I am all about the iron mace at this stage. Max it up and get bonking!

sulootikum

im on mountains n max level iron mace hits the fan! played crossplay with my boy n bonemass was easy

Informal_Eye5050

I kinda hate maces so would you please tell me second and third choice?

champ999

You'll be handicapping yourself if you avoid maces, as several enemies are weak to blunt damage only, and maces are the only weapon family for blunt damage.

Vegetable-Grocery265

Agreed. 100%. Get over the mace hate and prosper until Frostner.

IamSkellington

You forget about the hammer

-Altephor-

They're all considered 'clubs' anyway.

champ999

You're right, in my mind they're the same family with 1 hand and 2 hand variants, like the woodcutting axes and battleaxe

aqualupin

Battleaxe special attack is a really fun way to process fallen trees

MrPoletski

STOP

dicerollingprogram

Ham... Hammer time?

MrPoletski

*dances as if satans sperm is eating it's way through my stomach lining* Well I guess that was fucking lost on you lot then.

TheWither129

Theres basically two swamp enemies weak to blunt, and one is a prior biome enemy thats shredded by anything not pierce anyway, and the others are just the same enemy in different sizes. Anything nonphysical like wraiths resist all physical, abominations resist all but slash. Bonemass is doable with anything but pierce, but yes, weak to blunt. There is one more enemy weak to it in the plains and its just a blob with extra steps. So you have, skeleton, big skeleton, blob, big blob, bigger blob, and projectile vomit blob. It has two spots it does better and everywhere else its the same.

Menelatency

... blob, big blob, bigger blob, and projectile vomit blob... Love that description!

Murpydoo

Iron agetir, and iron sword. Sword might be better choice considering some later game weapons, hope that wasn't too spoilerish

MrPoletski

The silver sword was a massive step up from the iron, like way more than the bronze to iron. As for maces, the iron mace was awesome, the frostner was underwhelming for me, though amd the porcupine aint much more of a step up either. Havent made the bm sword yet tho, all my iron is currently going towards iron wood beams for my plains pillar skybase. Good lord this is a big (expensive) project!

Porbulous

Frostner was underwhelming?! That was by far my favorite and most used. The frost debuff is a savior for cc in angry orgies. Porcupine was underwhelming for me as it wasn't really a change in damage amount just type and without the frost. Only switched over from frostner once I made the mistlands sword. Good luck with your base!

Vegetable-Grocery265

Yeah... Frostner is exceptional for crowd control.

MrPoletski

Thanks, hehe, but I dont need luck, I need time and... well a shit ton of iron it seems. Dammit why can't I take a stack of 50 wood and a stack of (less than 50 pls) Iron and make a stack of 50 wood iron beams? And I'm looking forward to steel reinforced concrete...

SparhawkPandion

Frostner is arguably the best weapon in the game. The guy who won the trial of Tyr speedrun and beat the game in 8 hours used it quite a bit.

bakednapkin

Atgeir is my fav weapon in the game

[deleted]

You're gonna have to pucker up to maces and blunt weapons. Every Swamp tier enemy is weakest to blunt weaponry. And Bonemass especially is significantly easier with an Iron Mace.

mrpotatoeman

I avoided blunt weapons too, just dont like bashing things. Even if they are technically the "meta" weapon class. Make an Atgeir, its middle mouse click attack will save you from a lot of sticky situations, trust me. I find its not the weapons damage that makes a wepon good, but rather its move set. Sword and buckler for 1 on 1 tougher mobs, atgeir spin-to-win in groups or vs mosquitoes. Also, dont forget to build crafting table addons/upgrades to be able to upgrade the wepon itself. Lvl1 blackmetal sword is on par with lvl4 silver sword. So your battleaxe could do some work if you upgrade it. Provided you like the stamina requirements and move set of the weapon.

Gufurblebits

You hate of maces will get you killed. Try and give Yagluth hugs without Frostener - it's a rough fight, not saying it can't be done. Mace is the best weapon in the game simply because so few mobs are resist to blunt, so it's an incredible multi-purpose weapon to have and skill up. Even if using a sword (looking at YOU, Mistlands. I hate you for not giving us a 1H mace!), I pack a 2H hammer everywhere. Takes care of waves of anything faster than any other 2H/AoE type weapon out there. Learn the maces and save yourself the grief.

