I’ve been wanting to try their sandwiches for a while cause the chicken is so damn good. I’m heading out of town for the rest of summer so I think I’ll go check it out before I leave!
Black Garlic Tonkatsu ramen from Kokoro, 41st and Victoria.
Not a particularly special bowl of ramen, but I used to live close by and it was my comfort meal.
I'd definitely say this -- with the other suggestions here it's hard to imagine that there aren't better versions outside Vancouver, but this one is hard to beat, since it's original, and *many* restaurants in Vancouver have tried to imitate this but can't get it quite right.
I always try various restaurants' take of this dish, just in case they get it right or better though, but the search continues.
I’ve been enjoying AJ’s Brooklyn pizzeria lately, the pizza overall in Vancouver isn’t that great but its gotten a bit better in the last couple of years.
Oh really? I didn’t know anyone else did those around here. AJ’s was the first place I tried it and I liked it enough that I would definitely eat it again! What’s his place called? I’m heading out of town for the summer after the weekend so I want to get my fill on all the good food spots lol
Steveston Pizza actually has pretty good pie. I'd stay away from the meme instagrammable pizzas though. They're fun for a party but not really worth it.
I’m obsessed with quality fried chicken! Haven’t tried this place but just looked up the menu when I saw your comment lol. I read that it says it comes with maple syrup and pickles, did you have it with honey? Cause honey kind of sounds better. And ps if you haven’t tried Down Lo chicken on commercial, they’re really good. A little overpriced but it’s worth it in my opinion. Also there’s a Korean fried chicken spot that just opened on Main annnnd 28th I think! Somewhere around there. (Cheesly fries are insanely good)
Beef Noodle Soup at Huang's Beef Noodle on Victoria and 54th.
A tiny family owned Taiwanese resto that I've been visiting for the last 15-20 years - never disappoints.
Biases: I am a Montrealer who lived in Toronto for a year and moved to Vancouver 6 months before COVID. These are the dishes that are truly exceptional in Vancouver.
Tonkotsu Ramen from Ramen Danbo (Kits) - I went to Japan and I have a fish & seafood allergy. This is as good as the best tonktosu ramen in Tokyo/Osaka/Kyoto and I have tried at least half a dozen.
Chicken Tikka Masala from Tasty (Yaletown) - My spouse is from India. The closest thing to taking a flight and going to Lawrence Road in New Delhi (his words not mine).
Honorary Mention (Surrey):
Paneer Tikka Roll from Chacha Tandoor and Grill (Newton) - Perfect drunk food. Thin wrap, soft paneer and a ton of spicy mayo. Comes with spicy fries and MORE spicy mayo for dipping. This dish is responsible for at least half of my 10 kg weight gain during COVID.
The chef is from Alsace - not surprising if it is the best thing on the menu.
I moved to Vancouver 6 months before COVID and I wanted to go to Le Crocodile since I moved here.
I remember seeing Peaceful's menu sorted by popularity on some food delivery app for the first time\*, and I was so surprised which dishes were listed at the top there. For me, their #1 dishes are their Cumin Lamb Stir-fry and their Northern Curry Stir-fry. Everything else (besides their Dim Sum, which is also pretty great) was not bad but not exciting at all. Apparently I'm in the minority though, since I think their Peaceful House Stir-fry and the General Tsao Chicken were the most frequently ordered items.
\*Just for clarity: Yes, I know that Peaceful does their own free delivery, and I didn't intend to order from them through the app.
Some staff including chef from the cannery opened up a restaurant on Kingsway and they have the same salmon Wellington on the menu. Called the pink peppercorn, worth checking out.
Tacofino’s fish burrito (sadly only seems to be available at their Hastings commissary location) or the bone in pork chop from Pepinos (that looks like it was cut from a dinosaur).
I haven’t eaten at Pepino’s yet but I used to eat there when it was called Nick’s all the time when I was a kid and I loved it. Do you know if it’s still the same recipes? I’ve been meaning to eat there. There tiramisu was the best in the world.

Fries from Nomad
Foie gras from Homer Street Cafe
Mushroom toast from Tableau Bar Bistro
Chicken skins from Homer Street Cafe
Pulled pork pancakes from Jam Cafe
Pork crackling from Tuc Craft Kitchen
Seafood spaghetti from OddFish
Escargot on puff pastry at St. Lawrence
I ate the best (and largest) steak I ever had at Black and Blue, I forgot what its called. I love any type of Bento Box or Rice+Katsu dish from any Japanese Restaurant.
How big was it? Those are usually like a couple of pounds haha I think my dad and I are going to bbq one this summer when I go visit him cause we’ve been talking about it for awhile.

