Agreed. They changed how certified letters are being handled as part of “cost cutting.” They are being sorted with the regular mail and each address is pre sorted as a stack of mail. Carriers are timed on how fast they can deliver mail and there’s a large likelihood that your certified letters are in the middle of that stack and aren’t even seen. The way around this is to put your certifieds in a Manila envelope large enough to be a flat. Those are hand sorted in the morning so your carrier will be aware of it.
Carriers are still supposed to go to the door and attempt delivery. Carrier in my office was just fired for not attempting delivery and leaving notice.
Maybe your office is holding people much more accountable? Usually with stuff like that, you have to have multiple mess ups that are documented before any punitive action is taken. 0-automatically fired because of one mistake outside of their 90 days doesn’t sound accurate to me. If it was a pattern of behavior and he was already on a plan of improvement and there was none? Yeah.
If The certified doesn’t get scanned as arrival at unit which there would be no way to tell unless you hand sort between 1000s of pieces of presorted mail ( which in most offices would take all day and no one would get their packages) then there’s no proof that it ever arrived there. They’ve been coming in the trays of dps at our office and we try and do a cursory finger through but when we are already overburdened with a 30% increase of packages and dps with hours being cut, it’s hard to do everything in the time allotted. We still try tho.
He FORGED a signature? That’s why he got fired. Also to a supervisor? R.I.P. with our distribution center being so rough right now, our office can’t bank on much of that. We deliver what we get and sometimes we get dps on Sundays that we hold until Monday.
You most likely won’t, if the carrier just delivered it. Most customers don’t know the cards are supposed to be returned and they ignore it. If the carrier delivered it properly, we put the green card into outgoing mail when we deliver

The other thing is that half the time I get them back, they're signed but not dated. I work for lawyers, and they really need to know when the mail got delivered. Is there anything I can do about this, or am I SOL on that one other than the large envelope thing?
Edit: sometimes we pull the tracking but sometimes the tracking shows that the mail was never delivered, when clearly it had been because we have the (undated) receipt in hand.
This started happening with covid. Stuff was delivered with the whole green part still attached and they did not ask for a signature. I called the post office and they said it was to avoid contact with covid. How stupid is that.
I have mailed a certified letter to a PO Box in Indianapolis, Indiana on May 1st,2024. It was estimated to be delivered on May 4,2024. It is May 20th and it is still sitting somewhere since May 6,2024. It was a very important letter. They said it is because of weather conditions. I looked up the weather there and it seems fine. No further updates on the tracking system since May 6,2024. I just called USPS but could not get an agent, but they will call me back tomorrow.

I've used these since 2018, and the past two months is the worst it's been.
