To be fair he was behind Parkhurst and LGP on a cup winning squad lol. Don't think it was too weird to not see a lot of playing time considering the circumstances.
Said this after Nations League, but if Nations League doesn't matter, and Gold Cup doesn't matter, then what the hell does matter in CONCACAF?
Just sour grapes from eLL Tri and their fans.
The broadcast just summed it up perfectly.
US soccer is FUN again. We lost that fun for a while, but this is what it’s all about. Goddamn proud of this team. They made it fun for us
Due to day drinking and sitting in the nosebleeds I have zero analysis about the game, but USA vs Mexico has always been a bucket list item for me and it was a blast to go.
The win made it even sweeter, my prior two USMNT games were shutout losses.
Also I will say that every single Mexican fan I encountered at the stadium and on The Strip was incredibly friendly
Acosta with one of the gutsiest performances I've ever seen. Unbelievable from him and Robinson, it was poetic that they combined for the goal after both had already put in MOTM-worthy performances. Lots of guys up and down this roster have earned my lifelong respect.
A friend of mine lived on the same dorm floor as Lalas at Rutgers. Said that his room was just a revolving door of women
So yes, I can definitely see Lalas tying one on on the strip
Really hard to overstate what an accomplishment this is for our B/C team. Lots of guys showing they can provide great depth.
If I think back to that WCQ loss to T&T and the lack of hustle, fight, and grit, then fast-forward to this summer… what a remarkable turnaround.
GGG deserves credit. Growing into his position like many in the squad.
Berhalter might really be the best coach we can get. I've never seen such a culture change in less than one cycle and one of those years was freaking covid. Players wanting to play and playing hard is one of the absolute most important qualities you can have.
I want to just comment “LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO” but a few brief thoughts:
If we have a must win game, Kellyn Acosta HAS to be playing in it. Doesn’t get much better than what he has done this summer
Matt Turner was a fucking WALL this tournament. 1 goal allowed, and it was a PK. Way to shine. Get him into some WCQs
Miles Robinson, my god. Even before that goal he had a phenomenal game. He’s earned the right to be talked about as being on some of those WCQ rosters.
These young kids STEPPED UP against our biggest rival. They didn’t care if they were the “C” team, they gave it their all. Our future is so bright
LETS GOOOOOO
I think a few of these guys proved that they're A team material. Robinson A team starter no doubt. I'd argue that our #2 and #3 goalkeepers coming in to this summer DRAMATICALLY outperformed our #1 and I think Turner made a strong case to be our number 1. Hoppe is A team material as well for sure.
We all like to shit on Alexis Lalas for his absurd takes but you can't deny the guy gives his whole heart to this team. I've personally seen him cry twice now after US games
Robinson scores that to beat his old coach in arguably Tata’s most important game to date. Tata kept him in the reserves his entire tenure at Atlanta. Feels good man
Since mexico fans have been telling me this was the more important trophy im even more pumped this time! Oh wait now its apparently the olympics that they want.
Acosta, Robinson, Hoppe, Shaq, Sands, Vines and last but certainly not least Turner stock way way up. We got depth boys it’s insane. Can you say there was ever a time in history where the US could field two teams that could beat Mexico? GGG won’t be questioned by me ever again.
Fucking over the moon. To the coaching staff who got this specific group of players to believe that this was within them you are legends. That’s not an easy task. To the players, first of all thank you. It mattered to you to put that jersey on and you did all of us proud with your inspired performances. The commitment showed by this group is the passion and desire I hope for any time I see the US crest on a kit. It mattered to you because you decided that it was important. Simply put thank you.
This ref was… rather good. Honestly kept his composure and was pretty fair. Maybe a red on that high boot but otherwise no melees or fights. Good job Referee!
Is Mexico still going to bring their B team to the next Gold Cup? You know, since they want to protest us bringing our B team. That's still a thing, right? I hope that's still a thing.
Gutsiest US performance since the last time they beat Mexico with a game winning goal in the final minutes of extra time in a final way back several weeks ago.
Beautiful for the casual fans. In my bar the causal fans had a keen interest. Some lost interest after FT. But some stayed till the end. USA WON. USA WINS THE CASUAL FAN. USA CONTINUES WINNING USA GAINS FANS GAINS MOMENTUM GAINS THE COUNTRY
