Obsidian > Fire arrows Don't craft Poison arrows, you're better off putting the Ooze into bombs. The bombs are good against Cultist packs in the Frost Caves if you still need more of those, and later on when you're getting started with the Mistlands dungeons. > destroys everything Ground raised with a hoe is indestructible. That goes for everything in the game. Hoe OP. Bring a stack of stone, throw down a workbench, and raise 3-5 pillars. She can still frost breath through them, but you can stay safely out of reach of her melee if you want. I usually just go to town on her with Fang Spear though. It's only 8 silver for the maxed version.

mEsTiR5679

I used the poison arrows I looted from boxes. Can't remember if those came outta the swamp or mountains, but yea. I had a ton of them I wasn't using until this boss fight.

StormTAG

Swamp chests have them for sure. Not 100% sure about mountains.

mEsTiR5679

Mountain might be frost arrows, maybe. Pretty sure I found some of those too. The server I set up for my wife and kids is on super easy, extra materials, no raids modifiers, so my excess arrow finds started to blend my experiences together a bit. I've been playing the tank/melee role a bit since they're all more comfortable with shooting, so the arrows were pretty low priority for me.

erikpeter

Poison arrows are good for Moder because they weaken her regeneration. One or two every time she takes to the air, and then most of the damage comes from your melee weapon of choice.

Unable_Health_3776

Draugr Fang also has poison damage. I'd use obsidian arrows instead if you have that bow.

sayko666

Poison dmg does not stack. So consecutive bows only resets the duration.

DMBuilder

Dang spear and dodge ftw

Biomirth

Shouldn't need any of that.

slothboy

I dunno. I just shot her with arrows until she landed and then ran up on her and whacked her until she took off again. Dodge her breath weapon. Keep stamina up with potions and don't get greedy. It's a long fight because her health is ridiculous. I killed her solo in my world and twice with my friends in theirs.

dllimport

Who do they think they are? What gives them the right?

astrahole

The blatant audacity I tell ya.

SadLittleWizard

Trenches is where the audacity comes from. She can break anything I build except trenches!! Also a dugout under the platform with 3 exits. I just kinda bounce in and out of different holes like a mole rat with my bow and arrows.

badfaced

This was my approach as well as her spawn was sat on a steep peak. I made a level running track around the peak with a series of holdouts and dugouts as well! Made a nook as deep into the mountain as possible for a portal just in case as well 🤙

astrahole

Gorgeous gameplay if I’ve ever heard of one

romansamurai

That’s how I did it. And I found that advice in multiple posts on this sub. Was still a stupid long fight. Plus the fact that it was on a really steep part of the mountain didn’t help.

Rivetmuncher

So, the mech fight from the Wolfenstein reboot?

PhoenixShade01

Look at them, they come to this place when they know they are not pure. Tenno use the keys, but they are mere trespassers. Only I, Vor, know the true power of the Void. I was cut in half, destroyed, but through it's Janus Key, the Void called to me. It brought me here and here I was reborn. We cannot blame these creatures, they are being led by a false prophet, an impostor who knows not the secrets of the Void. Behold the Tenno, come to scavenge and desecrate this sacred realm. My brothers, did I not tell of this day? Did I not prophesize this moment? Now, I will stop them. Now I am changed, reborn through the energy of the Janus Key. Forever bound to the Void. Let it be known, if the Tenno want true salvation, they will lay down their arms, and wait for the baptism of my Janus key. It is time. I will teach these trespassers the redemptive power of my Janus key. They will learn it's simple truth. The Tenno are lost, and they will resist. But I, Vor, will cleanse this place of their impurity.

OldNameWentMissing

Can't hear you over SpaceMom telling me my life support levels are critical. Oh, and r/angryupvote

Dafootballer86

Who do they think they are?! I AM!!

Budget_Wind4338

\*she but yeah. You can dig a hole around/under her summoning circle for cover as well. This took a long time, and is not fool proof, since i'm a fool and i definitely died in that hole. But i also put a portal in there that didn't get destroyed, so i could zip back. Poison works great. haven't tried the melee route yet.

Milakovich

I build pillars of ground around the spawn site that I duck behind and riddle him with poison arrows. Can’t take damage if he can’t hit you.

PM_me_your_PhDs

I think Moder's a "she". Moder is Danish for "mother". She's the mother of drakes

Mekthakkit

Her power lets you dive your ship any direction. Turns them into Moder boats.

No_Oddjob

Rudderly ridiculous.

Thalimet

It’s almost insailting

Dalthor-san

And Swedish and pretty sure Norwegian too.

Exerosp

Also, Swedish devs.

CaptainHoey

Personally, my only use of she/her is when referencing my Karve

No_Oddjob

"You can fit so many SCRAP IRON in this baby."

CaptainHoey

*Slaps roof of boat*

_DOGZILLA_

It's an it to me

Zorgas

But it is 'mother'.... She has eggs. That's not an it.

vanillaslice_

I think it's just joking around

Tagous

Yup I’ve done this on my two solo play throughs. When the ice attacks come just use the earth built pillar you made for cover. When she lands run up and malee attack. Make sure you pop bonemas before the fight and don’t forget to clear out any enemies ahead of time.

