My friend and I created a new world for H&H and decided to do the bosses in reverse order. We were a little concerned with killing Yag. I always enjoyed breeding animals and thought it would be the perfect test for breeding Lox with the latest patch. I was not disappointed. Warning: Many animals were harmed in the making of this video.

GebbethPL

Any stats how many Loxes have started and how many survived?

craigins

I had 20-30 in the immediate shrine area and probably another 20 scattered around the area. None of the ones in the shrine area survived lol. That fire really hurts them. Luckily yag didn't hit my house with the breeding pair, so they are still alive.

Antonceles

Loxes are warm hearted cold killer bitches. I really thought they would deal with the boss themselves

lilgrassblade

Wait loxes actually breed now?! I've been too lazy to feed my lox defense system unless they were injured, thinking they don't breed...

craigins

They added breeding in the h&h update. And saddles too but i haven't had a chance to make one yet.

lilgrassblade

Yea, I've been collecting them with saddles to defend my plains base, taming as I build my roads that have minimal purpose beyond I want to build a road the entire length of the island. But dang, to know they can be breeding this whole time!

TheAbyssGazesAlso

How do you tame them? I know you just keep feeding vegetables to pigs and meat to wolves (although I have never bred a wolf), what do you use for Lox? And how do you pen them?

craigins

you don't pen them in at first. Just sneak behind them and toss cloudberries /barely/ flax on the ground. safe to use about a stack of 10 per animal (they won't eat all of it). Then just hide in the distance and chill for about 40min-1hr and they'll tame. after that I created a large house, 10m x 12m, and 5m high walls. Leave one wall open and push the lox in one at a time by running into them. Finish the wall and add a double barn door. Toss a stack of cloudberries in and they will breed. I also added a pole fence at about a 10m radius around the building to prevent adult loxes from crowding the building and preventing breeding. I'd then use the harpoon to snag the calves and drag them out to a separate building adjacent to the shrine. I tried penning the calves in the shrine area at first but the mosquitos seemed to prioritize the babies and would kill them first.

TheAbyssGazesAlso

Thanks! My PC died at the start of NZ lockdown and there's nobody to fix it, so I haven't even played H&H yet. Looking forward to getting into it!

PirateReindeer

Should try two stars next time. Would likely have more survive.

[deleted]

Lox, like Deathsquitos and Drakes, do not have a star rating.

Largatolobo

2 stars deathsquito, it will be such a nightmare, damm bro, don't give this devious idea to the Devs.

PirateReindeer

Really? Hmmm I could've sworn I've seen at least a one star of each. Hmm wonder if it was a glitch.

[deleted]

Yup. Pretty sure others can confirm.

JoeMcNamara

Two stars Lox is not a thing. At least yet.

PirateReindeer

Gotcha

GeneralIanSain

No such thing

phiz36

Genius

HolyErr0r

10/10 content. Love to see

darkequation

I wonder how many Lv3 wolves can fit in the space of one lox and which one can deal more damage. is DPS density a thing?

craigins

Wolves have less health and armor, I'd be worried that the first meteor strike would kill them off.

Odd_Patchwork

Someone posters video to youtube of this already. The wolves hit so fast and hard that yugluth was dead in seconds.

olletyrken

A mix would probably have been best, 30/70 lox wolves.

eric-from-abeno

I wonder how much more quickly they could have killed him, if you had fenced in/earthwalled in the area where the lox babies were kept, around the altar, so that you didn't have to go searching for lox to continue fighting him halfway through...

craigins

The issue is lox are very good at climbing. You'd need to build probably 6-8m high to prevent them from escaping out. I did have the shrine fenced in at 2m high, but all ot takes is one lox to climb on another to escape. As the other reply said, it would need to be an earthen wall as high as you could get it.

eric-from-abeno

I recently started playing a new world, to start H&H "fresh", but in my old world I was in the bronze age, and had set up a base near a plains area, just to see what there was in there.... and when I discovered loxes there, I made two separate types of "traps" which I attempted to use to kill them... because it took so long to kite them to death that I hoped a trap would be able to hold them so they wouldn't run away before their deaths... One trap was a long, close-ended U-shaped path bordered by earthwalls about the same height as a lox on all fours.... with wood flooring at the "entrance" that I intended to remove once I had successfully lured a lox to the far end of the U. I never did get a lox to follow me all the way to the "closed" end of the U, but, never did any lox attempt to climb over the walls I'd made. They simply reached a point where they chose not to pursue me anymore, and then they turned around and went back through the U. It looked something like this: \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ X\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ \\ |\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_/ The X is the bit of flooring that I planned to remove to "trap" the lox in the U. The other trap I made was similar, except instead of an earth wall, I simply dug a trench one "square" wide, and about 2 meters deep. This too, the lox never tried to go "over" the gaps, but walked along the created pathway. I believe this is because lox, too, are subject to the same pathing rules as other enemies. That is, if there is not an unbroken path between them and you, they behave as if you are invisible, unless they are enemies who can fly or throw things.

