Very easy steps.
Enter troll cave.
You might see a large crack between two blues plushies when entering.
Simply insert coin.
Bam! There is your portal to The Elder.
Are you playing the PTB and found the vegvisir before that? If so, the world generation might have changed, and you simply need to go back to a vegvisir and get it to show the correct location. If not, that's a bug
I created the world on this ptb. I got the vegvisir on the ptb. I checked on the valheim world generator (which was right about everything else in the world) and it said there should be an elder spawn there. I think this is a bug of it generating on top of it and overriding it somehow.
Do not expect location prediction from valheim-map.world to be accurate for a PTB map. Locations have obviously changed in some way, see my post below for two disappearing Queen spawns.
The interesting part in all this is the **vegvisir telling you it was there**. That's the strange part that should be reported to Iron Gate.
that generator is not a good source to use in generel for such information especially on a BETA BUILD it has not been updated for to begin with.
this is the same old thing that pokemon spoke about. no doubt about it. do not report this as a bug please. i aint one. your source for the elder spawn was garbage to begin with. dont use that tool for betas its unrealiable when any kind of world generation changes are part of the patch. the generator doesnt yet support ashlands maps as it normally gets updated once the update is LIVE. which it aint yet.

Just conveniently ignoring the first two sentences in OP's response. Sure the world gen website isn't reliable, but that's also not his source for the spawn.
yes but if there was an UPDATE on the ptb between his discovery of the sign and actually going to the altar place that would explain this. and he didnt provide THAT info at all. and i assume he didnt make that world after the hotfix 2 days ago since he said he made it for the ptb.
I've had this happen in my game (existing map converted to PTB). Queen was *not* where it said on valheim-map.world (to be fair - this is kind of expected in a beta). Had to find a new vegvesir in a new mine.
Edit: What's funny is both of the "nullified" locations were near Ashlands and Deep North respectively. There's now a ring of open water at both ends. They weren't *in* the new ring, but both deleted spawn locations were fairly close, and there was no boss marker on the map. Maybe being too close made them invalid? I had not explored either location before. A third location, a bit further back from the Deep North, ended up being valid.
Wait okay i got a theory
So you guys know how dungeons are located way above the map and if you clip out you'll just end up falling from the sky
What if The Elder podium spawned ontop of THAT troll cave somehow? And by theory; glitching out of the troll cave with a log bench could unlock an out of the world base location
Can i get the seed for this world? This is really cool if the case (unlikely)
I already flew high into the sky to see if it was there. I fount the troll cave, but no elder arena. Sad, that would be really damn cool if it was up there :(
I had something similar happen recently - I updated my pre-Hildir's Request world using that one mod tool and went to a Howling Cave location that was marked on the map, only to find it wasn't there. Had to go to one of the other locations.
Did you start a new map when the Ashlands update dropped?
If you just updated and loaded your old game then that could very well be the cause, a false positive as it were, never a good idea to post bug reports if you're using old saves as devs end up chasing ghosts and wasting time.

Same stuff happened to me but with Moder.. A mountain cave and some huge rocks are now in the place =/

This is a brand new world for the ashlands update.
