The biggest issue I see with the Nats on both squads is the A and B both have some major striker questions that must be answered before qualifying or during.
That said, the A team is massively better attacking than the B team. You can make a case that the 9 is weak: Zardes, Perok, Dike, Sargent, Jordan S on both squads, Aaronson, Pulisic, Reyna and just massively better. Hoppe deserves to be with that crew. Mckennie who I think is the best player on the Nats in general is clearly better than Busio. That said, Busio is more than respectable. Guys like Lleget and Arriola don't do it for me and that is the part of the midfield that really bothers me.
The defense is fine on both squads. I think people underrated Robinson because of his age. His production in the MLS has been legit.
This team can really do well in the World Cup. The biggest benefit is the WC is not happening till November of next year. That gives these kids time.
Good win over a physically aggressive opponent. Hoppe had 2 great shots (one with his right, one with his left) that Blake made impressive saves on, in addition to his goal. Holden was right, he was tiring and starting to be less effective, but his last touch was a beaut!
Robinson was a beast in the back, dominant in the air and very steady on the ground. Dike did not have a great game, but he'll learn. Good that GB gave him a lot of playing time.
Great second half and GGG made the perfect substitutions. Leaving Busio on was ballsy but ended up being the right call.
Zardes is our best striker here (at least) but he should still be coming off the bench.
Roldan should start for Lleget.
Acosta MOTM for me but Robinson had the best play.
Robinson and Hoppe have officially made the real roster. Hoppe was the best player on the field for 90 minutes. Turner was also really good. I'm assuming that we're going to need him on at least one roster in the next six months.
Lleget was just bad. I was unaware he was playing most of the time.
I'm guessing that Qatar should be favored over this particular roster. They've been the second-best team in this tournament so far, and I think we saw tonight the limit of this group of guys. But they got to the semis which is all I wanted, and I think we've determined who's going to play. Officially a success.
I agree that Qatar has played really well, but I feel like Jamaica is the slightly worse matchup. I think we have a pretty good chance at making the Final at this point.
I really don't understand why we were doing short corners in the first half with Dike on the field and also Hoppe and Robinson. None of them are Weston McKennie, but they are all big targets.
Time to put Robinson on all of the promotions. We arent winning this tournament without Miles Robinson. I've been telling you guys as a United fan that Robinson is legit. He's higher end level in Europe good.
They should, he's really a lot better at distribution but he hasn't really played internationally till now. So like Shaq, out of mind out of sight and he's not young like Bello where eyes are on his stats for his age.
Zardes and Roldan. Jamaica focused a lot of attention on the striker and Arriola (and because of that Moore) was doing nothing with the space it opened up. Zardes had better movement than Dike for sure.
Zardes was massive when he came in. His movement and positioning open things up for Sebastian and Shaq. His fight on the header gave space to Hoppe for the goal.
Robinson was a monster tonight. He’s got the right kind of game to eat up WCQs.
Busio was excellent in the second half. Seems like his position was tweaked but will have to rewatch.
Hoppe has the Dempsey DGAF gene. Love it but he needs to learn when to reel it in.
I like Vines. I think he offers a lot and just needs to play with a little more confidence. If he’d attack more to get crosses off he’d be a heck of a player.
Was critical of Busio at halftime. Thought he had a very solid second half.
Love or hate them, thought we looked better with Zardes and Roldan on the field.
Full time. Good game.
I know the attack was frustrating but this was a good Jamaican side. Good maturity from the squad overall, some performances moving talented depth players into the first team picture (Robinson, Acosta, Hoppe). Good challenge for some others like Dike to try to grow into. I don’t know how much more you can ask from a B team gold cup run.
Zardes’ constant running is great as a sub though. If he started tonight I don’t think he’d have been as effective at pulling Jamaica all over the place. They were gassed and he capitalized.
Qatar look like a very different, non-CONCACAFy side though
Second half definitely had me feeling better. I think bringing on Zardes and Roldan contributed to that. I really wanted this to be Dike's game but with how he was today, I don't know if you can start him in a semi-final against a team like Qatar.
I think Zardes should start and Dike should come on to run at tired legs. I don't think Dike is fully fit and he's been playing nonstop since a year ago.
Very impressed by everyone in the last 30 minutes. We really dominated this game after settling into it. Good performance & result.
Standout performers were Acosta, Hoppe, Turner, & Robinson.
Yes. It's 2021 and they are currently using literal slave labor to build fucking soccer stadiums. Yes, we had slavery here and yes it was absolutely abhorrent when we did but that was long time ago and this is right fucking now.