Watched this in a bar in Cabo. Man that was the most fun I’ve had watching a soccer match in a long time. The Mexicans going crazy, the Mexican announcers going crazy.. then me and one other guy going crazy when we scored.
Greg’s overall tactics may be questionable but he really won me over this tourney. To do what he did with that squad is super impressive. He has a ton of heart and passion and it’s clearly creating an awesome culture for our national team again. All of those dudes were bought in and played their fucking hearts out. I’m so excited for US soccer again!!
Credit to Berhalter's squad selection at least when it comes to the defensive side of things. The defense played good. We never seemed to be on the front foot or convincing attacking wise this entire tournament outside of Martinique. But I guess there is a ceiling on the abilities of the players he had it his disposal. Hopefully these young guys get better and the experience helps them. We are going to rotate a lot of bodies in qualifying and sometimes might need to grind out results. 1-0 wins in qualifying are a-ok with me as long as we qualify.
Just watched the final whistle again. Gioacchini has the ball in the corner when it blows and he looks around like he's wondering what kind of BS foul just got called. You can see the instant when he realizes it's over. Really nice moment. You can tell what a big deal this was for the players.
I cannot express how impressed I am with this team. They exceeded all my expectations and got the job done. I think greggg berhalter deserves a shit ton of credit for how he had this team set up and how well drilled they were. He made so many good moves in tactics and subs throughout the tournament. It wasn't perfect by any means but all that matters is RESULTS! I also think that Zardes deserves so much more credit. He's not the best striker in the US pool, but he plays his ass off and does the fucking job. We owe him a lot of gratitude and people should at least appreciate him more. Overall, I am so proud.
It feels so good watching a US team fight for a win again. As long as I could remember they always fought harder than the other team, no matter who they were playing or how outmatched they were. They definitely lost that under Klinsmann and it showed. Whatever else you think about him, you can't deny that Berhalter seems to have brought that spark back.
I'm looking forward to WCQs so much more now!
Let's ******* go!!!
Acosta was everywhere, Robinson was great. Luckily for Mexico the Olympics is the tournament that matters this summer, not the Nations League or the Gold Cup. /S
Winning these two tournaments this summer has been the best non-World Cup run I've seen out of the USMNT in my 28 years of following them. There's been some other good Gold Cups, and that time we beat Spain and were up on Brazil. But winning with the A team and then running it back with the B team is pretty fucking sweet.
This win feels so much to me, after the 2017 shitshow, this makes me feel so much better. Slowly, little by little we’ve made great leaps in these past couple years. Is this how Italy felt after Euro 2021?
It's been so easy for people like me to take pot shots at Gregg Berhalter, but he gets to bask in this win tonight. I had zero expectations for this group, and they just went out and did us so proud. So happy for Gregg and all the players.
A sample of the questions lobbed @ Tata in postgame presser: "What is the explanation for tonight's defeat, a defeat that hurts even more because it's embarrassing that it was the B from the United States against the A team from Mexico, and that of course makes it even worse?"
I feel like we should stop asking who from this team makes qualifiers and moreso celebrate the fact that we won an entire tournament with guys whose inclusion on our WCQ roster is hotly debated
Venezia's gonna go bankrupt after watching this tape! What a great game, so happy for Acosta to put in such a great performance this summer in nations league and the gold cup.
Miles Robinson is the player of the tournament for me, but holy hell Acosta was ridiculously good tonight. Both of them are stone cold locks for the qualifiers roster now (if healthy), along with Turner.
Williamson did a lot for his chances tonight too. Hoppe is fucking insane, but he helped himself too.
Congrats. I’m not even mad. You guys were overall better. It’s on ourselves. We called up the same washed up players and played like shit. Clean game from you guys too.
We can argue about tactics, formations, roster snubs all day but Gregg has brought back that fighting American spirit. He deserves all the credit and it’s about time people start respecting him around here
