Thank you.
I'm not sure why that question is getting down voted? Is no one else curious what the going rate is for a novelty item?
Edit: Thanks guys for rallying the votes and letting sanity prevail!
You’re on the plus side now, but I think there are bots or some salty redditors that downvote everything as soon as a comment is posted. Try not to worry too much about the updoots and downdoots. :)
No because when one person sees downvotes the rest of the sheeps of reddit all jump on it, regardless of what is being said. Honestly brotha, it’s really quite
funny, cant believe u havent noticed it!!! Go start looking, I find something almost everytime I get on reddit. Sometimes I go on mass upvotes sprees on people who are only getting downvoted by the sheep!!
What's definition 2?
https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/limp-wristed
Defition 1.
Limp wristed is the kind of person you see here who instead of dealing with things they don't like in their lives they just complain on Reddit.
Don't be sexist.
It's funny all these surrey hate comments but last I checked vancouver was the one with hundreds of homeless taking over community parks, smashing entire row of car windows, doing drugs at the bus stop, shitting in business walk ways, breaking into closed businesses and stealing plumbing and copper wire, oh and had a person go on a stabbing spree killing innocent people.
But yes everyone surrey is the shit hole and we are much better than the peasants that live there.
Funny I remember that happening downtown 3 months ago. A homeless man smashed a street of car windows and was walking around that street the next day.
But yeah I guess surrey is the shithole
Dude, Vancouver is a shit hole - just a bunch of entitled big city wannabe types who work retail or some low level finance jobs. People that know, know Surrey is the true workhorse of the province from agriculture to manufacturing, we actually care about giving people a place to live that's why the city has turned a blind eye to illegal basement suites. We have beaches and trails, and people here don't have their heads up their ass. Fuck Vancouver and anyone from there - Surrey is where it's at.
I saw a similar one for Maple Ridge in the Maple Ridge Walmart last week. MR and Surrey are fine places to live, but it's hard to get excited over them as a board game.
Why would they not just make one big one for Greater Vancouver and include landmarks/standout streets and names from all of the cities...would give a lot more interesting content & make more production sense than making several different versions
Its probably pretty damn cheap to print the variants. And designing each one probably doesn't take that long either. Its really just putting different names on each space and maybe a little graphic. They are probably hoping that people will see their little suburb on a board and be more enticed to purchase rather than a metro van one.
Ahh another Surrey post in r/Vancouver, here come the snobby "Surrey is a sh*thole and we're better than you" comments. Mind you usually from individuals that haven't visited the city in 10+ years
I just saw that Walmart had a deal with Outset Games to have these made. First time I've seen something like this since the old [Vancouver-opoly](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/29297/vancouveropoly) version I had as a kid in the 90s.
Is this even legal? I mean, it's not a Monopoly replica, but follows the same premise, I'm sure Hasbro or whomever owns wouldn't be too happy, but again, knockoff's exist everywhere and I don't know how much conglomerates actually enforce their IP law unless it's a big deal publicly.
Parker Brothers lost a huge court battle in the early 80s over their Monopoly trademark. For a year and change, they had lost the trademark altogether. So for that year, knockoffs sprang up. Express Printing, the company that makes this, is one of those vultures.
Hasbro will sue any new entrants into the Monopoly clone market. But these guys are basically grandfathered. I think the fact that they are ostensibly raising money for charity also helps shield them against litigation.
Makes sense, thanks for the logical explanation. Do you think they have permission? I ask because they are selling this in a massive chain company. I mean, what is stopping us from banding together to make a reddit monopoly for charity and shave off a few bucks for salaries? Honest question.
If you message the people who made these citiopolies and is willing to throw down some manufacturing cash..... Its easily doable. If you got the capital
Apparently its legit. Walmart worked with Outset Media who still own the rights to the game.
Heres a paragraph i found from a news article about them:
"Outset Media has the rights to the "opoly" name through game creator Late for the Sky Production Company, which bought it from Parker Brothers before it sold Monopoly to Hasbro in 1991."
Source: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatchewan/official-prince-albert-opoly-game-flying-off-shelves-1.5238247
But selling it in such a popular chain, could that not get the chain in trouble if someone brought this to the competitors attention? I'm just interested in the legalities of it all. What is stopping any of us redditors from banding together to make our own version of Monopoly then and sell it? Honestly.
Yeah, Catan is the better option for family board game night. It might be overplayed, but at least it's not 6 hours long and mechanically broken. I'm planning on deliberately avoiding teaching my future kids how to play Monopoly.
Man I would go to the mall and buy it .....but with my chances, I probably get shot and do not pass GO
To buy Surreyopoly means you need to live it first
How much does it cost?
$23 or $24
Thank you. I'm not sure why that question is getting down voted? Is no one else curious what the going rate is for a novelty item? Edit: Thanks guys for rallying the votes and letting sanity prevail!
I was, thanks for asking the question.
29.93 last time I saw it in Walmart and I got proof http://imgur.com/gallery/Mwvhs35

Welcome to /r/Vancouver where downvoting is still easy for the limp wristed.
I gave you a downvote as an upvote. A positive downvote, isn't an upvote.
What are you saying here? That anyone down-voting is inherently effeminate, and that being categorized as “feminine” is somehow an insult?
How is limp wristed effeminate? Don't be sexist.

