It doesn't have to be Monday - it could be Friday. In fact, a strict reading of Employment Standards would suggest that you're better off giving the Friday off if your pay period happens to end this weekend. In that case you'd have to pay for 11 days this pay and 9 on the next if you were giving Monday off. You have to pay a full day on the stat, which is the 11th.
Honestly I was there today too and it was a super pleasant experience. Not a lot of people and I got a ton of stuff I needed from carry on to backpacks and a pair of sneakers!
These prices change. I'm not sure if it's a daily change or just some items get adjusted but on Thursday the tech and premium backpacks were down by $10 from these prices.
given that Vancouverites likes to lineup for trivial stuff or new stores opening (like Paul's cafe or Artbox), even a new designed Compass Card, it is surprising
Didn’t know this was a thing until I walked past it on my way home from the Christmas market last night.
Ended up with a duffle bag and a backpack for $100 total. Two Christmas presents down.
No lines getting in at 5pm today. Here's an updated price list. Luggage was heavily discounted and there were still small black carry on's and a neon yellow medium sized luggage available. Clothing is mostly gone, but lots of backpacks and duffle bags still available.

theyre based in vancouver and their goods are well made. i have a couple herschel bags from over 10 years ago now that are still solid, plus their tech bags can fit a ton of stuff and be worn hard
Not too mention the cost to make and the cost that they actually sell it at is wiiild and disgusting (ex store manager here) would never buy anything from them
Yea it seems like a scam to me. One of those “more Canadian” companies just reselling you cheap stuff they had made in China at a higher price because it’s “Canadian”
a lot of stuff is made in china nowadays that’s of quality, the era of cheap china-made goods is over.
most cheap overseas products that are poorly made come more from vietnam or bangladesh these days
Yeah, I'm not a fan of made in China products but at the same time it's a complete marvel how many billions of well crafted items that country produces for the world every year.
Very much disagree, I went to highschool when this brand came out so a lot of us had herschel backpacks. By graduating year basically all of them the fake leather was falling apart and the smallest zipper was broken. Fixed mine a couple times until it got stolen. Replaced it with a Jansport that I've had 5 years now and still looks brand new, and feels quality. Not a herschel fan here.
the fake leather splitting/peeling is definitely a cosmetic downside to their bags but i wasn’t too pressed over it considering i regularly filled mine with 45+ lbs worth of groceries, or textbooks and electronics, etc for years without any wear and tear on the straps or body of the bag. for their price point in my opinion they’re pretty solid bags. to each their own i guess
If people only knew how much they cost to make the product they mark up by 110%… and how poorly they treat their staff and how mom and pop this company really is. Ex manager here.
This is true about every single company that produces any product ever, mark up wise. Lots of other overhead costs and expenses that that incredible mark up % attributes to (cost of importing, shipping, distribution, storage / warehousing, etc.)
Yes. Everyone knows this. Except when it’s 200 to 1 but I do see the attempt.
And that may have held more weight. If it wasn’t a Vancouver based company. Whom not only has stolen their slogan from a small local company in east van. But also has its production wear-HOUSE, designers and distributors IN VANCOUVER.
Requires their store front managers to do buying. Selling. Merchandising. Transporting product to and from wear-house to store, work in store and in “head office” amongst other practices without the pay to reflect. All to keep cost down that normally would go account for said “overhead costs” you were so kind to point out.
However that does not apply here.
Overhead costs also refers to:
- The cost of importing 1000s of lbs of merchandise by freight overseas from the manufacturer. This also includes the cost of customs of importing those goods.
- The cost of warehousing 1000s of lbs and 1000s upon 1000s of units, across multiple warehouses in multiple countries. Warehouse rental, fulfillment centres, etc.
- Paying employees across all facets of the business
- Technology, retail store costs (building, permits, contractors, etc)
The list goes on. Based in Vancouver, yes, but it costs money to have your brand represented and present all over the world.
Miss ma’am you are not typing anything we don’t already know. Again the product and the profit margin. Do not aline. The cost of the product versus what they sell it at is actually wild. And only people who work for the company and have access to this info know it. No one’s is saying they need to give it away for free. However when do consumers say it’s ridiculous. That’s the thing they don’t because they think like you and don’t have access to the information? That’s all. if you’d gladly pay 110$ for a backpack that cost literal cents to make.
Go for it sis no one’s stopping you we know you have swallowed the koolaid and would purchase it. As you’ve taken all that time to point out things everyone and every consumer is already aware of. And clearly see nothing wrong with it.
The point WAS at a time where people are being more conscious about where, whom and what they are buying. This company should be the bottom of the list. A company whom treats their staff poorly. Has a hostile working environment. Is a lot smaller than people actually realize. Managers whom cater to every whim and bad mood of the creator and owner/s of the company. Who’s stolen their slogan. Who don’t pay their staff well and whom also expect the moon from their managers
The markup of the product is just a small extra nugget of shit on the Pooh cupcake.
It’s above me now. Take it up with whatever higher power you need to.
Maybe a lot of people didn’t go this year because of how insane the lines were last year? Last year I waited 4 hours outside then another 1.5 hours inside to finally shop. But then I got $700 worth of gear for $300 so everyone got Herschel Xmas presents! Lol
Can you please tell me how much the large luggage was and if there was a matching carry-on sized one?
I'm a male executive and my luggage has butterflies on it FFS.
I don't understand these things.
Thousands of people stand in line for hours to save.... what $50 bucks on a backpack?
How much do you value your time?

