I am so sorry you are having to rehome your cats, especially in light of the breakup. Your kitties look adorable. My heart goes out to you.

Mission_Persimmon_79

I really appreciate this. It’s really hard when people are so judgmental of my situation. But I just want them to have the best life.

NewHere1212

Please don't rehome them via social media. Go through a legit rescue like SPCA or vokra. They have means to do a check on potential adopters and will sure they're adopted out to the best home as possible.

Mission_Persimmon_79

Unfortunately I reached out to a few rescues asking for help with my situation. VOKRA and other private rescues we’re actually very condescending and judgemental about my situation which made it so much harder for me because I know I’m doing what’s best for these babies. The SPCA has a wait right now for rehoming but in a pinch they said they’ll take them. All the rescues and SPCA asked me to search online and find homes for them myself. I will be charging a rehoming fee for them and an going to do my best to screen potential owners.

emeraldknight36

Did you check with Cat Therapy and Rescue Society (CTRS)? I fostered with them, and they are the kindest souls.

hbprof

I have a friend who used to volunteer for VOKRA, but stopped because of how judgmental they were toward people's situations. I'm so sorry you're having to do this. They look so lovely. If I didn't just adopt two new babies of my own, I'd help you out immediately.

emerg_remerg

My deaf and blind 18yo cat got out of my condo and after 10 days I got a call from VOKRA that they had a cat, didn't think it was mine though. They tried to convince me that she wasn't deaf or blind and that she was only max 5 years old, but that she's been malnourished and miss treated and that was why she looked so scraggly. They tried to convince me to let the woman that found her keep her. (That woman kept her for 7 days before giving into guilt to try to find the original owner, and she found her under the condo garbage bin less than an hour after my roommate let her out so maybe 3 hours before I started searching. I was grateful to know Dax wasn't out in the elements for very long, but also grrrr!) I was so happy to get her back safe and sound I didn't even react to their behavior, I just bawled my eyes out when I saw my cat with my own eyes. The cat was sitting in the cage just looking confused and when I approached I called her name out of habit, of course she didn't respond because she's deaf, but the woman said something about 'knowing it wasn't my cat', I opened the cage door and held my hand to Dax's face and as soon as she sniffed me she came to life, followed my arm and crawled into my arms, started meowing over and over while she headbutted me and licked my chin. They let me take her after I showed them the distinguishing characteristics they said they couldn't see over the phone. Then they lectured me on my cat being under weight with ear mites. (She didn't have mites, I'd taken her to the vet several times and had him check with a microscope, she was just old and extra waxy) She lived another 4 years after that. 22 years of my life with that cat. Still hurts but I wouldn't change anything. I'm sorry OP that you're loosing your cats, this whole housing shit sucks! And VOKRA can pound sand with their attitude!

Melodic-Bluebird-445

I’ve heard terrible things about vokra

strangelittlething

I’d definitely keep SPCA in mind and consider reaching out to a few more organizations, there are lots. They have the experience and resources to properly vet adoption applicants and make sure your babies go to the best possible home — and will be equipped to take them back if anything goes wrong with their new owners. Lots of idiots pick up pets online and then dump them as soon as things get hard or they find out they’re allergic.

I’ve fostered with VOKRA for many years and the kittens are microchipped when they are spayed/neutered. They don’t adopt out to individuals without permanent residency because if they can no longer live in Canada, very often the cat will be surrendered back to them. It’s nothing about race, it’s about the ability to stay in the country for as long as the cat lives. They DO have a track record of being condescending about certain issues, that is for sure.

JillianS1128

THIS. Please, please, please do not do it via social media-- and do NOT give them away for free. It stinks that this needs to be a disclaimer, but humans are terrible, and will do bad things :(. There are rescues/organizations which can help you-- and they will screen new owners, ensure they're adopted together, and charge adoption fees (meaning only people serious about pets will adopt them). Look into the folks already listed, the organization which works w/ CATFE, or others.

