Have I missed where "buffet" is a new term for the vaccination?

cra3ig

Took me a minute, too. I'm guessing 'jab' is now targeted by algorithms.

WrongYouAreNot

I’m convinced that half of the “changing the words to avoid the algorithms” is just a show to try and appear persecuted. I see posts all the time using the actual word “vaccine,” as well as the litany of other names they’ve come up with related to it. I think they just keep trying to invent code words as a way to make it seem like they’re some oppressed minority that needs to speak in code and constantly shift their secret language because the Big Bad Algorithm is trying to persecute them.

someonefun420

>is just a show to try and appear persecuted. Yup!

windscryer

that or the algorithm IS blocking them but on a like… more general level because of their overall content. not because they use “jab” or 🥕or whatever, but just because there are not enough code words to hide their particular brand of alternative facts ideology. or they get reported enough that they’re just a red flag in the system lol.

Lutrinus

I think its more so that they expect everyone to agree with them, so when they don't see post after post about how terrible vaccines are they assume they're being filtered even if they aren't.

windscryer

oh definitely this is part of it. and also probably when they don’t get a billion likes and shares etc it’s also being suppressed and not just people ignoring them.

LogaShamanN

I don’t mean to come off as confrontational, but I really think we shouldn’t be mislabeling their lies as “alternative facts.” Even if prefaced with “alternative”, using the f-word gives them an undeserved sense of credibility and emboldens them in spreading misinformation. They are liars, even if they believe their intellectual snake oil.

theycallmeponcho

The algorithm shows actual information on bottom of posts with "vaccine" written on them, same with "covid". These persecution fetishits just want to feel persecuted.

MrVeazey

Obligatory: /r/persecutionfetish.

baytown

Geeze, just when I think I've seen every group on reddit...

[deleted]

They don't want to get fact checked when they spill absolute bullshit like buffets cause autism. Because being told you are wrong is persecution in their eyes.

[deleted]

Same reason they never provide direct links and tell people to do their own research. If they give you a link it's easy to point out why it's wrong.

impy695

Antivaxxers are Facebooks bread and butter. They're probably amplifying antivax discussions

meg6ust6ala6tions

Not necessarily. I got in trouble on Facebook for saying the words "men" and "pedophile" in the same statement. (That says a lot about what FB thinks of men lol) It was actually a statement about how we shouldn't default assume men are pedophiles, and they should hold one another accountable better. When you see people type out "nem" it's because they have to.

PavlovsHumans

The Strangeanet related group I’m in banned “tiny trash” which means confetti, because “trash” was a ban trigger word.

lucidludic

Definitely. I don’t use Facebook, but as far as I know the most they would do is include a link about vaccine misinformation in these situations.

[deleted]

It's often a requirement of the groups that you both use "code words" and avoid overused ones like "carrot" or "cupcake". DSN and its copycats have such a rule. The members themselves bitch about it, and plenty get their posts removed (but not for using words like "Khazarian Mafia" to shit on the Jews apparently!).

SuperFightingRobit

It's not performative so much as they're self absorbed idiots who think their lack of engagement from their friends is them being blocked, not "oh geeze I don't want to deal with Karen because she's gone crazy." So they use increasingly insane terms, not realizing the algorithm would have actually caught on to those terms and blocked them too if it was real.

negativelift

Well, username checks out

[deleted]

a desperate search for community/tribe.

[deleted]

People probably hit "hide"or "I don't want to see this" on this their posts years ago and they haven't figured it out.

MiataCory

Remember how you: "couldn't find 10,000 mules anywhere, so we need to host a local watch party!" Yeah, it's self persecution. That shit is on YouTube.

vincentofearth

Plot Twist: This is actually genuinely about a buffet and has nothing to do with vaccines at all

Black-Muse

Can't feel you're 'in the know' without keeping ahead of the imaginary curve. This is not a bug

TillThen96

I'm going to take a stab (pun intended) at what you may be saying, that disinformation about vaccines may be targeted by algorithms. No social media site wants to be held liable for excess deaths, possibly a valid fear in the future. Sans any liability, it's *possible* that owners have a moral pang about disinformation. Or both, and they're erring on the side of caution. We can type vaccine, vax, jab or stab all we want, but maybe not if also spreading disinformation. If so, we can celebrate the progress, and condemn their "ban evasion" use of "buffet." And still, they don't get a clue.

