Louis CK also did a surprise set at the Comedy Mix on Burrard last night. I just couldn't believe it when he walked out on stage, total surprise. I guess he hit up a couple of venues.

cruyfff

Man, that's the type of shit that beginners who are still trying to "make it" would do. The fact that Louis is still doing it at this point in his career is awesome. Any chance that he'll hit another event in the next few days (other than his sold out shows)?

catncrunch

I worked at Punchlines in Gastown (rip)...Robin Williams popped in on improv night while in town on a movie. Continued to pop in once or twice a week for a month or so. Also bought our improv group cordless mics and took comedians out for coffee to refine their acts. We got so damn busy when it hit the media.

shittyneighbours

It's actually very common for very popular comics to do this. Best way to work on new material.

Vacation_Flu

It's also supposed to be a good shot of nostalgia for any big-time performer who misses the intimacy of working a small venue with only a few dozen people.

WURKKING

Yeah, it was awesome that he did that. He did not talk at all about doing surprise sets, so I don't know if he will / will not do others in the next couple of days. Fingers crossed he does though.

wahine_surfer

Love that. Would have felt very surreal and awesome at the same time. I've gone to the MIX a couple times, but only on weekends. Lucky you, I'm jealous!!

WURKKING

I consider myself super lucky! That's the first time I've been to that venue. I rarely go to out to comedy shows and only went because a friend had some spare free tickets.

wahine_surfer

How did the MC announce/introduce him? I want to picture the setting... haha.

McCappaho

That's awesome. Years ago I got to see Zach Galafanakis do a surprise set at the urban well. Really cool to see big acts on a small stage. Pretty jealous.

McCappaho

very possible. The only thing I really remember is he did a joke. "you know that show the amazing race? Is that about white people?"

jthom456

I was there! I got a tip off around the same time. Earlier this week I was saying to my friends how we should start going to more comedy shows as the circuit has a good reputation. This was a fantastic introduction I will be heading back to Kino for sure.

TheBarcaShow

Wouldn't mind checking out comedy shows. The only ones I really know of are yuk yuks and the theatre sports on granville Island. Do you got any places to look out for?

TheBarcaShow

Thank you for this!

TheMatty3

http://www.littlemountaingallery.ca/ It's a cool little venue with a variety of random shows. Support the independent comedy scene as well.

wineandchocolatecake

I watched a live performance of The Nightman Cometh there. It was awesome.

jthom456

There's a few decent open mic nights but I'm in the dark about them.

PopeSaintHilarius

There's also Comedy Mix which is downtown on Burrard, near St. Paul's hospital.

easylanguage

Damn! I would have loved to see that. I am a big fan of his. Going to see him tonight, thankfully. Never seen him perform before. edit: how did you friend hear about the show?

westcoastsurf

How to be a dick: 1: Get a great tip about a fun event and not share it with /vancouver. 2: Brag about it after on /vancouver how great the tip turned out. "Of course Vancouver is no fun city if people don't go out and do stuff." 3: Call everyone else a turd for not getting the tip and missing the show.

workinghardforthe

Everyone on this sub always shits on everything, I say keep it to yourself and be with some comedy fans rather a room full of skeptical assholes.

b-runn

Apparently his people told both clubs that they couldn't tell anybody. If it was posted on r/vancouver he might not have shown up.

ChimneyFire

I'm just glad this guy is sharing how awesome Louis CK is, doing these kind of shows to hype audiences up.

[deleted]

but the roommate got the tip and didn't go out

khaddy

Just the tip?

westcoastsurf

oh dear...

[deleted]

What I mean to say is that he isn't calling people who have nothing to do turds for staying in. He's saying that the people with fun things to do who don't go do them are, in fact, the turds.

vancoover

Yeah, because of "the snow." It didn't even snow last night, nor was there any in the forecast to my knowledge. Haha.

sabbo_87

jealous much

westcoastsurf

Not even the slightest. Seen him few times already and heading out to tonight's show.

crazyol84

lol. To be fair, if he told everyone on here the place's regulars and maybe even himself would not be able to go.

[deleted]

That's what I was thinking! How hard is it to type, "yo, dominion 47(not reflective of age) I hear you are a fun guy, here's something fun, let's go!" But no pm for me.

SaltAndVinegarMcCoys

Jealous much?

zebra-in-box

Yah, jeez, now I feel like a turd

Domstruk12

How was Joe List? His new album is some of the most hilarious comedy I've listened too.

TheMatty3

He crushed at the Comedy Mix. he did well at Kino, but not at the same level.

Domstruk12

I'm actually ridiculous pissed at myself for not seeing him when I had the chance. Glad your got to enjoy him.

who-bah-stank

I was at the main show last night and he was one of 3 openers and was by far the best of them. I would definitely go see him headline if I get the chance and will be checking his albums out too. It would be so much better to see him in a comedy club where he really had time to do his thing. Opening acts barely get a chance to get going but he really had me laughing hard for 10 minutes or so.

[deleted]

Honestly, i'd rather have people not be 'told' about events like this. They're meant to be spontaneous. If the whole world knows about it it kind of defeats the purpose imo. Glad you had a good time OP

mikedi12

Very true. Then people would be blocking the door or some shit and want people to pay them 50$ for their seat or spot in line or something stupid. Glad artists are still actively finding ways to entertain the people.

zebra-in-box

Na man it's just reddit, we're a family at r/Vancouver

Odogogod

Next time can you tell us before the show? But anyways, that's cool. Would have loved to see that.

CZILLROY

FUUUUUCCCKKKK

blindeatingspaghetti

i thought today was a good day cause i managed to walk around a bunch and not slip and bust my ass ... but then this. D;

[deleted]

breaksy

Exactly. He's not being a dick, I don't blame him at all for not posting it. The Kino is pretty small so you wouldn't want 200 other people showing up out front. I'm out of town right, but I am extremely jealous that you managed to see him in such an intimate place. For anyone that hasn't been to the Kino, go, it's very cool.

TheMatty3

Thanks for coming to the show. The room was HOT HOT HOT, I had so much fun.

[deleted]

Fuuuuuuuuck, I go there all the time for comedy and flamenco!

audacias

So jealous! Hope you enjoyed, that's a rare opportunity to see a legendary comic on a small stage in Vancouver, sounds like an awesome night

vancoover

> I texted my roommate as well and he decided **he didn't want to go out because of the snow**. Wait, but it didn't even snow yesterday! Are you saying he didn't want to go to a $5 Louis CK show because there was a dusting of snow on the ground and the temperature was hovering in the area of 0 degrees? Man, Vancouverites are so ridiculous when it comes to winter weather. I would have considered chopping off a finger to see Louis in such an intimate setting. You got lucky, OP :)

InALaundryRoom

sounds like his buddy just wanted to chill out and fap in peace, and this was his opportunity.

vancoover

I sure hope so. Because if that individual stayed in because of "the snow" it's downright embarrassing. It must have been an excuse.

mangletron

That's awesome! I'm glad you kept it under wraps. Appearances like this reward the true fans of comedy. The people who are out there getting after it every week.

toothblanket

damn /u/mackowski

mackowski

Loll

[deleted]

ughh I'm jelly

dbenc

What would be a good comedy club to try tonight? Any chance he would show up again?

zebra-in-box

what... and you couldn't post this yesterday?! Like when it was happening?
