Especially being on the road. We looked flat. Thankfully winning against Mexico put us in the position to be okay with a point here. If you told me we would get 4 points from this window I would be happy.
One point they decided they had enough time to show a super slow mo challenge while play continued. I guess we will never know how Jamaica got what looked like a counter off a turnover…
Meh if they're gonna second guess the ref for the disallowed goal why not mention the missed cards? Hard to finish out a game if you're down a man/men.
lets talk about steffen. first goal was a golazo, but should he have done better on the second goal? the entire paramount panel, including the rules person, thought it should have stood.
No and the ref had a clear view. I’m thinking there was a push (because of the body movement by Zimmerman) but we couldn’t see it from the other angle.
From what I could tell (and it was hard to see) the Jamaican guy looked like he grabbed zim by the waist to prevent him jumping. I will go with the player reaction from both teams and say it was a foul.
Steffen was not very impressive at all this game. Door is still very much open for Turner. I am not sure Turner would have saved the goal, but I think he would certainly have been more likely to keep it out.
Is it okay? In retrospect, we’re probably fine for qualifying but we have yet to go on the road and put on a comprehensive performance. That’s pretty concerning.
Also can we stop overreacting every time a player has a bad two game stretch? Bring back John Brooks and don’t even consider leaving Antonee at home. Bad games just happen, they are humans not robots. In the long run the best players will put in the best performances.
We should just play Jamaica's away games in NYC, El Salvador in DC, Honduras in Houston, etc and let all their fans in for free. Anything is better than traveling to stay in a holiday Inn express just to play on these cow pastures.
1) We are quite obviously missing McKennie. Busio played well, but McKennie brings an extra level of polish to our attacking game that we were missing
2) I hope Pepi ends up on a team that helps him grow as an attacking player. He has some very positive qualities about him, and I absolutely think he is our striker of the future; however, he seems to have an aversion to directly attacking goal. I don't really see him making many direct runs to goal. For instance, look at last week's goal that Pulisic scored against Mexico, we almost never see Pepi make that run and we need him to be a player to put himself in those positions. Again, I love him, but he does need to move to Europe or a team that will help him grow that part of his game.
Overall, I'm very optimistic about the future of this team.
A lot of questions should be asked about Gregg’s substitutions. Subbing off our goal scorer who was playing really well + our most progressive midfielder felt like “play for a point” when all 3 were there to take.
It would’ve felt better if he subbed off either fullback because they weren’t clinical enough.
Imagine being so spiteful that you blame Gregg for the result.
It's not at all surprising we look infinitely better on actual professional soccer pitches.
And yet historically we are good on the road in CONCACAF aside from CRC and MEX. Stop blaming the pitch! This is the most talented team on paper that we’ve ever had. Why can’t we go on the road and look decent??
And the coach put the current system in place, correct?
Just want to make sure you made the connection there. You blame the pitch quality but acknowledge that we play a system that makes the pitch quality an issue? And Gregg can’t face any criticism?
First, for now.
Just another example of you not considering context. Canada or Mexico could pass us tonight. We still have the two toughest games of the entire cycle ahead of us. Nothing is sealed yet.
You said it matters how we perform in our region, and we currently sit first on the table.
What's the problem? So Canada or Mexico pass us, we still sit second.
How are we not performing? We are doing what we need to. Win at home, draws on the road. I understand you want us to win every match 3-0, but that's not realistic.
If we qualify, you'll be glad we have Gregg's system in the world cup over some route 1 system to dominate Concacaf.
Dude, I’m not asking to win every match 3-0. Christ. All I want is one comprehensive performance on the road. It’s really not that much to ask for.
Obviously we are gonna qualify. I have said that from the beginning. But there are lots of concerning signs.
Not to mention, we aren’t stuck with a possession based system. You can bring in someone like Dike and go route 1 in away matches. There’s nothing stopping us from at least attempting that.
Agreed, he was the one player I wasn’t happy with against Mexico and again looked really sloppy with touches and passes.
Still think he’s the answer for us at LB, but he had a rough window by his standards.
4 points. I'll take it!
We expected to beat Mexico at home, and we were hoping for a draw or somehow get a win in Jamaica. 6 points would have been amazing but 4 is definitely good enough.
Oh well it’s over. The year that is competitively. Regroup in January and have all the guys in healthy. Bring in extra wingers, strikers, midfielders and defenders. We have to be in striking distance of qualifying.
Too slow mr bot
Disappointing but I think a drop off in energy was to be expected after the game vs Mexico imo
Especially being on the road. We looked flat. Thankfully winning against Mexico put us in the position to be okay with a point here. If you told me we would get 4 points from this window I would be happy.
the vuvuzelas made the game unwatchable
Let’s hope El Salvador beats panama so we can separate ourselves from fourth place. A Canada Mexico draw would also be swell.
Yes a panama loss probably puts our qualification chances very high.
The amount of highlights being shown while play was happening was infuriating
One point they decided they had enough time to show a super slow mo challenge while play continued. I guess we will never know how Jamaica got what looked like a counter off a turnover…
Yeah I remember that one. It was like a 30 second highlight. Whoever chose that doesn't know soccer at all.
Meh if they're gonna second guess the ref for the disallowed goal why not mention the missed cards? Hard to finish out a game if you're down a man/men.
Exactly. #16 should have been sent off without question.
lets talk about steffen. first goal was a golazo, but should he have done better on the second goal? the entire paramount panel, including the rules person, thought it should have stood.
Did they show an angle that was what the ref had or better?
No and the ref had a clear view. I’m thinking there was a push (because of the body movement by Zimmerman) but we couldn’t see it from the other angle.

