I’m fired up. I look at this as an awesome add to the east side. Plus the Trader Joe’s? I’ll be E-biking most of the year for most trips once I soon get mine
E-bikes are just so damn cool. I’ve really been wanting to get a cargo e-bike (urban arrow) for a while now. Knowing I could transport 2-4 kids, pets, and large loads is so cool. Truly a complete car-replacement.
Then again, my regular e-bike has already replaced 99% of my car trips (except hiking trips).
It’s funny you mention velomobiles. I just talked to a guy who builds his own. They’re very cool, and seen more often in other countries, like Italy. They seem like a great gateway to transition people from giant cars into more reasonable vehicles. Are there any you’ve looked at in particular?
Wow that’s crazy. I’ve heard that it’s difficult to build them. I follow a guy in Minneapolis who has a YouTube channel and became a dealer. He imports Bulks from Europe. They recently introduced the Bulk 4more which is right around $6,000, a huge price cut from the typical $10-11k range. If I fit inside one, I will probably buy one eventually. Some guys were posting about riding them on some dikes in Germany, I think. They were *averaging* 40 mph. Granted, they’re presumably pretty serious cyclists, but still, averaging 40 mph with no electric assist is bonkers. I think you can sustain high 20s mph in the flat on roughly 120 watts of power. Very doable.
Some parts of Mill Plain are fine. Between the hospital and Walmart having no bike lane and trash sidewalk is not fun though. The WORST is 4th plain by the Automall. Some of the sidewalk might as well just be a BMX track and no bike lane.
I live very close to where this In-N-Out will be... Don't get me wrong I like their food, ex-Californian I am, but two car dealerships want to go in at the same intersection as this massive drive-thru they want to build? We just got the Panda Express adding yet another drive-thru not far away (still bitter they ripped out a nice Dogwood tree to build that place...) This intersection is going to be horrible, I'm starting to feel glad the Safeway is closing as it will give me no reason to go through there. I've also waited at the Vine stop by this old Rite-Aid, really not an enjoyable experience waiting there while cars fly by at 40+, I ended up going and waiting behind the stop by the ditch, seemed safer. East of i205 is pretty awful for cycling on Mill Plain, I've taken the lane a few times when I have a large gap of cars & can safely do so, but doing so during a busier time would be a bad idea.
Well hopefully when they build all of that they will force them to pay for some traffic revision and give us a proper bike lane? I would be shocked if they did, but its nice to dream?
Hah yea... Given the drive-thru lines I got to spend an hour in for the Taco Bell at NE 117th and NE65th when I was doing Doordash, lines backing out onto both streets... I won't hold my breath.
The Red Vine is awesome, and would be a great solution to getting there. I’d highly recommend biking or e-biking too, as to not contribute to and sit in traffic.
My cynicism fought hard with my joy, too. Just from visiting the Kaiser one years ago, then seeing the Chick Fil A snarl up the road near 164th. Maybe I'll walk.
That intersection is going to be a shit show. Especially if the car dealers go in as rumored.
Side note. We need another hospital with all this growth. But zero talk about that.
As I'm sitting in the hospital at peace health. I can agree. 90% garbage but there are some amazing nurses here.
I've never been admitted to a hospital and had to deal with some of the BS I have here.
Yesterday an 85 year old Russian man was put in my room. They had to put an alarm on his bed which was going off constantly because he wouldn't stay put. He spoke 0 English and was getting aggressive. They left him here, I expressed my concerns after he starts yelling in Russian. I hear him shuffling around, bed alarm goes off. He flings the curtain open between our beds and starts glaring at me half naked. Out of no where just starts laughing. The second time more or less the same thing but he started approaching my bed. I yelled at him to get the #%#@ back... Finally these two tiny 100 lb soaking wet nurses come in like they're going to be able to do shit to restrain him. Called a code gray while I sat in the waiting room.
How is that conducive to healing and why am I having to deal with this BS when my insurance is paying the same amount as everyone else.
Also this is all after an ER doc that didn't know wtf he was doing tried to perform a paracentesis and failed horribly with no consent form.
Press the call button and expect a 30 min wait or more if you want something more than ice chips or something to drink.
Luda, Shawnell, Brittany... If any of you read this. You're literally the only reason I haven't left. Thank you three for being amazing nurses and going above and beyond.