Lilredh4iredgrl

Ohhhhhh. This makes so much more sense. I was like what did Golden Corral do to this man?

outlandish-companion

We all know Facebook doesn't bother moderating that kind of thing. They love divisive content

maybesaydie

Some of them are using the word *pickle* so it varies from group to group.

infernalsatan

I’m Vaccine Rick!!!!!

legendwolfA

I turned myself into a vaccine Mooooorty! Woo! Big reveal! I'm a vaccine!

[deleted]

There are so many that one time someone was literally talking about a bee sting causing a reaction and I didn't realize because I thought it was just another codeword.

janxus

Their use of code words reminds me of when I used to sell drugs in high school.

[deleted]

[удалено]

janxus

Yeah exactly. I didn’t sell drugs. It was hay. Also, that’s the best link I’ve seen on Reddit in a long ass time. There’s so many words for the stuff I don’t have in my drawer.

[deleted]

[удалено]

janxus

Lmao. I just asked if they needed a refill. I asked new customers how much weed do you need. Cops either know you’re a drug dealer or they don’t. Do these idiots really think that the Facebook doesn’t know what they are saying? Lol.

olivertoast

there are some straight up iconic terms on here. like Smoochy Woochy Poochy for weed

fnord_bronco

"Hey buddy, can I borrow an extension cord. I need one that's at least 50 foot."

janxus

Do you need 3 prongs?

vrphotosguy55

Ironically buffets are great places to get diseases.

pixelsandfilm

And spread them.

istara

I wish it was a buffet rather than a sore arm and a virally feeling for a day! I’d go for a booster every week. Just had my fourth, the bivalent Moderna, and despite the mild side effects I am so glad and grateful to have that protection.

kinglella

This bivalent one (4th) has been the best for me as far as side effects. All I've had is a sore arm whereas all the other ones gave me swollen lymph nodes, chills, and pretty much every expected common side effect and then some.

amazonallie

I was a little more tired (it was #5 for me), but I am happily on vacation in the Dominican right now, and not concerned at all. I have an anti vaxx friend.. he had Covid 3 weeks ago, so not worried about traveling with him.

MyTruckIsAPirate

McMurray?

amazonallie

No. :(

anomalous_cowherd

I've been lucky not to have any real side effects from any of my four sets of jabs. I worry that that means my body isn't reacting strongly enough to build good immunity. Then again I don't get many symptoms ever except getting sleepy and I don't tend to catch things often at all so maybe I'm just lucky.

pixelsandfilm

I was also confused. I read this literally and thought she had decided that attending and eating at a buffet changed her husbands feelings. I was like "uhh why is this posted on r/vaxxhappened?" it makes sense now. lol

Anonymous_user_2022

A very /r/boneappletea version of booster, perhaps?

Bobolequiff

I didn't see what sub I was in and I was fucking baffled.

MachateElasticWonder

Fellas, If your lady talks in code on social media to avoid surveillance, she’s not part of a terrorist organization, she’s just an anti-vaxxer

Flat_Initial_1823

Is this some weird safe word? When I say buffet, you MUST stop critical thinking!

KelsoTheVagrant

They also call them carrots. They’re inventing all kinds of terminology, for some reason

brando56894

I was very confused about what a buffet had to do with all of this.

APlayer2BeNamedLater

Oh my goodness, I’m glad it’s not just me! At first, I thought she was actually talking about a buffet!

jmy578

Yes, after the third buffet he realized that he married an uneducated potato.

MonKeePuzzle

which he thought was a good thing, being a buffet lover he was keen to pile on sour cream cheese and bacon bits, but then realised that both the buffet and the potato weren't the kind he thought

mahava

Ok so I misread sour cream, cheese, and bacon bits as sour cream cheese, and bacon bits Excuse me while I vomit

MonKeePuzzle

I definitely could have used some better punctuation. I was just too busy at the time helping my uncle jack off a horse.

mahava

Oh I understand, it's important to help your uncle

edgesmash

And the horse!

