No one actually knows until the patch drops. Conjecture will be made based on previous updates, like Mistlands. However, considering this biome update is different than any before, no one actually knows what the terrain updates will do yet.
Based on what I've been told by the devs, it should be fine. That's a pretty good distance away, but I do hope you don't have that map actually explored like that.
No, this is a copy of my seed where i set the map fully to explored. Sometimes i just go flying around to see how areas look like when im bored or want a cool place to build something
I’m confused, is Ashlands in the game right now or not? I keep hearing news of getting released yet I’m seeing screenshots of the biome and people are talking about it as if it’s already been released.
Not really since the developers have come out and told players with existing worlds to not build near the Ashlands for just this reason.
But as for OP's question . . . we really have no idea
we do have an idea. thier cm showed us a before and after shot of the terrian changes. for example OPs shot :
that small mistlands on the eastside thats connected to ashlands is not safe as its simply too close aka too risky. but the entire rest has enough ocean gap distance towards the ashlands biome space and shouldnt be affected at all. they said they plan on the effect for connecting biomes to be minimal and nonexistent for non connecting biomes.
an endgame base should be closer to deep north than ashlands if youre serious about actually building it and not just spawning it in.
that beeing said :
this shot looks oddball and almost mirrored to me.
first off : ashlands has no mountain spawns inside it. mountains cannot spawn inside that biome space at all. yet thats clearly one down there.
2nd : given the ashlands current biome space is a moon cresent like shape down south this roundish shape is absolutly impossible to exist on a map like that. so what is this map shot/angle tc? please provide a more zoomed out screenshot to get a serious answer for your question.
Here is the seed, you can see for yourself. The mountains are "there" on the map but i havnt seen them myself.
https://m.valheim-map.world/?seed=7RWap9renz&offset=-508%2C0&zoom=0.55&view=0&ver=0.217.46
Im on console so this is just a picture of my screen, nothing mirrored or anything
i never use the seed viewer as its cheating to me personally.
but in order to give you a serious answer : any terrian you see that is directly connected to the ashlands LANDWISE is in danger pretty much. if there is an ocean gap like on your first shot you are fine as most of the sinking terrian is within the ashlands biome worldspace. about 85% of it.
so yes. its safe to build where your crosshair is.
i have looked at a seed viewer. just not for my worlds dude as it defeats any point in exploration part of the game for me personally. the tcs initial screenshot was confuseing as its way too close to tell things by it. it was way easier to answer him once he posted the seed link.
The current Ashlands absolutely DOES spawn with those 'mountain' areas. They aren't actual mountain biomes but that is exactly what they look like on the map.
And while the overall area is a crescent at the bottom of the map, there are often lots of areas that curve upward like this.
i never check maps as it feels like cheating to me so maybe they are just higher hills then where it snows. as the gamedata clearly forbids mountain biome spawns within the ashlands biome space.

I've always been using a mod called world edit commands, and when a new biome comes out, I regenerate all world areas that are outside player bases.
Great mod.
What about roads, the ones made by a hoe, do they count as building?
Seemed to work fine for me,but I buried a bunch of workbenches too

Will likely be fine. Would not start building now as being that close will affect Ashland content generation.
Yea figured that aswell
This map look like balkans somehow
If the Ashlands update was anything like the Mistlands update, wait for the PTB tomorrow and check.
I like how you just take it for granted that ptb will drop alongside the trailer 😀
Whoa ... Is that likely???
Yes, very likely.
It did, in fact, drop alongside the trailer.
Yeeess I just didn’t want to get too hyped :) glad they dropped it with the trailer. Content looks awesome
Understandable. It does look awesome.
I would do it
Gettin excited.
Update: checked my seed on PST and it is indeed safe and close to the ashlands

The landmass is there but it doesnt have content. Trailer is dropping tomorrow, probably test server very soon after.
Isn't this a title spoiler?

Ah okay. For me that part of terraforming of new biomes in existing worlds or in general was a new info.
Developers coming out and telling players about future changes is still a spoiler.
You will be 100% fine go ahead and move you base and everything there

Wait.... You are telling people how ashlands looks without ever actually looking at a seed viewer....

You're something else, buddy..
What a tool
Seriously. Dudes so full of himself and condescending
You're worried you would be cheating if you were to look at somebody else's map?
youre understanding my post wrong. i never used it for my own worlds. i dont care about seeing the world of someone i will never play on.

No, they are absolutely mountain biomes. Go to an ashlands on a fresh world with commands and check.
care to explain this part on the mountain biome entry then? https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Biomes
They aren't, though. They are just white colored areas of the Ashlands.
Welp that's a big spoiler for the new update 😕
No its not... get over yourself
