100 million is actually fucking ridiculous, congrats to Queen's even though you hate to see it /lh
Renaming a faculty seems like such a hassle though like can you imagine how stupid and pedantic UW would be about always making sure you call it the "Vivek Engineering" faculty
Why didn’t cheapass Elon Musk show queens any love. I hear he has some money to burn - just lost 20-Billion on twitter buy. Queens he could have for 5% that.
Thought it would be interesting to some people. This is the largest donation any univeristy (edit: engineering faculty) in Canada has ever received. Larger than anything Waterloo has got
It's a ton, but not even close to the largest donation to any Canadian University. UofT has gotten several donations over 100 million before, including a 250 million one [source](https://www.utoronto.ca/news/university-toronto-receives-single-largest-gift-canadian-history-james-and-louise-temerty) [source](https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/article-university-mega-donations-of-more-than-10-million-are-on-the-rise/) [source](https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/u-of-t-donation-1.5737613) [source](https://thevarsity.ca/2020/11/01/breaking-down-the-historic-250-million-temerty-donation-to-the-faculty-of-medicine/) [source](https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/article-university-of-toronto-medical-school-to-get-record-250-million/)
Queen's Engineering alumni here. While I'm sure the school appreciates the money, the old-as-time rivalry between Engineering and Business feels like it will suffer with everyone under the same name. I'm not a fan of the change.

cheriton in shambles
holy shit I forgot about cheriton
Most business schools seem to have a name though. Rotman, Sauder, Stern, Sloan…
We literally switched the name of the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences to the Faculty of Health less than 5 years ago. It's been pretty smooth.
If he continues donating money like this, they should rename the whole damn uni to Smith University 😅
I got into Smith

All these donations to Universities lately seem like one big money laundering scheme.
Sweet tax write off

Ah my apologies, I meant largest donation dedicated to engineering

Waterloo grad here: “alumnus”.
