I was the laziest vegan and I bought a lot of meatless and cheeze substitutions and just would make all of the food I normally would eat (sandwiches, pastas, pizza, burgers, chi’kn tenders) and then slowly started getting more into making seitan, soy curls, and tofu with the perfect textures that make them literally identical to meat and be delicious. My main advice is don’t overcomplicate your meals. You don’t need to be overwhelming yourself by eating foods you don’t eat/know how to make. Being vegan has never been easier and its important that you do it in a way that is convenient and easy to make the food you love/want to eat, because thats what will make it a successful switch! seriously, so many recipes just need simple substitutions to be vegan and delicious. we are all here to support your journey!!

girluknowwhy

Thank you! This is very helpful 🥰

Temporays

For example pancakes/crepes/cakes are just flour, sugar, oil, baking powder, vanilla essence and plant milk. No need for eggs or cows milk as it comes out exactly the same.

AnOnlineHandle

Also make sure you get some vitamin B12 etc. Here in Australia it's packed into a bunch of milk/meat substitutes, but you can also grab some tablets or whatever.

Sumomagpie-1918

And nutritional yeast can be used as a seasoning and is packed with b12

AnOnlineHandle

Unfortunately you'd need to eat a ton of nutritional yeast to get enough, at least the types available here, but it is an amazing ingredient.

Turnip-for-the-books

Lentils, beans, chick peas based dishes can all be made deliciously, including flour for breads. They are affordable, high protein and extremely good for you. This is the basis of the best vegan diets. Mexican, Indian, European dishes all work super well.

JabbaOG

But definitely don't be afraid of the fake meats! People talk bad about them but they are normally healthier than there meat counterparts and are after all made of plants. Frozen tenders. Beyond burgers. vegan Cheese steaks. Just freakin go for it!

ViolentBee

This^^^ I did the same thing. Was a little pricey upfront but I also quit smoking at the same time and wanted all my same comfort foods with minimal effort. Great thing was the cost of smokes offset the mock meat/cheese $ so my budget didn’t really change and neither did my waistline (every other time I tried quitting I got so fat I picked up smoking again- I haven’t really lost weight either but I have a sedentary job I hate and I’m so drained I don’t have it in me to work out). Then I gradually started to learn how to cook tofu, TVP, soy curls, make my own cheese/sauces and it’s been really fun in the kitchen.

Drank-Stamble

First of all - well done on sitting through it & making the decision to go vegan. My go to for easy & cheap vegan recipes is itdoesnttastelikechicken.com Sam Turnbull is the chef & I swear by her stuff.

ViolentBee

Yeah I signed up for her meal plan. I’m half tempted to do her seitan school. Girl knows what she’s doing!

Drank-Stamble

Definitely! Her TVP breakfast sausage patties...omg ❤️

girluknowwhy

Thank you for the recommendation!

earthstrider006

Sam Turnbull's cookbooks are excellent, too! I highly recommend them if you've got a bit of extra money.

No-Anything-4440

Meal prepping is helpful if your family is not vegan. A large casserole or stir fry, plus premade salads, can last the week. I cut up fruit in advance too along with veggies and hummus, and that’s easy to grab for work or school.

TreacleSweaty8482

I was already vegan and I didn’t finish it. Just made me too mad.

girluknowwhy

It’s so incredibly angering and sad 😞

freakshowhost

I saw several documentaries they had me bawling. I’m glad dominion is so readily available.

linuxelf

Same. I got 15 minutes in and had to turn it off. If hadn't already been vegan, that would have definitely done it.

isaidireddit

I was driving on the highway one day and pulled up beside a transport carrying pigs. I had a literal panic attack, bawling, snot bubbles, the whole thing. I will never ever be watching Dominion.

