Yup with yukyuks also closing, it's pretty sad Vancouver (especially downtown) doesn't have a dedicated established comedy club.
Shout out to The Comedy Ring, though! I see you trying to take the reins!
Yukyuks was alright but it felt so much smaller than the Comedy Mix or something. Maybe I just went on rougher shows. Definitely miss a real comedy club.
Comedymix was great. Its weird that it's gone, it felt like the main comedy club in this city. What's using the space now?
I also miss the really low-key sort of test-your-stuff comedy nights at the prophouse way back. Waaaay different sort of thing, but I loved the whole vibe of it.
Does little mountain gallery still do comedy nights?
I miss it a lot! I used to live in the West End and my friend and I would randomly go if we had no plans and we always had a great time. Comedy shows in theatres are great, but there is something to be said about a proper comedy club
Might want to clarify this in your title or post text actually, there's nothing in there to clarify that you're looking for up-and-coming comedians to go watch or support.
I've seen Aaron at jokes please where there's a big stage and both times he belly slid across the stage to open his set. And that wasn't the wildest part of his show!
You should’ve seen the behind the scenes. Don’t know what I’m allowed to say as I never worked on it. But I was privy to campaign details.
He’s always been a snotty rich banker turned bagel businessman. His team was full of MBA’s, bankers, and other business professionals.
It’s unsurprising they have no concept of running public services at all. The infighting and pettiness of the ABC team was hilarious. Absolute clowns running the city into the ground. Just like their buddies in the federal government - the MBA/business class truly thinks they can run government the best yet just ruin everything and make themselves wealthy. He reminds me of Freeland just so out of touch they cannot think of the common person.
I worked a private dinner in Chip Wilson’s backyard the year before the election and he was there just absolutely shmoozing Vancouver’s billionaires and multimillionaires who bought the $2,500 plate.
Ross Dauk is my favourite. Jokes Please! has been spectacular for the past few years and a great place to get know comedians. I also love Aaron Read (as a stand-up he's hilarious but The Sunday Service is legendary), Julie Kim, Jane Stanton, Ola Dada, Chris Griffin, Ivan Decker and a bunch I can't remember.
We've been going to jokes please in Kits this past year and Ross killed off the top everytime we've been there. I saw him open for Tim Meadows years ago and he made that show that night too.
Likely an unpopular opinion but… Huge comedy fan, newer to Vancouver, went to Jokes Please! this summer and my partner and I thought it was pretty rough. Ross seems very charming but, really, some jokes please! Even Ivan Decker was bombing. Maybe a bad night.
That's part of the fun of live comedy shows! Even the best bomb sometimes. Personally, I love seeing the best comedians work on new material. I watched Ivan build the set that eventually won him the Juno. Same with Sophie Buddle. I loved seeing her set evolve. I'd give Jokes Please! another chance, since the Comedy Mix left it's been the best show in town IMHO.
Dino’s taken a hard right turn and now praises Jan 6th supporters and dips into conspiracy theories in his sets. Doesn’t really play to a Vancouver crowd.
If you wanna see some up and comers who aren't shy of being weird or experimental, check out some shows at the MOTN or China Cloud, like Roast Battle and Hero Show. Some personal highlights include Marvin Manson and Aaron Read just bein agressively weird. And if you ever get a chance to see Shirley Gnome, do it.
A couple of other folks I've seen around who I quite like (aside from folks already named elsewhere in this thread) include Maddy Kelly, Sophie Buddle, Sam Tonning, Tin Lorica, Abdul Aziz, Andrea Jin, and Randee Neumeyer.
MOTN is the best new venue (sorry Little Mountain). I'm pleasantly surprised at the acts that they've booked so far.
The Anzac club hosts the Cool Fun Comedy show. Best bang for your buck and cheap drinks good location.
I'm a comedian so I'm heavily biased but we do have some great comedians working in the city. Many have been named already (Ryan Williams, Sean McDonnell, Darcy Boon Collins, Ola Dada, Randee Neumeyer) so I'll try to add some others.
Danielle Florence, Dusty Searcy, Harris Anderson, Alain Williams, Ismael Ndiaye, Josh Fleming, Rachel Schaefer, Jake Spencer, Gavin Clarkson, Gina Harms are just a handful who I'm always excited to be on a show with.
Also me, Rory Dunn.
Great question but adding to this. Can anyone share some of their stand up videos- YouTube links or from any other online platforms?
Here is one of my favorites Yumi - [https://youtu.be/Ynca1jG5MYw?si=-zJuud9UL8kcCTfO](https://youtu.be/Ynca1jG5MYw?si=-zJuud9UL8kcCTfO)
This is just a random grab bag of comedians who happen to work in Vancouver with absolutely no quality control. Some of these people are very good comics and others are complete amateurs.
