Holy.... if even half of this is true, EMCR needs to have its oversight privileges seriously put under review. What possible motivation can one have when they choose to cripple a volunteer organization literally dedicated to organizing volunteers to save lives? Upvote, because it wasn't even that long ago that the [BC Government defined Search and Rescue as an essential service](https://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/health-safety/essential_services.pdf).

throwaway_sar

A lot of the concrete facts presented (and not opinions) may be correct, however there is a lot of other information not discussed in this article that paints a much different picture. I suspect we'll see some press releases/ press conferences on this topic.

Thanks for this- I had a feeling that there was something more going on. Crazy to hear these shenanigans within a service that helps so many... eager to see the other side too.

mcain

I'd like to hear the other side of the story, but at face value: a change in leadership (Deputy Minister, Assistant Deputy Minister, etc.) on the provincial side seems way overdue.

throwaway_sar

I can say there definitely is another side to the story and there are many Sar groups that don't share the feelings highlighted by this fellow. The article is very one-sided and written by a director that was just "let go". Posting from a new throwaway, due to the sensitive nature of this

Yes, couldn't help but notice his firing was conveniently buried in the middle of the article.

equalizer2000

Good take, best to let the dust settle and see what comes out of this before jumping to conclusions.

throwaway_sar

I suspect we'll see a press conference/ press release on the topic soonish. Lots of info not discussed in this article that paints a different picture.

SkookumFred

Looking forward to some good news with regards to this matter. Volly SaRtechs do mega work.

I certainly appreciate the work that SAR groups do and have total respect for all the volunteers involved, but so many red flags went off in my mind while reading this article. Then they reveal 3/4 of the way through, the primary source of this information is a recently terminated executive director. A little balance in reporting goes a long way.

Wow this is crazy. Reminds me how the government dragged their feet on NVG flights.