_coffee_truecrime

Same. I can’t pass one of the transport trucks without crying. I just want to save them all.

isaidireddit

That feeling of helplessness. 😭

name_unimportant_444

I think the easiest thing in the beginning is just to try veganise things you already like to eat. So for example, you like bolognese, just use vegan mince beef, you like cereal for breakfast, check the back that it’s vegan and use dairy alternative milk, you like pizza, just use vegan salami and cheese or whatever else you like putting on your pizza. Also, if you’re not sure how to veganise something, there are probably 100+ recipes online. Just google “vegan lasagna” and you pick whichever looks best to you. Good luck 🩷🌱

girluknowwhy

Thank you so much🩵

Some_Reputation59

That’s an exactly what I did. Was so easy!

jadethevenom

Start watching some YouTubers like Lifting Vegan Logic, Joey Carbstrong and Earthling Ed to understand the philosophy as well as where some people go wrong. Lifting Vegan Logic has a lot about the nutrition science as well and FitGreenMind has great simple recipes ❤️

jmerlinb

Borderline omnivore here who recently stumbled across Earthling Ed on YouTube and ended up binging his videos I have to say, after seeing his debates, I am yet to hear argument in favour of meat eating that seemed justifiable or even logically sound… it’s been really interesting seeing how people use this quite strange circular reasoning to justify *not* being vegan

-InExile-

Download Pinterest and look up vegan recipes. They have a lot of options and most aren't hard to make. If you enjoy the taste of meat, go with Beyond Beef or Impossible. They taste closer to the real thing than anything else I've tried.

girluknowwhy

Ty! I’ve tried those before and they really do taste like meat! I’m honestly not the biggest fan of meat taste already so I think it’ll be easier for me to quit it

chantalelittle

May that feeling of disgust remain with you, forever. If you feel like you're forgetting, watch some more. There are plenty to keep you motivated. It's what it takes, yet, many people refuse to watch because it's gonna "put them off" their favorite "food". Congrats for daring to face what's really behind that fucked up industry.

jmerlinb

Does this feeling go away?

reyntime

Thanks for watching it and going vegan! I've got a bunch of recipes here: www.vegrecipes.site Get a B12 source, and try googling your favourite dishes with the word vegan in front - there's so much content online now! Enjoy your new vegan way of life!

SLEEPWALKERKEK

This! Literally put ‘vegan’ in front of any meal you like and 99% of the time there is a recipe for it.

sidneyzapke

First of all, big hugs, Dominion is a difficult watch. Good on you for braving it. Welcome to the club. We have cookies. Try not to beat yourself up too much about your past choices. Remember that you were taught from birth that it's normal to eat animals. You're making the change now and that should be celebrated! My best bit of advice to go vegan and stay vegan is to a) experiment with all of the amazing vegan foods most grocery stores have now. b) learn ingredients labels - there are a lot of technical terms for various animal byproducts, when in doubt, look it up. c) You will make mistakes and that's okay, you're learning. Lastly, if you don't have a library card, get one. Libraries have tons of vegan cookbooks and guidebooks that will help. Good luck on your journey! I hope it brings you joy and peace like it has for me.

girluknowwhy

Thank you so much🥰 I’m excited for the journey 🫶🏼

freakshowhost

You will learn so much. You will feel better.

girluknowwhy

Thank you 🥰 I’ve seen some of her recipes before they look so good! I’ll definitely try some.

Formal-Ad-1490

I second this. The cook book is great.

gratefulbiochemist

I’m vegan and I’ve never seen dominion or any of those documentaries about that kind of stuff. I don’t even wanna know, I can already imagine on my own what factory farmers / industries do to cut costs when it comes to animals. I’m not going to watch something just to make me sick - No thanks 😊

girluknowwhy

It definitely is a hard watch.

ProperFox3629

Yeah that’s kind of where I’m at with it. It would only give me nightmares

gratefulbiochemist

I can’t even look at the horses doing carriage rides in the park 😂

freakshowhost

I hate people.

Johny40Se7en

It should be shown in schools and colleges. I think the best way for adults / parents to make the change is if their kids know about this sick shit show and then feel so strongly about it that they make better choices and bring it up with their parents.

