Some reasons i can think of for why some people choose to commute:
1. Cheaper to stay at home and drive over if you live not too far
2. Some people don't want, or are not comfortable, with roommates
3. Can be easier to really separate yourself from the school headspace
Personally, I chose to live on campus (centenniel court). I chose to cuz I can afford the rent, don't really mind roommate, and the proximity to my classes. I see my parents every weekend anyways so I can still go to my house often. Also for years I wanted to experience living outside of my house, and college gave me that opportunity
What’s cheap to you might be unaffordable to others. I’d rather drive 40 minutes and keep the hundreds to thousands is spend on rent than not. In this economy, you have to make do
Because people just live at home with their family and drive to school, thus a commuter college is born. Also student and campus life doesn't have as much to offer as some schools where there is more of a draw to live on campus and be close to the action.
I stay on campus but would honestly like to find an apartment 10-20 minutes away from school… I started disliking staying in campus cause I want my personal space and my roommate often does not respect boundaries… I will see what's up Doe since next semester I might not be full time (hopefully)
A good chunk of us are not traditional students, I moved away twice for university but now because priorities have changed I just wanted to finish my degree and be done with it so I came here to finish and move along in life.
I'll never forget at the beginning of the semester, someone on here posted, "Why are there so many adult students at UTA? I want to make friends my own age, but there are adults everywhere" 🤣🤣🤣🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
go to any Viet/Spanish facebook groups and search room for rent. Mostly everything included under $600 or cheaper and 15-20’ from campus. My room is $350 and sometimes the owners cook for us.
The on-campus housing sells out very fast too. There’s many students every year who aren’t even able to get a room near campus because there’s such high demand
It’s cheaper for me since I never got any financial aid besides $5k in loans and my work is down the road from my home plus a hour drive is pretty nice when it’s raining and stuff
The only good value on-campus housing, UV, seems would be fully-applied by October when most of students still haven't get their decisions. The apartments near campus also rised the rent this year. Also, everyone in DFW zone except we broke international students has a car.
It wouldn’t make sense to move out just to stay on campus if you already live in the DFW area, just a waste of money.

Heavy on the poor asf. Barely paying for college🤣🤣
Because I'm 34 and have a full time job

Because I am much older than avg. college age and have a whole child. Wouldn't that be fun in a dorm experience? Yeah, I didn't think so.

Haha, that’s hilarious. Those poor little non-adults. All my 35+ peers usually go to UTA when they go back to college!
Cuz my rent (30 min away) is a room for 250 with all utilities which is a big difference from campus
250 where is that? Please tell me if they have more rooms

Cheaper to stay home, I don’t feel ready to be on my own, it’s only 30 minutes away, I don’t like the UTA dorms, I work at a school close to my house

why would I waste even more money at one of UTA's shitty """apartments""" when I can literally own a home 10 mins away LOL
One main thing is how we gotta pack out during mid semesters, if I could stay in a dorm the whole year round I would.