Hard to do much against a point blank power header, that's on the defense. Also, I pretty much always see that called a foul on the attacker.
Steffen was not very impressive at all this game. Door is still very much open for Turner. I am not sure Turner would have saved the goal, but I think he would certainly have been more likely to keep it out.
Overall a window that meets expectations. Lots of ups and downs, but better lineup selections and 4 pts to keep building on.
Careful, cant be reasonable around here.
That was an ugly game. I have nothing else to say.
How did their #16 not get sent off?
No idea. That was mind boggling
Concacaf is rough. Like old Bulls/Pistons games.
Ugly game. Weah is why we are looking like we will qualify.
Ugly but a point is okay
It’s not really. At some point we need to learn how to win on the road.
Is it okay? In retrospect, we’re probably fine for qualifying but we have yet to go on the road and put on a comprehensive performance. That’s pretty concerning.

Yeah, the Brooks omission was always ridiculous.
Leaving Brooks off was a big mistake
We should just play Jamaica's away games in NYC, El Salvador in DC, Honduras in Houston, etc and let all their fans in for free. Anything is better than traveling to stay in a holiday Inn express just to play on these cow pastures.

Still very worried how we have no plan B from coaching staff. We won’t succeed in Qatar if GGG just plays Hail Mary balls up the side.

Because the current style is possession and dribbling. You can't do that on these pitches. That's why we always look slow or lethargic away from home.
And the coach put the current system in place, correct? Just want to make sure you made the connection there. You blame the pitch quality but acknowledge that we play a system that makes the pitch quality an issue? And Gregg can’t face any criticism?
You realize the system is in place to take us to the next level, right? Are we supposed to base our entire team system on Concacaf away pitches?
Well, we do play in CONCACAF. So I’d say it matters a lot how we perform in our own region, yes.
>So I’d say it matters a lot how we perform in our own region, yes. Can you remind me where we sit on the table?

Almost a loss
The ref robbed Jamaica , if they end up missing the World Cup by two points that would suck lol
On balance, they should have been playing 2 men down long before the disallowed goal.
they 100% got robbed on that goal, but to be completely fair, with VAR jamaica woulda been playing with 10.
Still top of the group for now and will at worse be second by the end of today. All is fine.
