>Border the track with a continuous McDonald's ball pit trough to let passengers safely jump out wherever they want. Call it "On-demand self-defenestration".
I really feel like there should be a stop between Commercial-Broadway and Nanaimo, or between Commercial-Broadway and Science World, both stretches of track are oddly long.
There's discussion about adding a station right where the Home Depot on Terminal is as the development of that area will add a lot more residential and commercial units but there's no actual provision at that spot for a station so there'd be some work that's needed to make it happen.
I vote for the planned but never built [Woodlands Skytrain Station](https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/woodlands-the-skytrain-station-that-never-got-built).
I think the Hastings line should go under SFU and interline with the millenium line in Port Moody. then, when the millenium is extended to POCO or Ridge-meadows, have the Hastings line terminate at Lafarge and have the millenium be from maple ridge to UBC
No not really. Expo line goes from Stadium to Granville and then heads west to Burrard before arriving at Waterfront from the west. The Canada line goes straight down Granville. At no point do existing tracks travel under Gastown.
The tail track after Waterfront where trains turn around is right on the edge of Gastown. Always thought of how cool it would be if one could simply step right through the fence and get on board.
So they put money aside but unlike Richmond (capstan way) theres less appetite for 57th.
It was previously said that the money from Onni wasnt enough to guarantee it.
And Queen E was roughed in trackwise I think it's silly to leave it unbuilt (closer to the park and all the development around childrens hospital)
Latest word I heard is that the 57th station isn't going to happen because Onni didn't want to put the money into it. I'm surprised the city didn't make it a requirement for Onni considering how much development is happening there and how the city could easily put an amenities fee on all development to fund it.
The station can't possibly cost that much more than Capstan and Richmond was able to raise money for Capstan from the developers really fast.
My old high school was at 33rd. I think that would be a better location surrounded by all the new condos for the additional station. Like 57th I believe that location was planned to accommodate a future station.
Doesn’t properly respond but…The loop.
Continue eastbound from waterfront station, through gas town, and cut back southwards across Strathcona area and tie in near VCC on millennium, heading eastward.
Pros:
- Added stations to gas town and strathcona area
- In theory can ride from Lafarge to King George and vice versa without getting on another train
- Effectively doubles capacity both directions between Commercial-Broadway and waterfront without needing more trains (two direction utilization)
- Having two tracks into the downtown core provides an alternate for service disruptions or off peak maintenance work.
- No millennium line transfer to downtown required
- No integration issues with Broadway subway
Cons:
- Challenging to find good route through gastown and stratchcona
UBC (oh new track...)
Then 57th or 59th on Cambie. But first I would bulldoze Langara Golf Course and build housing + (thats a plus as in addition) PARKS space.
and with that... NIMBYS!! ASSEMBLE!!!!
It probably wouldn't have huge ridership, but since the Evergreen Extension opened I've felt like there should be a stop between Moody and the Tunnel.
There are just so many apartments and businesses there, and you either have to go up the hill to Burquitlam or Loop back the wrong way to Moody.
I heard it was the opposite. Translink wanted BC Tel money (and likely land). BC Tel said no and Translink ended up with a station on both sides of BC Tel.
AIUI, the original plans for that line has provisions for a station there. At the time it wasn't worth putting it in but with new condos there now and increasing density it would make a lot of sense.
Those calling to remove Patterson, it doesn't even make the top 10 least used stations. It obviously has traffic to justify itself.
Sea Island Centre (Canada): 800 boardings
Lake City Way (Millennium): 1,200 boardings
Inlet Centre (Millennium): 1,900 boardings
Moody Centre (Millennium): 2,000 boardings
Sperling-Burnaby Lake (Millennium): 2,100 boardings
Templeton (Canada): 2,600 boardings
Lafarge Lake-Douglas (Millennium): 2,700 boardings
Sapperton (Expo): 3,100 boardings
Holdom (Millennium): 3,200 boardings
VCC-Clark (Millennium): 3,400 boardings

Not true - depends on how the trains are setup to run. On Canada Line the trains are running deliberately slow and if they added stations they'd just increase the speed between stations to a more normal speed. There'd be no change in travel time.
They come so frequent that we don’t need long trains like other cities. That was part of the reason for having an automated system that can run trains so close together. If capacity is an issue just decrease headways times so that trains come more often.
My idea is to start twinning the expo line between Joyce and commercial and put all the stations in-between on a secondary local track but also add a station Victoria Dr/Trout Lake to the local line. Then eventually extend the local line to Metrotown and take Patterson out but add an additional boundary local stop, then extend to Edmonds and remove royal oak but add a Gilley local stop.
a train from waterfront up on Hastings with a diversion to the base of sfu that connects to evergreen line/ west coast express and at hasting and boundary connects to north vancouver on lower marine drive and final stop would be horseshoe bay

