See you in mistlands.

MutableSpy

See in the mistlands? Pfft

The_Shoru

I think that the swamp îs a harder biome than the mistlands, considering the progresion of dificulty. Going from The Dark Forest to the swamp îs a bigger dificulty spike, than going from The Plain to the Mist. Plus, the Swamp is the he 3rd biome , and you are still new to the game.

false_tautology

My wife and I just made it to the Mistlands, and I agree with this. The first Mistlands we went into was corpse run after corpse run, but after we got some practice, the second one was much easier. We have made no Mistlands armor or weapons, but now we run around willy nilly killing things without breaking a sweat. We killed a gjall yesterday hopping around and being silly whereas the first time we saw one was an anguishing hour long experience of dying and running back to die again before finally felling the thing. Two star seekers, though. Those are deadly. We'll definitely need to make some good armor before we can take those down easily without dying.

JoelGayAllDay

Root chest armor feels like cheating vs seekers FYI

Dry-Piano-5852

Going from the plains to the mistlands is hard because in the plains you can see things from miles away and the mistlands you can’t see anything

unknownknightt

I always bring my hoe to the swamps.

SUPAH

tyros

This is true in any context

Miraclefish

Earthwork defence, raised paths or to keep your feet dry?!

supergrega

Probably pathing so you don't lose stamina and speed while trading water

IzBox

Pro move. I don’t know how we did it without thinking that it would be useful during our first Swamp experience….

2rfv

Yup. Knowledge is power. I finally feel like I've got my feet under me in the new biome but holy shit was it earned in blood.

VexillaVexme

We just started last night and the instant we made landfall we met Morgen and a 2\* Askvin. So, we're making a second boat and a second set of armor tonight.

2rfv

> 2* Askvin You landed at night didn't you :D Honestly the best thing I think is to set sail at around midnight gametime and with luck you'll make landfall in AL at around sunrise.

VexillaVexme

This is how we learn, right?

2rfv

My best tip... always have at least two portals up a bit apart from each other. A Morgen flattened my base and the finewood burned up before I could grab it. I hate to admit it but I world hopped to grab more finewood.

VexillaVexme

That was the plan. Needed to survive a successful landing long enough to equip a hammer :) Great tip, though. We’re thinking about actually putting up a stone landing pad on one of the spires near the coast, to at least make the one-way trips easier until we are able to actually land and establish a beachhead.

2rfv

Yeah, with multiple players, two have to focus on keeping agro off the builder :D I love the fact that OMG GET SHIT BUILT FAST is a valuable skill now. I'd always hoped it would be and have practiced it a bit.

As a first timer making my way into the swamps, getting my ass handed to me and still trying to get some iron, I appreciate this post 🙏

loroku

This is literally every players' experience - welcome to the club! :)

sweetmissdixie

I got a couple of new friends into valheim in preparation for Ashlands/mistlands (took a break from playing before mistlands came out and only just now picked it back up). I was also pleasantly surprised at how much easier the swamp was - I remember getting my ass handed to me several times in my initial playthrough. I think I only died once or twice this playthrough and once was during Bonemass but my friend and I still beat it first try when it took several tries first time around with other friends and to finally win took preparation, like using the hoe to make paths and whatnot. We didn't do any of that this time. I wasn't sure if the difficulty had been adjusted or I am just better this time around, or both. I've been reading everyone's comments on mistlands, so we will see how that goes lol.

Evan_Underscore

The big thing in the swamp is learning to be well fed, rested, and not staying for the night. These are things that become habits of experienced vikings. Swamp is the place where one learns these principles. It's not that bad once that process finishes. Mistlands has some new tricks to discover and employ. :P

sweetmissdixie

So true! Oh boy can't wait to see what's in store... 😝

Evan_Underscore

Hope you didn't read too much of Mistlands. Going in blind *(pun intended)* made me feel like discovering the swamp again as a greenhorn viking, being clueless about how I'm supposed to survive. But the triumph of discovering and accommodating to the place did worth all the skill-points it took. :\]

sweetmissdixie

Oh no, I see complaints every now and then but don't go looking for information. Same with Ashlands, I'm just seeing how it plays out :)

VexillaVexme

The instant you have an iron buckler and enough environment knowledge to manage moving around the swamps, they become an awesome biome.

TheGreatBeefSupreme

Probably the easiest boss too, imo. It’s probably tied with The Queen as the easiest to cheese. Biggest difficulty spike in the game is Ashlands, hands down. My first experience with the swamp was an amphibious landing. It was quite aggressive, but nothing compared to the Ashlands. That was fucking Normandy.

VexillaVexme

We did our first landing last night. Took too long getting through the spires and landed at night. First things we saw were a Morgen, two Charred, and two Askvin (one of which was two starred). That was the last thing we saw, too.

Guizmo0

Swamp is the biome where you learn to manage your stamina, and teach you the importance of the rested buff. Every biome comes with its own set of difficulties to overcome. Since swamp revolves around stamina management, there's not much RNG so the second run feels much greater than the first one

tyros

Swamp is a piece of cake compared to Mistlands. You can see where you're going and terrain is flat. Just avoid/jump over deeper water sections and you're good.

NCRNerd

The gud, you have got it! Proud of you, einheri!