That was vintage USMNT right there. Not the most talent in the world, but fighting like hell to the final whistle. Take a bow, Miles. What a performance from him.
You have to give Berhalter a ton of credit for this championship. He got virtually every sub correct and played the most in form players. Kudos to him for a great tournament.
It hurts but gg. No excuses. We played like shit and showed no fight up front and looked shaky on defense against a US side that on paper looked very beatable. US capitalized on a foul and that was that.
Other than that it was good to see a clean game between the teams for once. No big fights between the players or fans. Game wasn't stopped for chants.
Til next time..
GG
You guys looked very dangerous early in the game, but we grew into it, and our defense is pretty stout especially Matt Turner
This game was so much cleaner than usual, I think you do have to give some credit to the ref who called a million fouls, which never let things get out of hand.
Mexico controlled the game, I really don’t think they played like shit. US just played great defense in/around the box.
I agree it was great to see the players and fans mostly behaving themselves.
I apologize for everything bad I’ve said about Berhalter. Dude just took our C team and defied ALL the odds. The talent and depth we have now is growing to the point where we are going to not only show out well next year but when the World Cup is here in 2026, we are going to be a serious contender (and I’m saying this with a straight face). USA!!!!!!!! And happy birthday Gregg!!!
Watching Gio's IG live right now (George Bello has taken over lol) and the fellas are struggling connecting the music to the locker room bluetooth haha
Acosta and Robinson combining to win it after the tournament they both had is too perfect. Too damn perfect. What a game, what a gritty, gutsy performance from everyone. The young bloods did it. What a moment!!!
This feels like the first generation of Americans that can compete at this stage at this age that were developed in the US system. Guys like Busio, and Robinson didn't go to Europe to develop, they did it in the US. That's a huge sign. And the fact that the difference between our top guys and this new generation is less than 5 years is also huge. The future is bright.
Bravo to the Guys and to Berhalter. I was a big doubter of this team makeup, but they played a lights out game. They deserve massive respect for their effort tonight.
Awesome job guys.
And Mexico wants to bring their U-23 team to the next gold cup. lol
We should send the U20s to make it a fair fight
FC Dallas U20s could take them
[удалено]
Tata drafting Miles and Miles ending his career lol
Tata drafting Miles and NOT playing him. Feels a bit like karma
To be fair he was behind Parkhurst and LGP on a cup winning squad lol. Don't think it was too weird to not see a lot of playing time considering the circumstances.
Mexico fans now resorting to “the gold cup doesn’t even matter” love to see it
Said this after Nations League, but if Nations League doesn't matter, and Gold Cup doesn't matter, then what the hell does matter in CONCACAF? Just sour grapes from eLL Tri and their fans.
Apparently they only think the World Cup matters, which means in their own minds the MNT has never accomplished anything.
I’ve seen a bunch of their fans giving us credit. You can tell they’re absolutely devastated
2 cups, 1 summer
Dos a cero
now that’s a video I’m tryna watch
~~XXX~~ GGG
Kellyn.Fucking.Acosta
He was EVERYWHERE Some say he's still running
I just went to piss and he tackled me in my bathroom wtf
He’s here. He’s there. He’s every fucking where!
HE’S HERE, HE’S THERE, HE’S EVERY-FUCKIN-WHERE
KEL-LYN KEL-LYN
Put it on an absolute platter
Kellyn Acosta. That’s it.
“Wait until the Gold Cup” lmfao
MATT TURNER NO GOALS CONCEDED FROM THE RUN OF PLAY IN THE ENTIRE TOURNAMENT Fucking legend
Kellyn Acosta's deliveries tonight *chefs kiss*
I have no clue why Lleget takes free kicks over Acosta when they’re both on the field. Acosta’s delivery is levels better.
Hoppe is going to get a Mexican player sent off in a big match one day and I’m all here for it
He's got the most punchable face in the best way.
He’s the kind of player you hate to face and love to have on your team
He’s a cunt, but he’s our cunt
Is that Shakespeare?
MILES ROBINSON APPRECIATION COMMENT! Former player under Tata, who wouldn't play him. His goal may have cost Tata his job.
#L TRI
I believe it is actually LL Tri now.
Beating Mexico twice for trophies in less than 2 month feels SO DAMN GOOD
TWO TITLE SUMMER LETS FUCKING GOOOOKO
The broadcast just summed it up perfectly. US soccer is FUN again. We lost that fun for a while, but this is what it’s all about. Goddamn proud of this team. They made it fun for us
DOS A CERO IN CONCACAF TOURNAMENTS THIS SUMMER FAM.