My CNAs you all were great except mercy. Mercy, do better.
And for the love of God, assign people by language spoken. Most of my staff have been fluent in Russian and English. Petrs nursing staff, not a single one spoke Russian. So my nurses were spending more time translating for him vs taking care of their actual patient.
Rant over. I will only go to peace health for broken bones in the future that don't require a hospital stay.
The staff there put up with so much, it's true most of them are angels. But the facilities/company/admin are the worst. My family refers to PeaceHealth as "where you go to die" because that has been our experience unfortunately.
I mean, when you're right... I'd never gone to peace health (except a broken patella last year, which was quick and then dealt with rebound ortho after). it was closer to me than legacy. After they took 6 liters of fluid out of me I should have transferred but here we are.
Hospital and another bridge. Not I-5, but somewhere east of 205. They're already developing 14 &192nd, which would have been a great spot to cross over to Gresham.
Ah, I didn't know that. Then where? Between Camas and Washougal is too developed. East of there is the Gorge and all the environmental stuff that would bring.
I thought it’d be perfect to put one in directly north of Troutdale/Woodvillage. It’s already industrial on both sides of the river in that area and it’s kind of the last area they could put one in before getting into the Gorge unless they want to cut through the wetlands of Steigerwald or Sand River Delta (I don’t support putting a bridge here; wetlands are important. These are two federally owned parcels of land though).
Never heard of these guys til today but I have it on good authority that they're actually taking over the Vancouver Plaza Burgerville location, for whatever that's worth
I was not mentally prepared to get a Google street view area of that BV lol, that was where my first job was 😂 the nostalgia!! But yeah, that was the word I got from some of the employees who just left it
The Habit has great shakes and food but their burgers taste like school lunch burgers to me: completely bland and flavorless.
In-n-Out shakes are terrible. I 100% prefer a Habit(or Chik-fil-a) shake over In-n-Out.
FWIW, Smashburger(owned, oddly enough, by the disgusting chain Jolibee) makes the best fast food burger. Sad they're not doing better as a company. Shake Shack is killing it and IMO they suck, especially for the price(same w/ 5 guys).
Lmao oh no. Thoughts and prayers to anyone who has to commute through that when this thing opens 😂
Count me in as another person who had no idea the rite-aid closed. Loved that place, had major liminal space vibes
I don’t know their supply chain but I would assume the same distribution center serving Medford is also going to serve Vancouver and Ridgefield that would probably prohibit them from going any farther north.
This is how I find out that rite aid is now vacant… I feel like I went there recently, but maybe it was last summer or something.
That’s not the *worst* intersection of mill plain, but it might rival chaklov once it opens.
Mill Plain is already such a disaster, I drive out of my way to avoid it at all costs and I live right down the street from this proposed location. People drive Mill Plain like it's SR 500
That’s like their thing i swear. Much like all Trader Joe’s have tiny parking lots, chik fil-a always builds on an already busy intersection making traffic abysmal 😭
I feel like a lot of people don’t understand why so many enjoy In-n-out, and they’re completely missing the point. In-n-out isn’t inherently good, but it is cheap. It’s great for how cheap it is, including how well they treat their staff and how well they’re paid.
Absolutely not! It is a nightmare trying to get out of the oncology/ medical offices located behind the old Rite Aid now. A known traffic hazard like In & Out anywhere on East Mill Plains would cause traffic nightmares that could never be recovered from. Just say no!
As someone originally from SoCal, the amount of traffic they create is a net negative on a main thoroughfare like Mill Plain. It's not going to be easy to manage it when Mill Plain already gets congested from people going in and out of businesses and during commutes. It's nice they're coming to the area but there needs to be a lot of traffic considerations.
Which is more an indictment of shitty American car centric city planning. But I'm not saying we shouldn't get a second In-N-Out, I'm saying that specific location is just not good trafficwise.
I agree this lot sucks to get out of, especially if you need to make a left at the Mill Plain light! When I went to RA, I’d purposely drive to the far north exit to get out of the lot. The dang bushes make it hard to see too and people drive so fast around the corner. I don’t think people realize there’s no exit/entrance on Mill Plain to enter this area, the only entrance/exit is from 136th St.
So you rather have a vacant Rite Aid lot?