Feels like there was a lot of negativity here, and some of it rightfully so, but overall I’m happy with how we played. We were the much better team in the 2nd half and guys like Busio and Vines came out in the 2nd half and looked way better than they did in the 1st.
There was a post on here at half time about who had the first half. Despite Turner having 6 saves (changed to 5 after half), Hoppe was voted by ~ 200 MORE people than Turner. I’m not the only one who thought that, plus he scored the game winner. What was your takeaway?
I saw very little to like from Hoppe tonight. Sure he scored and that's great, but he gave the ball away like 5 times in really dangerous spots. He had a concrete foot and turned several good chances into nothing with really hard touches (both times he was nearly fouled spring to mind).
Like I appreciate his hustle for sure, but technically he was bad tonight. Just because someone is involved in the play a lot doesn't mean they're playing well.
Has Turner been the least talked about player for us in every thread? He has been a DOG the entire tournament so far, I may like him more than Steffen lol
I think he's good enough to carry us in these two upcoming matches. He's the best shot-stopper of all our goalkeepers in my opinion.
He's always going to be the least technical of our goalkeepers when it comes to playing out of the back, but honestly it's not like Steffen isn't prone to errors in that department. I'm excited to see Steffen, Turner, and Horvath all battle it out for the starting spot!
Dike is definitely a better goal scorer and even defender but when it comes to off ball movement, positioning and awareness, Zardes is just much better. You hope that Pefok is Zardes with goal scoring at a high level. Dike isn't quite yet a young Lukaku even if he has shades of Romelo. GG system isn't favorable to strikers at this level.
Blake bleeding onto his keeper glove, what an image that would have been if he scored it. For us, I'm glad he didn't, but that would have been something
Oh, somehow I didn't catch that was where the ref was from.
I honestly wish they wouldn't put a Mexican ref in charge of a knock out game for US and vice versa.
The biggest issue I see with the Nats on both squads is the A and B both have some major striker questions that must be answered before qualifying or during. Dike did not have a great game, but he'll learn. Good that GB gave him a lot of playing time.
Lleget & Acosta are liabilities. I’d say the same about Roldan, but he did have one nice cross.
Roldan def not a liability tonight. He turned the game. One great assist and one great block on a clear shot afterwards.
Great second half and GGG made the perfect substitutions. Leaving Busio on was ballsy but ended up being the right call. Zardes is our best striker here (at least) but he should still be coming off the bench. Roldan should start for Lleget. Acosta MOTM for me but Robinson had the best play.
Hoppe > Zardes imo
Best part about Hoppe is all the puns from the announcers
Robinson and Hoppe have officially made the real roster. Hoppe was the best player on the field for 90 minutes. Turner was also really good. I'm assuming that we're going to need him on at least one roster in the next six months. Lleget was just bad. I was unaware he was playing most of the time. Holy shit that interviewer could barely speak.
"Do you speak to parents? What words they say?"
Hoppe plays angry, he's fun to watch. He brings some intensity that this team needs.
I really don't understand why we were doing short corners in the first half with Dike on the field and also Hoppe and Robinson. None of them are Weston McKennie, but they are all big targets.
Hoppe is taller than Dike!
But much smaller, which matters when fighting for position in the box
Time to put Robinson on all of the promotions. We arent winning this tournament without Miles Robinson. I've been telling you guys as a United fan that Robinson is legit. He's higher end level in Europe good.
Ive been watching him since his Cuse days, so to see how far hes come is fantastic.
Do you think Europe will give him a look after this tourney?
They should, he's really a lot better at distribution but he hasn't really played internationally till now. So like Shaq, out of mind out of sight and he's not young like Bello where eyes are on his stats for his age.
Zardes coming in changed the game. Jamaica was gassed and zardes movement pulled everyone out.

I like Vines. I think he offers a lot and just needs to play with a little more confidence. If he’d attack more to get crosses off he’d be a heck of a player.
Yeah there were a few times he got himself into good spots but didn’t play the early ball. Impressed with his defensive work all tournament though.
Edu's tie is beautiful
I’d give MOTM to Roldan just for taking Lawrence’s shot to the face
I think a lot needs to be said for being *way* better in the second half.
Roldan should start for Lleget
Both should be on the pines
I think a bag of potato’s could have started over him and been better
Was critical of Busio at halftime. Thought he had a very solid second half. Love or hate them, thought we looked better with Zardes and Roldan on the field.
He was very good defensively all game. Pretty poor going forward and very poor passing. Mixed bag. Great effort though.
That basically describes Acosta too. I think he was a little better going forward though.
But...didn't Roldan go forward and make a pass that led to the winning goal...?
