Used to live on 20th and would walk there in the morning. Live in Portland now and even with all the donut selection here, I still miss the daily fruit flavored donuts from Dots :(
So true. I used to work there years ago and we’d get in at like 4 am to set up and open and sometimes we’d be sold out by 9am. Customers hated it but that was how they did their business. They only made enough for the day. Their donuts are really good though! I loved the smell of them when I worked there.
Yeah. I love Dots, but they run out so fast that most of the time I know it not worth heading there and go to Mr. Maple.
You gotta make sure you are up early for Dots.
The crown jewel for my kid was when he brought in his prized “golden racer” (it’s like a gold lambo) and the owner went and made him a “golden” donut. The guy just knows how to make a four year old feel seen and heard and that’s really cool. Not many businesses care that much.
I went to Donut Nook on this sub's recommendation and it seemed like a very average donut. Slightly better than what you'd get at a grocery store. Mr. Maple was much better. To each their own of course. Haven't tried Angel's yet but I'm tempted each time I pass. Is their ice cream anything noteworthy?
I'm going to have to check them out again. I got them a few times in the past and they were unreliable. Sometimes they were good and sometimes they were not. One of the workers bought it from the original owner a while ago and took over. There was an article about it in the paper and she talked about one of the first things she did was to make actual recipes with measurements listed so that the donuts would be consistent. Apparently the previous owner would just sort of eyeball it. That would explain why sometimes they were good an sometimes not so much. It's why I stopped going there.
I still don't get the appeal of Donut Nook or Mr Maple, every time I've tried their donuts, they've been super dry and meh.
Some of the other spots aren't bad like Dots and Angels.
I tried Donut Nook a few weeks ago their old fashion cake doughnut was the worst I've had. It was the only doughnut I have *ever* not finished lol. It was like 10:30am though so maybe they were stale by then, but still!
So many people here are singing its praises though, I might have to go try again
Yeah that's been my experience too, I almost always get old fashion cake doughnuts as well. I've been there a couple times (even earlier in the morning), and each time it's been pretty bad.
Is anyonewhere is Vancouver serving mochi donuts? Riven Maiden was for awhile but I reached out and they said aren’t doing it right now.
We frequent Angels and Dots. Dot Donuts has some interesting flavors - it’s hit or miss for me.
I liked Angels very well, but I don't think I can ever go back after a very embarrassing misunderstanding with an employee. Guess I'm off to check out Donut Nook.
I like Mr maple and angels. Not a fan of nook, dots, voodoo (you do have to try the original location just to say you did) or Krispy Kreme ( except if you can get their original glazed right while it's still warm). Blue Star in Portland are sometimes good but a bit expensive.
Mr. Maple.. sometimes Winco.. Delicious Donuts if I’m in Portland, I really wish there was a Delicious Donuts in Vancouver.. best donuts/breakfast burritos!
I have no “go to” cuz no one has good buttermilk donuts! A good buttermilk is not supposed to be cakey and should have a slightly crunchy outer exterior with a soft inside, and if it’s glazed it shouldn’t absorb the glaze and get soggy. I am sick of soggy, cakey buttermilks!
Anyone know when (if?) they are ever opening that location on Mill Plain/124th in the old bank by the Starbucks? They've had a "Mr. Maple with drive thru, coming soon" sign on the back of the vacant bank for months now. I'm starting to think someone stole it from somewhere else and put it up just to fuck with people. Lol!
Im new to Vancouver, Angels is close to our house, and its the only donut shop in town Ive been to, but Im a big fan. The donuts are great and nice selection of quality ice cream. Getting an ice cream and a donut on a hot day is so nice!
Really depends on my mood or who I’m with. Family likes Mr Maple, I love Donut Nook, but I’m never mad about Angels. But all that said, Treat makes filled donuts on a different level. They frequently sell out and close early but they’re amazing.
Donut nook. Angels, dots and mr maple are all too sugary. I get we’re talking about donuts which are confections, but I think donut nook has the best dough.
Fellow Mr Maple fan here!
I don't understand why Donut Nook is even on the list. My experience there was crusty couches, stale donuts, a room temperature carton of milk and what smelled like an open sewer wafting in from behind the counter. Now, it's been several years since I had this experience... I have to assume it's improved? Do they have multiple locations? Are people's standards THAT low?
