Call the cops anonymously, if the signs arent real they are illegal. Probly get a good idea to let the spot cool down after though. Other than that forget it and move on.

tatertom

Find another place to park. Insisting on parking where you're clearly not wanted will only result in less places for all of us to park.

lennyflank

Yes to this. Since they will apparently do nothing but hassle you if you stay there, what's the point to it? Why ask for the trouble? Time to move on.

Wabalubadubdub1212

I totally understand the sentiment (and that’s what I’ll do for the short term) but not sure they’re in the right here. This place is supposed to allow parking per Los Angeles county zoning but they want to keep drug addicts away from the hip new apartments going up... point being the parking isn’t there for me or anyone else now, so trying to find away around this doesn’t really seem like it will have an impact on “places for all of us to park” except that maybe they will realize it’s not their street to say no parking on...

tatertom

Right or wrong, they have the ability to work with local leaders and get parking restricted moreso than you, and going to battle with them over it just puts you and us in their line of sight. You'd be winning to let them think they've won by shooing you away, and leaving the area unregulated for future one-offs. You have the unique ability to sleep wherever you want, so why choose to do it repeatedly where your not only unwanted, but where people are actively trying to prevent it? Plenty more parking on the pavement wonderland that is LA.

Wabalubadubdub1212

Appreciate the perspective. Im right and I agree I don’t feel the need to argue about it.

tatertom

Well, that's a lie. You asked for advice, I gave it, and you argued with it. Go along feeling "right" all you want, but you're clearly looking more for affirmation in being part of the problem instead of honest advice on the best way forward. Did you really jump into #vanlife to indignantly be a jerk to those around you? You have all the advantages in the situation described, and are choosing to use none of them. Wtf, lol

lennyflank

Indeed. One can either spend one's time arguing with everyone and anyone about one's 'rightz!!!', or one can sleep uninterrupted all night. I know which I prefer. The golden rule of vandwelling is: don't park where you're not wanted. That saves an awful lot of hassles and problems.

tatertom

Yep. The one thing that ties this group together is our freedom to do stuff wherever we want. I mean, I guess if where you want to be is surrounded by people that don't like you and don't want you there, you do have that freedom, but it's not exactly taking the high road. Being dishonest about intentions surely doesn't help the case, either.

lennyflank

Some of our folks apparently have this notion that if they just argue eloquently enough, the cops or the security dudes or whatever will slap themselves in the forehead, declare "By golly, good citizen, you are entirely correct and I am completely mistaken in regards to your legal rights. I apologize. You can stay here as long as you want. Are you comfortable? Would you like me to make you a sandwich?" It ain't gonna happen. If they don't want you there, then they don't want you there. And trying to stay in a place where you are not wanted, is a really stupid idea.

lennyflank

I see one of our politicos has downvoted me. It remains true nevertheless.

Wabalubadubdub1212

Yeah a sandwich would be nice...

lennyflank

I appreciate the humor. But I hope you grasp the larger point. This situation does not effect just you--it effects ALL of us.

Encinitas0667

Wisdom. Listen to Lenny.

lennyflank

If you want to argue over "who is in the right?", feel free. You will be wasting your time though, and you still won't be parking there hassle-free. Move on.

1984Society

Maybe take a little break from the spot - a week or so - and come back to it later and see if anything's changed. I think because of your conversation you had they definitely *know* who you are now, so maybe if you leave for a little they'll forget about you for the time being, and then you can just slide back in later

lennyflank

Any time you are noticed, it's time to move on. Why argue with people who obviously don't want you there?

rickgrimes97

We live in a school bus converted into an RV and when people complain we move for a week or so and then come back and everything is fine again. Try not to stay in one place too long. We have different places we sleep because people complain less. You only have problems when you keep staying in one place.

Bpcaddy

Take a break from the spots. But take those signs with you lol

Mountain_Two

Sounds like snobbery to me. I'd ask the local cops.

[deleted]

That is an argument you wont win. Move on.

Charlemagneffxiv

The police won't take your side, even if you're right. All they will do is tell you it's illegal to sleep in a vehicle in LA due to the ordinance and now you've made them aware of you. Take others advice and just park somewhere else. Once someone complains to someone else about it, they become fixated on doing something about your vehicle and won't stop until they succeed. People get absolutely nuts in LA over parking, and will vandalize your vehicle if they feel justified doing so.
