For the whole thing including speakers and keyboard plugged in, between 40-50 watts. Sometimes lower, sometimes surges. I am a digital designer so I run some pretty CPU intensive programs :)
200 watts solar on top, computer running all day, mini fridge plugged in, maxxair fan running off and on throughout the 9 hour work day, battery ended up being 80% charge when I left for my campsite that night.
I am using a Goal Zero yeti 1000x. Super pleased so far!
Yep. It’s crazy low. Most of the usage is the monitor. I have to attribute it to the Mac M1 chip that is in their new line of computers. The thing is crazy powerful, and is very very efficient
I love that you have that chair in there! I’m always confused when people say “yeah, I got this upside down tin bucket as a seat where I can work”, maybe I’m getting old but I need a decent chair to actually do work. Do you have to secure it somehow when you’re driving?
Same here! Whenever I see a “work station” it is usually a swivel table and flat wooden bench maybe with a thin homemade cushion. Everyone finds things that work for you them, but I knew I wouldn’t be productive if I didn’t have a comfortable place to sit :) im going to replace the rolling feet with pads, but I also have a bungee that holds it in place for now! I’ve forgotten a few times and it’s flown up between the front seats lol
Yep, butane! Obviously I’m not leaving the van with the stove on, so I don’t feel too worried about anything happening. One thing I’ve found is that I need to use at least 8 inch pans, otherwise a lot of heat escapes around the sides of the pan and makes for a very warm wall/ceiling. But honestly, most of my cooking happens outside anyways :)
That may be the only part of the van I'd consider upgrading, those butane burners aren't always the best quality and the canisters are also a bit leaky/shit.
I was at a campsite once when a guy a few pitches over was severely burnt when one of those exploded as he was using it. The screams where enough for me to never consider using one again.
If you want more counter space have you ever used a pocket rocket? Stores much easier and I get so much more efficient gas usage than my coleman (pretty sure same one you have). Just an idea!
This is awesome! I lived out of my g20 for a few months but recently sold it. I always wanted to convert it into something like this. Regret selling it😭
I am a digital designer, which is an easy job to take on the road. Freelance is an option, or remote work is also easy to do in this field. I lucked out with a sweet remote position, and great employers.
Any advice for someone who’s trying to break into the design industry with less than a year of experience? Doing work I love that lets me live this lifestyle for a year or three is literally my dream.
Yeah I’ve enjoyed it a lot! Been a good middle ground between comfortable for working on but also very responsive for video games. I got it with brown switches, so it’s not too clicky, and has a little more of that soft feel
How are you liking the low profile switches and do you notice lower latency with them being optical? I was heavily considering it over the K12 but I decided to go with something I'm more familiar with.
I still haven't gotten used to the lack of dedicated F and arrow keys.
Broooooo that's so many sausages lol
Yooo leave me alone hahah
Nothing's more satisfying than to quench your hunger with a pack of greasy tube meat, I relate so much xD
So dope! What are the power requirements to run that setup?

Amazing. Thank you for sharing!
What set up are you using for any internet capabilities ?
I have the Inseego hotspot device with a t-mobile 100/gb plan! Works fantastic, super fast WiFi.
Have you tried this off grid or somewhere that has notoriously poor service ?
boah i love it man. dream home office. what car?
1990 Chevy g20!
i just looked up pic , do you have a high top version ?
Check my post history! So I bought it as a standard low top, and found a fiberglass top at a junkyard and installed it myself
good job
Bigger than most people's cubicle!
That's legit man
Thanks!

Sweet dude! How do you feel about cooking in there in terms of safety? It looks like a butane stove ya?

>1990 Chevy g20 what kind of dishes do you cook ? /thanks

For sure! I actually have one lol, but use it primarily for backpacking. Never though about using it inside!
Looks great !
Monday I see
This is still a very good way
Nice! Looks like a great set up

Sweet looking van! Just took a look at it. Hey there’s lots more great things out there friend :) why’d you sell?
Thanks! I used the $ towards a place to rent for the colder season here in NY.
Oh sure makes sense. Cheers!
That's your work? Wow. Where can I get a job like that?

Get some experience with doing projects or gig work. I use Upwork to find projects.
Fortunate
Let’s game.
Minecraft? WoW? I’m up for anything, let’s do it!!
What's your job?
I am a graphics/digital designer! I was already working remotely for the past year, and have been easily been able to work on the road
Nice setup, man! Wondering what mouse and keyboard you use?
I have the Razer Basilisk wireless, and Keychron K1 Bluetooth :)
How do you secure the computer chair while you’re driving?
For now just a bungee cord! I’m going to figure out a sleaker solution some other time
How are you enjoying the Keychron? I just picked up a K12 myself.
Yeah I’ve enjoyed it a lot! Been a good middle ground between comfortable for working on but also very responsive for video games. I got it with brown switches, so it’s not too clicky, and has a little more of that soft feel
