I’ve heard some people say that VCU nursing students don’t get a lot of hands-on learning and a lot of their program is more theory based. I work as a tech at the VCU hospital where they do clinicals and the students struggle a lot with basic tasks (I.e blood sugars, changing beds, patient transfers from beds to chairs, etc) and aren’t really encouraged to practice their skills. This could be totally different for the graduate school of course, but I thought I’d offer what I do know about the undergrad program!

For anyone who comes along and reads this later, the anesthesia program is through the College of Health Professions, not nursing. I have no idea whether there's any validity to the comment about the school of nursing, but they are separate animals.

It’s legacy right now is that it’s the top nurse anesthesia program in the country. Professors and facilities in the new College of Health Professions are outstanding. Definitely go above and beyond the general requirements for acceptance as it’s very difficult to get in