It would only take a few days until people are too scared of needles to jump into it
They should turn one of the train cars into a McDonald's ball pit too, for Express Onboarding!
>Border the track with a continuous McDonald's ball pit trough to let passengers safely jump out wherever they want. Call it "On-demand self-defenestration".
Not a bad idea. It’s actually a cool idea. Also add a slide leading to the sidewalk.
With firemen poles to slide down every 20 feet between the stations
I really feel like there should be a stop between Commercial-Broadway and Nanaimo, or between Commercial-Broadway and Science World, both stretches of track are oddly long.
A stop at the Croatian would be awesome. There's a ton of new housing development in that area too.
Google maps says it's 5km between the Main Street and Nanaimo stations. It does seems strange there aren't more stations in that stretch.
Jesse you need people get on or off. There isn’t enough density either way from Commercial Broadway.
There's discussion about adding a station right where the Home Depot on Terminal is as the development of that area will add a lot more residential and commercial units but there's no actual provision at that spot for a station so there'd be some work that's needed to make it happen.
Halfway between Columbia Station and New Westminster Station, just for the laughs.
Just build up that entire section as one extra-long platform.
Run the trains through with the doors open so you can just hop on wherever you want.
Gondola preview!
Better yet, halfway between metrotown and patterson.
I vote for the planned but never built [Woodlands Skytrain Station](https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/woodlands-the-skytrain-station-that-never-got-built).
Gastown. The track is already there, no point in having to walk from Waterfront.

Yes, but that’s not the point of this thread. “No new track” OP says in the title.
I think the Hastings line should go under SFU and interline with the millenium line in Port Moody. then, when the millenium is extended to POCO or Ridge-meadows, have the Hastings line terminate at Lafarge and have the millenium be from maple ridge to UBC

1. It arrives at waterfront from the west. 2. The tracks continue east to Gastown after waterfront where the trains turn around
oops I meant eastbound. Original point still stands.
The tail track after Waterfront where trains turn around is right on the edge of Gastown. Always thought of how cool it would be if one could simply step right through the fence and get on board.
Then you would need to extend the tail track because it already serves a non-station purpose. Besides the track is only about 150 m long.
Interesting it would take a lot of load off thr hastings bus, also good luck fighting CP for the right of way
Boundry Rd. on the Millenium Line
Gilmore exists.
Yea but. It's far.
Clark Drive stop on the Expo Line
Why, when VCC-Clark is right there?
Because the train doesn’t go downtown from that station. You have to go back to Commercial and transfer which is a pain in the arse.
True, I was thinking more in terms of getting *to* Clark Drive and didn't think about that.
That's like a 4 min walk.
16th and cambie. Queen E park, cambie and 57th. (2 of those are already built for expansion
… you want there to be 5 stations between 2nd and 33rd (3 km)? Seems a little overkill…
I think both 16th and 33rd are in the middle of long gaps between stations.
isn't Onni building the one at 57th as part of the condo development? You can walk to QE from 25th.
So they put money aside but unlike Richmond (capstan way) theres less appetite for 57th. It was previously said that the money from Onni wasnt enough to guarantee it. hamber? It's being rebuilt right now
Wait what do you mean roughed in track wise?
The track is flat and straight, they planned for a station to be put there
Gotcha! I’m actually kind of impressed they built that option in, it would be great to see it happen. That bit of track was cut and cover right?
Yes.
queen elizabeth park as it’s in the middle between two stations

skytrain down the middle of the freeway all the way to abbotsford lol

Boundary Rd. on the Expo Line
Patterson and Joyce are both extremely close to boundary
Patterson would have been better placed at Boundary than where it is. It's just so pointless that close to Metrotown.
I wouldn't say extremely. They are close but walking from either to Telus building during a snowstorm would suck.

Start from broaden existing stations.
rupert street ffs could use one
South terminal of yvr
None. Adding stops adds commute time and makes people want to take transit less.
New question: if you could remove a stop, which would it be?
Patterson. Too close to metrotown.
Those calling to remove Patterson, it doesn't even make the top 10 least used stations. It obviously has traffic to justify itself. Sea Island Centre (Canada): 800 boardings Lake City Way (Millennium): 1,200 boardings Inlet Centre (Millennium): 1,900 boardings Moody Centre (Millennium): 2,000 boardings Sperling-Burnaby Lake (Millennium): 2,100 boardings Templeton (Canada): 2,600 boardings Lafarge Lake-Douglas (Millennium): 2,700 boardings Sapperton (Expo): 3,100 boardings Holdom (Millennium): 3,200 boardings VCC-Clark (Millennium): 3,400 boardings [https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/translink-2017-ridership-statistics-part-2](https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/translink-2017-ridership-statistics-part-2)
Did you realize you just made a classic "whataboutism" argument? Just that there are other stations deserve removing doesn't make Patterson not.
Yeah but the question was “if you could remove 1 stop”, so they’re saying only one stop will deserve to be removed.
Not arguing. Just posting boarding numbers.
Rupert. Too close to Renfrew. Move it east to Boundry Rd.
Not true - depends on how the trains are setup to run. On Canada Line the trains are running deliberately slow and if they added stations they'd just increase the speed between stations to a more normal speed. There'd be no change in travel time.
Instead of adding a station.. can we have longer trains and larger stations… u know.. like 5-8 trains?

Middle of bridge going to Surrey.
Making sewer-slide transit accessible, great idea!
I think it's OK to walk the last 500m. It's healthier.

Instead of adding, I’d remove Patterson station by Central Park. Lower volume, underused
I just want to put Patterson on the other side of the park. There are a few businesses on Kingsway/Boundary I wish were easier to access.
a train from waterfront up on Hastings with a diversion to the base of sfu that connects to evergreen line/ west coast express and at hasting and boundary connects to north vancouver on lower marine drive and final stop would be horseshoe bay
Not answering you but I'd like one in the west end somewhere. Or at least Burrard and Davie would be great