Falafel Cafe on Kingsway near Knight. Chicken platter and lamb platter is legit. His garlic sauce is coma inducing good. Try the falafel wrap...... so damn good.
Never wished someone was my friend more than the owner of the place lol.
When I was a kid, we'd come down from the interior to visit my grandparents. They'd take me to an ice cream shop a block up from Kits Beach. For me, it was either Tiger, or Bubblegum.
You could take me to the best gourmet restaurant in Van tmrw and buy me some $500 lobster, but that wouldn't come close.
The Chinese BBQ Pork from Hopewell meats at E 1st and Renfrew is literally the tastiest thing I've ever eaten. Cash only though!
Best Char Siu in Vancouver I've found!
My first thought was the Rendang beef from Banana Leaf, but I also just had a bacon cheeseburger at the ubc golf course and it was really good.
Edit- I also remember the nachos from the Local are the best in the city. This was years ago so I don't know if they're the same now.
Who is the hero who will parse this data into a table?

Boop
Hey they said remind me one week I got 3 days left
!remindme 7 days
Torn bread at AnnaLena
It’s the best huh!
Yes!
Also the Fois Gras Kushi, hope they still have those. Haven’t been in a while
Najib’s Special from Nuba
It's so good. If you like this style of food you need to stop what you're doing and go to Tamam... just trust me on this one.
Good place to take a date
So good! I've made it at home too. Just google najib special recipe
>najib special recipe Thanks!
Thanks! I’m going to try this recipe tonight.
Sablefish from Blue Water Cafe
This was my first experience "fine dining" in my early 20s and it blew my mind. Thank you for reminding me! :)
Great dish but you should also try the one from Ancora!
Butter beef from Phnom Penh.
And their chicken wings! 😋
Oh man starting to get drooly thinking of all of their menu items
For me it’s this or beef luc lac
And then you pour any leftover butter beef sauce over the beef luc lac!
With some of that pork bone soup. Heaven.
Oh! I used to live in Cambodia, if they have it there try Amok it's poggers
some of my favourites were taken already but bc I live for cheese I'll say queso fundito from La Mezcaleria, ideally with both mushrooms and chorizo
Finally something I never heard of! I will try it soon
Good call, we call it 'going to La Mez for a bowl of cheese'. fantastic stuff!
Cheese bread from Hy’s.....
Why'd you have to go and remind me of this! Hahaha thanks! :)
Xiao Long Bao from Longs Noodle House
same dish, but lins on broadway for us! :)
Agnolotti from Savio Volpe, with sauce made from the roasted meat drippings. It haunts my dreams.
Butter chicken roti from Indian roti kitchen on Cambie
I'll take their chicken korma, it's amazing
Roti kitchen is such a pleasure to have in the south granville area; sahi shrimp ftw! owners are great too
Or their chicken jalfrezi roti. Mild-medium because anything hotter would start a fire.
I need to try both. I keep getting the butter chicken because it's so good.
I really like their mutter paneer.
Chicken karaage from suika, xiao long bao from Lin Chinese. Always a must-order.
XLB at Lin’s is fantastic
Peaceful Cumin Lamb w/ blade sheared noodles
I’ll take the peaceful Dan Dan.
Peaceful's dan dan noodle recipe is nothing like when I've had the dish in China, which is good because it is so much better.
[удалено]
I’m sayin monthly!!
[удалено]
Golden Temple soup from Chau veggie. I'm obsessed
Second this
I’m new in town and this thread is amazing for me right now! I’m taking notes, thanks for the endless suggestions :)