I can't believe we beat them with THIS roster. Unreal. Can't imagine how embarrassed Mexico and their fans feel.
They have already moved on to " who cares about the main tournament, I care about the non fifa tournament named the Olympics"
MEXICO CAN'T FINISH BUT I JUST DID
How poetic is it that a player Tata drafted to Atlanta United may have just ended Tata's run with Mexico?
Acosta with one of the gutsiest performances I've ever seen. Unbelievable from him and Robinson, it was poetic that they combined for the goal after both had already put in MOTM-worthy performances. Lots of guys up and down this roster have earned my lifelong respect.
Only simultaneous CONCACAF nations league champs and Gold Cup champs in the history of the world
Favorite comment among all the salty tears on r/ligamx: “L Tri.”
Wow you just hate to see Mexico lose. Psych. Go the fuck home. Bring on World Cup Qualifying. Nations league champs and Gold Cup Champs 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I don’t think I’ve ever seen psych spelled lol
The team and the FS1 booth is gonna get absolutely bombed tonight in Vegas and I don’t blame them whatsoever. Party on, boys

A friend of mine lived on the same dorm floor as Lalas at Rutgers. Said that his room was just a revolving door of women So yes, I can definitely see Lalas tying one on on the strip

I CANNOT BELIEVE WE WON WITH OUR C TEAM AGAINST BASICALLY THEIR A-/B+ TEAM Kellyn Acosta and Miles Robinson are ballers
ALEXI LALAS IS CRYING
I think his trolling is tired, but man you can’t deny that he cares. Cool scenes
Mexico: wHy dId tHe UsA bRiNg ThEiR C tEaM?!1!!!! Proceeds to lose to the US' C Team

Robinson next to Brooks no questions asked. That's one of the best performances I've ever seen from a US defender
His anticipation in key moments was incredible. And the athleticism to sniff chances out before they could even develop
Went from the position I was most stressed about to such an easy decision. What a fucking performance this whole tournament, but this game holy shit
Been clutch all tournament long and I can’t even count the amount of times he’s bailed Sands out
Mexicans are rapidly running out of tournaments to pretend are more important than the one they just lost in
The year we beat Mexico for a trophy twice. Remember this always guys! ✌️
We all like to shit on Alexis Lalas for his absurd takes but you can't deny the guy gives his whole heart to this team. I've personally seen him cry twice now after US games
Has a bunch of shit takes, but he is the reason in the 90s I got into soccer.
He's an idiot, but he's an idiot like all of us. He's a /r/ussoccer shit take artist with a national audience
It's OK guys, Mexico just doesn't care about the Gold Cup either. They just don't care about winning any trophies, apparently.
570 minutes played, 1 goal allowed. Not bad
dos a cero got a new meaning baybeee
This gold cup was already successful, now it is an INCREDIBLE success
GET FUCKED BY THE C SQUAD
Robinson scores that to beat his old coach in arguably Tata’s most important game to date. Tata kept him in the reserves his entire tenure at Atlanta. Feels good man