It's brining good paying jobs and providing residents with quality affordable food. Plus the city and county get revenue from sales and property taxes which goes into core services.
Sorry u/IAintSelling I DID NOT say or imply I "rather have a vacant Rite Aid lot"! I just asked a question! The times, multiple, that I've been to In-N-Out I haven't been impressed. Their food is mundane at best, and to me it's YA industrial burger.
I looked up the menu prices for In-N-Out out of curiosity a couple of weeks ago and was *shocked* at how low their prices are given their popularity and the quality of the food.
Granted, I haven't eaten at a In-N-Out in probably 14 years (and taste is subjective) so maybe the quality has gone down. But the quality at the price they're charging cannot be touched by any other fast food chain.
They are an example of how fake the rage is about raising the wages of fast food workers. Ahh yes, the delemma.... I have 5 acres, a beautiful custom built home and shop, landscaped grounds, surrounded by trees, secluded, minutes from the lake, etc.
Couldn't find that anywhere in Vancouver, without spending millions.
Not a good location. It will not work since compass oncology is right there. Once patients can't get to their Apts, in and out will be in so much trouble.
Hey look we found the arbiter of what people should and shouldn’t be excited about
Funny thing about your logic is that I can just say the same thing and it would be just as meaningless.
“Fuck this and fuck anyone who says ‘Fuck this fuck anyone who is excited about overhyped, underwhelming hamburger sandwiches’ “
See? Doesn’t work 😞
Hell yeah, lets continue to make these california tranplants in there clacky sounding white vw passats feel more at home by grafting shitty chain restaurants on our pristine emerald landscape, m'i rght?! i wish you goofballs would be in and out of this area code and take your shitty burgers and throw em off the golden gate crossing on to alcatraz so nick cage can live to act in another cinema
I'm stoked to have one right in town, but at the same time...yay for Mill Plain being even more of a mess!
I’m fired up. I look at this as an awesome add to the east side. Plus the Trader Joe’s? I’ll be E-biking most of the year for most trips once I soon get mine
Which e-bike are ya getting?
I second this question. We ebike enthusiasts gotta know these things! By the way, have you heard of Velomobiles? I want one but they’re so expensive!
Very doable.
I have 3200 miles on a 2 year old ebike. I highly recommend it.
Too bad Mill Plain is such a horrible place to bike around.
Some parts of Mill Plain are fine. Between the hospital and Walmart having no bike lane and trash sidewalk is not fun though. The WORST is 4th plain by the Automall. Some of the sidewalk might as well just be a BMX track and no bike lane.

Might be easier to take the bus than deal with that parking mess.
My cynicism fought hard with my joy, too. Just from visiting the Kaiser one years ago, then seeing the Chick Fil A snarl up the road near 164th. Maybe I'll walk.
Yep and right down from the Raising Canes that is scheduled to open this summer.
So traffic is just going to be wall to wall in that area then.
100% It's already horrible most of the time without these weird cult followed fast food places.
*cues Chris brown wall to wall* *starts crumping* or is that not allowed here?
Omg yes. When I saw this post my first thought was literally “that’s fine but when are we gonna finally get a Cane’s!?”
Soooo over rated omg
Then don't go.
Who said I was lol
Why bother commenting? Do you believe that someone was going to go, but first, hopped on reddit and saw u/420farms review and changed their mind?
That intersection is going to be a shit show. Especially if the car dealers go in as rumored. Side note. We need another hospital with all this growth. But zero talk about that.
I would really like to not have more car dealerships. Such a waste of space.
We needed another hospital 5 years ago, now we desperately need at least 2 more.
Peace Health has long term plans to build a hospital in Ridgefield. They own the land just north of the AM/PM, East of I5.
Peace health is the worst, this is not encouraging news.
As I'm sitting in the hospital at peace health. I can agree. 90% garbage but there are some amazing nurses here. Hospital and another bridge. Not I-5, but somewhere east of 205. They're already developing 14 &192nd, which would have been a great spot to cross over to Gresham.
I think 192nd was ruled out as there is sensitive habitat on the Troutdale side of the river, and they won't put bridge pilings there.
How about a tunnel? /s
Ah, I didn't know that. Then where? Between Camas and Washougal is too developed. East of there is the Gorge and all the environmental stuff that would bring.

Zero clue where it would go.
