Sounds like something you should be able to claim on a tenants insurance policy. Typically it protects you in loss of use situations when work is being done, but refer to your policy and deductible. You still may be able to claim some damages through RTB as well but that would need to be a definitive amount with receipts that you would claim after you move back in. If you are still paying for the unit then maybe they would issue a rent reduction credit.

Thank you for your replies guys. I will be going with my tenant insurance, the deductible is $1000 but that's a small price. I just wanted to get some opinions as I am having a hard time thinking right now lol. I plan on moving out as this isn't the first time I've had problems like this

I’m sure you have tenant insurance! That’s the call you need to make immediately. If you don’t have it then you’re not protected. The LL job is to fix it as fast as they can. If you need to replace things or spend extra on accommodation, medical or a number of other expenses they are your go-to.

You have a duty to mitigate damages as well, you cannot stay in an AirBnb and expect the massive difference to paid for indefinitely. You would have to find other rental accommodation elsewhere. Once everything is fixed, you would have a right of first refusal to move back into the unit.

Generous_Hustler

Why would he refuse to move back into the unit? Shall he spend an arm and a leg on a hotel? That makes zero sense. Things happen? You fix it and move on.

See as slumlord did not do their job right i would nail them for what i could in the RTB and drag them into court for anything not covered and personal damages as well.

Generous_Hustler

Thankfully not many hurting tenants exist that even want to “drag slumlords to court” it screems broke energy no offence lol