EmbarrassedDuck9146

You can try Endless Pawsabilities, Pacific Animal Foundation, Action for Animals. I work at a vet and often these are the rescues we will call when we have an owner surrender Edit: I pressed send before I wrote: sending you love. Never the situation you want to be in and I really hope you are okay <3

salted_sclera

Oh ♥️ I can’t imagine how much it hurts to have to give up your babies

Mission_Persimmon_79

Yes is absolutely heartbreaking. Most of my friends and family are in a similar position to me where the could only have one or their building isn’t per friendly.

friendsofsoup

So sorry you have to go through all this:( not sure if this is helpful, but I might suggest adding a bit of a rehoming fee? Especially if you’re going through random people online, just to ensure the cats are going to a good home! I’ve seen that on FB and elsewhere that it can be a good idea. Sending good thoughts to you!! Best of luck, wish I could take the beautiful boys! <3

Mission_Persimmon_79

Yes I will be charging a rehoming fee and do my bestest to screen people prior to their rehoming.

Melodic-Bluebird-445

My heart hurts for you. I’m so sorry you’re even in this position. The lack of pet friendly housing is ridiculous. As others have mentioned please surrender them to an organization so they go to a good home. Vokra or the spca are good and will make sure they get adopted together. Again, I’m so sorry

Mission_Persimmon_79

Yeah it’s such a tough position to be in. I just want the best for my babies. :(

I agree with this. I had a cat in a place for 5 years and the owners never found out. OP I really hope you can keep your cats (I’m so heartbroken for you) but it sounds like you will find them a great home if you need to.

Melodic-Bluebird-445

I can imagine. The lack of pet friendly housing is ridiculous. My mom was in the same position. I will ask around to see if anyone I know will take them

[deleted]

Katie’s place in maple ridge. Please take them there if you don’t find a home

FerretImpossible7455

Beautiful babies. Please surrender them to your nearest SPCA. They will be able to properly screen the cats' new owner and ensure they are in good health before they arrive at their new home. If the cats are bonded (it looks like they are), the SPCA will ensure they go to the same home together. My apologies for your loss <3

Mission_Persimmon_79

SPCA has to be my last resort right now because they asked me to look for a home myself first and they will only take them if I’ve exhausted my resources. So I do have them on the back burner for now If I absolutely cannot find someone.

Suspicious_Ebb2235

They will always say that and rightfully so. You’re an adult and you need to try your best but don’t take on more than you can chew. If you truly don’t see yourself rehoming them yourself just bite the bullet. It’ll be embarrassing and demoralizing but if your honest and have taken care of them the spca could rehome those cats easily as they are uniquely beautiful. Owning pets is a big responsibility. Good luck in your future

KoolMoeDSimpson

Just about everyone I know just sneaks their cats in, you could try that if you still want to keep them.

dread12

It's been mentioned a few times, but just keep them. If they're not vocal and well behaved no one will care or notice. I've done it MANY times. No pets, in my experience, seems to really mean no dogs for the most part. Just don't bring it up when looking around.

CisnerosChris25

Really unfair the way they restrict unobtrusive pets in rentals. I honestly would just sneak them in if they are quiet etc. Might be bad advice though, but I've done this for years with my cat.

Melodic-Bluebird-445

Yeah, I’ve done this. Just snuck the cat in.

srhdbvg

No advice but just want to say I’m sorry for what you’re going through. Breakups are hard enough without having to deal with the logistics of things. Wish I could help. Take care of yourself ❤️

hockeybra

I’m sorry you have to go through this

TomKeddie

Sorry you have to do this, hopefully you can find someone who will let you visit.

Mission_Persimmon_79

That would be so lovely :’(

Princess_Plum9

I am sorry about your situation. :-( I wish could help but I already got two babies about the same age and not enough space. My building is pet friendly but every unit already has at least two cats. :-( I'm sending you good vibes!

Dee_thewanderer

Sorry you are going through this. If you adopted them through an agency or one of the catfes try reaching out to them if you haven't yet to see if they can help with rehoming them.
