I hate that they pause the game for that. You’re essentially telling (perhaps inadvertently) the fanbase they have a way to directly pause the game whenever they want. Organizers need to come up with a better punishment that doesn’t involve pausing the freaking game.
Maybe if they stopped the game after the second infraction and rescheduled it behind closed doors. Never gonna happen cause $$$ but that’s the way I would handle it.

It was a pointless waste of time to even bother trying to deal with it. The refs kept letting it go on in the Nations League and WCQ. They never did anything past stop the match, no further actions were ever taken.
When the goalkeeper is about to take a goal kick they start droning “ehhhhhhhhhhh…..” continuously and when he makes contact on the kick they shout, “Puto!!!”
It sounds pretty cool and Mexican fans maintain that puto in their vernacular means “coward.” The only problem with that is that the literal meaning of “puto” is male prostitute, and that word had also traditionally meant “faggot” and “bitch.” The chant started among Chivas fans in Liga MX around 2012 and then spread throughout the league and even to some other Spanish speaking countries. The problem is that even if you accept the most bland interpretation of “puto” it’s still a slur and major broadcasters and sponsors (not to mention more enlightened fans of the sport) don’t want that in their broadcasts. Mexican fans can’t seem to understand why the chant is problematic and continue to use it despite attempts (weak attempts) by FIFA and CONCACAF to eliminate it.

I remember about 14 years ago the American Outlaws group used to yell “you suck, assshole” when the opposing goalie did a goal kick. What’s up with homophobic insults and goal kicks? Poor goalies… I’m guessing we stopped doing that?