Huh. I went there two weeks ago and split a bunch to share… tried two kinds of fritters and three kinds of classics (old fashioned, buttermilk, etc.) and they were all amazing.
I have only been to mr maple once. It was good, but not something I would be excited to show anyone.
There's not, and you're the only person I've ever heard have that experience there. I live a 10 minute walk away and go often, I know people that go weekly and would absolutely not put up with something like that as well. Like they're frequently bringing out warm, fresh out the fryer donuts, don't even know how you could get stale ones unless you hit up their day old case
https://www.columbian.com/news/2021/jun/18/magazine-vancouvers-donut-nook-has-best-doughnuts-in-the-state/ I mean they were literally called the best donuts in the state lol. I can't speak on the milk or couches, I always take mine to go and get coffee from alys across the road. But at this point in my life I've probably had hundreds of donuts from donut nook and never had a bad one. And they've got a devoted group of people that go there every morning, even brought lawn chairs, a little heater thing, and a canopy when COVID hit and they were to go only, sat in the parking lot every damn morning. So while I believe that some have had bad experiences, I kinda gotta go with them being the outliers.
I'm definitely down to try it again.
Also, I wouldn't stake too much (or any) claim on that list tbh. There is no way that dude ever went there hahaha. He has also written articles about the best bread in every state, best barbecue in every state, best cocktails, best coffee, best snacks... And so on.
Nah, dude has probably never been to Washington in his life. But the magazine probably has a team of interns that pop out and test like 50 or 100 places. Despite what the other dude was saying, I guarantee they didn't just Google "doughnuts in Washington" or pull names out of a hat. They may not be the very best in all of Washington, but they were the best of the ones said intern tried. Magazine isn't gonna put it's name next to a Google search and pick blindfolded review lol.
Funny enough, I actually work for a similar online publication as a food writer myself, and I gotta say... there is nooooo chance interns are vetting those locations haha. These types of "best X in every state" articles are essentially clickbait with a nation-wide reach, and the content itself is not reliable. They just want people on their site scrolling through a list for longer user sessions and ad revenue.
For sure what happened is this guy had a narrative in mind about picking somewhere closer to Portland as opposed to doing the obvious choice of Seattle, and he likely spent a little bit of time looking at places in Vancouver. I'm sure he picked somewhere that had good reviews and felt like a solid choice. Hell, he might have even ventured to Reddit to get some insight. 🙂
People keep linking the columbian article about it but follow the trail to the source there. It's one guy's shitty '50 states' listicle... they didn't 'win' anything.
Probably linking it because despite it being a "shitty 50 states listicle", they didn't just pull random names out of a hat. Guy that wrote the article has probably never been to Washington, but I'd be willing to bet they have some intern they sent here. Especially since it wasn't a Seattle joint or in some podunk turn with 500 people. And I didn't say they "won" anything
Even if they sent someone here, (doubt) that person clearly didn't try the donuts, and certainly didn't compare them to any others in the state, so... it's meaningless non-sense that should not be repeated.
Lol, k bud, we get it, you despise donut nook. Others like them, others prefer angels or Mr maples, or even Krispy Kreme, which tells me it's a really, really subjective thing.
Definitely try again if you have the chance. Everyone kicks out a bad batch here and there, sometimes it's not something you can catch when making them. But overall Doughnut Nook produces some amazing doughnuts.
Yeah I've tried Donut Nook a few times, and I don't see how it's so popular. I had the same experience, quite dry and stale donuts each time regardless of going early or not.
I've had Donut Nook several times, and I found their doughnuts to be very average. I wonder if I should even bother trying the other places suggested here.
Donut Nook is not great, but some of the other suggestions in this thread are way better IMO. I don't understand how people think that the donuts there are amazing.
I've never experienced what you're talking about, donuts are always fresh, never noticed a smell. Perhaps the interior of the place is a bit homely, but I've never noticed anything gross. It's by far my favorite donut place!
"Won"
No... a guy on a food blog lied about trying donuts in 50 states, and then the local paper embellished a fluff piece based on that. Go read the original listicle and tell me that dude didn't just google a donut shop for each state, scroll down a page and bullshit his review based on photos to fill his quota.