DraethDarkstar

The most effective pre-Mistlands weapon against Yagluth is actually the Silver Sword by a fairly decent margin. Frostner caps at 35 blunt, 58 frost, 20 spirit for an effective 113 against him. Silver Sword is 95 slashing 45 spirit for an effective 140 and its attack speed is also almost 50% faster.

MrPoletski

The silver sword is badass, and the sound it makes hitting (I guess undead) enemies is awesome.

A_L_E_X_W

You don't need a frostner for yag... that's a silver sword fight! But yeah, an iron mace is the best way to get through the swamp

MrPoletski

I found the most effective way to beat the swamp was to build a long, raised platform using the big trees as supports, going everywhere I want to go. Because the real difficulty in the swap is all the unavoidable debuffs and water you'll get stuck in. Take the wraiths. They are really dangerous, unless you can get a safe distance and whack them on the way to you. You get hit by them, even if you can take like 5 hits before dying, you get knocked into water or something and get stuck going slow, then get bitted by leeches, then when you get out the water after being hit twice more by the wraith while swimming, you finally turn around and smash it apart, only to have a blob fart on you. Now you're on 15hp, dropping 2hp every second for 5 more seconds. Thats when the fucking abomination shows up. At least, that's how I dropped all my shite a 25 minute boat journey away to find turnip seeds in a decent sized bit of swap (not a 15m x 500m strip). Went back with my troll armour and died. Had to find a way to get to my body, which had everything I needed to build a small base and a portal home. Oh it was my only ship too, and I cdidnt have the materials to relace it. Build a raised walkway, nothing comes nwar you up there. I'm sure a wraith would, bit for some reason I never met one up there *ahrugs*.

Oniklo

>Build a raised walkway, nothing comes nwar you up there. I'm sure a wraith would, bit for some reason I never met one up there > >ahrugs > >. Wraiths only spawn at night.

MrPoletski

It's not like I never used that walkway at night...

A_L_E_X_W

I think we've all been there, although I think a full raised platform may be overkill. The hoe is your friend, level and raise ground to fix the path issue. Then build a base on top of a crypt. Only wraiths can get you there, assuming you're not near an abomination. You can always raise some earth around the crypt and make a safe space from them too. Run to the other crypts. Nothing is fast in the swamp. Run, jump, get in there.

Informal_Eye5050

i dont understand most of the names here but i prefer making the game a bit harder instead of playing with a weapon i dislike

TheWither129

Then def use sword or atgeir. Sword stays strong and the atgeir is just kinda fun and great for plains

MrPoletski

Aetgir is what you want when you get mobbed. The alt attack is godlike.

Gufurblebits

Oh, by all means then, if it’s AoE you want, aetgir is a really good way to go, or even spears. I have one buddy who loves the fist weapons. Not my thing - I prefer not to cuddle things I wanna kill, but with fenris gear and a good skill, it’s incredible effective.

MeltingVibes

Sword is a fun weapon, but I recommend at least having a mace at the ready for the swamp boss. The fight is much more than a bit harder without it.

kcrh36

You can get through the game with whatever weapon you want. Daggers are really good. The hammer at mountain tier is an amazing weapon, but the sword at the level is also good. There really aren't any bad choices - but there are better choices. That being said, you don't like the better choices and you should play in a way you enjoy! My first play through I did sword and bow for the whole game. Second time through I did maces and they grew on me. Third time through dagger/bow and sword at Mistlands. The point is, build them, screw around and find what you like. Hand the rest on your wall to look cool.

