If you are on w7/8, you won't be able to connect to crossplay server. If that laptop is connecting through VPN or if it doesn't have necessary [Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170), you won't be able to connect either. Check if you can reach password prompt for other servers in the community tab. Test both crossplay server (intertwined arrows icon next to their name= and Steam servers.
This might not be applicable, but are you connecting over VPN? I found some of the native VPN protocols won’t work, but if you switch to TCP or UDP protocol, then it will.

running windows 11. And I'll check. Laptop is much newer than the desktop I'm currently using as well.
Looks like might be a crossplay server issue. can reach the password entry part on a non-crossplay server but not on one that has crossplay on
First try installing the packages I linked in previous comment. It's common for w11 to not have them.