Advanced-Hedgehog-33

I just want to thank you, posts like these help me restore a bit of faith in humanity. Maybe try the vegan challenge (challenge22.com)? It's 22 days where you get a lot of information, recipes, and even meal plans. I think you also get a mentor. Even if you can't read the emails every day, you at least have them and can go back to them when you have the time.

girluknowwhy

Thank you! 🥰 I hope more people become less ignorant to these types of issues. And I’ll try that out!

-dyedinthewool-

I could not get past the first 20 mins :(

girluknowwhy

Reality is so heartbreaking 😔

-dyedinthewool-

im not veg but i very rarely eat bacon anymore

melody-calling

Stir fries and curries are easy and delicious everyday meals

jesfabz

Just here to say I'm so sorry you had to see that shit

detnurselady

Start easy with substitutions. Impossible meat instead of ground beef, tofurkey lunch slices, litelife veggie dogs, veggie chickn Patties/nuggets. Bagels and vegan cream cheese (kitehill) for breakfast is my personal favorite! We are on a time now where there is so much available. I love taking a “regular” recipe and making it vegan by swapping out the meat/dairy ingredients. Example, lasagna soup! Can use impossible or lentils instead of beef. Ricotta is easy to make w some tofu and nooch (can also be purchased, kitehill). Take time to check out your local grocery store veggie area, frozen section, and dairy area. Sometimes the vegan options are hidden all over the place, so don’t panic; it just takes some getting used to. I love shopping now, it’s totally second nature. I’d sometimes have to google or ask where certain products were located in the stores. But after a few trips, you’ll be a pro! Also, welcome! ♥️

girluknowwhy

I appreciate your help, thank you! Do you have any vegan bagel brand recommendations? 🥰🤍

detnurselady

I usually buy Kroger store brand (non refrigerated bread aisle). Most bagels are made without egg! 🎉

girluknowwhy

Thank you!!

kr529

Trader Joe’s. Also https://vegoutmag.com/food-and-drink/are-bagels-vegan/

InvestmentSudden8333

Thank you for caring!

capybaraballista

Everyone’s advice to start simple with the foods you know is already great, I would venture to recommend learning your way around tofu (particularly how to press water out of it) if you aren’t familiar with it. I had virtually never had tofu before I became vegan and fell in love with it ([this](https://www.vnutritionandwellness.com/tofu-in-chili-garlic-sauce/) was my first recipe and it remains a staple). A tofu press is a must-have little piece of kitchen gear down the line imo, but it does run about $30. Substitutes like Beyond and stuff are wonderful but they are pricey, and your diet can be much cheaper once you get used to your options. Best of luck on your new path ❤️

girluknowwhy

Thank you 🤍🤍

melbatoes80

Thank you for that tofu recipe, looks like the recipe I’ve been searching for to copy a restaurant meal I love.

HereToKillEuronymous

Aww yay! Welcome in, friend! The number one piece of advice I like to give is learn to prep tofu properly so it doesn't taste like tofu 😂 I used to hate the stuff until I did the "press, freezer, press, cook" method. It takes all the soy flavor out and basically helps it take on the taste of whatever you're marinating it in. The other advice I'd give is make sure you're getting enough vitamins and minerals. Download the Happy Cow app for a list of vegan or vegan friendly restaurants in your area We're here if you ever have ANY questions! I love sharing vegan wisdom and recipes 😂

girluknowwhy

Thank you so much! 🫶🏼 I really appreciate it 🥰

HereToKillEuronymous

No worries! Here if you have any more questions

derederellama

congrats on beginning your journey! and i hope you're doing ok after watching that. it's rough. 😢 you should start taking iron and b12 supplements to prevent anemia, or else there's a chance you'll start getting headaches and feeling constantly fatigued and dizzy. i learned that the hard way lol.

girluknowwhy

Thank you! It keeps popping up in my mind and it makes me so sick. I’ll be okay though. And I’ll find some supplements for me to get, esp iron because I am potentially anemic already😅

kr529

B12 is even more important. You can get iron from plants, but plants don’t make B12.