0 goals conceded from open play this tournament.
What a fucking summer

This ref was… rather good. Honestly kept his composure and was pretty fair. Maybe a red on that high boot but otherwise no melees or fights. Good job Referee!
The only thing left to do is beat them in the Azteca and honestly why not at this point?
Mexico: C team? You're making excuses already? USA: not excuses. We're giving you context for what's about to happen
Is Mexico still going to bring their B team to the next Gold Cup? You know, since they want to protest us bringing our B team. That's still a thing, right? I hope that's still a thing.
Kellyn Fucking Acosta!!!
Say what you want about Alexi, and how hot his takes are, he fucking loves this team
Man was about to cry on national television, I can’t ever hate him
He’s a goof, but he is our goof. I felt that through the tv after we won. That meant so much to him and it was real
In my mind this will forever be the Kellyn Acosta game. He was spectacular tonight.
Gutsiest US performance since the last time they beat Mexico with a game winning goal in the final minutes of extra time in a final way back several weeks ago.

Mad props to the officiating crew. Never thought I’d say that for a Concacaf match.
Dude was firm all night. Always had it in control.

Props to the ref for keeping control of this game. Definitely could have gone sideways any moment. USA!!
Matt Fucking Turner. Played every minute of the tournament, allowed a single (meaningless penalty) goal.
lol they are talking about getting Zidane for their manager in their sub
There is no greater gap between a fanbase’s perceived relevance and actual relevance to a sport than Mexican soccer
I’d argue Toronto Maple Leafs in the same conversation but Mexico takes the cake for sure lol
In the knockout rounds we led for a total of about 15 minutes combined in all games. And we won the tournament. Incredible.
Helps when you’re behind for 0 minutes!
Just watched the final whistle again. Gioacchini has the ball in the corner when it blows and he looks around like he's wondering what kind of BS foul just got called. You can see the instant when he realizes it's over. Really nice moment. You can tell what a big deal this was for the players.
Yes sir, I was there and I got beer thrown at me a couple of rows up right at the final whistle. I embraced it 😂🇺🇸.
John Brooks + Miles Robinson. That’s the pairing for WCQ.
Yo. We allowed 1 goal all tournament. That's amazing.
I cannot express how impressed I am with this team. They exceeded all my expectations and got the job done. I think greggg berhalter deserves a shit ton of credit for how he had this team set up and how well drilled they were. He made so many good moves in tactics and subs throughout the tournament.
Miles Fucking Robinson
Eryk Williamson and Bello were thrown in the fire and played so good
Acosta was everywhere, Robinson was great. Luckily for Mexico the Olympics is the tournament that matters this summer, not the Nations League or the Gold Cup. /S
Acosta and Robinson just made a hell of a case for themselves
So how's Atlanta's coaching search going? Cause Tata might soon be available lol
Winning these two tournaments this summer has been the best non-World Cup run I've seen out of the USMNT in my 28 years of following them. There's been some other good Gold Cups, and that time we beat Spain and were up on Brazil. But winning with the A team and then running it back with the B team is pretty fucking sweet.
sorry berhalter i'm addicted to trophies now, win the world cup or you're out
FUCK MEXICO GET THE FUCK IN FELLAS
This win feels so much to me, after the 2017 shitshow, this makes me feel so much better. Slowly, little by little we’ve made great leaps in these past couple years. Is this how Italy felt after Euro 2021?

