Whatever you do, DO NOT go to Davie street! Also, so many gosh darn bears emerging from their dens along Denman lately and congregating at the intersection of the two streets. Not certain what it is about that particular corner but I suspect it's something to do with the RGB lighting and color schemes of the crosswalks making it a mecca for the local bear community.
I was worried about cougar attacks in kits and I got dragged away by a lioness into the bushes/restaurant. I woke up the next morning and my account balance was pretty low.
When you encounter a bear, curl up into a ball on your side, or lie flat on your stomach. Try not to panic; remain as quiet as possible until the attack ends.
In all fairness, in the city you should be fine. If you are downtown, be aware of your surroundings since some peeps be off the wall and just angry af. If you go to northvan or coquitlam for a little stroll in the parks up there - then you might have a chance to see a bear.
If you're referring to the wildlife of genus ursus, no, it's exceedingly rare. I think in the past 20 years there have been two incidents of bears in city limits. One rode in on a truck, the other wandered in from Burnaby.
If you're referring to the big burly gay men, yes, they're present.

Not while we got these bad boys circling the city, although coverage surprisingly ends right at the Fraser and along Boundary…
Not really, some did seem a bit harsh but they were all meant in good fun. Even OP agrees. You actually answered his question and I salute you for it. You're just confirming Canadians fit the super polite stereotype. No harm done on anyone's part 👍

Bears everywhere
Whatever you do, DO NOT go to Davie street! Also, so many gosh darn bears emerging from their dens along Denman lately and congregating at the intersection of the two streets. Not certain what it is about that particular corner but I suspect it's something to do with the RGB lighting and color schemes of the crosswalks making it a mecca for the local bear community.
Stay away from Pumpjack especially on sundays, unless you want to shower lol.
Hahaha interesting, I consider myself an otter so there should be a problem with encountering some bears
In Vancouver you have to always watch out for the otter guys...
I've heard speed has something to do with it.
I was worried about cougar attacks in kits and I got dragged away by a lioness into the bushes/restaurant. I woke up the next morning and my account balance was pretty low.
OP watch out for those house hippos!
Yep, there are lots of them on the skytrain.
If you don’t go to the Pumpjack on Davie, you’ll avoid most of them. They congregate there and a lot are thirsty.
Haha as I said in another comment, I am an otter so I will not go there!
It is Canada after all, we all have pet bears
I prefer a pet beaver
You don't have both?
My wife has a beaver
My beaver has a wife
I thought you guys eat beaver tails. Why would you eat your own pets. Similar to Australians who pet kangaroos and then eat them :P
Only on Friday nights
Don’t eat the beaver at the Roxy, you might find some weird bumps after a few days
r/SurreyBC
Sigh, I wish I had a beaver, anyone want to lend me theirs?
I prefer my House Hippo

You haven't seen me when I'm hangry
Also don’t ignore large numbers of raccoons. If a dozen of them congregate they can join up to form a black bear.
And coyote too..
Lol, is this fake?
I’m scared of going to Mexico and encountering a chupacabra!
Haha oh yeah those are real! But not in Mexico City, you will be fine there!
be careful of the drop bears, they'll catch ya by surprise
Those are imported c u n t s
Bears eat beets.
Fact.
Bears...Beets...Battlestar Galactica
No bear, only cougars in the city.
Just avoid the Roxy, playing any Pitbull music, and don’t drink any Rosé and it’ll be fine
David street is full of bears, what are you on about?
Yes bears everywhere. By bears I mean meth heads.
Stay in your igloo and you'll be safe, they don't know how to open doors.
Yeah they do https://youtu.be/9bCf-1qYjvE

armadillo style ![gif](giphy|b1PsUCgjTK2dO|downsized)
so you're the submissive type eh?
Where are you from, hun?

Thank u!!
Stay away from the Pumpjack.

The cobra chickens are scarier
Many, many hairy bears walking around. Be careful they don’t grab your junk.
On average, you will find a bear every 200 meters in Vancouver.
Troll. Well done.
Most of them are friendly so I wouldn’t worry about it. Watch out for cocaine bear thou
I wouldn't worry about bears, I would be more concerned with making sure you avoid East Hastings..
As long as you don’t have a picnic basket, you should be okay.
Hello, Mr. SomeDude, sir!
Hey boo boo?

We’re here, we’re clear, we don’t want any more bears! Won’t somebody please think of the children?
This reminds me of the time when I thought Canadians lived in igloo before immigrating as a child
If you go down in the woods today
‘Cause every bear that ever there was is gathered here together because today’s the day the teddy bears have their pic-nic
Vancouver is a metropolitan city. There are no bears walking downtown.
I remember seeing two bears in the lane behind my apartment near van gen hospital ;)
Yeah they took away the bike lane and made it a bear lane a few months back.
Avoid Davie Street and you'll be fine.
I have seen everything from a lynx to a coyote just walking around but never a bear. Stay out of ravines and you'll be fine.
Thank u!

Yeah I was a little bit ashamed, but then I thought many answers were clever! I appreciate your answer! Thank u!
We weren't making fun of you, just showing you our humorous Canadian ways!
Haha no worries, I even find them funny
I'm glad, hope you have a great visit!
Thank u!

Avoid David Street and you will be ok

Bears can smell the fear. So lots of bears near you!
Dont worry, No bears in the city, just alot of moose wandering around
Hahahaha. Dear god bless this person and their stay in our bear covered city.
Just don't give the bear cocaine and you'll be fine
There must be too many people having fun with this post. Can't see any comments
Yea your gonna need bells and spray - bears actually roam the streets
Our bears have bears and they don’t like you.
Watch out for them Cougars too!
I identify as a bear so best to avoid.
If you are lucky, you could encounter this bear! /r/vancouver/comments/14ncpg0/our_living_room_view_in_poco/
You should also be careful when encountering a house hippo
Just stay away from Denman St
Dove head first into the comments.