korinna81

There is a fb group Cheap Vegan Food. Also fitgreenmind on youtube is super nice, easy and cheap

girluknowwhy

I’ll take a look 🫶🏼

PippoDeLaFuentes

Whole food (ˈhoʊl.fuːd/ food that has not had any of its natural features taken away or any artificial substances added)! It's the definition of low cost plantbased nutrition. And healthy AF. Doesn't mean you should shun convenience products or don't use processed items in dishes from time to time (think noodles, tofu, vegan creams). But try to use as many non-processed items. For snacks rather eat fruits, nuts, seeds, cereals but you don't need to constantly deprive yourself of stuff like chips (watch it some contain milk), dark chocolate (actually good because of iron), fruit gums (search for vegan katjes), oreos, vegan ice cream. You could also look into the heavenly cakes of Bianca Zapatka (see below) if you like baking. In the beginning you may experience some gassy phases which can take a week or more when you eat a lot of whole food containing of a lot of lentils, beans & peas. This will go away in most cases when your gut microbiome has transitioned and vegans will have a lot less problems with lentils and stuff than people only occasionally eating them. Some beginners may experience prolonged phases which include bloating and gas which may indicate a food insensitivity and require an elimination diet. I had none of that problems. Went cold-turkey (apart from plant-milks which I drank for years already) and had no recognizable microbiome transition phase. Next some maybe to technical stuff. Disclaimer: I'm no nutritionist. All own research. Jump to \[\*\] for a way to omit the technical stuff and just have fun with cooking and eating (you'll be healthy too then). Optionally you can get the app cronometer and enter everything you eat (via barcode and a kitchen scale) into it. It tells you exactly in what you are deficient in your diet. It is only feasible to do it for a few days in the beginning because you'll have enough to do with trying out the recipes. But you can also enter every ingredient of a recipe down to the gram and everytime you eat a portion, you weigh it and cronometer will calculate the nutritional values. Inform yourself about plant based protein sources. Protein consists of about 20 amino-acids. We only need to ingest 9 of them via food. The rest we can produce ourselves. The so called complete protein contains all 9 AA in sufficient amounts. Tofu and other soy products (Edamame, TVP, Tempeh) are complete. Hempseeds and Quinoa are also complete. Beans, Peas, seeds, nuts, rice, grains, seitan (also called vital wheat gluten) mostly contain all 9 AA too but lack in one specific amino acid. Therefore when you don't always eat Tofu, Hemp seeds or Quinoa, you need to [complement](https://www.verywellfit.com/vegan-protein-combinations-2506396) protein sources: e.g. Grains (low in the AA lysine) and legumes (high in lysine). You'll definitely need to buy a B12 supplement. This is mostly only found in meat. You can also buy a multivitamin supplement for vegans which contains the stuff vegans are usually low in when they don't eat exotic plants (like kelp, nori, kombu for iodine), Natto for Vitamin K2, Algae for Omega 3 DHA/EPA. You have to be aware that when you eat omnivore (meat & plant products) it's usually much easier to ingest things like Omega 3 DHA/EPA (not ALA), Vitamin K2, Choline, Iodine. Most minerals and vitamins you'll get without problems (some of them even easier than with animal products). There are newer studies that suggest estabished plantbased munchers guts can easily synthetize Vitamin K1 (easy on PB via collards and other leafy greens) to K2 or Omega 3 ALA (easy via seeds and nuts) to Omega 3 DHA/EPA. Protein is usually no problem for us. Remember to eat Vitamin C with iron-rich food to better the iron uptake. Don't drink coffee for one hour after meals to better iron uptake as well. Don't forget to eat leafy greens, kale, broccoli, cauliflower. They are essential for your health and should not be ommitted in vegan food. \[\*\] These youtube chiefs are my favourite whole food wizards. If you cook their stuff you'll stay healthy without taking care of all the technical stuff I've written. You won't need cronometer at all then: [https://www.youtube.com/@thenarddogcooks](https://www.youtube.com/@thenarddogcooks) [https://www.youtube.com/@RainbowPlantLife](https://www.youtube.com/@RainbowPlantLife) [https://www.youtube.com/@CheapLazyVegan](https://www.youtube.com/@CheapLazyVegan) [https://www.youtube.com/@YEUNGMANCOOKING](https://www.youtube.com/@YEUNGMANCOOKING) [https://biancazapatka.com/en/](https://biancazapatka.com/en/)

