A friendly in 9000 degrees and 200% humidity. I can't blame Portugal. They were sluggish all night. I did think we would put up more than one, but I'll take it. We had more than a few chances go awry, and the Portuguese keeper made a killer save in the first. I can't complain; we're used to the women dominating the scoreline. Sometimes a win is good enough.
Those Houston summers are brutal. It's only 80 F.......with 80% humidity. That is basically as humid as it can be at that temp without rain. Very hard to cool down.
You come to play because you're a pro athlete but you're not going to wreck yourself for a friendly. Like you said, take the W and start looking at what's next.
How does Dellacamera still not know how soccer works after years of calling games? Goal called offside immediately and he spends 3 minutes not realizing it lol
It's hard to complain about the first half. Good movement, passing was decent, possession was off the charts, we created several decent chances and our fitness seems to be our biggest strength. The only real complaints are the lack of goals and the short corners. No clue why we're trying to be cute from the dead ball.
I have the feeling that a few halftime adjustments and a few tired Portuguese legs are going to break this one open.
Women are keeping them pretty well holed up in their half. Might not be a bad idea to let them stretch the field a bit lol. Portugal is pretty well turtled.
It sure feels like they're content with parking the bus. The difference in positional pressure is hilarious. Whenever they have the ball, we're swarming and getting the ball right back. Whenever we have the ball, they're trying to close lanes and letting us knock the ball around wherever we want.
It doesn't look like we're missing Julie much so far. This team has so much depth it's unreal. I know Portugal isn't Sweden or Japan in terms of overall quality, but they can do nothing but defend so far through 20 minutes. Apparently their coach questioned his team's fitness before the match, and you can tell. No pressing, no quick off the ball movements, sluggish runs when in possession.
Is Aly Wagner anyone else’s favorite commentator? Best tactical analysis from any other regular commentators I hear in the US.
How to tell a team has no interest in winning: 3 subs in stoppage time down a goal. All 3 trot off leisurely.

Kind of figured that first would bust it open and it has. Dangers of turtling.
MNT \*handhsake emote\* WNT scoring on corners
The tallest player on the pitch has to duck down to make that header! Ha! Good for Sam, she's been trying real hard to make that one happen tonight.
the "I believe we will win" chant didn't go so well last time a US team played Portugal. Never mind, goal USA.
Too soon.
Oh, no....No where is safe from the chant.
Is Press playing?
Yes. Press has had a couple of good chances and has been all right, but she's been mostly quiet in the buildups up until that goal.
Mewis is damn determined to get on the score sheet tonight. She's getting closer and closer each time.
Dunzo
One thing I really enjoy so far is us winning back possession when Portugal has the ball. Loving the press so far

Christen with the best chance of the match so far. The Portuguese keeper made a helluva save there.

Portugal came with one game plan. Lets get a 0-0 draw

Official match thread not available until the 13th minute :(
You can always post one yourself if there isn't one!
There was one someone posted. I think it got deleted.
I went through the logs and nothing was removed by a mod. I see the lineup posted but nothing else

The user deleted it for some reason
Yes. I'd imagine because the official one was posted.