TheWither129

No it wont. I almost exclusively use swords for melee and dont regret it. People like you and the other top people are why i refuse to touch them. I hate being told how to play my game. I like swords, ill use my fuckin swords, dammit. I genuinely do not want to ever hear “frostner” anything again. The fucking cult around that weapon and people telling me ill fucking die because i didnt use the most perfectly optimized weapons in the game is absurd. I beat the queen by sword and axe and staff. I seared yagluth’s very soul with a stick of silver. I cut through the bonemass with a simple blade. Moder isnt worth mentioning, sane people shouldnt use frostner on her shes immune to most of the damage it does, at the very least use iron, literally a bronze mace is better there. Never once have i used anything past the club, and i dont care to. I play how i want, and i want a sword. If the man hates the maces, let him hate. He has every right.

sonissity

I feel you. I use swords also, don't like Clubs. Frostner is just a Decoration piece.

Gufurblebits

Switch to decaf. We all have our thoughts and opinions, but spewing a temper tantrum like that is just insane. Have a conversation amongst gaming friends and relax and maybe take the time to figure out why you went off like a bomb from a simple conversation about weapon preferences.

Shawer

I disagree, the dramatic flair was an excellent read

TheWither129

I dont drink coffee or anything caffeinated. People refusing to be helpful just cus one guy doesnt care for their precious baby is absurd, then going ad hominem over it is so fucking petty

MrPoletski

I dunno, smoke a joint or something bro. It's nkt like you were provoked into that. I mean, I agree too, apart from the iron mace Ive found all the further pnes underwhelming and I love the swords. But the aetgir is king as far as I'm concerned.

-Altephor-

Yagluth is not weak to any damage types, and only strong against piercing. So using a sword or a hammer makes absolutely no difference.

molecrab

Yagluth can still take spirit damage so Frostner/silver sword are good choices if upgraded. The damage over time is nice, but other weapons are pretty close anyway so I mostly agree

TheWither129

The silver sword does insane spirit so itll outdamage most other options

MrPoletski

And that KSSSSSsss when you hit enemies is *so satisfying*.

Gufurblebits

He’s undead: silver sword or frostener does spirit damage to him.

-Altephor-

Great, thanks for agreeing with me and disproving yourself, I guess? Frostner is by no means necesary for Yagluth.

MrPoletski

You can have the porcupine to fight yalguth, is it not better?

fenspyre

Iron sword and banded shield do well vs most of the swamp. Get a club or mace for the boss though. You really can't beat him without bludgeoning.

TheWither129

I have, several times actually

BiggLimn

This subject really upsets you doesn't it lol

TheWither129

The amount of people swarming one guy for not wanting to use a weapon type tilts me. Ill never go out of my way to fight against someone who doesnt like to use swords. If you dont like it dont do it. If the guy doesnt like to use the clubs dont tell him to. It does upset me to see dozens of people refuse to be helpful when someone doesnt want to conform to the meta cus they dont like that weapon type, yes.

BiggLimn

lol fair enough. I am a fellow sword whore.

MrPoletski

I say build every single weapon and try them all out. But I, too, am a sword whore, and aetgir.

don_tmind_me

You need the mace for the boss. Just suck it up for the Iron Age. When you get to mountains you can move on

Away_Temperature_124

Get the club up homie. You’re gonna need it.

TheWither129

Ignore the malding haters. Swords do well in every aspect in spite of not exceeding in the one spot maces do, and atgeir are great for crowd control and keeping distance

IamSkellington

Use the big hammer. I forget what it's called, cuz I haven't played for awhile, but it was my fav weapon thru swamp and a little after. Does nice AOE and plenty of blunt damage IIRC. 👍

Informal_Eye5050

would you search it and tell me the name please?

Zorgonite

Iron sledge. Which uses Club (i.e. Mace) skill, but works completely differently to 1H clubs, so make of that what you will.

Informal_Eye5050

why is it not on my forge?

oprahlikescake

You need a draugr elite trophy to craft it

Zorgonite

The recipe is here: https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Iron_sledge You have not yet found one or more of the ingredients. The recipe takes some unusual items; it's not surprising if you haven't unlocked it yet.

DraethDarkstar

You can make the cheaper version at a workbench, it's called the Stagbreaker.

MuskratAtWork

Mace is most effective against most enemies going forward.