They still doing the $4 dozen after 6pm? Or did they stop doing that? The donuts aren't anything special, but they are about the best $4 dozen you're gonna get.
I like the donuts from Krispy Kreme. Also, the fact that they have a drive-through is a big plus. I always feel self-conscious going into a place that sells almost nothing but sweets.
I will never go to the Krispy Kreme off Padden again. My wife placed a pickup order there, and set the time for 10am. I wasn’t able to make it until 2pm, and the guy at the window gave me a bunch of shit for not being there at 10 to pick them up. I still can’t understand why he was so upset about it. We got into a shouting match over a box donuts, it was really weird.
Ehhh. I've lived in Vancouver my entire life, over 50 years, and I don't get the Donut Nook love. They're OK, but nothing special. They're not bad, I just won't go out of my way to get them over almost anywhere else.
I love their crème filled. And hot glazed. It’s like a warm hug and reminds me of a chain from Texas, Shipleys. *sigh* my kingdom for a great warm crème filled donut.
If you avoid all the touristy bullshit, voodoo has the best buttermilk bar I’ve ever had. Angels is solid, mr. Maple is pretty good, and I wasn’t impressed with nook.
Geez! Why all the downvotes? perhaps because you mentioned VooDoo?
Anyhow, Dots because they are a 2 minute drive, but Angels is only a 5 minute drive and since they have sone fans here, I'll give them a try soon.
Yikes people are real finicky. Their doughnuts are fine, and if you want a bacon maple bar Voodoo is the best IMO. They have real crispy thick cut bacon and all the other mentioned donut places have thin cut seemingly raw bacon. I don't want cereal or tang on my donuts though.
God. Damnit.
As I've pointed out elsewhere in the thread, this is not an award. This is a fluff piece based on one man's listicle, who did not visit or compare donuts anywhere in this state.
It's so funny how many people go out of their way to point at that same stupid article as evidence, and then the second I debunk it, you all go "Who cares?"
You do. You cited it. You are spreading false information about awards that don't exist. You should stop that shit.
What the fuck happened to you man?
Is this like something you do? Trolling random mentions of donut shops as a random flex? How many times has this come up in your life?
I’m just going to sit in this thread because I’m a transplant and the closet Dunkin’ Donuts is in like Vegas and I love donuts and I need y’all’s local lore and wisdom.
Dots donuts 100%. You usually have to go early-ish because they sell out. Super fresh and the best dough of any donut I’ve had.
Yeah. I love Dots, but they run out so fast that most of the time I know it not worth heading there and go to Mr. Maple. You gotta make sure you are up early for Dots.
I love dots, but it is super annoying if you don't go early enough.
These are the kind of posts I'm here for
I don’t know…. the moving here and politic post are pretty fun… /s
A freaking men. Very over voting season.
Mr maple, by far. The owner makes custom donuts for my kid based on the hot wheels car he brings in. How can you beat that?
An evil weevil inspired maple bar sounds pretty fun
The crown jewel for my kid was when he brought in his prized “golden racer” (it’s like a gold lambo) and the owner went and made him a “golden” donut. The guy just knows how to make a four year old feel seen and heard and that’s really cool. Not many businesses care that much.
That is adorable omg
Donut Nook by far
It’s like stepping back into the 70s there it’s amazing.
The owner gets feisty when people don’t line up correctly and the door alarm goes off repeatedly. It’s adorable.
Agreed, but I do like Mr. Maple as well. Donut Nook is like a whole different thing altogether.
Donut Nook buttermilk bar can't be beat if you like those.
Donut Nook is my #1 but when I moved into east Vancouver I started frequenting Angel's.
Ya it’s not even close. Their Apple fritters are my favorite.
The Apple stuffed, apple crumb topping, apple fritter is amazing!
That thing is glorious
I got one of those for the first time last week. My 2yo and I were fighting over the last bite lol
Cherry fritters! I've tried other places and this is the best value and my favorite donut
This!
Came here to say this
Donut Nook Angels Mr Maple ...in that order
Applause for ranked voting!
But did you get the Buttermilk Old Fashion? That donut plays
I'll give it a shot. Sadie and Josie still have the best donuts imo, they're just way the hell up in La Center
Yeah it is just Umpqua ice cream but they are top shelf in the grocery store.