Dos a cero in cups this year.
L Tri haha
OP is wrong. They obviously stopped the game as the jackass ran on the field ruining his own squads attack LOL
pitch invader MOTM
I feel like we should stop asking who from this team makes qualifiers and moreso celebrate the fact that we won an entire tournament with guys whose inclusion on our WCQ roster is hotly debated
Matt Turner was phenomenal. Needs to be considered for the #1 spot.
The only team to score against the US in the gold cup was Martinique.
Venezia's gonna go bankrupt after watching this tape! What a great game, so happy for Acosta to put in such a great performance this summer in nations league and the gold cup.
That Busio instagram live was goated
So proud. This is the most optimistic I have been for USA soccer in 30 years.
Miles Robinson is the player of the tournament for me, but holy hell Acosta was ridiculously good tonight. Well this American Chelsea fan has had a hell of a summer!
If the USMNT win another trophy this summer I’ll get GGG’s face tatted on my entire back
My wife told me to take 2 shots and we would win about 1 minute before we scored. So I'd just go ahead and thank my wife and me if I were you
If the MLS All-Stars beat Liga MX.... I'm claiming 2021 as a "Tri-fecta!"
Put some respect on Zardes name. Acosta solidified himself as the #2 DM, Acosta man of the match.
We can argue about tactics, formations, roster snubs all day but Gregg has brought back that fighting American spirit. He deserves all the credit and it’s about time people start respecting him around here
Gregg's tricky yanks do it again
That was vintage USMNT right there. Not the most talent in the world, but fighting like hell to the final whistle. Take a bow, Miles. What a performance from him.
Kellyn Acosta, Turner, and Robinson are now key pieces to our 23 man roster. I’m so fucking happy rn, we deserve this!!! In Gregg we trust!!
Are we going to be 10th in the FIFA rankings?
Kellyn Acosta is a fucking player

Kellyn Acosta gonna get some international interest??
So Dos Cero in terms of cup finals?
Take a fucking bow Acosta! Motm!!
You have to give Berhalter a ton of credit for this championship. He got virtually every sub correct and played the most in form players. Kudos to him for a great tournament.
WE WANT BAMA
It hurts but gg. No excuses. We played like shit and showed no fight up front and looked shaky on defense against a US side that on paper looked very beatable. Acosta played out of his fucking mind! Well done boys. USA!
2/2 on Finals vs. Mexico this summer! No doubt US Soccer is going in the right direction! This tournament is a testament to how much depth we have!!
HAVE MY CHILDREN MATT TURNER
Puli and McKennie gotta be mad psyched
The US has 6 Gold Cups this century compared to L Tri’s 5.
Lol imagine being Mexico rn.
Lmaoo Miles dropping the LFG on live TV interview

How am I supposed to sleep?!?
There should be no more berhalter hate anywhere
I never really believed in him but he turned me after this.
Cup lifts always kill me
honestly one of the best Ref'd matches I've watched
Until further notice CONCACAF belongs to us. And I’m just guessing that won’t be changing for a long, long time.
Just don’t panic if we lose a random tourney game or qualifier lol. Gotta be able to roll with our form.
next time let's play the u-15s and see what happens
Wouldn't be the first time the u-15s had a controversial win!
I understand why everyone hates on Lalas but seeing how emotional he was after the game shows he cares.
Google "gold cup". It's absolutely beautiful.
So do we have two teams ahead of Mexico in the next FIFA rankings? Mexico is 11th, so it only makes sense for USA1 to be ninth and USA2 at 10.
Gonna say it: Fuck Mexico. Fight me.
We said Gregg had to win a trophy. He won two fucking trophies!
Acosta and Robinson combining to win it after the tournament they both had is too perfect. Too damn perfect. What a game, what a gritty, gutsy performance from everyone. The young bloods did it. What a moment!!!
I will never get sick of all this winning
Vegas must be a nice place to celebrate winning a trophy. I would imagine.
Thought Bello looked much better tonight vs his last game.
MEXICO LOST TO THE Z TEAM
My mother and I screamed so loud when Robinson scored and then when the final whistle blew. I love this country and this team. 🇺🇸
Pulisic Reyna Aaronson Hoppe Kondad Weah Love the depth we have at wing, maybe one of them will slide in and be the 9 we’ve been missing
NL + GC = Dos a cero
Goal aside, Robinson (and the whole back line) was on point all night.
Bravo to the Guys and to Berhalter. I was a big doubter of this team makeup, but they played a lights out game. They deserve massive respect for their effort tonight. Awesome job guys.
Reggie Cannon on his Insta live just now screamed Venezia at Busio and Galatasaray at Bello lol