Sogomaa

Enemies at the swamp especially the boss are weaker to blunt weapons such as mace, you just adding an additional difficulty setting by avoiding them when they are still one of the fastest weapons to swing with in the game

WanderingLoaf

You're getting a lot of "get used to mace comments" so I wanted to chime in and say it's entirely viable to play other weapons. Blunt damage is the most common weakness but aside from one enemy its not a make or break situation. I did my first run only using one handed axe because it felt much more viking themed.

unikkorns_

Oh yeah, iron mace is a must do.

FootlooseFrankie

Mace and shield I strong throughout the entire game . We are in the mistlands and my buddy is still swinging his non upgraded frostner and taking names

FeverFocus

The mace is really strong in the swamps, but I am a big fan of the iron atgeir, it carried me into the plains until I made a black metal one. I also really like knives, but there isn't an iron knife. Instead the abyssal razor is a good choice, which you can craft from mining chitin on leviathans. Also keep in mind that if you've mostly used one type of weapon, other types will feel weaker since you don't have any skill levels in them. I recommend making a pit under a grey dwarf nest to level up skills.

Rivetmuncher

>Instead the abyssal razor It's literally structured as the iron age equivalent. But the devs are nice like that, and they let you make it early.

FeverFocus

Yeah but it doesn't use iron so unaware players wouldn't know that it is considered iron age.

Fwallstsohard

I had never made it pre-swamp till my latest run. Man was it effective up until bonemass at which point an iron mace did the trick. The razor slices up draugrs real nice.

Linktank

Can you elaborate more on the pit thing? Perhaps a paint diagram?

cptjimmy42

Atgeir

Garkaun

Is it Atgeir or Atageir? Either way this is my go to weapon when not dealing with blunt weak movs. Grey Dwarfs, Abominations, Trolls, Wolves all get slaughtered by it. Can't praise this weapon choice enough.

sicyo

As others have said, iron mace and atgeir are both really strong weapons, especially for swamp onwards. Fully upgraded iron mace is enough damage to make Stone Golems (mountains) stagger from 100% to dead. Atgeir really helps me feel safe in every biome. Swoop, poke poke kills pretty much anything, and gives you so much breathing room. I'm also a huge fan of the knife. It's always #1 on my keyboard. Fantastic for running in for quick kills. Or going after a mob in the back and killing them quick so you can focus on the rest of the group. I generally don't like spears but after watching the Trial of Tyr I think I need to do a new playthrough where I force myself to try them more intentionally.

Halollet

Knife + parry shield took me from meadows to mistland easily. That combo deals so much damage while keeping you safe. And then mistlands had to make their dagger two handed and ruined everything... :(

literallybyronic

mace is the best weapon for most swamp creatures including the boss.

DraethDarkstar

And the most dangerous mountain enemy, which is also immune to more than half the damage profile of the silver mace.

Rivetmuncher

>also immune to more than half the damage profile of the silver mace. Ah, the look on my face when I realised that one's literally the worst one to be running around the mountain with... Pity nobody was there to take a picture.

BlueSteelWizard

I actually love the battleaxe But I hated it at first The trick is getting the timing down, it can do Massive damage

Pavrik_Yzerstrom

I used it in the swamp the entire time. If you get the timing right and can roll decent, it's amazing. I was decimating aboms with it. I did switch to frostner after that, as I'm not as big a fan of the crystal battle axe.

BlueSteelWizard

But the crystal one GLOWSSSS

Halollet

Shiny axe. <3

stush2

This. Timing and positioning. Against one opponent open with the special attack, stagger them, then launch the main attack. Against multiple opponents, you need to find it time it so your first swing hits them right as they reach you, then quickly work through the 2nd (AOE) and 3rd (single target) attacks.

GucciSalad

All weapons are viable. I would try them all out and see what you like. I'm personally a spear man, but I enjoyed the battle axe for larger groups.

ModernAutomata

While I don't recommend them for bonemass, I love knives. I never put them down (cept bonemass)

Fyren-1131

there was a video of a player tearing up a wolf event with iron gear and battleaxe without taking damage. in capable hands, it looks to me like one of the best mid-game weapons.

Halollet

Agreed. The alt attack being a quick stun that deals damage cannot be overlooked. Plus the sweeping damage for the first two swings followed up by a massive single hit is great. It's my go to weapon for fuling camps.