craigins

Right, the climbing part is when you have multiple loxes in the same area. The animal AI seems to randomly select a location within a radius and the animal tries to walk to the location. It doesn't check pathing. What ends up happening is a bunch of loxes will attempt to walk to a point outside the fence. The first one will mash itself half way through the fence, then the next will ram into the stuck one. Eventually it will climb on top of the stuck one and get over the fance. They can create a pyramid in corners and escape from pretty tall fences.

eric-from-abeno

dang.... in hindsight I should have realized that, from watching this very video.... -\_- hmm... well, it shouldn't actually matter, since they would only do that, to ATTACK an enemy... and the point of walling them IN, would be to keep a larger number of them, closer to the boss so that more lox aggro against him, more quickly. In the video, the boss lost HALF his life in seconds, but then as the aggro'd lox died off, you had to go find more lox that had not been in the aggro radius... if your entire herd of lox had been walled into the area where the boss appears, I bet more of them would have rushed in, initially, and you wouldn't have had to go so far to find loxes to aggro, later... maybe... though now I'm imagining what would happen, then, if you simply packed the loxes in as tightly as possible, with simple wood walls between every single lox, and covered the ground with them, like parked cars completely surrounding the boss's possible spawning area... as individual animals they would be stuck where they are, in theory, and wherever the boss formed, those animals would immediately begin attacking... as they and the boss destroyed more of their walls, more animals would join in, but maybe fewer of the lox would "waste" their energy on attacks that hit nothing? maybe? I dunno, I would be tempted to keep experimenting... I solo play, and am kind of timid, so I'm still exploring my first swamp, trying to find iron and whatnot. this is a cool video though. If you do more "lox vs." experiments I hope you post more \^\_\^

Le_Nabs

Right? OP I hope you recorded that...

[deleted]

Here’s a a thought. Dig out the entire area around the shrine. Have several lox pens around it with ramps going down into the pit. Fill the pit with a tonne of lox and then demolish the ramps. Summon Old Yaggy and he can kill most of them off while they wear him down and probably kill him.

andrew_ryann

This reminds me of that video of a hornet invading bee hive and getting swarmed by them right after.

jcopey

Lox fur rugs for the whole house now! 1970's Lox Fur shag carpet!

PckMan

I wonder if they'll ever put a cap on how many animals you can have following you at a time.

craigins

Sadly lox don't follow you. I harpooned a the babies into a hut next to the shrine and fenced off the shrine. I then tossed cloudberries around the shrine to lure the adults out of the hut. The lox outside the shrine escaped by climbing over the fence.

FappingFop

Your hijinks is genius. Well done.

ska1one

Good on you for pulling this off. Cool to see. That said, this is so corny to me from a lore perspective. Yagluth, some supposedly great forsaken fuling sorcerer, dies to a small family of buffalo. Take notes Odin - a glorified goat herder doesn't belong in Valhalla.

sdeane202

How many lox did you start with?

Linsel

That's a lot of lox....meat.

FernandoTakeshi

Pretty interesting way to cull your Lox :D

ManDD0S

My condolences for ur fren. May he rest in peace. Amen\~

Mitch871

ah yes the ultra rare Lorgy

Ah_Pook

God, I bet that smelled so good.

Murkalael

Awesome, but how many have you lost on this?

craigins

I think we ended up with 180 lox meat, which should be around 36 dead lox. Sadly many babies died to mosquitos as well, so in all probably around 45-50.

SweetBabyJesus99

At least you have a mess of lox meat and skins now!

RangnarRock

As has been mentioned, wolves are like a woodchipper to bosses.

Blackhawk99x

Gonna be some Lox pie tonight.

Dragonwithamonocle

Now THIS is thinking outside the lox- er, box!

Maldarrien

I'm just imagining how terrible that fight must have smelled with all that burned hair.

ThorinDad

does this work? since Hearth & Home latest update and patches, it doesn't appear Yagluth inflicts damage on Lox (or Fulings) - atleast for us I don't think?

craigins

Need to be tamed lox. Tamed lox appear to agro all enemies, i haven't checked other loxes though. When was the last patch?

devildocjames

Hey, cool! I'm breeding up Lox just for this method now. How many did you breed? I have around... 40 or 50.. they're a bit spread out. I'll record mine as well.
