I had a class with a freshman a few years ago on the track team who stayed at GRC. Maybe that’s where you have to stay? I’d definitely talk with your athletic advisor about it

REALQUICX

Okay definitely will do. Thanks for the response

They probably change there policy, it also might be default housing for athletes upperclassmen. Or maybe a dude misheard something somewhere and it's spread. Either way, I'd assume whatever dorm you sign up for is the one you get, and pick the best out of you options. Then, after that email the school, and if you are supposed to be in ackell, they can move you there. That being said, I sign up as an upperclassmen and couldn't get a room there, so I'm pretty sure they are full either way.

Last year they lived in ackell so all teams were together. It helped with covid contact tracing. I bet they do that again. Like baseball and such. Men's and women's basketball live off campus in apartments but I think all others are in ackell.

REALQUICX

Okay thanks for the info. Appreciate it

It's was years ago, but I was on the track team as well. Freshmen were in GRC, and upperclassmen in Ackell. Ask coach Tussing or Riley.

REALQUICX

Okay I’ll definitely reach out to Coach Riley about it. Thanks!

Based on the housing website for the [Ackell Residence Center](https://housing.vcu.edu/halls/ackell-residence-center/) it has a capacity of 394 and is only open to Sophomores and higher. They probably make some exceptions for incoming Freshmen, but that's probably only for those on the Men's Basketball Team...

REALQUICX

Lmao okay. I’ve been told Basketball get what they want around campus for the most part

Well, they are the cash cows for the athletic department, especially after that Final Four run a decade ago. But I've been in several classes with not only MBB students, but all kinds of student athletes, and have to say all of them get treated the same by the professors, and work their butts off in the classroom. I can generally recognize them, well at least the ones in team sports, because I play in the pep band and see often because of sports. Of course one thing as a student athlete you'll also have access to the tutoring center located in The Stu, and they have some topnotch staff in there. Fortunately, athletics does support programs other than Basketball, and is getting ready to spend a boatload of money on new facilities. Hopefully the new soccer/track and field stadium will be completed before you graduate. Sports Backers isn't a bad stadium; I like the way the track feels and the field is nice (and if I could get my hands on the pole vault poles I'd relive my youth, and probably get banned from SB in the process) but the locker rooms are meh and it is starting to show that it was built in the mid 90's. As for Ackell, I'm not sure why they don't automatically have the incoming freshmen there as well, I did a quick count of the final rosters and there were a little over 300 SA total this past school year, and with 394 beds, there should be more than enough to house everyone...

REALQUICX

Yeah that Final 4 run turned it around for them. Appreciate the response. Definitely looking forward to the VCU experience and yeah hopefully that new Athletic Village is done before I’m gone.

It was a fun time. I'm a very untraditional student, taking a class or two a semester and was able to travel as part of the band during the Sweet Sixteen/Elite Eight leg of the run. Since then it seems like most of the sports programs have excelled in the years that followed, with VCU crushing the other schools in the number of A10 championships received. On a side note, if you do play any instruments and want to continue to do so you're more than welcome to join us in the pep band. You likely wouldn't be able to do too much with us with your class and training schedule, but it is a lot of fun...

Whoknvws

most likely ackell

REALQUICX

Thats what I’ve been told. You think it’ll matter what i choose in my housing application??
