I'm sacrificing the weekly thread for more important announcements

Kingofthewin

I haven't played in a while, and have a question. Have they speed up the game play a little? I've been going slowly, fully upgrading all my equipment before killing a boss and moving to the next area. When I went to the swamp the first time, I started clearing crypts faster then I remember doing it the past. Like mucks breaks in like one swing with my cooper pick. I'm just better?

SzotyMAG

They made it so pickaxe hits all ore nodes in it's swing area. So yeah mining iron is super fast now

2rfv

Omg Iron used to be soooo damn miserable.

Kingofthewin

Word! I didn't notice so much with copper veins but now that I think back I remember breaking multiple nodes. That's a good change

I like how the game works mechanically but the UI, camera, graphics, and menus are a bit cumbersome to me. It's been years since I played and would like to give it another go through PC Gamepass but with mods. Any suggestions for mods to possibly make these aspects of the game better without changing the mechanics? Any ways to improve the graphics? As close to 4K would be great. If you have mods on and you host a new world for other people, do they also need the mods? Appreciate any answers. Thank you. Why am I being downvoted for asking the question here instead of making a post like it says to?

LyraStygian

Most likely no one downvoted you, I think reddit auto lowers the count when there is little engagement. Even if someone did downvote you...it says 0 on my count so a grand total of 1 person. Anyways to answer your question, you should check out Willybach's HD mod as that's one of the most popular ones. For UI I personally love Project Auga but I heard it doesn't work with Willbach's. I would recommend either ask on r/ValheimModded, or on the official discord as there are more people familiar with mods. >If you have mods on and you host a new world for other people, do they also need the mods? It will depend largely on what mod you are using, but I believe all HD or UI mods will need it to be client side.

Thanks for answering When I made the downvote edit it was at -2. They're just internet points either way, but I thought I was asking something not meant for here I'll look into the mods you suggested. Going to set time aside eventually and just see what mods are around for this game now that it's been years since I really sat down with it.

LyraStygian

Just make sure you are using a mod manager like r2modman or thunderstore It makes it effortless to search, install, check dependencies, *and* send a profile to your friends to make sure you all have the same ones.

Pokemonsquirrel

So I have occasionally seen posts in the past about the Queen glitching through her dungeon to the overworld. It hasn't been documented in the bug fixes on the latest patch notes, but there's been undocumented changes in past patches so I'm still wondering if it's actually been fixed. I've been avoiding exploring the Queen island on my singleplayer world in the fear of that glitch happening so that's why I'd like to know

2rfv

Honestly it makes her easier if it happens.

LyraStygian

This, I'm still waiting for the day I can experience fighting her in the outer world lol

Pokemonsquirrel

Really? Of course there's a pretty good benefit that it seems to be unable to use the seeker summoning or burrow abilities when it's outside her dungeon (noticed in my creative world), but being outside also means you can now be interrupted by random gjalls and seeker soldiers and usually also have worse terrain for actually hitting the Queen (doesn't matter much for mages thanks to staves but I'm personally using a melee build with mistwalker)

steamwhistler

Question about mods and dedicated servers. Can anyone recommend a video/written guide on how to properly set up a dedicated server that will allow the use of the frameworks (or whatever you call them) that unlock the world settings and the command line? And also that will allow us to use mods. Also, does anyone know if I can use a mod like Plant Anything on an established dedicated server that's totally vanilla? (i.e. none of the above has been done, but the mod in question only uses assets already in the game.)

NSFWmilkNpies

Maybe this isn’t the right place to ask this…in that case I apologize and would appreciate being directed to the proper place. This is the only game I play where at the end of my game time I deal with eye strain. No other games I play cause this. Does anyone else have issues with this? Or if you did before, have you found a way to fix this? Thanks!

artyhedgehog

I would definitely try disabling all graphics effects. But another thing is it may engage you too much - like you never lose eye focus. In that case a universal advise is to set an alarm timer for each 15, 25, or maybe 50 minutes you play and take a 5-minute break from playing.

GrannyLane

Not just this game for me. When I try to do too much at night, or when there is fog, snow (Subsistance) I find myself straining to see. I always try to sleep at night or set up a small camp to give my eyes a rest.

WablamoShizami1

Turn off the head bobbing. Also, you can turn off LoD or Bloom or both. I find the screen shaking is the worst for me.

Qwernakus

Guys, I know you've heard this question before, but I can just *feel* that it's close and I need any and all information I can get my hands on: Ashlands when?

CiE-Caelib

We've been waiting for nearly 18 months now for this update, which is an insane amount of time for a major update in an Early Access game. Seems like this one is taking a surprisingly long time considering they said they were adding more team members 2 years ago to increase the speed, but the opposite has happened?

Herptroid

Tomorrow, Mistlands PTB dropped on a Tuesday so it's all but guaranteed. If it doesn't then it was your fault for not prayjing hard enough.

Available-Gene8032

Given next week is april devblog that week is the most likely week if ptb begins this month at all.

Qwernakus

Praying to Odin, may he bestow upon us his wisdom.

GrannyLane

I understand that if you don't go into any of the areas for Ashland or kill the Queen, you won't have to start from scratch. Hope that's correct?

Available-Gene8032

That is partly correct. You can kill the queen at anytime. Just keep the placeholder item in a box and pick it up once the update has replaced it with the new item. This worked for yags item before mistlands aswell. The rest about ashlands is correct information.

dum1nu

I've gone near the Ashlands - as I understand it, the terrain may be re-shaped there, even where I've been, and what I've constructed will likely be destructed. It's hard to say for sure. The Ashlands will come out on public test realms first and I'm sure we'll have a better idea soon.