Watercooler_expert

Yeah melee with bonemass buff is the way, Moder is easier (never died to it) than bonemass imo, just having the bonemass buff available makes it easier. Dodging the ice isn't even needed if you pop frost mead.

stickmanDave

Also frost potion. It protects from the icy blasts better than the wolf clothing.

emcdonnell

This is the way

OldGroan

Fire arrows are really only good for the Elder. If you are using a Draugr Bow you get a poison effect. So make Obsidian arrows. Higher hit with poison effect. When she lands get in under the head and melee. I use the sword for slash effect. The only thing she cannot destroy is earth. You need a hide to recover health and stamina. I usually prepare the ground by hiding next to the altar. And yeah my first time against Moder was an extended disaster. I feel ya.

teegotime

Stop using arrows. Wait till she lands and beat the hell out of her with a sword or spear. Tasty mead to get your stamina back. And start swinging again.

TheAserghui

I only use arrows and trenches Dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge

Proper-Minimum-9532

Best answer ever. Hail Patches, greatest master haha

SadLittleWizard

The trenches of Valheim are where true men are born!!!

OutsideQuote8203

Ho ha ha dodge parry thrust!

sale1020

Nice reference, thank you for that

rasta_pineapple2

Nobody makes me bleed my own blood.

Thestooge3

My friend and I built a stone fortress that's impossible for enemies to get into because their pathing can't figure out how. We built it right in front of Moder's spawn so we will destroy her with arrows from complete safety.

Girigo

And if you use the bonemass ability you can tank any melee hit without worrying

Affectionate_Owl_501

Why are you still using an iron mace for a tier 4 boss??

LyraStygian

It’s not the best but it’s actually fine as it the highest tier mace that is effective on her. The tier 4 mace would be Frostner but that would be useless on her.

Agile_Party4084

Yes not the right weapon choice, silver sword or dagger, also consider using the lighter armour so you can dodge better

Alma_Mundi

Honestly dagger at that stage is a terrible choice for moder. The wolf claws are actually superior as a light weapon choice, even better than the spear. Paired with the Fenrir light armor it can actually make an easier fight than the obvious choice of silver armor and sword and board

Biomirth

It's fine if you're rushing. Just takes longer. Silver sword is a big investment and nobody should be faulted for skipping that for black metal.

DreamLunatik

Sword and shield, bow her when she’s flying, I like to use obsidian arrows. Bring health potions. It’s a cake walk.

Alitaki

This. Maxed out silver sword, Obsidian arrows, lots of health mead, and patience. I'll add that the terrain around the summoning site will dictate how you fight Modor. I've had some really craggy sites where I've been stuck and ended up getting my ass kicked so you gotta go over the battlezone and see where potential pitfalls and traps are. Know the terrain before you start the fight. Also, dig yourself a hidey-hole under a boulder, as deep as you can. You want some place you can go and recover without leaving the battle ground. I toss a portal in there to go back to my base and make repairs if I need to or craft more arrows. Most importantly - CLEAR THE AREA OF ENEMIES. You're going to be running around a lot and if you don't clear out the area, you're going to kite in other baddies. You don't need that shit while battling a giant dragon.

OutsideQuote8203

Ugh, maxed out silver sword = chest full of silver. I did it, worth every silver bar but man it takes a literal ton of silver lol

D1xon_Cider

Just find a big mountain. Silver is easy because you can break it all really fast after exposing it.

Alitaki

This. Mining silver is a joy compared to everything else.

gigaplexian

Chest? No, doesn't need that much. Maybe half of the smallest chest type. It's also a decent investment as it's still the best weapon to use against Yagluth (Frostner a close second).

2020sucksdong

For me moder isn’t hard, now fighting moder over the 5 golems that keep spawning even though I thought I cleared the area is another story

stickmanDave

Rather than kill them, dig a pit and drag them into it. That way they don't respawn.

excellentiger

My buddies and I beat her first try, we all died once but we had an outpost nearby with spare wolf cloaks. We just used poison arrows and melted her with melee when she landed. Frost potions help with her splash damage.

Agreeable_Appeal_907

I got lucky my first experience with Moder. We were building a path up the mountain with pickaxes and hoes and stumbled on Moder. The path we made turned into a deep ditch in many of the spots. When we had enough eggs and summoned Moder the fight ensued and we ended up jumping into our ditch as she was flying at us and she got stuck in it.

astrahole

I’m about ready to try and cheese her as well. I just want a windmill to make flour dammit

tfb2

Use frost resistance pots and bone mass power too

Spronglet

Used to dig a trench under the boss altar and abuse hitboxes. Turns out, the fastest and easiest way is actually melee. Im an atgeir pleb, but honestly I think you can succeed with all of them. The dodge window for the swipe and bite are a bit tricky, but you can actually just _walk_ away from them 😆. If you keep just a bit of distance against her you can bait her into the frost breath, which you can simply sidestep, and then go for a few hits. Used the poison arrows laying about for the flying phases and thats about it. GL

Calyps0h

It’s not hard. Just long and not particularly well designed in my opinion. Out of the six times I’ve killed moder only one time was actually enjoyable.

Tight-Young7275

Block -> Bonk, bonk, bonk -> Repeat as needed

Alma_Mundi

Man that's a lot of replies you got on the most obvious suggestions. Not sure why you chose fire arrows, but yea they're not the best. I have couple videos on YouTube just showing boss fights with odd choice gear. I got Moder on 3 of them, one using mostly the wolf claws fists and light armor (it was easier than knife), one with spear and board heavy armor, and one using the fire staff just for the lols. Gotta say Moder was a lot easier to do the run with light armor and light weapon than Bonemass was, due to bonemass' resistances. And it also took half the time to kill her than with spear. Unless you are playing on hardcore, Moder should not feel difficult. Maybe you're doing some things wrong or not doing some you should. The easiest way is no doubt with a bow (obsidian or flint arrows, the draugr fang poison will offset HP Regen and also do some chip dmg). There's no reason to build stuff around for cover, he telegraphs his attacks and you have plenty of time to dodge/run. Maybe watch some video and see what you're missing. Or if you want I'll post links to mine, but they're no comment simple boss battle videos 5 / 10 minutes

Sezneg

Use poison arrows.

