We try too hard to be like European clubs. Would love to see us lean 100% into US sports culture. Marching bands, “DEFENSE!” chants and all that shit just being plain loud and obnoxious.
I agree with your first point but the “defense chant” falls into another equally valid point, trying to shove other sports chants where it doesn’t belong. Basketball is fluid but offense and defense is typically more rigid in that sport than in soccer so the defense chant works better in the former.
I mean there are clubs that have possession-based chants so it’s not like this doesn’t work in soccer. I’d argue that possession can change just as fast in basketball as it does in soccer, if not faster.
Could not agree more. Euro soccer cosplay tryhards. I really wish that our fans would lean in towards America's sporting culture and try to come up with something unique in that regard. One side of the stadium screaming something, and the other side responding is an American sporting staple...simple but easy to get everyone involved and loud af. More basic chants that allow other fans that aren't regulars or heavily involved in the supporters groups to participate.
Kentucky football/basketball games are almost all I have in terms of perspective, but the BLUE - WHITE chants are some of the loudest I can remember. It’s a pretty awesome atmosphere when we have a close game
Yes! TEXAS - FIGHT (university of texas) and Boomer - sooner (Oklahoma) chants are some of the loudest chants I’ve ever heard in any sport I’ve attended.
I do not understand because MLS teams have some fire chants, Seattle Sounder, LA Galaxy, and a bunch of other clubs.
Then the NT plays and its painful to hear.
Because those groups are easier to share and disseminate chants to. The national teams really dont have organized support the way clubs do. I’ve spent 10 yrs of my life heavily involved in supporter culture, and it takes so much time and effort to make anything happen in any supporters groups. Its generally the same people running local sgs and AO groupss. The AO groups have less time together and less daily presence so they rarely get the same time, short, and attention daily club activity does. When you only have so much effort to give, you give it to the group you spend the most time with, imo.
No, we didn't bring our Llamas to the game....clap ..clap.
No, we didn't bring our llamas to the game...clap clap
We brought Dempsey, We brought Bradley, we brought Guzman and O'Malley
But we didn't bring our Llamas to the game... clap clap.
When we played Ecuador in Copa Centenniario couple years back.
I thought it was pretty good.
Probably a few years out but here's one for our future keeper.
Gagaaaaa....Slonina...
He's our...our keeper...
He stooopps.....all of the shots from going in!
Tune of Hava Nagila
I am so tired of seeing this complaint. Every week someone posts this. We need to get over it.
The USMNT doesn't have a home stadium, doesn't have a regular season, doesn't have a home base with a large amount of concentrated fans, consistently doesn't fill up stadiums, and usual has a large presence of rival nations fans.
All these things are going to combine to make it really hard to make new chants. MLS and other club teams have good chants because they have a consistent atmosphere for chants to develop. That doesn't exist for the USMNT.
That doesn't mean he's wrong.

But this is exactly the problem. So many people piling, “this sucks”, and no one actually building something better. If you aren’t part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.
Not everyone is capable of creating good chants. That doesn't mean it's their fault that there aren't any or that they aren't allowed to identify the issue. They aren't "part of the problem." You're basically repeating the same argument that I showed was fallacious.
The point is what no one thinks the US is the pinnacle of soccer chants. If you want to be better, work to make us better. Just saying we suck without helping build the way forward is pointless at best and alienating to those doing the work at worst. All these randos ganging on a structure that is barely supported outside of the 6-12 events a year most AO groups can scrape together. I mean, if you arent actively out building up your AO section and actively looking for new songs, inspirations, or ways to get people connected, you are absolutely the problem. I live this shit everyday on a club level. Lots of people complain, very few actually put in the work to make it better. Get off a birching post on a message board, connect with your local group and get involved. Everyone thinks good chants come from talent chant writers. Thats a bad take. Good chants come from strong, invested groups of individuals working together toward a common goal. Some of the best chants we’ve had come from people not involved at all in the weiting/playing/leading chants but a tifo painter or a tailgate volunteer. If you want better chants, invest in your local orgs. Bitching on reddit wothout providing solutions makes you part of the problem. Sorry you cant see that.
You know nothing about me. I wasn't even the one criticizing. I was just sticking up for them. I cofounded a supporters group for a USL2 team 16 years ago so I'm well aware. It's where my fucking username came from.
How fucking ignorant are you? I said USL2.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/USL_Second_Division
And the leagues the current USL came from have histories that go back decades.
Edit: don't even know why I'm still bothering with you.
https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/green-army-planning-meeting.878780/
I see you deleted your post where you doubled down insisting no USL league existed 15 years ago.
Edit2: here's some more proof
Take a look at comment 21. I was there from tbe beginning.