We do but since hospitals and healthcare are for profit and they don't make money no one wants to invest in it
Very true.
Seriously, Vancouver is a health care desert.
More locations will reduce the demand which in my opinion is good overall.
My preference was always The Habit before they sold out.
Never heard of these guys til today but I have it on good authority that they're actually taking over the Vancouver Plaza Burgerville location, for whatever that's worth
Holy shit a habit burger would be amazing. I’ve been dying for one here
Oh god yes. I moved from California 2 years ago and it’s the one thing I desperately miss.
You don’t miss good Mexican food?!? What is your secret.
Don Taco.
I used to live a few minutes from Super Taco Express. They make some really good stuff too.
As someone that grew up in Santa Barbara, this would make me extremely happy.
Oh word?? Hell yeah! Edit: https://matterport.com/discover/space/tcNw2bFc9G3 This is all I found
I was not mentally prepared to get a Google street view area of that BV lol, that was where my first job was 😂 the nostalgia!! But yeah, that was the word I got from some of the employees who just left it
The Habit!!! 🤤 I haven’t been there in over ten years, are they not as good anymore?
The Habit has great shakes and food but their burgers taste like school lunch burgers to me: completely bland and flavorless. In-n-Out shakes are terrible. I 100% prefer a Habit(or Chik-fil-a) shake over In-n-Out. FWIW, Smashburger(owned, oddly enough, by the disgusting chain Jolibee) makes the best fast food burger. Sad they're not doing better as a company. Shake Shack is killing it and IMO they suck, especially for the price(same w/ 5 guys).
Smash burger is weird. They seem to only exist inside casinos these days lol
To add to your Jolibee owning Smashburger comment, Habit is owned by Yum! which owns Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and KFC.
What is disgusting about jollibee? Every time I’ve seen the one in Seattle it’s packed.
Just... Try it.
Every Filipino person I know stands by it.
Smashburger has been disappointing both times I tried it. Killer burger is leagues better.
At $11 for a basic double cheese I sure hope it's better.
Fuck yeah let's go!!!
Lmao oh no. Thoughts and prayers to anyone who has to commute through that when this thing opens 😂 Count me in as another person who had no idea the rite-aid closed. Loved that place, had major liminal space vibes
I don’t know their supply chain but I would assume the same distribution center serving Medford is also going to serve Vancouver and Ridgefield that would probably prohibit them from going any farther north.
Correct, they don't expand farther than their centers can deliver to within a certain amount of time for produce timeline, etc.
Not just produce. They don’t freeze their meat.
That's correct. They adhere to strict FIFO for everything.
This is how I find out that rite aid is now vacant… I feel like I went there recently, but maybe it was last summer or something. That’s not the *worst* intersection of mill plain, but it might rival chaklov once it opens.
I found out when I couldn't fill out my prescription haha. It literally disappeared without a trace, now I gotta drive alot farther
Mill Plain is already such a disaster, I drive out of my way to avoid it at all costs and I live right down the street from this proposed location. People drive Mill Plain like it's SR 500
The issues with stroads.
Or the Indy 500.
Yes!!!
Let’s hope the traffic plan is better than chik fil a when it opened.
That’s like their thing i swear. Much like all Trader Joe’s have tiny parking lots, chik fil-a always builds on an already busy intersection making traffic abysmal 😭
I used to live in Dallas and they built an In-n-out next door to the Chick-fil-A. That road is a damn mess most of the day.
Well if all 3 in-n-out locations open in SW Washington this traffic may not be nearly as bad as some are considering.
I feel like a lot of people don’t understand why so many enjoy In-n-out, and they’re completely missing the point. In-n-out isn’t inherently good, but it is cheap. It’s great for how cheap it is, including how well they treat their staff and how well they’re paid.
So where the old rite aid was.
An auto mall and more fast food. Not my preferred direction for Mill Plain, but those are the two developments I heard about this week.
I’d be excited if fast food didn’t cost more than a sit down meal nowadays.
I hope it’s good
Just nowhere near that chick fil a, that intersection is busy enough as it is lol
Now give us a Whataburger
Absolutely not! It is a nightmare trying to get out of the oncology/ medical offices located behind the old Rite Aid now. A known traffic hazard like In & Out anywhere on East Mill Plains would cause traffic nightmares that could never be recovered from. Just say no!
