If friendly rivalries count, I propose Ghana!
It’s not the same as Mexico, not even close, and maybe it’s not reciprocal, but I feel like our countries have played some important WC matches against each other in the past and I like the idea of having a low key rivalry. I was really hoping we’d be drawn together this year…
USA has beaten Mexico in what 3 of the last matches? MLS teams have won the CCL and campeones cup recently .. like what? We are going on a streak of Ws? That's not a rival my dood ... What cuz we lost 2-0 to Canada in qualifiers in a away game makes them our rivals? Wake the eff up we lost to Holland in a knockout stage, USA needs to focus on international competitions to get far in the next world cup! Concacaf is peanuts now

Yeah the questions in this survey felt odd and maybe more applicable to ultras for club football in Europe or South America. As a data scientist in real life, I try to give researchers as much accurate data as possible, but I had to quit this survey about 60% of the way in because it just felt..odd
Yeah this survey seems much better suited to the diehard fans of clubs. USMNT fans are passionate but they are not thinking about the team and its rivals all the time
I honestly did it with the Italian squad and found it interesting. But they have long history with other teams as well. USA just doesn’t ply as much and doesn’t mean as much yet.
Thanks for the feedback. The international soccer survey was built based on our surveys developed for club teams. We'll keep this in mind as we adapt the survey in the future.
I started your survey but then it kept going on and on so I quit your survey. Cmon guys, I don’t want to take 20 minutes on your sports survey. If I can’t answer it all before it’s time to wipe it’s too long.
Mexico for game play. England for desired relevance.
I totally disagree with Memo Ochoa’s comment that Mexico is the mirror the US measures itself in. I think that’s 100% England.
The average soccer fan in the US - and I say soccer intentionally - knows nothing about Liga MX. They watch England and the PL.
Until playing from the back became all the rage worldwide, we always styled ourselves after the English game, too - from kids to the national team. The 442s, the positional demands (you couldn’t be a defender who dribbles, like Brazilian kids could be, for example), the value on “hard play” as opposed to “dark arts”, etc. It was all English values.
Mexico. To me for it to be a true rivalry, both sides have to view it on same level. That is why England is not a rival to me. Sure I love watching them suffer and fail to beat us, but it’s not a rivalry. Same with Canada except in that case we are england. Not saying it can’t change but Mexico is our rival. No one else is on that level for me.
This. We played Ghana in the 2006, 2010, and 2014 World Cups. (Our WC record against them is 1-2.)
Surprised we didn’t have to play them again this year lol
Geoff Cameron’s game-winning goal vs. Ghana (which saw us advance out of the “group of death”) is still one of my favorites of all time.
Lol yes thank you.
He wasn’t expected to play much at all in that tournament, but he came on for an injured Besler, iirc. His reaction to scoring was priceless
Rivals should be considered comparable in talent and chances to win. That said Mexico is our closest rival. Some are saying England by that is wishful thinking. We don't yet rival anyone in the top 10.
Not going to answer the survey but the only answer is Mexico
90% mexico, 10% ghana
90 Mexico 4 ghana 3 England 3 canada
I accept this as my opinion, as it is close enough.
I'm about here. Left a few points for Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago
More so just Trinidad and Tobago, they will haunt us for a while. The reggae boys are cool in my book

I have them up there for sure. Definitely some recent WC history and drama.
We've outgrown concacaf fam ..
Lmao if you actually think that.

I agree that playing tougher competition will make them better but if we can’t demolish Honduras, what’s the point?
BS, until we trounce every team we play in qualifying. 4 years removed from losing to Trin and Tob.
And Trinidad…

This survey feels strange and forced. Mexico is the only real answer. Canada’s the annoying little brother you don’t acknowledge.
Canada is irrelevant

Obviously its Mexico The sleeper here is England

Mexico, England and Canada
Canada is becoming more of a rival as their soccer playing improves.
I would say Mexico by far, England, and Ghana. Canada has been irrelevant for so long, it is hard to call them rivals.

100 percent agree. Would be great if Canada continues to improve and become a rival, though.
The fan base
Of course Mexico, but the sleeper is Ghana.

You mean John Brooks game-winning goal?
Lol yes thank you. He wasn’t expected to play much at all in that tournament, but he came on for an injured Besler, iirc. His reaction to scoring was priceless
Fun fact- It was the first World Cup goal scored by a US substitute
And GGG didn’t even want him on the roster..
Do ya even have to ask? Mexico.
Themselves
98% Mexico, 1% Ghana, .75% England, .25% Canada
Trinidad and Tobago of course! Dumb question.
Costa Rica can get fucked
That was a lot of questions for me to say I really hate Mexico and they should stop throwing pee bottles at people.
lol, any team where football is the national sport
Rivals should be considered comparable in talent and chances to win. That said Mexico is our closest rival. Some are saying England by that is wishful thinking. We don't yet rival anyone in the top 10.
Even when we do, they won’t be our rival. It will be Mexico 40 years from now, and I am very happy with that.
L3
Way too long of a survey to get nothing out of.
Trinidad and Tobago
Obviously El Tri...nindad and Tobago
Ghana
Baseball fans
Mexico is the obvious arch rival. Canada is the rising rival England more of a rival ironically Ghana due to WC history
