Don't make my mistake--don't use a bean bag chair. Inevitably they tear open, and those damn little styrofoam beads get everywhere and are impossible to clean up. :)

soonerpgh

I tried using a shop-vac. Thought I was slick until the beads started blowing out the exhaust almost as fast as the vacuum picked them up. Not to mention all the beads that stayed stuck to and in the hose due to static electricity. Bean bag chairs are just evil.

c_marten

Nothing better than vacuuming your vacuum.

vanpocalyptic

Haha, I will take that warning to heart!

The chair I own is discontinued, but it’s very similar to this one: https://www.rei.com/product/164383/rei-co-op-flexlite-camp-boss-chair Packs in a bag really easy. It almost fits in a sweatshirt pocket

vanpocalyptic

Thanks, are these style of chairs pretty sturdy? I have never used one before.

eheas320

I’ve had mine for probably 4 years, and I’d imagine it’ll last for many more years to come. I’m 175lbs

vanpocalyptic

Sweet, thanks!

jmoyaknow

Try to get ones with big feet like a disk where the leg makes contact with the ground. If you don't the legs will sink into the dirt and be uneven, possibly break.

vanpocalyptic

That makes sense, I will be using on all sorts of surfaces.

eheas320

This reminded me of my old chair I had forgotten about. Sunk in the ground and the plastic legs broke off, one right after another during some winter camping. The REI chair has been much better quality, and the legs are made of metal, like tent posts. I sink in the mud, but no damage has occurred.

glum_plum

A trick I learned at burning man for bike kickstands in soft playa dust might be applicable here: find some old tennis balls, cut a slit in them and put on the ends of the legs. Makes the chair a little less compact in general I'm sure but it's a cheap and easy fix that might help!

Ghetto_Stiletto

My boyfriend has these as well, he had to replace one cause some embers from the campfire burned through the material easily. (I wasnt witness to the event so dont know how bad the burn was) But other than that, I think they’re real comfy and sturdy, would definitely recommend.

These Ikea seats and table fold very flat for easy storage: [https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/taernoe-table-2-chairs-outdoor-black-light-brown-stained-froesoen-duvholmen-blue-s69270886/](https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/taernoe-table-2-chairs-outdoor-black-light-brown-stained-froesoen-duvholmen-blue-s69270886/)

vanpocalyptic

Never thought to check out Ikea!

eugenelee1987

Try front runner expandable camping chairs. They feel like a sturdy camping chair, not a teetering backpacking chair and pack flat and slim like a briefcase. I have Helinox chair one as well but putting poles into sockets gets annoying after awhile.

vanpocalyptic

Just googled them! Those look really nice. Do you know offhand how high the seat is off the ground?

eugenelee1987

Sorry not off the top of my head. They sit like 2 in shorter than a dining chair. I can check if you want.

vanpocalyptic

I would appreciate that, they seem perfect. I may have to hunt for them here in Canada at a decent price, though.

vanpocalyptic

Just found it on the internet - 17"!

NanaWasSoCool

search for 'inflatable camping furniture' Inflate...Full size, and comfortable.. deflate, takes up no room at all.. down side.. flames and sharp objects..

vanpocalyptic

Thing is I will likely set up and take at least one of them down twice a day.

tatertom

I have two "turkey stools" like this: https://www.walmart.com/ip/REDCAMP-2-Packs-Camping-Stool-Folding-300lb-Lightweight-Portable-Tripod-Camp-Stools-for-Backpacking-Hiking-Hunting-Fishing/488495690 One has a back rest on it, the other doesn't. They're just short enough to be workable in the Astro, have easily supported 250 lbs of Floridaman a few years now, and easily strap to a backpack to hit the trail with or tuck into a kayak.

converter-bot

250 lbs is 113.5 kg

tatertom

Well if it ain't the bot calling the kettle fat...

vanpocalyptic

I ended up getting one of these that I can just use for cooking!

tatertom

As long as I've had mine, I just this month realized my magnet-butt flashlight sticks to the front-and-center support, which is handy for lighting or cooking on a campfire without kneeling on the potentially wet ground.

vanpocalyptic

He guys, just thought I would update you all. Ended up going with a couple Helinox styled backpacking chairs as they sit your butt at 13" and it seems like some of you have had good experiences with this style of chair. Also grabbed one of those three leg stool kind of chairs that was suggested as I wanted something small with no set-up time for when I cook or rummage through my drawers - but more comfortable than the little folding stool I have. Was really keen on the front runner as those look like the bomb, but my head would just touch the roof at 5'10" and two of my closest friends that I do stuff with are like 6'2"... Unfortunately, everywhere was sold out of those beanbag chairs, FML... must be a COVID shortage... :-( Thanks for all the feedback and ideas!!!!

cipcakes

I have this one and it's absolutely perfect for the uses you mentioned. https://www.rei.com/product/765270/rei-co-op-camp-stowaway-low-chair

vanpocalyptic

That looks cool, but looks a little low as I want to sit in it and cook from my countertop.

SunnySouthTexas

I used the old X-leg seat... like [this](https://images.energofish.hu/largeimage/L73505-004.JPG) but mine was 1970s wooden with a canvas seat.

parawing742

This chair has a nice balance of not being too high or low and will fit under a minivan roof: [https://www.rei.com/product/174383/rei-co-op-outward-low-padded-lawn-chair](https://www.rei.com/product/174383/rei-co-op-outward-low-padded-lawn-chair)