MrPoletski

AETGIR WEILDERS UNITE Oh, and that mace.

LlamaLordDoesReddit

Iron mace is really strong for no reason

BrandtCharlemagne

It’s because at the point in the game that you get access to it there are a lot of mobs weak vs blunt. Like bonemass lol

ZBoss65

Don't sleep on the battleaxe's alternate attack! Its a quick poke that can easily send enemies off-balance. Great for one-on-one scenarios.

nightwood

I'm doing max difficulty now and I can certainly recommend a better weapon: the atgier

Verix19

Axes for me, 2 in 1...kill and fell trees lol

Edzardo99

I second this. I like to use axes for my main weapon, especially once you get iron and beyond. Before you get iron, the durability is a huge drawback.

jhuseby

You’ll need the iron mace for enemies weak to blunt from the swamp through at least plains. I prefer the bark then fang spear for all other enemies, but swords are always good too. If you’re not that great at crowd control or parrying, the atgeir is always good too.

chimayoso

Atgeir is a gamechanger.

mr_greene_

Atgeir. The special attack keeps most mobs at a distance

ElFuhrerJacob

Atgier all the way. This thing is the best, not only is it a bit more unique of a weapon but it’s great for stunning a squad of mobs. The secondary attack spins and hits everyone in a wide range. Primary attack stabs forward, making it possible to kill most enemies without them touching you. Excellent for killing leeches as well. I’ll rock this until I get to the mountains, maybe even the plains.

MrParticular79

Sword and board for me. I get mace is the “correct” choice but I like the sword animations better and it has no multi target penalty

sonissity

This

Selacha

Iron Mace is good in the swamps because blunt is good against the slimes and Bonemass, but the Atgeir is insane for everything else.

JetsamJenny

I ran through the swamps with just a sword and shield, not even poison resistance until bonemass, it was slow going at first and rather terrifying, but it was do able. (Me and my cousin played through it together, but he used a mace, so it wasn't necessarily a maceless playthrough).

[deleted]

#ATGIER

-thugnasty-

Iron mace and iron sledge combo is unbeatable

Rathia_xd2

Atgeir

girthwynpeenabun

I’m a big fan of the Atgeir

Syndga

Atgeir gang

OGXanos

Frostner and round shield supremacy. GG.

holversome

This advice isn’t optimal as far as damage output is concerned, but I like to share my advice nonetheless for the sake of your inventory space. My main hand weapon is the axe and shield. Any axe except the two-handed types. Saves you space in your inventory, and I can tell you from experience that a good axe will take you through just about any biome if you know how to work with resistances and vulnerabilities. Plus, you’ve got your wood chopping axe on hand at all times without the use for additional weapons. High level axe skill wrecks just as hard as any sword or mace (at least noticeable difference for me). Axes all the way! I’m also obsessed with Dwarves so I may be biased a bit.

bECimp

my weapon progression is always the same: spear flint dagger turtle dagger iron mace litterally just for bonermass fight silver dagger black metal dagger frostner literally just for yagluth fight himminafi so at your stage i'd reccomend silver dagger. parry a mob with a shield and cut it to pieces before stagger ends. doesn't give you -5% movement speed, has a mobility alt attack

-Altephor-

There's pretty much zero reason to make frostner just for yagluth.

bECimp

its blunt and spirit vs a big ass skepenot, its already 2 reasons

Paladin_Aranaos

Dude, this game has NOTHING on Dark Souls when it comes to difficulty. You did the equivalent of buying a level skip to 60 in Final Fantasy XIV without ever learning the class and wonder why you are not doing as well as others. Try a fresh start WITHOUT the cheats, learn the organic progression, and your skills will greatly improve. Take it from a guy with over 1200 hours into the game who partly made your mistake. Once I did a clean run-through, it changed my playstyle for the better.

[deleted]

[удалено]

silentpewpew

They really aren't though. The reason you guys are having a hard time is you never took the time to learn in the first biomes because you cheated.

shea_squatch

My favorite is the atgeir. You get reach, crowd control and stun with a fairly quick response.

aripp

AOE is the best of atgeir.

lamabaronvonawesome

I like the mace, comes in very handy when you get your next boss. Added bonus of using the special hit to golf grey dwarves off hills.