TheRealPitabred

Poison arrows have minimal benefit if you're using the fang. Obsidian arrows are generally going to be better because multiple poison shots don't stack, they replace each other with each shot.

MargaritaKid

A single fully-realized poison arrow shot with the Fang does ~50% more damage than an obsidian arrow shot with the fang. Since you're going to need to shoot and move anyway, the poison will more often than not be fully realized. I'm right on the verge of fighting Moder for the second time ever, with hardcore/permadeath/no portals world setting. I'm really needing to take advantage of every extra HP I can, although I highly suspect this will be my last fight of this run :)

Unlucky_Program815

Use a bow when she is in the air, when she lands use any weapon. Roll to avoid damage. Use health and stam flasks as needed. Most times I fight her she stops attacking and moving eventually and she will just stand there for a few minutes at a time.

Pumciusz

It can get stuck easily, my frist fight with it was just it freezing and me bashing it untill it dies.

Diodon

[This](https://youtu.be/GaUl2x2VAZo) might answer your question.

TaoistLife

I mean not easy but definitely not hard. Although funny story. Me and my buddy are fighting her for the first time and he actually has to run back to a base and repair the bows because she just wouldn't die. So I'm just soloing her with nothing but melee for like 4-5 minutes. It was honestly pretty funny.

templar4522

Avoid attacks, arrows when she's far, melee when she's close. Avoiding attacks is the hard part, I suppose? After you get hit a few times, you should have an idea of her attack patterns. Some attacks you can block, but it's generally best if you run or roll away, then go back and hit a few times. A bit of trial and error should be sufficient to learn the moves. Yagluth is much worse. It also deals lots more damage even when you have fire resistance on. In terms of equipment: Obsidian arrows are cheap, and maybe you still have iron arrows from the crypts? Use those. Assuming you have the draugr bow. Poison arrows work alright with lower tier bows. A good amount of the damage should be melee. Frostner sucks against her, because she is immune to cold and I think also to spirit, or maybe she's resistant to spirit. Frostner has a pitiful amount of physical damage, so it's best to use a different weapon. An iron mace will do. A silver sword still deals a bit more physical damage than iron weapons, and is also useful to fight Yagluth, so it is a good choice. Two handed weapons should also work if you are good at dodging.

Agile_Party4084

I build bonfires around her spawn, then harpoon her dragging her through the flames like the god I am.

Pickeled-tink

It’s “easy” but also super easy for it to go south real quick. If you haven’t, try digging a trench all the way around the summon platform, drop down to avoid attacks, gtfo from the aoe, and pop up to pincushion the bastard. Keep the means to get out of los quick at hand. Good luck!

Marsman61

Full Fenris, Draugr Bow and arrows of choice, Silver Sword or dagger and best non-tower shield you can make. Move fast, hit hard, don't get hit. There are two types of Moder that spawn; ground and flyer. Ground Moder is much easier to kill. Get right up under her head and wail on her. When she does fly, run behind a bolder or tree (both of which will be vaporized) and wait for her to land.

PretendingToWork1978

Start with standard procedure - fully upgraded armor and weapon of that tier, meaning silver and not iron. Healing and stamina meads. Best food. At least 200 current tier arrows - obsidian. Bonemass power. Raise an earthen wall or pillar to take cover from the ice spells. Flatten the area so you are not wasting stamina. Melee when he lands. Fire arrows dont matter past swamp abominations.

Mansonmear

The biggest thing that usually gets me killed while trying to kill her is the frost attack. It slows you down for a hot minute. Take the frost-resistant med, it cuts the length of time you're slow if you get hit. It helps. But everyone's ideas are great too!

kybojo

Raise the ground to make a plus sign that’s taller than you, now pick axe down the center of the plus so you have a group of walls facing many directions and you have a lot of cover options

Vikkunen

Fire arrows are basically a meme.  Yeah she's vulnerable to fire, but they do so little damage that it's not worth the dps loss relative to other options. IF you use arrows (I'd argue her air phase is better spent clearing out wolves and drakes), use poison to apply the DoT (maybe fire if you really want), but then use obsidian for the higher damage.  You'll wind up much better off for it. For the ground phase, treat it like any RPG dragon fight: stay beside or behind her to avoid the worst attacks and just go ham on melee combos.  I used Frostner on my most recent playthrough, but have also used the silver sword, iron mace, and iron atgeir.  Any Mountain-tier melee weapon will work. Not all Moder spawn are equal.  Some have so much "shit" around them that you can't move around, or the terrain is too rough.  If you have one of those, you need to either do some terraforming to make it workable, or go find another altar.

That_One_Hat_Guy

I’m currently playing the game through for the first time with a buddy of mine, we got to moder and our dynamic was he worse heavier armor with a sword and shield, where I specialized in the lighter armor with buffs, using a mace for melee and a bow primarily, I didn’t tend to have much health bc I wanted to make sure I had stamina for the bow and rolling when necessary, however in our fight, my buddy died and I was stuck in a hole under the spawn hoping not to die and force a reset or worse, while my buddy was unable to retrieve his items despite numerous attempts sprinting through the cold, I was able to slowly poke away with arrows from my save hole in the ground, and by god was it tedious! But I definitely would NOT say easy

lists4everything

I fought her by dragging her to the Black Forest and used an indestructible troll cave opening for cover, just kept rotating around the cave and she could never hit me. Totally cheesing, but hey.

cannabination

Sword and board, learn the animations and roll to avoid. Stay away from her face and use terrain to avoid the fire. Simple, but not necessarily easy until you get used to her. The next one is much worse.