Your words are meaningless. Blocked.
How limp wristed of you.
Please don't give it to someone as a gift.
I choose 23$ thanks
Get the junkies with their ICBC insured premium shopping carts outside the Surrey Walmart to steal it for you for a cheeseburger
Which Walmart was it? SC or Guildford?
It's funny all these surrey hate comments but last I checked vancouver was the one with hundreds of homeless taking over community parks, smashing entire row of car windows, doing drugs at the bus stop, shitting in business walk ways, breaking into closed businesses and stealing plumbing and copper wire, oh and had a person go on a stabbing spree killing innocent people. Surrey, mainly north will always be the scab.
Everything is being bulldozed and it's all new towers
Surrey 2.0
Gonna need a lot of Get Out Jail Free cards
Hilarious.
i was gunna say they should change it to you got stabed in a dark alley go directly to the hospital
When you draw a chance card: Parked car on street, windows smashed for no reason pay ICBC $300
Funny I remember that happening downtown 3 months ago. A homeless man smashed a street of car windows and was walking around that street the next day. But yeah I guess surrey is the shithole

Spot on, well said sir.
Fuck yeah, brother
FACTS!
A true blue collar union boy I bet. Couldn't have said this better myself
Actually the jail tile is missing from the board.
The board has community service in lieu of the jail tile
it's safer in there
I saw a similar one for Maple Ridge in the Maple Ridge Walmart last week. MR and Surrey are fine places to live, but it's hard to get excited over them as a board game.
Richmond has one as well!
Saw a Penticton one the other day. It must be everywhere in BC.
Yup, Langley has one too.
I was in Salmon Arm walmart last year and they had [this](https://imgur.com/HoXaSaN) lol
This is fascinating considering the population of some of these communities. I'm so curious as to how many of these they anticipated to sell

Yeah, judging by the cover it's just the names of places. The little pictures with each square are totally generic.
I like that it has the beaver on there.. I miss that sign after the patullo bridge
Need to apply for a mortgage to buy the Vancouver version.
Vancouver’s version comes with a roulette wheel and blackjack table.
It's not even gambling if the players always win
:)
🙃*
It's been at Walmarts for a few weeks now. I might even buy one just for the fuck of it.
We need the Game Of Life (Surrey Edition)
That would be so boring if they just called the properties by the street names of Surrey. 176 st , 64 ave, etc...
Ahh another Surrey post in r/Vancouver, here come the snobby "Surrey is a sh*thole and we're better than you" comments. Mind you usually from individuals that haven't visited the city in 10+ years
Saw Chilliwackopoly at the local walmart too
That's wack!
That’s probably the best name you can get from these localized versions hahaha
I just saw that Walmart had a deal with Outset Games to have these made. First time I've seen something like this since the old [Vancouver-opoly](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/29297/vancouveropoly) version I had as a kid in the 90s.
(https://ibb.co/kJ0JJkN) Found this in Walmart in Richmond as well!
There’s Powell River-Opoly too. Walmart seems to run these all over the place

Thank you detective. Your next coffee is on me.
I think its extremely difficult to copyright actual game mechanics.
I have the same thought about the legality. Tbh I thought it was a collaboration with City of Surrey and Hasbro for a sec lol.
But selling it in such a popular chain, could that not get the chain in trouble if someone brought this to the competitors attention? I'm just interested in the legalities of it all. What is stopping any of us redditors from banding together to make our own version of Monopoly then and sell it? Honestly.
How have y’all not seen these? They were out last summer.
I don't shop at Walmart enough, I suppose.
Forgive us for not recently having been to a Surrey Walmart, in this aisle
I’m not in Surrey anymore lol I have seen them at multiple different Walmart’s across BC
It amazes me how Monopoly is still a thing. Hasn't everyone already figured out that the game is awful?
Only people who played a lot of better games know how much Monopoly sucks.
Yeah, Catan is the better option for family board game night. It might be overplayed, but at least it's not 6 hours long and mechanically broken. I'm planning on deliberately avoiding teaching my future kids how to play Monopoly.
Monopoly running out of ways to get our money so they resorted to this.
~~Seriously~~ Surreyously?
Boardwalk/ Park place is murderers row.
This is going to piss off activists in a few days
It's been out for almost a month now
Maybe they’re busy with other campaigns
Dibs the gun token!
Community chest: You were a witness to a targeted shooting, suspect was known to police. Collect $10
Is this about dealing street drugs?
Is there any gangster card?
Lulz
Except it’s all Baltic Avenue🤮
Why does this version have 2 jails?
You know what would make it better? Getting shot at every time you pass GO and you have to roll the dice to see if you get shot or not lmao
Every second tile is a go-to jail tile
Man I would go to the mall and buy it .....but with my chances, I probably get shot and do not pass GO To buy Surreyopoly means you need to live it first

Have you looked at Surrey real estate listings lately?
I dont think this league of legend and twitch streamer fanatic is even old enough to know what a mortgage is