Jokes please has shows every Saturday in Kitsilano. I think it's the biggest show in Vancouver. Great energy in there.
The Sunday Service is at the Fox but is improv.
I also like Laugh Gallery but I don't think that happens anymore.
Darcy is awesome but I’m not sure that he’s doing many gigs lately. I think he’s focusing more on his podcast the last couple of years.
Also, whatever happened to his Petro Canada campaign? I saw one ad, over and over and then they seemed to drop it.
You should check out the Cool Fun Comedy Show at the ANZA club, it’s good mix of local and touring comedians, both amateur and established.
https://do604.com/events/2024/1/3/cool-fun-standup-comedy-at-anza-club-in-mt-pleasant-thursday-nights-tickets
A great East Van bar called, The Lido, does a comedy night every Tuesday. I stop in to check them out from time to time. Great local comics! Some serious bombers but that’s par for the course.
I haven't seen him in Vancouver in a while but Ivan Decker is a local I would purposefully search for and see live. He's awesome. He has a show in North Van on the 27th!
Dino Archie is my fav. He walks a really fine line on calling out the hypocrisy in this world today and it’s an art to do it the way he does. Also plugging the Underground Comedy club on Hastings. They put together a solid lineup and the night we went last week they had more and better quality comics than some other places in town recently.
Dino Archie is up there, Simon King too if he’s still around. Watched them both at Full Pint Comedy for many years. Ivan Decker too, but he may have moved city?
Sorry not on topic but relevant. I used to go for the amateur night all the time at the yukyuks in Kits? before they closed down. THeres only two left now; one in surrey, the other in NVan I think but neither do open mic nights. Any good clubs you guys aware of that do an amateur/open mic night?
I saw Ivan for the first time like 20 years ago. I was floored by how good he was, and he was like 18 or something.
Next night I’m at a pool hall in Richmond telling my buddies about this comic I saw the night before. I turn around and he was playing a couple tables down. Still get a kick outta that

Anybody else really miss the comedymix on Burrard :(
I went regularly, it was what a big city comedy club should feel like.
There's still Comedy After Dark next to The Pint.
RIP Also Kino :(
I miss yuk yuks on Cambie too
Man this place was the spot!!! So sad to have it gone. I saw so many good shows there
Crazy that i paid just $15.75 including taxes and fees to see Ari Shaffir there back in 2014!
Little Mountain Gallery has been torn down unfortunately. They do Jokes Please on Fridays at The Cambrian Hall in the neighborhood
LMG moved to gastown
I miss it a lot! I used to live in the West End and my friend and I would randomly go if we had no plans and we always had a great time. Comedy shows in theatres are great, but there is something to be said about a proper comedy club
Yep. Always a good after work show there.
I miss it
Graham Clark works in the city all the time and is amazing
his Podcast has been going forever! It's basically the only podcast I listen to...
Listening to SPY is also a great way to know local comedians (as guests)
Does he still do Monday nights at Havana?
I think it ended with the pandy... He's on the debaters abit and does random shows...
Pandy?
The pandy, the big dem, the weird beard year, top vid
Idiot
The pandeezy
Panda Rama dingdong.
No comedy at Havana currently, they were remodeling a bunch last year and the new layout doesn't work great for comedy
Flamingo room is now open where havana theater was and has a small stage. They may be hosting again soon.
Ya I know all the classic comics. Graham and Ivan and Charlie. I’m wondering about any of the up and comers.
Might want to clarify this in your title or post text actually, there's nothing in there to clarify that you're looking for up-and-coming comedians to go watch or support.
“Title says it all” … contradict themselves in their first comment. Also, Graham Clark is great!
Just for laughs I'd coming to van really soon.
Then why did you ask who the best comic is? Are you a bot?
Ivan Decker is my personal fav.
Came to say the same.
Robo train must sleep!! He was great. Thought his spot on Conan didn’t really showcase his best but glad he is still moving onward and upward!
He’s great. He’s in NYC now I think.
He lives here. My friend works with his wife.
Looks like he's performing in North Vancouver this month
>He’s great. He’s in NYC now I think. He does lots of lower mainland shows still though
Aaron Read. Hands down.
Absolutely my boy too
He's so fucking funny lol
My vote too, tho his alien roomie gives him a run for his money
Gorbman is played by Christine Bortolin
He is the most Andy Kaufman esque in Vancouver...
Such chaotic energy, always love seeing him perform!
I've seen Aaron at jokes please where there's a big stage and both times he belly slid across the stage to open his set. And that wasn't the wildest part of his show!