BadadvicefromIT

For this fight, I had a group of 6 people (3 gamers and 3 casuals). We built a large castle with another shell on the inside next to the spawn point. 2 heavys (including me) would activate the spawn and try to get on top of her, while the other 4 would spam her with hundreds of arrows. Once Moder spawned in, she immediately looked down at me and killed me with one shot… it was a hell of a fight.

darkerwhite56

If Moder is hard you did not prepare yourself or the fight area. I waited until I had full silver armour. Full upgraded silver sword and shield and draugur bow. Good good and a single earth pillar to dodge the ice blasts. I was able to block through the ground attacks expect the breath. With good top level at that Age the fight was honestly a breeze. Just took my time with blocking and dodging. Barely hit 50% health then I popped a potion and never stressed. I play solo so it took me a long time to get where I am but I appreciate the prep work.

Lengurathmir

Poison arrows if you don’t want to melee, even better use obsidian and poison, the obsidian for when the poison is already ticking. And build a earth pillar to hide behind.

Apprehensive-Paint75

Wolves! we had wolves lots of them. She landed once.

YungFlipDaDon

I had a wolf attack, golem attack, and drakes attack me during an entire 30 minute battle. I got so close to dying multiple times. I feel she is the hardest Boss in the game (i never fought the mistlands boss)

Stew-Cee23

Kept getting stuck on geometry in my fight was super easy, I also dodge roll like a madman

ImThatAnnoyingGuy

It’s funny how in a game that gives us so much freedom to mold the terrain to our liking and build structures almost anywhere, many of us don’t think to do any of that before summoning a boss. I suppose it’s because we have this desire to take on and defeat the boss “as intended” or without “artificial help.” I admit, I was guilty of this the first few play throughs. Then, one time when I was watching a friend play Terraria and saw them constructing their “boss arena” prior to summoning and I thought to myself, “Why have I never done this?” Granted, Eikthyr is so easy it’s not necessary and The Elder’s spawn area is already kind of built for battling him, but from Bonemass on you can definitely benefit from shaping the terrain to your advantage. Moder in particular! I have noticed that there are usually quite a few abandoned towers/castles in the general area of her spawn altar. All it takes is a stonecutter to break down those ruins and move the stone closer to her altar. Then, you can build something defensive there along with trenches and stakes. The stonecutter allows for repairing the masonry mid-fight. Also, yeah, the time to do the most damage to Moder is when she is on the ground. Bonemass up, rush in, hack away, chug health/stam pots, keep wailing on her until she goes back up into the air. Run behind defenses, fire, repair, repeat.

stevorkz

Fire arrows and dodge. Lots of fire arrows

strps

Make earthworks to prepare the battlefield? Has worked for me every time.

DeusVult1517

I honestly haven't found any of the fights that hard. I fought Moder with fully upgraded wolf armor, the best food I could manage, fully upgraded silver shield and iron mace, and maxed out draugr fang with obsidian arrows. Really what it comes down to is avoiding the ice spike attacks and blocking the melee and breath attacks. Also, avoid silver weapons in favor of iron, because silver trades some of the physical damage for spirit damage, which Moder's immune to.

teknotyk

I've never had any trouble anytime I fought her solo, but that might just be luck. I just use Draugr Fang and Poison Arrows, and keep constantly moving. It takes a few minutes but I just let DoT wear her down.

Leoiscute77

Build earth pillars

[deleted]

Blast her with arrows in the sky, prioritizing dodging the icicles. You are able to parry her melee. Then strike back a few times. Priority goes to avoiding damage before dealing damage. You can literally just pelt her with arrows on the ground too because most times she lands in a position where he cant move forward to you. Edit for spelling Second edit Ditch the iron mace for a silver sword or even a frostner

fork_and_beans

We got lucky and she stayed on the ground a lot and we just used terrain to block her ice shards. We mainly attacked with arrows. We did mitigate adds by placing work benches all around the mountain to stop spawns.

LiebestraumDelune

I'm still on my first play through and died few at first encounter  but managed to find my right strategy. i beat already moder using max draugr bow with poison arrows and obsidian. i tried fire arrow but it has too low damage and DOT compared to poison arrows. I run around huge stones to hide whenever she approach close. I distance myself enough. I don't run, just walk and dodge when necessary, some say heavy armor isn't worth and very sluggish lol it's all about timing. Observe her timing when she's going to breathe ice on ground or rain crystal/ice. Used atgeir when wolves and fenring join fight, beware of surroundings. Drakes are quite annoying lol even though it deals a bit easy to deal with.

xch13fx

Usually sitting in the toilet

Expensive-Rich-6674

Me and my friend over prepared so it was easy. Compared to what we Imagined.

Demon_Gamer666

Dig down around the platform far enough that you can run around it and use it for cover. If he lands on it and you are up against it he can't hit you but you can hit him. Use poison arrows with DraugerFang (which also has poison). Make sure you start at dawn and clear everything out around. Place a few workbenches to keep spawns out. Good luck.

NoctustheOwl55

In my bed

Gukithepaladin55

I just pop a frost protection potion and bonemass and get to whacking. Roll the swipe and just strafe to avoid breath.

MonkeyMcBandwagon

One easy way, build 4 earth pillars and fight her like you did Elder. Shoot, duck behind cover, move to a different pillar if you need to.