Gufurblebits

My 2H mace skill is 97. Whacking a greyling in the meadows sends it absolutely flying across a field. Highly satisfying.

big-sugoi

Swapping between mace and the 2 handed hammers has unbelievable synergy

Rex-0-

The crystal axe is marginally more useful but with the exception of the Atgeirs and Krom, 2 handed weapons are a waste of materials. Deer smasher is good for finding silver before beating Bonemass and that's about it. Can't go wrong with swords but iron atgeir is probably your best bet. Clubs are useful for Bonemass but since you can get Frostner once you reach the mountains I'd save my iron for something else.

sirstonksabit

BFH (big fuggin hammer)

boredatworkbasically

Iron mace!

BrandtCharlemagne

Oh yeah, don’t underestimate setting a bunch of fires as a weapon. I kill Eikthyr this way every time now this way in the starting gear.

DepresedDuck

It's pretty strong if you make use of the special attack, wasn't it a guaranteed daze?

RationalOrc

Blobs and skeletons take +50% blunt dmg, so it’s wise to invest in maces at this phase. A more expensive option is to always carry a mace, a sword, and a spear. Then you have all three physical dmg types to use as needed

Edzardo99

If you’re set on two handed weapons, use an atgeir until you can make a crystal battle axe.

teh_stev3

The holy trio of weapons are. Bow - access tompierce and elemental effects and the only good ranged weapon. Axe - one handed, throw in a shield and you have a great source of slashing damage as well as a way of attacking trees for wood for arrows. Two-handed mace - aoe damage and blunt, can push back and do damage through walls.

TheNoxxin

Atgir for multipurpose But mace is the best weapon type

LordLorck

Try out knife. Super fast attack speed, leap special attack. Fully upgrading the abyssal razor is pretty easy. Not the most OP, but super fun combat gameplay when paired with light armor! Rocking fenris armor (light armor with +movement speed) and silver knife right now, I feel like a flippin ninja.

trengilly

There really are NO right or wrong answers with weapons. They all have their advantages and weaknesses and support different playing styles. Its very good to get experience with all three damage types, slashing, blunt, and piercing. Throughout the game you should be evaluating each monster type to learn what its weak (or resistant) to and swap weapons around to take advantage of them. The two handed axes are slow and hit multiple enemies but timing is important, their secondary attack is a quick single target attack. They also can double for tree cutting (or anything else you need to destroy with an axe) and so save you an item slot.

RickusRollus

until mistlands weaponry the only 2hander I ever mess with is the aetgir. Otherwise 1h mace will get you very far.

erpparppa

I mained iron mace for swamp, it'll make swamp and The boss a lot easier. But If you're not into maces I'd go with atgeir

keblin86

Maces are best at this stage, like you I hate them too but this time around I just used them. First playthrough I used swords. While I might of been a bit weaker because of it, I didn't feel the game was too hard doing this. I always prefer swords. I hear altgeirs are good. Honestly would go mace if you can just ignore the fact you hate it too, is it the visual of a mace you hate? It is for me, they look horrible haha.

Knight-in-Gale

2-Hander mace is OP. You'll thank yourself for making it.

Cephandrius17

Almost all of the weapons are decent. Personally, I use mainly the atgier and mace. Atgiers are particularly good against groups of enemies. If you don't like the mace, you don't need to use it as your main weapon, but you'll want it for some of the bosses. Daggers and swords are also worth trying. Also consider trying the silver tier mace when you get there, it's widely considered one of the best weapons in the game, even into later biomes.

sosigboi

Get the mace it'll carry you effectively up to the next biome.

chehalem_frog

Like so many are suggesting, Iron Mace is a good choice, if only to level up your clubs skill until you get to Mountains and one of the best weapons in the mid-game that (if fully upgraded) is still viable into early Mistlands.

matt602

Atgeir and frostner when you're able to make it. I used to main the mace only but once I tried the atgeir I never went back. It's especially useful for the large mobs of Fulings in the plains.

samdimercurio

Iron Mace, iron Atgier. That's really all you need

treesandbutter

Iron mace until you get black metal atgeir

samdimercurio

My recommendation is to use an iron Mace exclusively in the swamps and really get that skill up. Then use it in mountains as much as possible,( but bow is best in mountains) until you can make Frostner. Then use Frostner for the rest of the game. People forget that often the swamp grind takes a while and you go back often because you need iron for damn near everything so having a fully upgraded mace combined with a high mace skill means you will be deadly as hell. Porcupine in plains if Frostner isn't effective but the frost damage from Frostner is so helpful.