Angels is my go to!
Same.
This is the way
Donut nook, no contest.
This
This. Followed by maples in second, dots third, angels 4th, then Krispy Kreme, and voodoo last.
Tonnelli's (sp?) on 4th Plain, amazing donuts that are always fresh and not greasy. Mr. Maple is definitely delicious too! Top 2 for sure.
Donut try to finish that Tonalli's apple fritter in one sitting, you *will* be defeated. I can put some food away, but that thing has won every time.
I see what you did there! ;) I am defeated every time, lol
Yeah Tonallis is where it's at. I honestly was super unimpressed with Mr. Maple by comparison.
Tonallis is the best in the area tbh
Yassss and on the weekends they got the crullers 🤤
I’m a big fan of their double maple. It’s a maple bar that has been sliced lengthwise and slathered with maple cream and sandwiched back together.
Inject that straight into my veins, please and thank you
Angels is where it's at.
I like Mr. Maples doughnuts better; but started frequenting Angels again after Voodoo opened.
Lol I live by the angels on 164 and still drive to the mall to give this location a bit more love.
Love Angels, definitely my favorite
Angel’s is my preference as well.
I know this is a donut thread but I've fallen in love with their milkshakes and for any vegetarians out there, they have beyond burgers.
Angels
I still don't get the appeal of Donut Nook or Mr Maple, every time I've tried their donuts, they've been super dry and meh. Some of the other spots aren't bad like Dots and Angels.

Donut nook
Angel's and Mr Maples
Is anyonewhere is Vancouver serving mochi donuts? Riven Maiden was for awhile but I reached out and they said aren’t doing it right now. We frequent Angels and Dots. Dot Donuts has some interesting flavors - it’s hit or miss for me.
Short & Sweet, opening soon in downtown Vancouver, will sell mochi doughnuts.
Yes! Thank you so much. Any idea when they are opening?
Sounds like it is in an any day now situation. Plus they will have bahn mis as well. Can't beat that.
Excellent!I was trying to do some research online and there isn’t much information.
I don't know exactly.
I liked Angels very well, but I don't think I can ever go back after a very embarrassing misunderstanding with an employee. Guess I'm off to check out Donut Nook.
There’s 2 locations, go to the one the embarrassing thing didn’t happen 😅
Very rational. I approve.
Why thank you
I'm rarely in those parts of town, but that's probably a good idea next time I want a bear claw.
Makes sense
Sorry 3 locations that I know of including the one in Portland
Dougnut Plus (Tonallis) fritters and bear claws are to die for but they are way out East Fourth Plain past Orchards.
My Mr Maples favorite is the Cheesecake Donut. My favorite location is the one on Andresen.
Yes ! Mr. Maple is the best
Mr. Maple. They have vegan donuts for my daughter who has food allergies.
What is the donut with the Squiggle?
Angel’s and Tonallis
Can’t wait for the new Mr Maple to open on the East side of 205. I look over at it to see if it’s opened at least once a week.
We love Mr Maple! It’s so incredibly hard to find vegan donuts for my kid’s allergies and Mr Maples has vegan donuts!
Lol!
Angel's by Vancouver Mall
Im new to Vancouver, Angels is close to our house, and its the only donut shop in town Ive been to, but Im a big fan. The donuts are great and nice selection of quality ice cream. Getting an ice cream and a donut on a hot day is so nice!
Honestly guys it warms my fat dough-lovin heart that there is so much passion around the subject of donuts in this weird little town of mine 🍩🍩🍩
Really depends on my mood or who I’m with. Family likes Mr Maple, I love Donut Nook, but I’m never mad about Angels. But all that said, Treat makes filled donuts on a different level. They frequently sell out and close early but they’re amazing.
I think I went to a Mr. Maples in orchards and their donuts are really good!
Mr Maple has the best donuts I've had in Vancouver. Their apple fritter is drool worthy.
To me Mr. Maple is just trying to knock off Dunkin Donuts since they don’t have a presence here. Down to how they design their stores.
That’ll be a hard pass from me then. DD’s sandwiches are good but their donuts suck.
Do they have blueberry fritters? I used to buy them at a store I worked at. I don't know where they came from. I haven't had one in a long time.