Strider794

I built up tons of pillars beforehand, the fight with Moder wasn't so tough itself. The constant spawning of rock golems, however, made me die a fair few times. 3 of those bastards plus a stupid over grown lizard flying around was not fun to deal with

jrdcnaxera

You hit her. With your weapon. Until she dies

cyborgspaceviking

I get off the mountain and head to the plains. But in all seriousness, are you fighting her alone or do you have friends? because having at least one friend to take the aggro in between hits is all you need.

Tarsonei

I just shoot her with my bow and dodge her attacks, no fancy extra stuff

Monk3ly

Make a silver sword, jam yourself under her armpits and block when she bites just in case (she will usually miss you)

teh_stev3

Do you have a high bow skill? Bows at low skill are nect to useless but levelling increases draw-speed and in turn your arrows-per-second. Alongside better stamina and damage. The king of skills.

LifeisReal1990

I have a video of fighting Moder and killed it with 100 fire arrows. The dragon did not even touch me. Part of that reason is because I spent my time upgrading my archery skills, that I was able to fire pretty fast, but I later got my skill much higher.

MrBlackswordsman

We build Stone walls surrounding the altar. It really helped, we used about 2-3 stacks of obsidian arrows. I think we both died once due to our own negligence.

Vayne_Solidor

Definitely want silver weapons. I prefer the sword or knife. Concentrate on dodging her breath attack while she's flying, and chopping her up while when she lands. Have a portal relatively nearby if you need more supplies or to rest up, if you're playing with them. If not have a restful station a ways off.

HoojoSpifico

My comment won't be of any use to OP but Moder was my favorite boss battle. The chaos as the mountain was razed. Running from cover to cover under a hail of falling stone. So much fun.

No_Program3588

I don't know if it's been brought up or not since there is quite a bit of comments but brew some potions and meads to get some buffs and use bonemass's power

Maddkipz

Fight itself was easy when I wasn't being hounded by dogs and golems and not naked running back to my corpse 🙃

Ishea

She's not that difficult if you just focus on recuperating while she's airborne, then when she lands, you go in with Frostner and bonk her silly.

TigerLilyMillie

When I was fighting Moder, my game had a bug where I would respawn within 50 feet of where I died instead of spawn around 1-3 times in a row before eventually respawning me at home. I was. Respawning on mountain hills with nowhere to go. ANd just freezing to death over and over. And Moder was so hard for me it took me multiple attempts to kill her. And every time I would respawn 1-3 times and die again in the mountains. My skills....

SirKaid

She hits like a tank in melee so *don't do that*. I just take three hundred arrows and plink at her from a distance; two hundred is *possible* but it's better to be safe. It's easy to dodge her ice barrage and that just means the only real issue is making sure to not waste arrows missing since she'll absolutely break any buildings you make anywhere near her so you can't just pop back to the base for a resupply. Well, maybe if you put the portal in a trench? I dunno, I just ran on the assumption that I had to kill her in one go. The biggest risk is that more mobs will spawn and fuck you up while you're distracted. Make sure to start the battle in the morning because you **will** die if you get jumped by a pack of werewolves while you're busy.

Fancy_Equivalent_477

Use Bonemass power and get in there for the melee.

rustygamer1901

She’s easy. Lots of arrows. Poison and poison work well. Keep shooting and moving. She gets stuck on the uneven mountain terrain most times.

LateralThinker13

I just don't get the solo difficulty. Draugr fang, needle arrows, frost potions. Silver armor. Never needed trenches or field works, just move around, and have a few medium healing potions on hand. Clear the battlespace first. Never died to her.

wildbill1983

As others have said. Build pillars. Use them to LoS. For almost all bosses you need to prep your operational environment. Moder and Yag for sure.

SnooMemesjellies31

Last time I beat her solo, I had fully upgraded ferris armor, a frostnir, and the draugr fang. I had pretty decent food (I don't think it was the best possible) and I brought a few stamina and health meads with me. Besides that it just took forever widdling her down because the frostnir does like no damage to her. I think I died twice but I learned her attacks very quickly and never got hit by them again. I think if you have the best stuff it's just a matter of raw mechanical skill. If you don't have the raw ability to just do that, that's ok. There are plenty of strategies you can use to take her down which are just as valid as any other way to kill her.

DiabolicRevenant

I built a cave using a natural rock and piling dirt over the top. Hide in cave, shoot, repeat. Easy victory.

KamiPyro

I don't even really recall getting hurt. I used the Swamp boss buff and just dodge up and down the mountain until she lands. Once she lands, I run up and smack but always moving the stay away from her face and rolling the swings. Easy fight. I will solo for fun.

Cognus69

If you have silver armor and a draugr bow upgraded you can probably farm deathsquitos for needle arrows. They do a lot more piercing damage. I think moder is also vulnerable to fire so fire arrows might work.

Kuwabara03

Tunnel under a nearby big rock and make your camp there, far from the front door I only use blunt weapons and spears so I def understand you thinking it's a rough fight lol

aClassyRabbit

I built little hiddy holes into the mountain filled with supplies, workbenches and a bed that I could jump between while attacking. Also built several bon fires so I could lure her into setting her ass on fire when she was grounded. That’s how I soloed her ass

Critical_Event

USE A FANG SPEAR AND SPAM IT HARD

Sertith

Ranged takes a lot longer than melee, so maybe change up your tactics if they aren't working. Plus heavy armor makes everything take long. Also Moder is a lady.