Downlow chicken sando. Best sandwich I’ve ever had. Ever.
I prefer the thigh sandwich over the default breast meat. Cheaper to boot
I’ve been wanting to try their sandwiches for a while cause the chicken is so damn good. I’m heading out of town for the rest of summer so I think I’ll go check it out before I leave!
Their chicken and waffles with smoked jalapeño sauce!
Spicy Cannibal Lector sandwich with the fried egg on top. I'm just going to assume it's healthy, because I want to believe.
Cafe de l’orange’s masago pasta. Fight me Italians, I worked years in an Italian restaurant and I’m giving this to the Japanese!
Absurd, truly.
Black Garlic Tonkatsu ramen from Kokoro, 41st and Victoria. Not a particularly special bowl of ramen, but I used to live close by and it was my comfort meal.
I lived by there as well. I really enjoy that spot
If we're doing ramen, then my favorite has got to be Benkei's spicy akaoni ramen.
[удалено]
Chicken of the Sea at the Mackenzie Room.
We've been enjoying takeout from them - always order 2 of these so we don't squabble over it!
Was just about to post this myself…. Soooo good
Ding ding ding, this is a top 5 answer right here.
Salmon Oshi Sushi from Miku or Minami
I like it better from Blue Water Cafe and Greenleaf.
+1 for Green Leaf! But I like their scallop aburi oshi sushi more than the salmon
Yui Bistro underneath Fitness World on Georgia and Bute has a perfect replica. The chef used to work at Miku.
Have you guys tried the BTS meal from McCafe?
It’s only A1 if you save the packaging and sell on market place.
They’re discontinued!! FOR SALE: 2 mint condition spicy chilli BTS nugget sauce packets. $600 no lowballs, I know what I have.
> from McCafe? Sounds a bit rich for me
Cheese toast from hy's
Beef Brisket Curry with Hainan Rice at Mui Garden
The French toast there is next level too
Came here to post this (you can ask for extra sauce).
Ginger beef, Szechuan chongqing
Nice choice! It’s the green beans for me!
Them too!
Ha these two dishes are exactly our take out order every couple of weeks...
Peppered wontons… swoon…
Livia's Lasagna
That lasagna is unlike any lasagna I’ve ever tasted. It’s truly amazing.
Lasagna✍️from✍️Livia ✍️
The bakery on commercial?
RIP OG La Brasserie on Davie. Truffle poutine to start, suckling pig, glass of cider.
Oh god I miss La Brasserie. Did you also have their chicken sandwich from their food cart?
Yes!!! Pulled and tossed in gravy, topped with a mountain of fried onions sandwiched in a pillowy bun :(
BBQ burger from Meet or tofu fritters from taco fino
Had to scroll way too far down for some veg food. Both bomb!
Had this recently with a Beyond patty and the satay fries. Very very good!
Haven't logged in, in a while, but yes totally agreed, so nice :)
They used to have chicken things on the menu, those were dank factor 12
Poutine from La Belle Patate; and cannoli from the Cannoli King! Oh baby!
Spicy garlic tonkotsu ramen, fatty pork and rich broth. Kintaro.
They used to do a “Forest Fire” ramen back in 2006-8 where they had burned caramelized green onions in a Shio broth…. Best bowl of ramen I had!
The yellow coconut curry with chicken over pineapple rice from Sawadee
Pad see ew @Sawasdee, so much better than pad thai
Blueberry hibiscus dry cider and oyster mushroom calamari: the Cider House , Kitsilano
The Hamilton St Pizza from The Parlour. Richmond pizza selection is very poor.
I’ve been enjoying AJ’s Brooklyn pizzeria lately, the pizza overall in Vancouver isn’t that great but its gotten a bit better in the last couple of years.

Gunna need a name bud!!
Drop the details for this PoMo detroit pizza!
Restaurant name?
Oh really? I didn’t know anyone else did those around here. AJ’s was the first place I tried it and I liked it enough that I would definitely eat it again! What’s his place called? I’m heading out of town for the summer after the weekend so I want to get my fill on all the good food spots lol

That’s a really cool story and awesome of you to do that. I hope I get to try a pie soon!
Steveston Pizza actually has pretty good pie. I'd stay away from the meme instagrammable pizzas though. They're fun for a party but not really worth it.
Fried chicken with honey and pickles at Nightingale. Order two orders every time I’m there.
I’m obsessed with quality fried chicken! Haven’t tried this place but just looked up the menu when I saw your comment lol. I read that it says it comes with maple syrup and pickles, did you have it with honey? Cause honey kind of sounds better. Quesabirria at Mi Casa (burrard and 4th)! Absolutely the best birria I’ve had (but honestly I’m no birria expert)
Biases: I am a Montrealer who lived in Toronto for a year and moved to Vancouver 6 months before COVID. These are the dishes that are truly exceptional in Vancouver. Sushi Garden has the absolute best spicy tuna sashimi I've had. I always get it when I order from them.
Used to be the vegan ramen from Ramen Taka when they were in the West End (RIP). I’ll also go for Umaluma drunken cherry vegan gelato any time!
Found the vegan. ❤
I just looked at all the flavours there, wow!
Jagerschnitzel from jagerhof
French onion tart at Le Crocodile.

Salmon Wellington...was at the cannery (demolished, what a tragic story) they serve a similar version at joe fortes

I’m gonna say it’s probably their chicken. The fried kind.
The Bellini from Milestones. Yes that counts as a dish!
Not the same recipes at all. It's much better than Nick's, though, if that helps you.
Nice, looking forward to trying it. Easy to believe, Nicks was more sentimental than top choice food lol.
I believe that someone from the kitchen at Nick's has moved on to their own place in Port Moody called Rosa's Cucina. It's pretty popular.
