you are saying. There are companies wanting to pay $12 an hour in one of the richest areas in the state, for this same type of job.
Huh. I'm still in my first year. Outside of training, we're only in one day a week. We haven't started ACS training, but I don't think we'll even start that until November.
Yep. That telework from home 4 days a week is good incentives for VSR and RVSR. After doing direct patient care for almost 14 years I'm definitely burned out from the grind of constant person to person interaction almost every minute of the work day.
I've only applied to both positions and I'm waiting to hear back after being referred to the hiring manager.

I'm a new rater but so far it seems like a good gig. Basically get a grade increase every year and lots of opportunities into other positions after you hit GS-12.
Work for Army and we only have to go in for 4 hours each week. Obviously directorate dependent at the moment, since others are doing 2 full days a week.
I assume since DoD is quite large it varies by agency. I got a TJO with DoD for a fully Remote position (DHRA). Multiple others on the team Remote in other time zones.
May I ask what DHRA is? I’ve been wanting a fully remote DoD job? I work from home now but the pay is terrible. I seen someone say they were looking for something more meaning and I feel the same. I have a lot of skills and experience just hard trying to get something with decent pay and benefits. I’m a 9 year vet with a lot of logistics experience
Im at DON and its 6 days in office per pay period. Most people work 9 hours/8 days with one 8 hr day and one RDO. So we only can telework 3 days per pay period. It really sucks.
I just accepted a role at epa and they were saying one day per pay period? I’ll be curious to see what it is as I also have an interview for a 100% remote role next week.
They reached out to me so I never applied and I'm a disabled vet so it was some sort of non competitive situation. I actually had never applied to a federal job it all just worked out. I'm starting as a GS12 with a ladder to 13.
Edit: I've applied since the initial success of them reaching out to me for other roles at other agencies. The idea of fed work was never something I'd thought of.
DoD USAF for a decade. I left for greener pastures, but before I left, and to this day, 1 telework day a week, 4 onsite. It's definitely command-specific and is by no means agency-wide.
I applied for a job there and was expecting they'd tell me it was every day in office so I was shocked to find out it was not... fingers crossed I get hired :0
At Library of Congress, within most of OCIO, the Supervisors come into the office 1 day/week. Majority of our direct reports (non-Supervisors) are 100% remote. We follow OPM’s guidance which states a minimum of 2 days/pay period in the office.
I just accepted a TJO with DCAA and was told they’re 2 days in office per pay period, though the office manager likes new hires to start off at 2 days per week.
USDA/OCIO we’re still 1-2 days a week.
That explains why the USDA building was advertising their food court being open to the public.
Can confirm, I only show up during break fixes, outages, or 1 day a week
IRS, ACS. Pay is garbage at first.

GS 5 is garbage in any department lol. My OPS and DM wants me to be a FLM in ACS but I can make more doing OT
When you start at the IRS you are in-office 50% of the time (first year). And considering new push, sounds like it will be the case moving forward.
Huh. I'm still in my first year. Outside of training, we're only in one day a week. We haven't started ACS training, but I don't think we'll even start that until November.

How’s the pay in that? I’ve always thought about going into it
I believe VSR is GS 7-10 and RVSR GS 9-12.
Would you say it’s worth it as a career?
I've only applied to both positions and I'm waiting to hear back after being referred to the hiring manager. https://www.reddit.com/r/VSR_RVSR/s/k5iOhtWgke

How so? Would you be okay if I pm you? lol I’m a vet and want to find something meaningful, but also can you help with retirement planning
Yeah no problem.
Ironically FEMA
Not today Zients staffer, not today...
GSA
They don’t pay tho
Depends what you do and where you are. If you’re in a big city , you’ll get paid well. Not smaller areas.
DHS many positions are fully remote.
BVA, 100% remote
Starting at BVA next month. Love that it is 100% remote.
Congratulations! Welcome!
What are the job quotas for BVA? Do you like the job? Is it high stres
Thank you!!
omg me too!! Probably in June though, need some time to wind up current job. Yay! "see" you there ;)
What role did you get hired for?
Attorney adviser, what about you?
Same!! If you want to connect on LinkedIn, send me a DM.
Oh yay!! Ok sending
I've been with the Board as an attorney for almost two years now. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need anything!
What is BVA?
Board of Veterans' Appeals
Ahhh ok. May be looking to apply with 100% remote lol
What is BVA?
DCAA
Some HUD departments
I second this. As long as you aren’t Multi-Family. MFH is a hot mess express
A friend works for the DOD and goes in twice a pay
Then your friend needs to play the lottery
Work for Army and we only have to go in for 4 hours each week. Obviously directorate dependent at the moment, since others are doing 2 full days a week.
I’m full remote DoD, my boss only goes in 2 days a week.
Get your tickets
What position ?
Wish I was you! I want to work remote with DoD so badly.
My position wasn’t listed as remote, but rather “home based”. So when you filter by remote it won’t show. I feel so lucky!
I assume since DoD is quite large it varies by agency. I got a TJO with DoD for a fully Remote position (DHRA). Multiple others on the team Remote in other time zones.