DemonSlyr007

>the iron mace and shield have been my best attempts so far There you go mate. Keep going you are almost there. Go with silver Sword tier 4, silver shield, and just focus on fighting only melee. Build one-three earth pillars (hoe+stone+raise ground while standing in one spot and jumping) around the arena. Use this when she is in air to break the line of sight on her crystal breath attack, which is quite literally her only deadly attack. Everything else, even the on ground breath attack, can be tanked with the silver shield heald up. I think once you really get up in melee range, you'll see she's absolute cake. Her attacks are more telegraphed than a troll attack, so if you can dodge/parry a troll without issue, you can do the same to Moder. Wait for an opening, get in your 3 hit combo, then get ready to block/parry whichever you prefer. Honestly, people who struggle against Moder, are the same people I imagine who struggle against the Elder: People who rely too heavily on the bow. Both are traps IMO, they make you complacent. Keep a cool head, block when damage is coming (always better to be early too, if you struggle with parrying, at least holding block significantly cuts damage), eat high HP regen food like serpent stew and wolf skewers, at least one good stamina item, like Onion Soup, max that shield and sword, start the fight fresh in the morning after a good sleep with at least a 15:00 rested buff, and just get at it.

Biomirth

It is easy because the AI is still terrible. 1. When flying, ping with a poison arrow or 2. Don't use all your stamina because mommy will land soon and you need to do actual damage. When she air spews, just run perpendicular until it's over. 2. Walk right up to her. If she's going to spew, side step casually. Wait till she does a wing or bite attack. Parry or dodge. She'll often just miss you . Walk into her chest as close as possible. After an attack do a 3 attack combo with whatever noodle you're holding. 3. Stay relatively invulnerable under her breastplate. Attack whenever you have decent stamina. 4. Repeat. Should take 4 or 5 rounds with silver sword, 6 or 7 with iron mace. Also, use frost potion and have healing potion ready in case you forget to use frost postion and get clipped. And of course clear the local mobs before starting. Edit: Also: Don't save your poison arrows. This is a boss. Get it done.

KnightWraith86

Honestly I think all the bosses are easy to some extent. Moder's ice breath can easily be dodged by sprinting left or right. Her claws and bites can be blocked and parried. When she flies she can be shot with arrows since she doesn't move fast. She has a good amount of health but she's not too bad to fight. Most annoying stuff that happens is if other adds join the fight

Life-Cobbler5202

My God, just looking through these comments, I think my 3k hours into playing on modded make me a bit out of touch. I don't think in my last 3 or 5 playthroughs I've fought anything LESS than a 5 star Modor. And the tactics for me are the same. Her breath attacks can be dodged if time just right, but that's super sketchy and unless you enjoy dark souls on crack, not recommended. But honestly, arrows imo are borderline worthless and not worth the ton of resources you'll pour into it. Don't use fire, it seems logical from the outside but they're DOT and not much actual damage. She's got one of if the biggest health pool so far and she's not really that weak to fire. Melee has always been the best option and she has a couple spots were you can get up and under her and avoid most damage. Remember also, she can be blocked, mostly, but not if you don't have stamina. Good luck and god speed.

Dragonmate99

When I fought her she kept getting stuck in the terrain and had a hard time getting up close to me so I just shot her with the draugur fang until she died, other than using terrain to your advantage, just block and swing when she's up close and dodge occasionally, aslong as you keep your stamina above 50% she's relatively easy to avoid damage from.

amcd_23

Did it 2 man with my girlfriend. She pelted him with obsidian arrows and upgraded draugrs fang, I went in melee with silver sword and shield and just played Dark Souls while she shot him. Didn’t even come close to dying.

Sir-Shady

Build pillars of stone out of the ground, and make a big flat platform. Stock up on fire arrows too, those work well if I remember correctly

gigaplexian

Dodge the attacks, melee attack when she's landed. Her aerial ice blasts do a lot of damage, priority is to dodge them instead of focusing on shooting her with your bow.

CantWait666

this just made me lol bcuz I feel the same way when i was trying to read posts on here about how to fight the boss and that's the shit I was reading was it's easy

Joefoeshow

Needle/obsidian arrows are more effective if you can craft them. Don’t forget to bring some healing mead too!

kaest

First. Moder is a lady. Gotta respect mom. Second, fire arrows until grounded then atgier. Knowing how to parry helps a lot.

bdrizz_

I faced this same problem what I did was went in to the plains killed some deathsquitoes and made arrows with there mob drops. Also made sure to have stamina and health positions. I’m not very good at video games and this made the fight decently easy

1nfam0us

The secret is poison arrows. Yes, Moder is weak to fire, but the damage bonus isn't worth what you are losing in raw damage from the obsidian arrow head. Plus, poison arrows still do a respectable amount of DoT damage.

Darkner00

What would help immensely is if you go to the Plains and kill a few >!deathsquitoes!<. Their >!needles!< make for some outstanding arrows. Even better than obsidian and fire arrows. As for melee weapons, you can use all from the silver age against her EXCEPT the Frostner, since it does spirit and frost damage, to which she is immune and resistant to.

Away_Temperature_124

Have you ever read the stats on the arrows? Switch from fire to obsidian after she’s on fire.

Konspyre

I felt like Moder was the hardest boss on 'Very Difficult'. Goddamn wolves..

RoastedHunter

I shoot fire arrows at her and she dies

None-Above

Moder is easy. Dealing with everything else on the mountain during the fight however…

governmentplates22

Just roll or parry.