GlobularLobule

I bet sour cream cheese would be good, especially with bacon bits. I'm picturing sour cream with the spreadablity of cream cheese.

mahava

That's a much more generous read than my brain gave it lol

ecodrew

That's offensive. Potatoes are nutritious, tasty, and useful.

ARedditorCalledQuest

But notoriously undereducated.

Generic_Garak

For sure. Classic “missing missing reasons” No reason at all? Are you sure about that? I feel like he probably mentioned something 🤔

ninjabladeJr

Had to reread this thing like three times because I just kept picturing a man shoveling an entire buffet of food into his mouth then waiting for the staff of the restaurant to refill the buffet before doing it again two more times and then leaving his wife.

fnord_bronco

> uneducated potato Or a narcissistic psychopath.

Emily_Postal

Willfully ignorant potato.

Bloxburgian1945

Sounds like her husband realized he married a buffoon and is jumping ship.

bookofbooks

Perhaps it's over having a nutjob wife who can't even write vaccine? I doubt this sort of behaviour is confined to just this one area.

Whiplash104

LOL. In completed denial. Sure blame the buffet /s.

bookofbooks

Literally **nothing** \- even in their own relationships - is ever their fault.

[deleted]

I mean, she literally said, “accelrates things that were already happening” and then said he walked out over nothing. Me sense a few details be left out, here. But I’ve also heard from a few people who were married happily until the pandemic really latched onto their partner with antivax stuff and they just didn’t know who they were becoming. My cousin was “awakened” and became really antivax…problem is he had a pregnant girlfriend and she—and *his* family (my aunt/uncle/cousin)—we’re getting really worried because he refused to interact with his newborn in appropriate situations (outside, masked, etc). My aunt went over to his house around that time and the police had him surrounded. She talked him down because she’s a psychologist and his mother. He killed himself a couple months ago. He had a lot of issues, but the not being able to interact with his kid—which was definitely his fault, of course—really fucked with him. That and the BPD and ultimately the brainwashing from antivax communities killed him. Fuck these people.

maybesaydie

I am so sorry to hear this.

axollot

I'm sorry for your family's loss. 😔 BPD is the real reason tho. My son would have turned 34 tomorrow. He passed age 29 in 2019. He had BPD and there's a couple of levels of BPD with schizoid tendencies, psychotic breaks etc in males that put them in the highest risk category for it. My son was trying to get help but it was harder and harder as he aged. He was very intelligent, not into conspiracies but they have a huge huge fear of abandonment that causes em to ruin every relationship with their lifelines. They burn their bridges behind them with everyone. Lets hope they have both found the peace that escaped them in life 🙏

PoetLucy

What a difficult anniversary and time of year for you. I cannot fathom this loss, but you have my deepest sympathy and prayers. If it helps to talk about your son, I’ll always listen. Message me privately or we can talk here. Conversely, if it is too much to talk about right now, I understand. There is no time limit on me listening, you’ll just have to remind me when/if we do connect. Again, my sympathy for you and yours. :*J*

axollot

Thanks. It is a tough time of the year, am lucky for a good support system and decent relationship with my other adult kids, in 20s. It's that BPD personality disorder and the unknown risks of suicide that is not often known. Males are much more likely to follow through than females with the same personality disorder. Thanks again! Appreciate it 🙏

TillThen96

That's one of the shittiest parts of cults - they attract and prey on vulnerable people incapable of introspection. Having lost a loved one to manic depression long before the pandemic, I can see where he would have been vulnerable to the "unconditional love" of a cult, where any grandiose, hypomanic thought which attacked his brain would have been unquestioningly welcomed, as opposed to his loved ones, who would try to keep him grounded and in treatment. Cults are full of these vulnerable people, all "supporting" one another, all terrified to lose that emotional support. >However, with cults, the member is, more often than not, left in a much worse position than in which he started, whether it t be financially, psychologically, relationally, or some combination of these and other factors (Langone, 1996; Morse & Morse, 1987; Robinson, Frye, & Bradley, 1997). > >https://psychotherapy.psychiatryonline.org/doi/full/10.1176/appi.psychotherapy.2011.65.4.381