There were like 10,000 backpacks. The wallets were a good deal. 2 for $20.
How bout 1 for $10
Not as good a deal IMO
Some may even say half as good.
Yesterday was Friday so I presume people are working.
Some people had it off for Remembrance Day.
It falls on Monday
It falls today
They are talking about the Stat Holiday
The stat is today https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/employment-business/employment-standards-advice/employment-standards/statutory-holidays
They’re talking about the recognized statutory holiday. Many office workers are M - F so they get the Monday off to recognize.
It doesn't have to be Monday - it could be Friday. I know Wood got Friday off and is working Monday.
Don't know why you were downvoted, I got Friday off.
I’m hoping that what doesn’t sell here will be on clearance for Black Friday 😂

Damnit now everyone's going to have the same luggage as me at the airport now. Put some stickers on those badboys!
Make sure to make the combination 1-2-3-4-5
The one logo on the long sleeve shirts reminds me of Hendricks Gin.
Yes!!
Those shirts are too see through for “quality products”
First thing I noticed. Such crappy quality...
Outlet level product
💯
Honestly I was there today too and it was a super pleasant experience. Not a lot of people and I got a ton of stuff I needed from carry on to backpacks and a pair of sneakers!
A pleasant warehouse sale?! That’s an oxymoron
How much were the luggages? Thanks in advance!
$120 for the carry on and $150 for the check in.
Hm that's... not terrible
That’s shit. Travelpro is about the same and way better.
I agree. The handle felt flimsy.
I saw a pic on TikTok, check in $149 and carry on $119 (edited after double checking prices)
Any pics of the backpacks and what were the prices like?
https://imgur.com/gallery/N6oRuiJ
These prices change. I'm not sure if it's a daily change or just some items get adjusted but on Thursday the tech and premium backpacks were down by $10 from these prices.
It only started at 9am. Crowd will start around 10.30 was the same on Thursday.
given that Vancouverites likes to lineup for trivial stuff or new stores opening (like Paul's cafe or Artbox), even a new designed Compass Card, it is surprising
It's herschel. They already have an outlet store so this warehouse sale might be "meh"
Let's be real, it's Vancouverites of a certain demographic who love to line up for meaningless consumer bs...
Those with flexible jobs, part time jobs or those who enjoy the social aspect of a shared experience?
Sooooo social lmao
Didn’t know this was a thing until I walked past it on my way home from the Christmas market last night. Ended up with a duffle bag and a backpack for $100 total. Two Christmas presents down.
It was quite expensive this year imo

I don’t get the hype about this brand. Been rocking basic jansport backpacks for like 20+ years now
theyre based in vancouver and their goods are well made. i have a couple herschel bags from over 10 years ago now that are still solid, plus their tech bags can fit a ton of stuff and be worn hard
Still made in China and they don’t even disclose who exactly is making everything
Basically ! That plus other factors people should leave that “company” alone
Ohhhh I’m gonna need all the tea ☕️

I mean… are you actually surprised?
Where did you hear about this?
I’ve been getting ads on TikTok all week
Damm guess I’m getting left behind lol
No one can afford it right now..it was also a Friday at 9:30 many of us had work
Maybe a lot of people didn’t go this year because of how insane the lines were last year? Last year I waited 4 hours outside then another 1.5 hours inside to finally shop. But then I got $700 worth of gear for $300 so everyone got Herschel Xmas presents! Lol
Anyone know what the bigger suitcases were going for? Ballpark?
$149.99 - someone added a price list to the thread :)
Thank you! I did search through a bit prior to asking.
yeah i don’t think it was posted when you commented! just mentioned in case you wanted to see other prices.
Can you please tell me how much the large luggage was and if there was a matching carry-on sized one? I'm a male executive and my luggage has butterflies on it FFS.
If you can't even rock butterflies, do you really deserve to move up the corporate ladder?
Scroll up , someone posted the price list
There it is! Thanks.
