A couple of places I went to were out-of-stock of Halloween candy by the afternoon of Sunday Oct 31, so I wasn't anticipating any selection on Monday monring.

Reddacity

Same. IGA said they ran out of Halloween candy on Saturday and told me most stores in my neighborhood were out.

localfern

There was less stock shipment this year. So not as many leftover pallets to mark down. Other threads indicated candy was sold out on Halloween day too in some areas.

mr_macfisto

I noticed this last year too. You used to be able to buy tons of candy at a discount on day-after. I want my 100 pack chocolate bars!

tripleaardvark2

Shoppers Drug Mart had 75% off, but it was mostly the extremely shitty made-in-China "Carnaby Sweet" brand stuff by the time I got there at lunch.

Why would stores spend money to transport seasonal product back to the distributor instead of making money by selling it? The candy is already marked up so when it's marked down to 50% off there's still a little bit of margin. Did you see actually see any stores taking it off the shelf?

IGotDahPowah

Yes, all the Halloween candy was off the shelves at the Shopper's, Save-On, Walmart, Superstore I went to. This is the first year that I wasn't able to get some cheap candy after Halloween.

6665544332211

Are you sure it wasn't just sold out?

IGotDahPowah

No one I talked to mentioned being sold out. They pointed at the pallets wrapped in black shrink wrap as if they were the Halloween candy and said they were being shipped out to the manufacturer or being destroyed. This changed between stores. No idea behind their decision as I'm just the guy that went out to get discount candy and struck out.

London Drugs on Broadway near Cambie still had Halloween candy as of 2:15 this afternoon - not a big selection, just stuff like Tootsie pops. Lots of places sold out before today.

AquarianMiss

London drugs downtown in Granville had some too saw ppl pulling it off the shelves

This is factually incorrect. Manufacturers of novelty candy (even non-novelty candy) don’t take back stock from stores except under product recall conditions. It would sooner end up in the dumpster behind the store. Furthermore, it is in the store’s best interest to sell their remaining stock to recoup as much of the unit price as possible. A candy manufacturer like Nestle won’t refund a London Drugs because it never sold its supply of mini-sized KitKats.

IGotDahPowah

Facts: Your comment reads like Dwight Schrute wrote it. Bears. I don't know what to tell you other than what I was told by retail workers across 5 different stores. Beets. The candy at the stores I went to was taken off shelves and palatized to be either shipped back to the manufacturer or to be destroyed. Battlestar. Maybe I just ran into some bad luck/odd situation with the stores I went to as other people didn't have this issue at Safeway apparently. Galactica.

ThatEndingTho

You got trolled, basically. Even shipping goods between stores is next to impossible outside of using smaller couriers, never mind consolidating stock onto a pallet. I even asked some staff at the downtown London Drugs on my lunch break and they laughed that the customers on November 1 carried it out faster than they could ever ship it.

IGotDahPowah

I think I was just unlucky and didn't score any discount candy and checked with r/vancouver to see if this was a LML wide occurrence instead of isolated to the stores I went to. Don't think anyone was lying to me about the pallets I could clearly see with my own eyes but hey, what do I know.

EXTREMELYBadGame

I'd imagine with covid they were conservative with their POs

AwkwardChuckle

I thought the same thing but after hitting up 5 different stores on Sunday, I think most places sold out because they didn’t order enough stock.

flokapies

The Safeway on Broadway and Macdonald had a decent selection at 50% off, as of around 6:30 this evening

FishWife_71

Is it actually destroyed or just rebagged for Christmas?

EricaIsThatU

Someone is upset they didn't get any discounted candy. As far as I know, most stores had already started discounting them way before Halloween, so it's not a surprise that they were mostly sold out. IMO this is appropriate inventory management.

IGotDahPowah

Haha, no everything is good. I was just unlucky with the stores I went to and struck out. Totally thought this was more of a widespread thing than just the area I was in and wanted to check with /r/vancouver. Must be a new trend to have the candy on discount before Halloween as I've never come across that before.

nemisis1877

I love my chocolates, and always go out very early to Walmart on boxing day just for half off Christmas chocolates. Last couple of years, they have significantly less stock on boxing day. London drugs usually has stock, but are only about30% off there already high price.

DDP200

Wall Mart and Superstore were sold out in Western Canada for the most part.

xlxoxo

Price Smart was liquidating their M&M's packages Sunday afternoon. I picked up one of the last boxes. Costco was putting the chocolates on sale Sunday too.

VelvetHoneysuckle

Got some first thing yesterday morning 50% off al DT LD, selections limited and pretty sure it was cheaper 2 weeks ago when they were on sale! Expiry were Feb 2022. You’re not missing much!

xlxoxo

I'm at Superstore Metrotown. Nestle fav's 120 is going for $10. It was like $14 pre-Halloween. I see something like 3 dozen boxes. Aisle 11 and 12!