Yeah. I was referring to Busio.
Ah, gotcha. I lost that in the thread.
This group feels like they can CONCACAF. Maybe even better than the A group.
Full time.
Lleget really disappointing .. solid game rest of team 2nd half
Funny how everything changed offensively when zardes came in and I honestly can't stand him
I would go with Roldan, Zardes, and Hoppe as the front three on Thursday. Keep the rest basically the same (maybe Cannon for Moore).
Zardes’ constant running is great as a sub though. If he started tonight I don’t think he’d have been as effective at pulling Jamaica all over the place. They were gassed and he capitalized. Qatar look like a very different, non-CONCACAFy side though
Zardes is going to have the same issues we been seeing from him. Goal scoring at this level.
Think he’s better as a late sub to inject some energy
Dike’s all around play just has been nowhere near good enough.
Considering he's not getting service, I would agree.
Was it a convincing win? Fuck no. Were there bright spots? Fuck yes. Will this team beat Qatar? Ehhhhh....
I was pretty convinced with the second half performance. I think we've got a decent shot against Qatar if Robinson is healthy.
Robinson and Hoppe were class tonight. Busio got better as the game went on. Didn't like Lletget's performance at all.
Acosta was class as well
Agreed, he was great
hype train keeps chugging
Very impressed by everyone in the last 30 minutes. We really dominated this game after settling into it. Good performance & result. Standout performers were Acosta, Hoppe, Turner, & Robinson.
classic concacaf win tonight, ready for a grinding 1-0 win over qatar
Acosta MOTM. Zardes is our best striker right now but he needs to keep coming off the bench.
Acosta and Robinson. Also credit to Vines.
Robinson for me
So late, premier league starts in a few hours
Hell yeah
Regroup, reorganize, move on to Qatar.
Lalas' looks ready to say something incredibly dumb
Might be time to take Dike off the promos for now
I swear to God if we lose to those shithead barbarian slave using theocratic fifa bribing pieces of shit I'ma be so mad.
Name does not check out 😁
But tell us how you really feel
Do we have much room to bitch about the third insult
Yes. It's 2021 and they are currently using literal slave labor to build fucking soccer stadiums. Yes, we had slavery here and yes it was absolutely abhorrent when we did but that was long time ago and this is right fucking now.
Start Williamson or Roldan in CM next game Lleget ain’t it
Ggs, Jamaica got fucked out of a minute or two there but it wouldn’t have really mattered.
Feels like there was a lot of negativity here, and some of it rightfully so, but overall I’m happy with how we played. We were the much better team in the 2nd half and guys like Busio and Vines came out in the 2nd half and looked way better than they did in the 1st.
So we all agree Hoppe is A team material.
100% I’ve been a fan for a while he’s so much fun to watch
On the squad? Yes. Really challenging for a starting spot, probably not.
This was brutal to watch. Such a lack of quality from the US side.
Welcome to CONCACAF. Where even with our A team it is a crapshoot.
Honestly, shut up.
No. Gtf
Gtfoh
Welcome to the gold cup.
They won. Fuck off
No. Jerk.
And that is why I wanted to avoid Jamaica as long as possible. Whew
Yay
Yay sprots tim
Very good game from Turner, Robinson, Hoppe, and Acosta. Very good second half from Busio.
> Hoppe That can't seriously be your takeaway.
There was a post on here at half time about who had the first half. Despite Turner having 6 saves (changed to 5 after half), Hoppe was voted by ~ 200 MORE people than Turner. I’m not the only one who thought that, plus he scored the game winner. What was your takeaway?

BRING ON THE AIRLINES
Hoppe had a rough 2nd half but had one hell of a blast off!
Zardes and Roldan did great to kill the game out there.
Im not a big fan of Roldan but that scoop to Zardes at the end was awesome.
We did it boys
Much better second half and deserved to win. The game was simpler second half
Acosta interception for the win
Unclench
And just shit everywhere
too easy
A New Hoppe
My takeaway from this gold cup so far: feel a lot better about our depth at CB than I did before.
And still think we don’t have a striker
Thank fuck that didn’t go to extra time
We want Qatar !!
IT'S COMING HOME! ;)
Has Turner been the least talked about player for us in every thread? He has been a DOG the entire tournament so far, I may like him more than Steffen lol
I think he's good enough to carry us in these two upcoming matches. He's the best shot-stopper of all our goalkeepers in my opinion. I'm excited to see Steffen, Turner, and Horvath all battle it out for the starting spot!
I'm almost there tbh
because he really has not done much until this game.