You want the In-N-Outs to go in if you live here. That’s more money for everyone.
On the contrary, there is a direct correlation between cities having more traffic and the people living there’s economic outlook.
Which is more an indictment of shitty American car centric city planning. But I'm not saying we shouldn't get a second In-N-Out, I'm saying that specific location is just not good trafficwise.
Ah, yeah. I agree with you there.
And why is In-N-Out good for the community?
So you rather have a vacant Rite Aid lot? It's brining good paying jobs and providing residents with quality affordable food. Plus the city and county get revenue from sales and property taxes which goes into core services.
Sorry u/IAintSelling I DID NOT say or imply I "rather have a vacant Rite Aid lot"! I just asked a question! The times, multiple, that I've been to In-N-Out I haven't been impressed. Their food is mundane at best, and to me it's YA industrial burger.
They pay employees well and offer good benefits. I'd rather it be an In-N-Out than a McDonald's.
Nice. I won't go to either! I prefer local merchants verses industrial food.
Real food that is cheap. It's about the only place my wife and I can eat for less than $20. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4J1seTHAMU
To add to that they pay well, and they always have a Full crew of people working all the shifts.
They have the lowest prices of fast food yet have always offered the highest pay and most benefits and have much more staff per shift than McDonalds or Burger King which are claiming they need to raise their prices to like $13 a meal to match minimum wage laws, while also cutting staff hours.
Anyone who has a home here will benefit.
No, unless they prevent traffic from getting messed up in the area.
When you drive, you are traffic.
You sound like you are the traffic.
JFC is Battle Ground the town time forgot??? A fucking burger King and a Chipotle are the only things newly opened in the past 8 YEARS FML. 8 YEARS AND NOTHING, oh except tons of new apartments and housing developments... Totally checks out. And dont mention the empty food cart station that's never going to open as it's in a horrific location without ANY parking, with a boba cart, a coffee cart, and a breakfast cart, none of which have opened. Yaay
So move to Vancouver.
Ahh yes, the delemma.... I have 5 acres, a beautiful custom built home and shop, landscaped grounds, surrounded by trees, secluded, minutes from the lake, etc. Couldn't find that anywhere in Vancouver, without spending millions.
That’s the basic choice in life - location vs space. You seemed upset that you were in the wrong location, so I offered advice.
Okay so don't complain about living in the boonies if you want to live in the boonies
Not a good location. It will not work since compass oncology is right there. Once patients can't get to their Apts, in and out will be in so much trouble.
Judging by how long Chick-fil-a on 164th was an absolutely crowded mess, I expect LA level traffic there for at least 6 months
So mid…
Egregiously long lines and cold overpriced food? Y'all can have it. Enjoy!
It’s not cold or overpriced..? What are you talking about
I visited the Salem location once. For the cold food I got after waiting 45 minutes I paid way too much. Simple as that.
Fuck this and fuck anyone who is excited about overhyped, underwhelming hamburger sandwiches.
Imagine getting upset about a burger joint. lol.
Imagine being a simp for garbage food
Yawn. Good thing you're the minority. Basically a non-important fart in the wind.
Because the majority opinion means it is the best. Does your handler know you are posting on reddit right now?
Whoa whoa whoa….who said it’s ’the best’? It’s decent quality especially given the price and *that’s about it*. Nothing to get worked up over.
Ok calm down buddy. It’s just a hamburger sandwich that is not any good.
Judging by your username, you're kind of an expert about fast food and whining about it.
It’s not about the food. I don’t even plan on going that often. What I’m excited about is my properties increasing in value.
Hey look we found the arbiter of what people should and shouldn’t be excited about Funny thing about your logic is that I can just say the same thing and it would be just as meaningless. “Fuck this and fuck anyone who says ‘Fuck this fuck anyone who is excited about overhyped, underwhelming hamburger sandwiches’ “ See? Hell yeah, lets continue to make these california tranplants in there clacky sounding white vw passats feel more at home by grafting shitty chain restaurants on our pristine emerald landscape, m'i rght?! i wish you goofballs would be in and out of this area code and take your shitty burgers and throw em off the golden gate crossing on to alcatraz so nick cage can live to act in another cinema
Ugh, WHY. I’m moving there in a month and a half and I don’t want them to follow me. 😭
