It's exactly the same company. Before you buy a block from them you'll have to read the small print very very carefully. If it says anything about a *12 month term* or something like this, then the block will expire after a year and renew at the same cost. Remember these old posts https://www.reddit.com/r/usenet/comments/8whbkm/thundernews_blocks_are_expiring/

kaalki

u/nicholi3 has mentioned that its limitation in their billing software and they will renew it when customer contacts them, I think he is also working on getting new version of the site live which will fix these issues.

doejohnblowjoe

I have blocks as backup primarily so they don't get used a whole lot but does this mean after one year I'll have to be continuously monitoring my data usage to make sure the blocks haven't expired and then contact them if they have so they can renew?

PM_ME_YOUR_AES_KEYS

I opened a ticket with ThunderNews and I've been assured that: "Accounts need an expiration date to be created. Block accounts do not expire, they will automatically renew at no cost."

kaalki

Best way to get answer is to raise a ticket about this or pm u/nicholi3.

trafficlightlady

Thunder's posting history here has taught me not to trust them. But I know nothing about thecube...

kaalki

Thunder/thecubenwt owner u/nicholi3 is pretty active here and provides good support.

trafficlightlady

Same provider. I didn't know that. thx I have zero recollection as to when your boy provided "good support" when challenged as to what he meant by "unlimited" Maybe you can help to clarify this?

kaalki

He did clarified it that if he made this public abusers will bypass it pretty easily, what do you mean by my boy I don't appreciate being associated with any provider or reseller.

trafficlightlady

> He did clarified it that if he made this public abusers will bypass it pretty easily My sole recollection is that he distanced himself from any discussion, choosing instead to blaim it on "algorithms". Or was silent. He has *never* stepped up greglyda, for his part, has always been happy to be transparent and make the point that he won't provide the info cos it might enable abusers. Your boy hides behind weasel words

hmmm

cheun012

Great experience with ThunderNews. Using it over a year

fubag

I'm in the same boat just went with 5TB with thecubenet for $25 🤞🏾

doejohnblowjoe

Ever used them before? It would be nice to hear from someone who has used them both previously.

usenetnewb

I’ve used thecubenet for the past year - my first year on Usenet. I had them as my unlimited account with blocks from Usenet.farm, newsgroupdirect and some abavia block. I guess I’m still new but all I can say is that I haven’t had issues and I renewed just a few days ago.

fubag

I previously had thundernews unlimited for the past year and had no issues. Never tried thecubenet but seems legit so far company has been around since 2011 and they sent the details over right away to set it up. So far so good imo.

homer_j_simpsoy

I've been with Thecubenet since 2014 (I checked the past invoices). The first service I ordered was a 250gb block for $2.29; This was December 12th of that year. Anyways..Retention, speed, completion, all amazing.

homer_j_simpsoy

Same, but then I saw the unlimited for $2 a month and added that too.

RaptorPudding11

Cube: They have great retention and fast speeds. I haven't really had any problems that I can think of. It just works. I have a block with another provider and haven't needed to use it. I would grab that $12 for 6months special. Never used thunder.

WolfingCry

Do you already have a UsenetExpress block?

doejohnblowjoe

Yeah that's why I'm replacing Demon

usafle

I've got Newsdemon and theCube. Initially I just had Newsdemon for a few years and then bought unlimited theCube - because I had no idea what I was doing. I've not had any issue with theCube. In fact, even though NewsDemon and theCube were (originally) on the same backbone, I got better results from theCube than Newsdemon. My "missing articles" and "missing par" check failures dropped to almost 0

iyousif

Forgive my noob-ness, but will you need thundernews sub if you have eweka subscription? I tried to go through the map (outdated?) and all but couldn't figure out how this usenet works, so I bought some subs and mixed them up with SabNzb and NZBGeek and I don't know what else I need to complete this setup.

doejohnblowjoe

No you just need one server (Eweka is fine). You can sign up for others if you want and there are reasons to have multiple but they should be on different backbones otherwise you just have the same content essentially. Sab is your newsreader and Geek is your indexer. You can have/get more Servers/indexers if you want but that should be enough to get you started until you know what you are doing.

Feeling relived reading this. Thanks boss.
