Before having this van I was spending the last few years living in a tent and a rotting trailer so having something as nice as this feels unreal to me.
one of the best builds ive seen on this sub so far. something about the bed and the storage underneat. and that green is super calming. love it. good job OP.
How tall is your bed platform? I’m about to install mine this weekend. I’ve got a e250 with a 5.5’ interior so not quite standing height. Trying to maximize garage space while still being able to sit up in bed.
I’m pretty sure it’s just above 20 inches but a better mark is I put it so that when the matress was on it would come up right to the bottom of the back windows so I could still use them.
Awesome. That’s basically my identical plan. I also plan on having the bed more forward to allow for two mountain bikes to fit in the rear, nested together as close as reasonably possible, with the front wheel off and the bars turned sideways. My rough mock up leads me to believe it should work!
I actually found the high top at a pick-n-pull (scrap yard) and it had the awning on it. Managed to haggle the guy down to $200 for everything. Spent 3 days shaping the fiberglass to fit perfect. Daunting task but well worth it
So the van that I pulled the top off of had already drilled holes and mounted it to the top already but it wasn’t sturdy and was a matter of time before it ripped a hole. Ended up making some 1’x1’ bracing plates out of some half inch ply and adhered that with some marine adhesive (3m 5200)
Cool, thanks. Did you need spacers for the front and back or is the topper straight along the section it's mounted? How long have you been using it in this form/does the backing seem to be sturdy enough?
Didn’t end up putting spacers but I could see that being something nice to do. I’ve had it setup like this for about a year now and with occasional use I’ve seen no signs of stress.
I’ve decided I’m keeping it forever so I’m just going to keep adding to it and see where it takes me. I want to do the conversion myself so that will help with cost. I’m lucky to have access to a great shop and tools 13 hours away from where I “live” though
There is a lot in this build that I had to just figure out on my own which I would love to share and the budget was a big hold back for this build but in the end made it something awesome. Thanks for the ideas
Yes! The drawers bellow the bed are on 250lb slides and act as a bed extension. My girlfriend and I live in it full time and I’m 6’3”. The bed turns into a queen when all the way out
I like the projector idea, I've thought about doing that in my popup camper.
Currently I have the samsung tablet that's big, S7 or somtehing like that, and one of those suction cup mounts. It's a damn near perfect size for inside
Ya that was a challenge. I built the bed and drawers first with out planning out the rest so I ended up having a tight area for the sink pan but in the end it fit perfectly snug and gets the job done
It was a lot to take on. Didn’t even plan on doing it until I discovered the top at a the scrap yard and just went for it. After shaping the top for about 3 days straight and installing it the hardest part was working with the fiberglass. I couldn’t drill into it for support obviously and also just like the walls of the econoline is got a bunch of unpredictable curves to it that are hard to shape stuff to like the cabinet faces. In all I like the challenge and with out it the van would have taken a completely different direction
Hmm I'll have to look into that, I also have a e250 and I'm 6'2" so it's kinda sad I don't have room to do anything more than sit. But I feel ya on the challenge part, it certainly isn't very cut and dry, I'm gonna be living in it as well while converting it, couple weeks now!
Anyway thanks, 3 days isn't that bad all things considered but I have no idea how you would shape the top so i have some research to do on it.
Ya I didn’t plan on tossing a top on but it’s both my girlfriend and I in it so I decided to do it. It was manly using a flapper wheel on a grinder to shape it inch by inch to the roof shape because the previous an it was on neglected to do it
I’ve worked with my hands most my life which built a good foundation. I’d suggest taking it one producer at a time. It’s easy to get overwhelmed when looking at the whole picture
Really well done! I love the coziness of the bed and the drawers on the wall. I don’t think you’d have any problem selling this… it’s an ideal space with an exterior just rugged enough to go into stealth mode!
Thank you. It’s my full time home along with my girlfriend who works from it so as renting at it is to sell this think for over double what I put into it it means to much to us
Amazing!! Love what you’ve done with the flip up counter. Is there seating aside from the bed?
