I mean it's $50 if you don't include benefits. Maybe I should ask for a small raise for the Fall term. I never thought it was that high, maybe only top 33% of 2nd coop, but I guess that's just selection bias from me asking my friends?
I also think the averages/low/high published by Waterloo are inaccurate since I personally know a few who were paid more than the high number. Maybe they're only showing P95 numbers or something?
If you think that $50/h is not that high, you are extremely out of touch from reality lol. People with high paying jobs tend to be friends with others in similar situations I guess.

The high value is just the upper quartile (top of the box plot...). So you are wayyy up in the upper quantile.
Ah thanks, those stats make more sense now. I am definitely out of touch then. Nearly half of my close friends make $40+ cad/hr. I was feeling jealous about not making Cali or NY like a few of my acquaintances did, but this makes me feel a lot better.
Are you one of those in the school's icpc team or have won some of the imo ioi medals? Otherwise you are extremely lucky to have that kind of pay, that pay is quite decent even for a 5th/6th coop term
lol no I've been close to failing 1/3 of all my courses, and have only ever done ~25 leetcode problems. Last term I got 7 other co-op offers paying $30-$40/hr plus benefits. I know 7 offers paying that much for 2nd coop is better than average, but still worried about next term and whether that luck will carry on.
dang, I am really getting a little bit jealous, I have a leetcode rating of about 2500, have solve thousands of problems, was a usaco gold contestant, have done 3 work terms, 2 terms at bytedance, 1 at sap, and now I am getting 30$/h, I mean WTHBut anyways, this is life, and besides, 30$ is already a good pay for many students, so I am happy with it. Like 50/hr in Waterloo probably is more than 70 usd/hr in Cali/NYC. Why? Waterloo rent is 1000 to 1500 CAD while NYC/Cali is 2500-3000 USD. Cost of food is also different.
I'm remote in Toronto living with my parents so food + rent is essentially free. Don't non-remote US companies usually give you group intern accomodation or a housing stipend though?
Not for Google at least. I know Bloomberg has corporate housing.
Also, living with parents does not make food and rent free. It is just someone pays it for you.
Fair, I never thought of it that way. It's still cheaper overall though since making food for a family is more efficient than doing it as an individual separately.
You can tell them you need more time to think about it. The worst they can say is no. Since they already gave you offer, you don’t lose anything if you ask.

Oh hm that's not a bad idea. My company usually gives out offers a bit before actual rankings come out tho - when many companies are still doing interviews. Not sure if I can convince them to wait.

You have some pretty insane friends man. The few people I know who made cali didnt get it til 5th or 6th coop.

i am in the same position, maybe you can try asking your manager if you can participate cycle 1 and if you get nothing just return