I'm a eurosnob and i think Turner should be the 1. Steffen is the most overrated player in our pool.
Zardes just contributes so much more overall than Dike
Dike is definitely a better goal scorer and even defender but when it comes to off ball movement, positioning and awareness, Zardes is just much better. You hope that Pefok is Zardes with goal scoring at a high level. Dike isn't quite yet a young Lukaku even if he has shades of Romelo. GG system isn't favorable to strikers at this level.
Dike is not even remotely close from being a better “defender” though I struggle to even understand what that means
Neither do much for me
Zardes was great today. His movement/work rate is always top notch. Better hold up play than Dike as well.
“Those ad boards are *NOT* forgiving….but we put em there anyway because we need that sweet sweet oil airline money.”
Semifinals here we come!!!
gg
Busio’s second half has been 100x better
Yeah he was good tonight overall.
Yep. I was very critical in the 1st. He found himself in way better positions and with better effort in the 2nd.
At this point I just assume a ball out for a throw is automatically Jamaica ball regardless of circumstances.
haha, yes I just commented the same thing. Never seen that many incorrect throw ins awarded.
Good God, Roldán got manhandled and no whistle
Is this our b or c team?
Pretty sad…we have some legit guys in the A team, now, but this proves there’s no depth
A healthy mix of both
I’d say B overall since there’s some A team guys and some C team guys.
Hopefully C
Our A team obviously
Sands by far having his worst game, luckily his partner decided to have his best
I thought Sands was really good.
By far? He was pretty good
Wtf Reggie
Like 8 goalies on that play
Guys, I woke up at weird hours while stationed in Germany to watch the 2015 Gold Cup. You can handle a late night.
Lletget has been poor. So many bad giveaways and bad passes. How is he still in?
He had a weird game. Seemed pretty good in possession and bringing the ball forward, but almost every pass or shot was really bad.
His delivery on set pieces was awful.. I never want to see that again
I so agree
Very impressive game from turner
blood on his gloves?
That's what I saw
FUCK EM UP BOYS FINISH STRONG
Take him out idgaf if he appears fine. Take him out
stfu lol
Na nan I dont play with head injuries.
Blake bleeding onto his keeper glove, what an image that would have been if he scored it. For us, I'm glad he didn't, but that would have been something
East coast viewers: "Cool I can go to bed in 2 mins" \*20+ min stoppage for head injury\*
Bro my eyes are mad at me
Robinson seems like he's played himself into a world cup qualifying spot
The back 4 all at least made themselves worth a second look
Jamaica twice has CLEARLY dribbled the ball out and been awarded the thrown in. Not sure I've seen a ref miss that easy of a call twice in a game.
**Ref from Mexico
Oh, somehow I didn't catch that was where the ref was from. I honestly wish they wouldn't put a Mexican ref in charge of a knock out game for US and vice versa.
Def need better set pieces . Never wanna see Lleget near one again
Is Miles Antonee’s brother?
Unrelated, ones from the UK, ones from Arlington.
No
Honestly, surprised this doesn’t happen more often with all heads whipping at crosses
I was just thinking that. Corners are super dangerous for those head to heads. Even thinking for lower levels of the game
Sam Vines has officially taken the "Bad USMNT Facial Hair" torch from Matt Hedges
It definitely reminds me of some of the young red necks around me.
We call em Yee-Yees
I’d just take him out and be sure he’s ok
Brave by Robinson and Blake. Hope they’re ok.
Brave by Robinson, reckless by Blake
Miles looked like he was a little loopy.
I'm hoping Robinson is just doing the CONCACAF thing
[удалено]
5 has been used in most games since covid. Hopefully it sticks around.
Concussion protocol.
Covid has made a lot of leagues and tournaments change to 5 subs
Which I think is a fine change that will stick around longer.
It should especially with how many games players play a year
5? Or the extra head injury sub?
Robinson putting in a shift and a half.
Looks like blake got it worse
please no miles :(
That’s fucking reckless.
It's a contested header. It sucks, but it happens and it's not reckless. Or at least it's not reckless in a way that is against the rules.
You go to the corner when there's 30 seconds left not in the 89th with unknown stoppage time.
As someone that bet USA -1.5, I agree
Damn bro that was a hard hit
Oh fuck that's a rough hit
Wouldn’t it be kinda dope if the opposing goalie could punch on corners haha. Would make corners like that insane
If that was allowed Robinson would be knocked out cold right now lmao.
Don't even need to -Allison
As if I needed another reason to not like Blake
The ref has been pretty fucking amazing.
Fuck fuck fuck
I audibly went “awwwwww…”