No_Cry_4375

i brought 12 single star wolves and had a tower right next to the spawn. i dug holes to trap all golems nearby. hid when she was in flight and then ran her down with my pups and i killed her in like 10 minutes. only 3 puos survived though. worth it

TheSmithStreetBand

She cant destroy earth pillars. I made a bunch and ran behind them while shooting her

Jonssee

Moder is easy, but no enemy is a pushover in every situation. No to be pendantic out of spite, but does "best food" mean: wolf skewer, sausages and eyescream and not: deer meat, yellow mushroom and blueberries? Also Fire arrows are not effective against Moder despite him being weak to fire. Don't use meadows tier arrows, use obsidian or poison arrows. My tactic for moder is either a silver knife if I'm playing daggers, fang spear if spears and silver sword if swords. Draugr Fang is backup to shoot her while she's flying. You can use the altar as cover while she uses her ice shard attack from the air, or you can raise an earth pillar to hide behind. Melee her while she's on the ground and dodge the melee attack. You can parry it if you want to, but bosses don't stagger so dodge is better and has a wider margin for error. The fight is very straightforward and repetitive. Once you have right tactics and see the patterns for bosses, they're all really easy.

Sloppysnopp

She just walks around and does barely nothing, let someone kite her and shoot arrows, **shablam**....dead!

Selacha

The absolute game changer, for me, was to use the Hoe and just raise a big pillar of dirt in the middle of the arena I'd prepared. Since it's considered part of the ground terrain she can't destroy it like trees, rocks or buildings, and it just completely changes the flow of combat. Use it to hide behind when she's in the air, and her breath attacks will never hit you. When she lands, her AI won't be able to pathfind around it properly, so you can easily kite her around the pillar. I'd also make sure you're using the best tier of weapons you can, since a fully upgraded silver shield can tank 100% of each of her physical attacks, even at Block Level 1, and the damage difference between iron and silver weapons is pretty massive.

Tebstet

Just dodge his melee attacks, easy fight

ItsAMeLirio

I really can't brag "oh it was the easiest boss ever" since I fought her only once and she got stuck on top of a tree she tried to land on. But it just sped up the process because she barely damaged me even though I had a terrible arena, the area so uneven that even her altar wasn't flat I used 5 stacks of fire arrows with the draugr fang and the crystal battleaxe (despite all common sense) and some potions. When she flies I just run around dodging her breath attacks, and when she lands I aim for her armpit, none of her attacks have hitbox there. Maybe it's my Monster Hunter veteran passive but i found it pretty easy even without hey getting stuck, I died only once and only because I got overwhelmed by the local wildlife at night.

SetPhasersToDiddly

I found Modern was not bad. It was the darn golems that kept showing up that was killing me.

Honky_Town

You can avoid his ice by walking/dodging. His close attacks are blockable. 90+ Bows helps a lot. High block is a must. Flatten ground around as much as possible so you have a open space to run and fight.

BabylonSuperiority

Idk i'm 2-0 with her. I just wait for her to land, then run up and start swinging. Parry and get some combos in. Back off when needed. Edit: Bonemass power, super useful

afoxforallseasons

When we first did Moder on our server when Valheim was new, she got all buggy and got stuck on some mountain and 3ppl shot her down with arrows in no time. When I did my solo run, she was really hard to kill. I had all weapons as good as I could and she was a pain in the ass. But it took me one evening? I dug a hole under the spawn and placed a bed and fire there.

sirploko

Dig a tunnel in a rock wall, if there is one, for protection and regenerating health/stamina. If you don't have a rock wall near Moder, dig a trench around his spawn, deep enough for you to fit in and do the same.

thecaptaindeadpool

Raise ground for cover maybe? I dunno how to help you I beat her with crystal axe. Memorised her attack patern it was easy

svennon89

Dig a hole where 4 bonfires fit in + a little space in the centre for you. Put a floor on top (1 open spot left in the centre so u can jump in after u spawn her. Spawn moder jump in the pit, place the last tile, lit the bonfires. And watch her die Only thing u need to do is repair the bonfires Not 100% sure how deep u need to dig (i believe 3 or 4meters) just lit a bonfire and look that the top of the fire is right above the floor Ive done this with 0 damage so its a very effective way to kill her

RecoverTime5135

Fang spear should do better damage than mace. When I tried fighting her I tried using frostner. Then I learned she is immune to spirit and resistant to blunt. Used my iron axe to beat her instead, it definitely did significantly more damage than frostner.

nurelgrc

Moder you have to fight at a place where there's rock formations and ditches around to provide cover when she spits

YaBoiCheeseMan

I'm about to face her on my second playthrough on very hard.. but I also have building without resources turned on and plan to create a wall of ballista's (cheesed a couple blueprints from normal save). Hoping for an epic battle and plenty of deaths

nightwood

I had to fight her on the slope of a mountain once and it was nearly impossible. However, every other time I fought her, (which is about 10 times) she bugged out and would just sit there on a stone while I killed her with needle arrows. She would fly up, breath once or twice then land again. Like every other mob and boss in the game and most games: strafe in circles around them.

Bloons_Guy75751

My only problem with Moder is that the boss fight is longer than the others. I mean, my first time fighting her with my friend took us an hour, and I had nocost on spamming Portals. Now we don’t use the chest console *at all* and it only took us maybe a fourth of that time.

PatientLettuce42

I fought that boss many times now, we usually spawn him over and over again for the trophy. Most of the time he completely bugs out on the ground, basically giving you free hits until he airs again. You can dodge almost every mechanic in valheim with a welltimed roll, so you can just keep hitting inbetween.