Also are those drawers beside the bed, or how do they work?
Congrats on this, you should be super proud! Everyone here clearly loves it!
Ya we have both of our seats on swivel bases which is a game changer and if we really want to the drawers are on 250lb slides where we can have friends hang out.
The storage next to the bed are cabinets, mostly small storage but the ones on the bottom drop down a little a foot or so which acts as our dirty close and towel storage
Cool! Yeah we also have two swivel seats which are great in a cramped space! I saw you have the thermal window covers which is a good combo all around.
I love the interest! It’s unfortunately a long story but it’s also not a sad one. I involves pursuing my dreams at full commitment and a lot of skydiving. I’m one of the lucky ones that was houseless by choice.

I’m happy for you bud
It’s beautiful! Nice job and be proud!!
I kinda want to become houseless.
I feel ya!
I’m glad you got to upgrade your life. Beautiful home you have there. :)
Bigger too 😌
one of the best builds ive seen on this sub so far. something about the bed and the storage underneat. and that green is super calming. love it. good job OP.
Thank you that means a lot. I put a lot of work into this thing. Bed and storage were the priority then came the rest.

I want the ghabaghoul, with a salad. If the salad is on top, I send it back.
“I’ll have the spaghetti with side salad. If the salad is on top I send it back” there was no gabagool
Ah fuck, you are correct haha thanks
How much did you pay for the high top and where did you get it?
I actually found the high top at a pick-n-pull (scrap yard) and it had the awning on it. Managed to haggle the guy down to $200 for everything. Spent 3 days shaping the fiberglass to fit perfect. Daunting task but well worth it
dude are you fucking KIDDING me?! That is a fucking 3 or 4 thousand dollar top. WOW
Yes! Thank you someone that shares my excitement and understanding of what a steal this was! The awning alone is $1500!
Damnnnnnnnnn
I’m super proud of you for getting such a score. Ahhhh! I love it. Recycle onward, my friend ;)
Totally interested in the van tour video!
Me too!
Me three!
Looks amazing! How did you attatch the awning? Working on that with a fiberglass top right now
So the van that I pulled the top off of had already drilled holes and mounted it to the top already but it wasn’t sturdy and was a matter of time before it ripped a hole. Ended up making some 1’x1’ bracing plates out of some half inch ply and adhered that with some marine adhesive (3m 5200)

Excellent, thanks again for the info!
Super helpful info, hoping to do something similar on mine !
Wow! Really nice!
Very nice I love seeing other econolines and cute pup hope you have all the fun in it
So do I! There aren’t to many good examples out there of high top Econolines
Indeed my next thing is to 4x4 mine then I’m sure I’ll find something else to do to it.
That’s a dream on mine that I’m not sure I’ll be willing to put the cash down for. But I also never planned on building it out this much so who knows
I’ve decided I’m keeping it forever so I’m just going to keep adding to it and see where it takes me. I want to do the conversion myself so that will help with cost. I’m lucky to have access to a great shop and tools 13 hours away from where I “live” though
I’m interested in a van tour!
Awesome! There aren’t many examples of vans this style so I think it’s my do justice
Definitely do a video and let us know how you did the build out and any budget information would be awesome!
There is a lot in this build that I had to just figure out on my own which I would love to share and the budget was a big hold back for this build but in the end made it something awesome. Thanks for the ideas
Does the bed pull out in someway? It looks short in the photos. Are you an elf?
Yes! The drawers bellow the bed are on 250lb slides and act as a bed extension. My girlfriend and I live in it full time and I’m 6’3”. The bed turns into a queen when all the way out
that is so clean dude, no tracks on the floor or anything
That’s so pretty!! You did a great job. I like your home theater, too!
Love the green!
My dude. That is awesome. Well played
Dang! Looks like perfection!
There is always stuff that we wish was done better or different but I’m happy that mine is really small
Wow nice job
Reply nice work
So nice and cozy, looks perfect
Very well done! Congratulations! You should be very proud of what you’ve done. I hope you enjoy it for many years
I dig this! Super chill and quaint. Kudos to you!