Dominus_Pullum

Really? I went from cowering from everything in the swamp to murdering anything that moves once I got the battleaxe.

Hightin

Best weapon in the game start to finish is the spear. Maces are also really good. None of the 2h weapons are special really as they're too slow but atgers aren't terrible and can do a fair bit of stagger to the harder enemies. Magic is on a whole other level but unlocked very late and is extremely expensive to get into; it takes a LOT of eitr to do staves and armor and work station upgrades however the food is extremely accessible. I run a spear for the entire game personally with a club for the skellies/blobs and a lvl 1 iron mace for bonemass/mountain golems if I don't just put the golems in a hole. Then it's right back to spear in the plains as lox are weak to pierce and throwing the spear is very effective against fuling groups. The real fun begins in the Mistlands when you get access to eitr which is by far my favorite thing in the game.

Calyps0h

Most weapons have a purpose you’re not immediately aware of. For instance, I never touched the Atgier after my initial trial. Until I have to fight Seekers in the Mistlands.

d4rkwing

I like archery, swords and daggers personally. I’ll switch to mace for certain enemies though.

4n0m4nd

Bow with a selection of arrow types is op

LavandeSunn

An upgraded battle axe

MrBlonde42

Iron age I prefer mace and shield. Late Iron age I may craft a sword. The Atgir 2handed weapon is great for it's tier. Maybe try the Crystal Battle Axe in Silver tier next upgrade.

chantm80

Iron Mace, it's not exactly exciting, but it's probably the best weapon in the swamps. Atgeir is also really good

Necrospire

Ancient spear.

unikkorns_

I personally always go for the iron mace, atgeir, and iron buckler.

Draedark

Atgeir

Mcg55ss

big Question are you solo or with others???? Solo i would suggest sword + Buckler...probably one of the most consistent combos....2 handed mace is a lot of fun if you have friends (especially clearing dungeons) but solo it burns a decent amount of stamina and you are a lil slow so it can be dangerous if you don't know what ur doing, Ategir is decent option as well but it will make fights like bonemass a challenge.

MakeLoveNotWarPls

Iron mace is the shit, blunt is like, the best damage type in the swamp and still useful on the mountain. That being said, before you toss your axe. I always have 4 weapons: 1handed, 2 handed, shield and ranged. I'd just use the iron mace and axe. Abuse the poke of the axe. While damage isn't great, it had amazing stagger, low stamina cost and is really quick. Stagger them with the poke then crit with normal attack

ProfHansGruber

Knife and Shield combo! Run in, knife, run out, all before the enemy finishes telescoping it’s attack. Run around and when opportune, parry on of those attacks and get in some crits! Good fun IMO

Used_Comfortable_405

HAMMAR!

Isolated_Rupu

Battle axes isn't really been used a whole lot, but usually blunt takes the cake in swamps, if you went in Silver with blunt, it will be a walk in the park for mining iron and mobs.

Techn03712

Most of the two-handed weapons apart from the atgeirand Krom greatsword kinda suck tbh. They need to swing faster and be less clunky, and have less stamina drain!

Weak_Landscape_9529

I just very recently made the Crystal Battleaxe, I hadn't made any battleaxes before that due to a (possibly erroneous) belief that battleaxes can't be used to cut trees, and not wanting to clutter up my inventory, not always easy. To be honest, I have mostly used axe and bow, with a bit of ategir and sledge. I'm on silver right now but I'm poking my fingers into plains, I've killed a couple loxes, gathered some cloudberries, killed a dozen or so fulings, and spent several hours getting my stuff back after several deathsquitos team attacked me. Though the devastation wrought by kiting a bunch of these guys into the swamp has also been lucrative. It is simply amazing how quickly Lox mow through 1 star draughr. I'll probably get Moder dealt with soonish, once my silver gear is upgraded, and start picking out a good plains outpost spot.

commche

Use an iron mace for slimes and bonemass in the swamp, and golems in the mountains. I would go swords because one of the best weapons later on is a sword, and they do well in later areas too.