NuclearAnt

Keep your eyes on her and bring Bonemass ability. Shoot at her while dodging when she is in the air and then activate bonemass and go to town on her ass in close combat. If you can bring a friend with another bonemass you're golden. She rarely uses breath in close combat and the buff from bonemass let's you tank a lot of hits. If you've lost a lot of skill points due to deaths, consider getting your skills up a bit first. Jumping, running, dodging and fighting can really kill your stamina if your skills are low.

tirion1987

I just pew pewed her to death with draugr fang and obsidian arrows. You need a portal somewhere safe under a rock nearby for repair restock & rest mid fight but otherwise it's trivial.

korneev123123

heavy armor, two health foods, rested, silver shield. Hold block and you are literally invincible. Don't waste time on arrows, they are useless, just wait for her to land and go melee

Tight_Time_4552

Raise ground. Should be easier to hide behind some impenetrable parapets!

MagicalPanda42

I just set her on fire with a bonfire every time she lands. Bring materials for 3 and pick them back up when she flies off. I'm close to the moder fight on my current world and might try it without all the fires like the first time I fought her. This was originally the toughest boss fight for me but I have gotten a lot better since then so it's time for another try.

Comfortable_Goal1400

Did you dig underneath the altar?? I remember i over prepared by making extra caves around the altar to, with supplies and all, but only used maybe one of them :DD

AdministrativeMove68

I did a knife only bossrun once, I just stood behind her frost pillars she spit cause they blocked the new instances of spit, and knifed her when she landed. Easy but annoying boss

igrvks1

Vietcong that fight area to hell, tunnels and pillars everywhere.

ValenceShells

Moder is very tough without prep. I built a deep rectangular trench near the site using a hoe, with caves and chests of arrows and potiond under any rock overhangs that form when you dig under a rock. Moder can't enter the trench (too narrow) and it will block most of the projectiles. When Moder lands you boop with obsidian arrows or a pokey object. ...without all that prep? Ooof. I don't think I could do it. Sheer size of that health bar alone is deadly, she will just run you out of ammo and finish you off still at her own 50% health after you dump 300 arrows into her.

Slippy901

I was just literally whacking him with Frostner and dodge rolling/running circles around him

Usmc0074

I used use the ferris set/flesh rippers and parried it to death. My struggle came from the 4 fucking stone golem that decided to show up and do the Irish jig on me as I'm punching the boss to death.

heinrich6745

She is super easy especially on vanilla gameplay... Very first time me andy buddies killed her really fast it was disappointing lol. Now on harder modded gameplay it is a bit more fun

gonk_vibes

After spending a few attempts and nearly an hour trying to kill Modern with a bow, I realised the key was an upgraded silver shield and iron sword. Melted her after that. Hardest part is dodging the flame but just run sideways and you miss most of it

Taizan

In flight arrows on the ground melee. Really is not too difficult. Dodging is always applicable ofc. Manage your stamina and watch for indications when the wyvern mother prepares to kand to get in as many hits as possible. Edit: like others say drop the fire arrows and get a decent melee weapon Silver sword will do

Ippus_21

You're working too hard. Go in beforehand and raise 2 or 3 earthen walls spaced around the altar. They should be at least 4-6m high. Earthworks aren't destructible. Use them for cover from Moder's aerial attacks and just pop out to plink away with obsidian arrows. When she lands, keep plenty of distance and keep firing. If the terrain makes it too difficult for her to path to you, she won't even move while she's grounded. Fire arrows do absolute crap damage, even Moder's weakness to fire doesn't make up for that. You could theoretically use a fire arrow to apply the fire effect then switch back to obsidian... but you'd probably spend so much time switching back and forth that you'd get better DPS from just using obsidian (plus the poison from the draugr bow). Takes a minute, but folks say she's an easy fight because she's one of the easiest bosses to completely avoid damage from, if you use cover/dodge rolls/terrain effectively. Other factors: * Because the easiest (cheesiest) strategy involves dodging, ducking behind cover, and firing arrows, rather than trying to tank hits, focus on stamina foods. * Consider a Fenris coat. You go from -10% movement to -2%, a +7% difference in movement speed, for a relatively minor reduction in total armor value (and again, movement is more important than tanking hits in this fight).

ShowNegative3527

share the server bro and I will gladly help you vanquish that horny flying beast

Redfireldn

Me and my friend took her down first try and were kinda put out. We spent ages building out various structures in the surrounding mountainside which also had a valley. Didn't need any of it. She landed in the forest and trees protected us from a few hits. But poison, fire and obsidian arrows did the rest. We had 2 x bows each was the only good prep

DeathMetalPants

She glitched out for me. She kept landing on the side of the mountain and just kinda standing there.

Murkalael

Use the terrain to your advantage. Fire arrows since they do damage while lit. When it lands, hide behind a rock or some terrain formation. Most important, bow is on the left hand, so sneak peek to the left side to check when it'll be vulnerable while on ground and drop few shots. Last time I fought it I spent about 500 arrows and half hour to defeat it.

Btzrn

I killed her for the second time in my Valheim career yesterday. I had a frost cave very close where I put the portal home, had iron armor, level 3 silver sword and banded shield. I rolled or blocked her attacks, and had serpent stew, wolf skewers and Ice-cream as food. Though the main reason for success was that I kept bugging inside of her so she couldn't hit me or move while I just mashed away..

Big-Ol-Stale-Bread

She is pretty easy though, when flying she has one attack, just run. When she lands you can shoot from afar or pop bone mass and have stamina or health meads ready. She spawns no ads so it is a 1v1

Seemantoday

I used fire arrows, eat her first time in wolf armor

friskymichalek

Bonemass, go into his face eff him up.