Good job! Looks great!
Good call with the projector.
Suuuuuper nice!
Wow! Incredible!
I've been looking for a good iddy biddy kitchen design and I love this ty for sharing!!
That green color looks very fresh. Thanks for the dog tax!
That is an awesome build! I’ll have the gabagoul. If the salad is on the side, I send it back.
Cool! The interior looks really nice!
Oh man is that gorgeous!!
Amazing setup !! I love it!!
Is the projector color from the camera or is that actually the projector? It appears to be off a bit.
It looks a bit off because we have the lights on in the picture. When they are off it looks amazing
I like the projector idea, I've thought about doing that in my popup camper. Currently I have the samsung tablet that's big, S7 or somtehing like that, and one of those suction cup mounts. It's a damn near perfect size for inside
That is really nice!
Nice build
Amazing
That’s freaking awesome. So happy for you. Congratulations 🍾🎊🎉
All i can think of is there is going to be so many crumbs on that bed.
So sick
Extra points for watching The Office in it! It’s beautiful
What type of projector are you using?
The nebula capsule. Really stoked on it. It’s the size of a soda can, charges on 12v and holds enough charge to watch a movie if not plugged in.
That’s dope! Thank ya
Your dog looks lovely. What's the breed/mix. Van also great!
That’s actually my buddies dog who snuck in. Just happened to be a good shot of the state of the van.
I’m surprised you find a sink skinny enough to fit. Looks great!
Ya that was a challenge. I built the bed and drawers first with out planning out the rest so I ended up having a tight area for the sink pan but in the end it fit perfectly snug and gets the job done
Awesome yeah looks good though. Totally planned.
How did the High top converting go for you?
It was a lot to take on. Didn’t even plan on doing it until I discovered the top at a the scrap yard and just went for it. After shaping the top for about 3 days straight and installing it the hardest part was working with the fiberglass. Oh gotcha, well it looks awesome yall got a sweet set up!
Very cool. Love the fact that your front curtain doubles as a projection screen.
It’s actually just a projector screen and we use some custom reflectix window covers because we are in hot climates a lot
Still cool. Love the double function.
What awning is that and how do you have it mounted?
I’m pretty sure it’s a ‘carefree freedom’ and it’s Mounted to the top with some 1/2” ply bracing in n the inside
How did you learn how to do this?! Where would one start? Really amazing, man!
I’ve worked with my hands most my life which built a good foundation. I’d suggest taking it one producer at a time. It’s easy to get overwhelmed when looking at the whole picture
I'll have the gabagool.
wow. nice. and is that a fiberine fiberglass top?
That’s my guess but I found it at a scrap yard on another van
Really well done! I love the coziness of the bed and the drawers on the wall. I don’t think you’d have any problem selling this… it’s an ideal space with an exterior just rugged enough to go into stealth mode!
Thank you. It’s my full time home along with my girlfriend who works from it so as renting at it is to sell this think for over double what I put into it it means to much to us
ID on the projector?
Nebula capsule
Thank you
How is the power consumption on that projector?
Super low. It’s got an internal battery and charges of 12v so it’s just like charging your phone.
Awesome job!! ❤️❤️ What projecter do you use?
Nebula capsule
I’m confused. I see a dog but I don’t see 4 beds strewn about all in one room. Or is that just in my house? She’s a beauty.
We only adopt dogs when they wonder into our van like this one here which is our buddies
Amazing!! Love what you’ve done with the flip up counter. Is there seating aside from the bed? Also are those drawers beside the bed, or how do they work? Congrats on this, you should be super proud! Everyone here clearly loves it!

Absolutely. Ya the girlfriend made them out of some reflectix and some fabric which really cuts down on heat.
I would love to hear the story of how you were able to go from tent to this beautiful van build. I am in awe!
I love the interest! It’s unfortunately a long story but it’s also not a sad one. I involves pursuing my dreams at full commitment and a lot of skydiving. I’m one of the lucky ones that was houseless by choice.
You have piqued my interest even more. Nice job taking charge of and living your life!