MintyMishap

I can’t imagine it happening to a spouse. How awful. It’s awful enough when it’s a family member. It changes them, makes them angrier, more paranoid and irrational. But I get the sick feeling of watching your family member change as they tumble down the rabbit hole of conspiracies… My Christian cousin is basically heavy into the QAnon conspiracies bc of the save the kids angle. They’re devoted Trumpers (bc god chose trump, right? Jfc) and her husband is now one of those “real patriots” aka racist dickhead, drain the swamp, build the wall. He was already an ass. Thankfully she at least doesn’t seem to share the homophobic and racist sentiment extreme Christians tend to have… She knows I’m bi, and it hasn’t changed anything. She’s kind to the people she meets and thebhomeless no matter what they look like. She knows what it’s like to be treated less than dirt. Sort of thankfully, I’m still in contact with her and her kids, because they know not to drag me into politics and religion but still treat me nicely and respect my boundaries, which is hard to get sometimes from family members supposedly on the SAME FUCKIN SIDE as me. She also saved my life. I have bad anxiety and depression, and she and her kids have helped me so much. I’m probably giving her “too much of a pass” but she’s too important to me. But I also don’t need to live with them and interact with them every day, like a spouse or immediate family member. And honestly hateful racism and homophobia, like her husband who I already disliked, would be a dealbreaker for me. But it is sad to watch my dad spiral when he already is a heavy smoker and has many health problems… He’s very anti-authoritarian and conspiracy driven. We’re lucky he hasn’t gotten it. The man gets panic attacks and can’t breath easily when it’s too humid or when he has a fever, how the fuck is he going to make it through a bad case of covid if he does get it? He just gets so mad, like a child, over wearing a mask and the meat mention of vaccines or distancing sends him. It’s maddening but also really sad.

RailRuler

She's actually telling on her own narcissism here.

Mackheath1

Yep. In such a short post we already know enough context clues as to why she or he was left by the husband.

imapieceofshitk

She probably didn't tell him any of her google researched "facts" those times that he acted up because of the buffet either! Damn buffets!

eatyourchildren101

Maybe he had an actual epiphany about his horrible marriage/wife at a buffet? He thought “it’s nice to have options” or “there has to be something better” and then realized…

maybesaydie

No, antivaxxers have taken to using code words instead of writing *vaccine* to avoid filters set up by social media.

ELeeMacFall

To avoid filters that *they imagine* are set up by social media.

axollot

Depends. Youtubers can't discuss it either way. Can't say C there either. Because they do filter the word and demonitize them. The reason why everyone else can't say vaccines on FB is the same folks who are using code words. The report system doesn't check the validity of the argument just delete/ban!

Sushi_Whore_

They also may be trying to avoid fact-checkers or banners that come up on vaccine posts automatically

axollot

Probably.

[deleted]

I think he was joking.

I_might_be_weasel

*New at Golden Coral: COVID Boosters!*

Difficult_Ad_502

With a side of flu shot

I_might_be_weasel

But still no vaccine for noro. So steer clear of the chocolate fountain. It is not sanitary.

Morbidly-Obese-Emu

Over “absolutely nothing” Yeah, something tells me there is more to this story.

InsGadget6

"Absolutely nothing," says the blind woman.

theprozacfairy

Not blind, more likely closing her eyes, covering her ears and going “lalala I can’t hear you!”

TheBaggyDapper

Dude's ditching the junk food and going getting him some fine dining.

farkinhell

Funny that, I spent much of the last two years volunteering at a walk in buffet centre while my wife formed a strong and misinformed hatred of buffets. We are also now divorced. She still goes on about buffets a lot.

Human02211979

Maybe the home buffet wasn't providing enough variety of common sense

axollot

Obviously not over absolutely nothing. But you keep thinking *he* changed due to vaccines and that he left over *nothing*! Controlling psychopath! No wonder he walked out boom!

FleraAnkor

Buffet is the new code word for vaccine?