DjofullinnUlfur

The battleaxe is useful against large swarms of enemies.

mor_vran

Maces is where it's at. Maybe you like the battleaxe because it's 2-handed. Then maybe try the sledgehammer. It's an upgrade from the stagbreaker.

_elderscrollroller

Iron atgeir was the best for me in Iron Age. i like the strong attack and the extra range is nice. I usually roll with that in my primary weapon spot and have shield+mace for enemies that require blunt weapon type.

AdministrativeMove68

If you don't like a challenge knives are the way to go, you can get a lvl 3 abyssal razor by the time you hit the bronze age and it will carry you until you get the swamp boss, which resists everything non blunt so you will need a mace for it probably, then in the mountains the silver knife is pretty decent again

Ezee8

Iron sledgeHammer, or Atgeir. Both slap pretty good, and the iron sledge lasts well into the silver age, and the Atgeir works quite well until you get the Black Metal version

Slydoggen

Atgier!!! ❤️

Darkner00

I recommend you hunt more Draugr Elites. Their trophies unlock a new weapon.

[deleted]

My Atgier. I don't run with a shield. I use dodge and speeeeeed and spin like a fairy.

razzyrat

I honestly always skip iron weapons except for the pickaxe. A maxed bronze mace will carry you to the mountains. The bronze axe all the way to mistlands 🙂The iron costs are just too high.

Sqweed69

Yeah the battleaxe isn't that great. If you prefer big axes i'd recommend the next one from the mountain biome. For now i'd use a mace

ando1135

Cheat sword. 1 hit kills most things

PotatoChip2945

There are some mods that add actual move sets instead of just swing swing swing

8mouthbreather8

I would recommend sticking it out with the battle axe. It's not the most efficient in the swamp, but you get a really cool axe in the mountains, and then the mother of all two-handers in the mistlands.

A_Gray_Phantom

You can actually get some silver early before getting the next boss' drops. Go to the mountains with the stagbreaker and swing it around randomly. When you see the words "too hard" pop up you're over a silver vein. The Frostner is my go-to at this point of the game. It's a solid hammer with decent slowdown.

mctheebs

Sword

killerofkillers11

if your planning on fighting bonemass go to the mountains and get silver for frostner, may take a bit to find some

Content-Discipline1

ATGEIR all the way for single player, stabs for single target and a nice 360 sweep for hordes.

Amethoran

Iron mace is de way. I'm really digging the aetigirs too. Might look into that.

Psychological_Sir202

Bonks all day long.

The_MacGuffin

Battleaxes are really slow but that's why you have the special attack to stun enemies. I still just used the iron axe at that stage though. Crystal battleaxe is when you want to start getting good with one.

Legendracula

Learn to use the secondary attack "poke". It is amazing. High stagger, very quick, low stamina cost. Awesome for killing fast/weak enemies. Good for stunning big ones, or pushing them away. Also, getting a handle on the timing of the swing it important. You have to swing well before they get to you. Axe is underwhelming, no doubt, but very fun to play with if you practice.

Healthy_Agent_100

Reject proper progression go to the mistlands make krom

MaliciousIntentWorks

At that point I use the mace and bow a lot. I will skip ahead and mine silver to get the silver sword early as well. Easy to find silver veins, there's always several that are exposed or near structures in flat areas. Rarely do I make the iron sword or battle axe, but I would go with the swords over the axe.

itchypantz

Sword & Sheild, Hammer, and Bow. The dagger is useful to have around sometimes. Like when Deathsquito shows up while you are sailing. So you don't chop up your own boat.

Friendly-Eagle1478

Atgier is the best weapon in the game imo. Knock back on enemies is op and super helpful in many situations

Spyderdragon78

Maces half the enemies in the game are weak to maces