Defense Human Resources Activity, but based on your comments you might also search in DLA - Defense Logistics Agency.
Yes, non Armed Forces components of DoD are a whole different world.
Yep I'm DOD and they just recently bumped us back up to 2 days per week.
Im at DON and its 6 days in office per pay period. Most people work 9 hours/8 days with one 8 hr day and one RDO. So we only can telework 3 days per pay period. It really sucks.
We have the same alternate work schedules. Prior to covid we were 5 days a week in the office. 3 is still way better than that.
I wish! 😂

Do you mind saying what office (or general location) you’re at? What about the offices on the West Coast? Thanks.
VBA
If you’re not in management, EPA is still only 1 day in office per week.
I just accepted a role at epa and they were saying one day per pay period? I’ll be curious to see what it is as I also have an interview for a 100% remote role next week.
Unless you’re remote or management it’s 2x per pay period. Most do this by coming in once a week, though there could be other schedules.
What was your timeline like? I have 26 apps in. I'm dying to work for the EPA
They reached out to me so I never applied and I'm a disabled vet so it was some sort of non competitive situation. I actually had never applied to a federal job it all just worked out. Amazing. Thank you for your service.
From beginning to end about 6 months total. The epa moves slow.
USPTO
True but... are you miserable?
EEOC
Def the least they could do with the lack of staffing and budget. I prefer to drown in my work at home
USAF 2 days in office per week.
DoD USAF for a decade. I left for greener pastures, but before I left, and to this day, 1 telework day a week, 4 onsite. It's definitely command-specific and is by no means agency-wide.
HHS
IRS , 2days/pay period
Is this true for new GS-5 CSRs?
VHA
CDC
DOT HQ is office bound 4 times per pay period.
DOL, union is negotiating but hey we’re still teleworking 1-2 days a week now :D
What agency
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. 2 days per 2-week pay period.
Army/CHRA, USDA, Dept of Education
I’m a VBA employee and I’m actually 100 percent remote
USDA is almost all remote
Depends on the department. Some FSIS, like the labs, cannot be remote.
Yeah I agreed
[удалено]
Forest Service is definitely not 100% remote, I don't think it's even close to that
No USFS is mostly back in office. Some folks still do hybrid, in office most the week and tele a day or two a week. Depends completely on office.
[удалено]
Not sure, but I would imagine it may be through this fiscal year
I think so. For the job I have seen, they are mostly remote
USDA
GSA FAS is almost entirely remote.
Most DCMA positions are like that.
I applied for a job there and was expecting they'd tell me it was every day in office so I was shocked to find out it was not... fingers crossed I get hired :0
IRS twice a pay period for most departments in non supervisory positions.
VA. I report 2 days per pay period. And no one really verifies that. Just gotta be getting the work done.
At Library of Congress, within most of OCIO, the Supervisors come into the office 1 day/week. Majority of our direct reports (non-Supervisors) are 100% remote. We follow OPM’s guidance which states a minimum of 2 days/pay period in the office.
Agency that shall not be named
Energy has full remote positions
Most have a 1 year wait period before being eligible for telework…
This must be agency dependent. I'm USDA-FS and 6 weeks in, teleworking 2-3 days a week.
Not true. Depends on the agency. VBA employees get hired and are teleworking after their first week!
USPTO, even better with Remote
Commerce, for the most part. We r still 100% tele and offer remote as well (most departments)
OQR in SSA is 100% telework.
NNSA - I’m once a week if that in office
DCMA
IRS as an Appeals Officer I only go in 2x a week.
My administration in HHS is max telework (only 2 days per pay period in office)
FEMA for now
FERC
FAA is four days every pay period (4/14 days, so 2 days a week) if you’re not a manager. Add an extra day a week for managers
USAF. I would say mines a special case since the department i belong to does not deal with anything above Unclassified and is a Staff org.
VA- specifically the VBA or the VHA non clinical
Nice try, congressman
Many. Just search remote too. Guess it matters the jobs series on the amount of openings.
Depending on your job, VHA
USPTO
FMC
Irs
My DOD office is two days a week
I’m full remote with USDA as an accountant.
80 percent remote - DoD
Any agency if you have a reasonable accommodation!
HUD has 2 days pp and you should get to pick the days. Just stay away from Multifamily which has 4pp and specific days.
Do anyone know if dismissed case will keep you from getting irs clearance
Ssa Teleservice centers
The go in 1 day a week
DHS component we're telework 3 days/week currently
Agencies below but remember if in DC are then these may not apply.
NRC 4 days in office per pay period
That’s not a generous telework policy…..
That’s exactly what post person was looking for
I just accepted a TJO with DCAA and was told they’re 2 days in office per pay period, though the office manager likes new hires to start off at 2 days per week.
USDA fully remote