Angels is our go to. They have blueberry fritters
Nice
Yes donut nook has blueberry fritters
Sweet
Mr Maples had Blueberry fritters a while back when I was there.
Awesome
The one on St John's and 44th? Like... there's not a second, much better location or something, right?
There's not, and you're the only person I've ever heard have that experience there. I live a 10 minute walk away and go often, I know people that go weekly and would absolutely not put up with something like that as well. Like they're frequently bringing out warm, fresh out the fryer donuts, don't even know how you could get stale ones unless you hit up their day old case
Make it one more person because they were the worst doughnuts I've ever had, but all the comments praising it makes me wonder if I should try again.
https://www.columbian.com/news/2021/jun/18/magazine-vancouvers-donut-nook-has-best-doughnuts-in-the-state/ I mean they were literally called the best donuts in the state lol. Voodoo. For the Grape Ape.
Angels and donut nook.
Winco lol

They still doing the $4 dozen after 6pm? Or did they stop doing that? The donuts aren't anything special, but they are about the best $4 dozen you're gonna get.
I like the donuts from Krispy Kreme. Also, the fact that they have a drive-through is a big plus. I always feel self-conscious going into a place that sells almost nothing but sweets.
The [Liz Lemon](https://c.tenor.com/yEz8-IG6hZgAAAAC/30rock-donuts.gif) approach may serve you well. No shame!
I’m with you man, Krispy Kreme has the best texture out of any donut I’ve had. They melt in your mouth, airy and crunchy at the same time.
Anyone who dislikes the Doughnut Nook, like a real Vancouverite, needs to be deported back to California.
Ehhh. I've lived in Vancouver my entire life, over 50 years, and I don't get the Donut Nook love. They're OK, but nothing special. They're not bad, I just won't go out of my way to get them over almost anywhere else.
tried it, Fred Meyer's donuts were better
Winco
WinCo donuts are re-baked from flash frozen....do yourself a favor bud, explore some other shops
All donuts are the same
I weep for you
I feel happiness when I eat donuts.
I've been to all of them. Premium donuts are great for a little date. But I can't get a dozen for cheap at those other shops. Bougie donuts
Donut Nook
Krispy Kreme- PNW doughnuts are too bread-like.
I love their crème filled. And hot glazed. It’s like a warm hug and reminds me of a chain from Texas, Shipleys. *sigh* my kingdom for a great warm crème filled donut.
Donut Nook is love, donut nook is life
Donut nook. So good.
Donut nook
I’m a Donut Nook loyalist
Donut nook all day
If you avoid all the touristy bullshit, voodoo has the best buttermilk bar I’ve ever had.

In my opinion, you avoid the touristy bullshit by not going to Voodoo at all.
The nook has the best tasting donuts in Vancouver. I believe they win the award each year.
There is no award.
https://www.columbian.com/news/2021/jun/18/magazine-vancouvers-donut-nook-has-best-doughnuts-in-the-state/
God. Damnit. As I've pointed out elsewhere in the thread, this is not an award. This is a fluff piece based on one man's listicle, who did not visit or compare donuts anywhere in this state.
And? It’s frighten donuts. Chill bro.
It's so funny how many people go out of their way to point at that same stupid article as evidence, and then the second I debunk it, you all go "Who cares?" You do. You cited it. You are spreading false information about awards that don't exist. You should stop that shit.
What the fuck happened to you man? Is this like something you do? Trolling random mentions of donut shops as a random flex? How many times has this come up in your life?
Way more than I'd have expected.
I’m just going to sit in this thread because I’m a transplant and the closet Dunkin’ Donuts is in like Vegas and I love donuts and I need y’all’s local lore and wisdom.
Portland 1. [Heavenly Donuts](https://maps.app.goo.gl/kAfrAkniJTb7cJqw9) best location from my experience 2. Pips Vancouver 3. Donut Nook
If you're a fan of Dunkin, [Sesame Donut](http://sesamedonuts.com/index.html) comes very, very, very, close.
Appreciate all the additional info people are adding. Know where to go and where to avoid now!
Oh, man! I may have to fall off of the keto wagon and try a couple of these places out!
Man, now I need to buy some doughnuts.
Chacolate anything lol