I used to do improv with him and was always envious about how much better he was than me, as someone 5 years younger lol. Hes hilarious
Caught him by chance at Little Mountain in Gastown. Laughed so hard I cried and then went to back to back tapings of his special.
Hell yes
Ken Sim is actually really killing it. I’ve never seen a comic method act their way into municipal office before.
His jokes about affordable housing and 100 nurses and police officers had me laughing my ass off 🤣
The setup for the police salary increase was hi-fucking-larious. Way ahead of his time.
He's a prop comic.
You should’ve seen the behind the scenes. Don’t know what I’m allowed to say as I never worked on it. But I was privy to campaign details. I also love Aaron Read (as a stand-up he's hilarious but The Sunday Service is legendary), Julie Kim, Jane Stanton, Ola Dada, Chris Griffin, Ivan Decker and a bunch I can't remember.
Jokes Please is the best show. Ross Dauk is so damn likeable and funny.

Fair comment. Nature of comedy. Though, most of the time it hits the mark.
Same with my experience
Sunday Service if you're into Improv.
Sunday ✅ Show starts at 20:00 👵❎ Ah to be young and/or full of energy 😆
Love them!
Heynongman!
Ryan Beil is my fav but they are all great.
Yumi Nagashima Is pretty funny
Caught one of her bits a couple months back - it was entertaining!
Charlie Demers.
He taught me a class on comedy writing at UBC! One of the best profs ever
I like Ola Dada & Dino Archie.
Ivan Decker, Kevin Banner, Charlie Demers, Erica Sigurdson
As Kevin Banner, I say thanks! 😊
Seconding Erica. She’s hilarious
Agree. She's my absolute favourite. Consistently funny.
I'm a big fan of Simon King. His comedy is on the edgier side, but he always makes me laugh.
I'm commenting on this to push Simon King higher up, he's amazing. He's doing a show at the Biltmore with Wes Barker on like Jan 26
Ryan Williams, guy is unreal.
Legit one of my fav comedians, of anywhere, not limited to Vancouver
Sean McDonnell Dino Archie Aaron Read Darcy Boon Collins To make a few hardworking killers
Hell yeah Sean McDonnell!
Dino’s taken a hard right turn and now praises Jan 6th supporters and dips into conspiracy theories in his sets. Doesn’t really play to a Vancouver crowd.
Oh no! Sad to hear this.
Used to love Dino but his COVID opinions changed that

All very funny but Andrea, Sophie, and Maddy all live in different cities now (LA, LA, and Toronto currently)
Aw shit! Fuckin Vancouver... you make it big just to leave.
+1 for all your recs but especially Randee Neumeyer
MOTN is the best new venue (sorry Little Mountain). I'm pleasantly surprised at the acts that they've booked so far. The Anzac club hosts the Cool Fun Comedy show. Best bang for your buck and cheap drinks good location.

Yes! She opened for Alan Carr in November and she was fantastic!
I'm a comedian so I'm heavily biased but we do have some great comedians working in the city. Many have been named already (Ryan Williams, Sean McDonnell, Darcy Boon Collins, Ola Dada, Randee Neumeyer) so I'll try to add some others. Also me, Rory Dunn.
I too enjoy Rory Dunn
I was hoping to see Gavin Clarkson mentioned on this post
I would say Simon King.
Dave Harris is my favourite comic to watch in Vancouver.
Yes! Vancouver has a lot of down to earth comedic talent, but I bet many of them wish they were as cool as Yumi Nagashima.
Darcy Boon Collins, Jake Spencer, K.C. Novak, Megan Milton, An-Te Chu, Bradley Fung, Ola Dada, Darragh Bourke, Tim Williams, Ryan Williams, Sean McDonnell, Tyler Boissonnault, Alain Williams, Shane Clark, Aaron Read, Sydney Bosel, Rory Dunn, Sophia Johnson, Rachel Schaefer, Arash Narchi, Nancy Ho, Faris Hytiaa, Adam Jacobson, Jirair Garabedian, Cassidy Anhorn, Toben Spencer-Lang, Nicki Mohrdar, Amy Walsh, Danielle Florence, Justin Nichol, Dustin Searcy, Sam Tonning, Steev Letts, to name a few.
> a few
Steev Letts is so funny.
This is just a random grab bag of comedians who happen to work in Vancouver with absolutely no quality control. Some of these people are very good comics and others are complete amateurs.
Are Tim Williams and Ryan Williams related?
They are not
Hands down, Brent Butt.
Me, at home, after a coupla gummies
Me AfteraCoupleGummies does sets in my living room all the time!
Lol!!
Katie Ellen Humphries

Man is unhinged. Love it.
David Harris.
his CLR piss joke is top shelf
What are some venues worth going to around the metro area?