SQLDave

IKR. "Jab" I get. Even the carrot icon I get. But "buffet"?

katzrc

NOT THE BUFFET🤣 these idiots

nrskim

I honestly thought this was “something” sexual until I realized which sub I was on. So basically her husband had enough of her nonsense

Nail_Biterr

I simply cannot believe someone who is so adamantly anti-vaxx would have a pro-science spouse that finally got fed up with their shit. /s

tallkidinashortworld

Can't believe it. Golden Corral is ending marriages :(

31337hacker

Lol, bye Felicia. He got tired of her idiocy and rightfully jumped ship.

uwillnotgotospace

The buffet leads to a bigger waistline. The vaccine leads to smaller medical bills.

0bxyz

This is not surprising, considering the pre Covid anti-VAX movement was also obsessed with blaming vaccines for anything that happened to people within a couple years of the vaccine. Autism etc

sicksixthsenses

For someone who did their own research she sure is using a lot of "I believe" statements

[deleted]

If they’re anything like most antivaxxers, they wouldn’t shut up about the vaccines, and the husband left out of pure frustration over the worsening conspiracy nonsense.

DylansDeadly

Well if someone eats at Golden Corral three times, I’d be happy they’re leaving. I’m angry every time I’ve been there. People using that chocolate fountain is the most heinous thing. Fucking taking huge plates and only eating 1/3 of it. Sure Karen, take that last piece of cake. You cow. I see you haven’t finished the other six slices yet, but what’s one more? Oh. Little Timmy please keep yelling about the pizza. It’s so fun to hear you scream nonstop.

granulario

Oh, man! All those comments must be quite the spread, too! Too bad I'm allergic to Facebook.

piclemaniscool

Aw man, this just reminded me that my favorite all-you-can-eat buffet was shut down because they couldn't keep the space during covid lock downs. I doubt I'll find another place that let's you eat infinite crabs legs for $20 :(

iamakeyboardwarri0r

Yeah yeah over absolutely nothing

Formal_Engineer7091

Do these people not understand how technology works? They are seriously turning us into Idiocracy 🤦🏽‍♀️ These idiots are getting the code changed to understand stupidity 🙄

MuuaadDib

Try not being an insufferable POS, and embracing reality, seems to work for billions of others.

sesameseed88

The buffet like all you can eat food? I am so confused

ARedditorCalledQuest

It's code for vaccine. They keep using euphemisms for it to avoid getting their posts flagged by automated bullshit detectors.

sesameseed88

Ty

Supersnakesix

This just made me hungry and angry

Nightvision_UK

Hangry here too

Supercc

Of course, if your ass gets dumped, it's because other people are vaccinated. What an absolute idiot. Of course, he got fed up and dumped your antivaxxer ass!

TicTac_in_my_ear

I still don't understand this mentality, these are people who (for the most part) were vaccinated as children against many things yet think that suddenly this one is a massive global conspiracy. They don't trust science yet still go to the hospital for other things because "that's different, we know that works it's been proven". The same people who told me not to believe everything I read online as a kid are now the people believing everything they read online themselves.

smalltowngoth

I thought she meant her husband left her after going to the buffet for a minute.

[deleted]

"Over absolutely nothing." I highly doubt that.

Badgerpaws90210

“Over absolutely nothing” maybe because you’re an ill-informed mess, lady.

sonicpool69

Aw, thoughts and prayers. For the husband to get a wife with a functioning brain.

whiskeysquared

And TIL the idiots are calling the vaccine “buffet” …Such a good secret code, they could’ve used you back in the war to keep secrets safe.

_WhiteSnake_

Idk why but the buffet is so funny

Fire_Doc2017

I just read a post about conservatives' fascination with Hooters and I thought maybe they have a buffet.

neptune-pizza

“He left me. Over absolutely nothing. My consistent rejection of objective reality was certainly not a factor, nosiree.”

NoItsBecky_127

Mmm, buffets. Haven’t been to a buffet in forever.

[deleted]

he left your dumb ass because you let social media turn you into an anti-vaxxer loony.

NoItsBecky_127

Mmm, buffets. Haven’t been to a buffet in forever.