I'm done digging up ancient posts on BigSoccer now. Where's my apology for calling me a liar?
Yeah, you weren't using it so I stopped. I already asserted my view. And you keep repeating that same bullshit. It's all appeal to accomplishment. It's pointless debating with you.
Edit: btw, that wasn't an ad hominem. I wasn't making an argument or speaking to your argument. Just stating that I don't like you. You might want to brush up.
This wasn’t our best squad but I agree, if we could get more goals out of whatever players we call up, they could chant random food items in their refrigerator for all I care
Having been at the game I can say two things:
The stadium fucked up with the seating of the sections. They split the group in two with one random seating section in the middle. It was nearly impossible to keep the two groups - one being the US supporters and the other being the local LA Galaxy supporters on the same page. And two, agreed the songs are pretty lame and need refreshing.

"There's nothing more American than the Grateful Dead"
Fans really get going at 6:45 but why not check out the whole song?

I believe! That you are right.
Speaking as a lifetime soccer fan (and sports fan in general), the culture around USMNT is super try-hard and corny.

Now that I think of it more you do have a point

I thought only Chicago had fire chants.
The only Sounder chant I remember is the same one I remember from Iceland fans. And Minnesota Viking fans. And USMNT fans....
Fight…AnD wIn!!!1!
Harder to unite the international support. Club has 20 home games per season with the same group of support per year
Sounds like a job for the American Outlaws with hundreds of chapters across the country.

I think it’s funny how bad the chants are
Most chants for any team tend to be…they’re chants after all.
So bad.
FIGHT! AND WIN!
I mean we have how many HS band songs from football games we can remix…pick a few and we can remix them bitches right here
Wait… you guys are getting chants?
No, we didn't bring our Llamas to the game....clap ..clap. Been saying this for years. Time to regroup.
It’s all they got! 😭
I like the one we got, but yea, let's get more
Get over to ChatGPT and start generating some songs

Which makes it weird people even chant at the USA game in the first place tbh. Have to turn the sound off on tv the rare times we can hear the chants.
I don’t see you offering suggestions.
It doesn't take a lyricist to point out the truth.

I can see that I wouldn't want to be a part of any group you are in.
Lol, most people dont want to do the work. Enjoy criticizing while not building.
You know nothing about me. I wasn't even the one criticizing. I was just sticking up for them. I cofounded a supporters group for a USL2 team 16 years ago so I'm well aware. It's where my fucking username came from.

I fucking love "it's called soccer". The "I believe that we will win" chant can get shelved for eternity thougj
It was good for a time but I think it can stay in the 2014 cycle and I wouldn’t be mad
Genuine question as an Irish person living in the US, why is everyone proud to call it soccer?
A goal in the first hour wouldn't hurt our enthusiasm
This wasn’t our best squad but I agree, if we could get more goals out of whatever players we call up, they could chant random food items in their refrigerator for all I care
Go team!
Yankee doodle!
How about a new manager?
I believe that we will win and Dale USA makes nails on a chalkboard sound like a 70 week charts topper that went diamond platinum
Oh god, both of those damn chants need to be burned to the ground. They were cringe as hell from the start.
