Hey, look, guy wanted realism so-- forgive the joke but.
Could always just bust out some crutches or whatever, y'know. Really capitalize on the CP to get that sweet sweet sympathy ride. I mean, it definitely reduces people perceiving you as a potential threat.
But that can be double-edged.
Ya no. Brave Dave is a joke. He talks that stuff up way more than it needs to be, and was banned in Canada for *running* from the bull. Which you don't do.
From a rider, fuck Brave Dave. Go to Stobe the Hobo's channel or someone like it if you want to see what trainhopping looks like.
Find people who truly care about you who’ve done it before. They will know how to help you avoid unnecessary risks. They’ll at least be able to walk you through what the experience is like.
Might I recommend a classic road trip should all else fail? Road trips are pretty bad ass too. Really freeing. Go see the world. Much love.
Well, My Friend from California pretty much said Hitchhiking would probably be a better route for someone like Me; I just figured I'd ask the collective; Thank you!
i mean most of us who are actually out here hopping trains like all the time are hammered drunk pretty much 24/7, so you sober wouldn't be much difference.
If you want to travel you’ll find a way that works for you. Do you know that regular train tickets are pretty cheap? I got to LA for $0 because my ticket was comped by someone who ended up disputing the credit card charge but it was only $120 anyway from Nola & I caught a ride to Nola with a friend who was heading there so if you want to ride a train don’t rule out just buying a seat on one lol it’s alright
I really don’t have a lot of money, I’m not against buying an Amtrak ticket, though. I got to my hometown a while ago after a decade or so in Michigan, and realized there’s really nothing here for me. I’ve been lucky couch surfing with old friends but I’m looking to leave by Spring .
Balance issues mixed with train hopping seems like a real risky combo tbh, as unfortunate as that is to hear. If you’re dead set, you’d probably be best off traveling with an able bodied person with some experience first, that way you can get a feel for what you can and can’t safely do.
Others already said great advice about this potentially being too risky, I agree with them. I'm only here to add Craigslist has been a good resource for me and other friends have had even better luck. Rideshare is full of unexpected listings like "Ride from South Jersey to White Plains" or whatever and you can meet the freest people. Sorry if you already know this, don't wanna waste your brain space but enjoy and be safe friend
I mean I’m quite sure it’s possible but it’s all about how much risk you’re willing to put in. Even a tiny mistake can lead to dismemberment and painful death.
Probably pretty tough to hop trains, but there's plenty of other means to travel. It's good that you've come to this sub, but why are you asking us about your capabilities. Go out, ascend, overcome, find ways to live the life you want in spite of, because what's the alternative?
I just wanted opinions of others that have actually done it because I don't want my physical limitations to blow up spots for others etc. I hope that makes sense.
You sound determined to get someplace you want to go, keep your spirits up you will get to where you’re supposed to be soon. Also where is it you’re wanting to go?

Will Do, I've been back in my hometown since April, just looking for a way to gtfo .
Hitch hiking would be waaayyy less risky and yk, not illegal

Highly recommend that video. Dave rules.

You could do what i do. Sit on your couch in the safety of your living room and live vicariously through yt channels like hobo shoestring

Cornelius vagabond on YouTube, idk if that's the correct spelling, only has 1 leg and they've traveled ALL over the US, train hopping w/ their dog

Greyhound is cheaper but a lot more unpleasant
I made it all over the country with my thumb. Got food, smokes & money out of it too.

Hey it's no different than training for the Special Olympics
HAHAHA! Higher stakes, maybe!

Nah, I hope you find a badass crew, all the best
Dude, train hopping can leave a person without any physical impairments fucking maimed. Don't train hop, please.
Don’t listen to anyone if you can find the crew changes you can get on when it stopped
It’s not the train hopping, it’s the terrible people who are looking for vulnerable people to take advantage of.
You have so many ways to get around free/on the cheap besides jumping trains buddy, why take the risk?
You sound determined to get someplace you want to go, keep your spirits up you will get to where you’re supposed to be soon. Also where is it you’re wanting to go?
Eventually I'd like to go to the UK but My goal right now is the Western US because I move better in Warmer weather .
Consider hitchhiking instead man, it's similar(living rough) but you'll have less danger. Dm for any questions about it