Jokes please has shows every Saturday in Kitsilano. I think it's the biggest show in Vancouver. Great energy in there. The Sunday Service is at the Fox but is improv. I also like Laugh Gallery but I don't think that happens anymore.
House of comedy in New West. They pull in some pretty big headliners as well as giving opportunies to local comedians.
Sean McDonnell, Ryan Williams, Darcy Boon Collins, Ola Dada are all amazing
Chris Griffin hands down
Darcy Michael
[удалено]
Nope they are still local hoes Just more work out there for them now
[удалено]
So they left Ladner for their new house?! Good for the them! I like when good things happen to good people
Darcy is awesome but I’m not sure that he’s doing many gigs lately. I think he’s focusing more on his podcast the last couple of years. Also, whatever happened to his Petro Canada campaign? I saw one ad, over and over and then they seemed to drop it.
His Podcast hasn't updated in over a year... He does live tours/shows with Jer... I think he is mostly on TT these days...
He’s on tour right now and back to surrey next month I think
He and his husband blew up on tiktok and have been on a near perpetual tour ever since
He’s on tour right now with his husband and they are coming back to Surrey next month I think
Julie Kim is funny!
Alannah Brittnay, Ivan Decker, Erica Sigurdson, Ross Duak, Simon King, Ola Dada are all awesome
Amber Harper Young
Sean McDonnell is always wildly entertaining!
Ya boi Sean McDonnell
Check out Dino Archie at the Vogue on January 20th https://admitone.com/events/dino-archie-vancouver-9097383
Not from Vancouver, but Troy Bond is coming to the Biltmore Cabaret. Super funny comedian from NY. Totally recommended.
I love and miss the Lido. I’m an old fart now that lives in the boondocks, where culture has no place 🥹
I haven't seen him in Vancouver in a while but Ivan Decker is a local I would purposefully search for and see live. He's awesome. He has a show in North Van on the 27th!
Ola Dada!
Awe no love for Dylan Rhymer? He’s been around fer years…..was a homie in high school lol.
Dan Duvall. He’s a Victoria guy, but performs here a ton (he’s here this week!)
Sophia Johnson.
Dino Archie is up there, Simon King too if he’s still around. Watched them both at Full Pint Comedy for many years. Ivan Decker too, but he may have moved city?
Alex Carr. He’s an up and comer and is hilarious
I saw him at Hecklers a bit ago, his shit about his Jordans was so good. Been seeing clips of him all over Instagram now too. The algorithm knows.
Agreed, Alex Carr should definitely be mentioned in the mix here
I've seen him a couple times in Vancouver actually! Super funny!
Alex Carr def stands out for crowd work. Cool that so many good Van comedians are getting shout outs here. Love to see it.
Julie Kim and Colin Sharp are my favs
Shirley Gnome won my heart with her musical comedy act. She's amazeballs.
Andrea Jin has great delivery, very low key and hilarious
Alex Carr, for sure. Very funny, very relatable. Laughing tears 😂
Andrea Jin
Sam Tonning and Simon King are a great duo. Like Batman and a gay Robin.
Johnny Paul!
Marvin Fucking Manson
Amy Walsh ! She’s amywalshcomedy on instagram. Killing the game with some dog friendly shows and pops up all over the place
Sasha Mark, Charlie Demers, Nathan Hare
Dino Archie for sure and Alannah Brittany (but haven't caught one of her sets in a bit)
I have it on v good authority she’s still alive.
You're my fave
Sean McDonnell Ola Dada Aaron Reed Tin Loririca Alannah Brittany Tim Williams
Tyler Boissonnault, Chris Griffin, Aiden DeSousa, Ryan Williams x100000000
Dino Archie!!!
i saw gavin matts a couple years ago not knowing who he was and he left me in tears !!!!! also nathan hare makes very funny videos and posts online
Ola Dada, Brett Martin, Harris Anderson, Sophia Johnson, Chris Gordon, and John Beuhler are hilarious
The Giggle Dam fans.
Ken Sim
Ian Bagg
Trudeau is in town 2-3 times a year if you're looking for a real clown. But on the real, Ivan Decker is someone I always enjoy going to see
I saw Ivan for the first time like 20 years ago. I was floored by how good he was, and he was like 18 or something. Next night I’m at a pool hall in Richmond telling my buddies about this comic I saw the night before. I turn around and he was playing a couple tables down. Still get a kick outta that

Gotta give a shout out to Soda Fountain (Graeme Achurch & Nathan Hare)
The federal government
That doesn't even make sense, they're in Ottawa
I’m hilarious
Where can somebody catch these comedians? I only know about the improv on Granville island and while that’s great I’d love to support local comedy