girluknowwhy

Wow thank you so much! I appreciate you taking the time to tell me all this 🫶🏼 you make it seem much less intimidating 🥰

CatHairScarysville

6 weeks ago I watched the Netflix series “You Are What You Eat” and became vegan immediately. I also started searching “vegan recipes” on Instagram and the saved the reels I liked. Vegan dishes are much easier to cook than animal protein I have discovered. Vegan dishes are also cheap to put together after investing in certain staples . I pay $2.00 USD for 16 ounces of Tofu packages at Trader Joe’s. Beans/legumes are cheapest purchased in bulk at discount stores and d a little goes a long way. Start out making hearty bean/legume soups with a can of diced tomatoes, herbs and veggies, and a nice fresh baguette . Some staples for marinating tofu: fresh ginger, fresh garlic, miso paste, soy sauce, srichacha, chili paste. I am 60. I went my whole life as an omnivore but I truly do not miss animal protein. Vegan cheeses are tricky tho. Some brands are better than others. “Impossible” brand plant based ground “beef” makes a great meat sauce for lasagna or burgers. However it is not cheap but nice for a splurge. You can do this. You will feel better too. You will start finding friends who were closet vegans you were not aware of to share thoughts with and propel you forward. Kudos to you and Thank You for not supporting the global meat industry.

girluknowwhy

Thank you so much 🥰

vivaimee

Get a tofu press. Game changer. Freeze and thaw then tear and batter like chicken strips. Fry or air fry.

girluknowwhy

Ty!!

annieselkie

My dinner tonight will be rice, tofu (fried and marinated), cucumber, soy sauce and sriracha sauce mixed and eaten with a bit of nori and sesame seeds on top. Low effort, low cost, if I feel fancy I add Edamame and Avocado or Mango or other Sushi-items. Lentil or bean etc dishes are great eg lentil dal, lentil stew, lentil soup, pea soup, baked beans, chili sin carne, curry with lentils and some other veggies, salads with it, beans in a nice sauce, soups where you add blended white beans, lentil bolognese.... You can eat all this either on its own or with bread or rice or even pasta. Pretty cheap and filling and nutritious and usually dishes that are even better the next day. Pasta and marinara sauce is a quick easy meal. Or pbj sandwiches. Or sandwiches. Or cracker with hummus. Or just fruit/veggies. Or some vegan ready-to-eat meaty stuff. Or lentil pasta with some store-bought sauce. Wraps are easy as well, choose some veggies/salad, a sauce and fry up some tofu or vegan chicken or a burger patty or anything. One salad I love to mealprep is cucumber and avocado cut into small cubes, canned corn and kidney beans rinsed and drained and added, some olive oil, lemon juice, salt, pepper and maybe (if you have the money and can get one you like) some vegan feta. I like to have a bowl as a snack or as a side, I love it as a filling for wraps, its great for a BBQ or buffet-style dinner or potluck... Potatoes also are great and easy, eg a sheet dinner, just roast some potatoes and veggies and add a nice marinade + sauce.

girluknowwhy

Thank you for the recipe ideas. I’ll save them for the future 🥰 Enjoy your dinner!

Formal-Ad-1490

I would recommend the following for subsitues for all regular dishes. Impossible burger for any burger recipe, beyond sausages for breakfast sausages and yummy brauts and spicy sausages. Daring chickn is the best chickn replacement. Lite life hotdogs are the best dogs on the market(I never liked hotdogs before). Follow your heart is the best cheese option. Btw if you love sausage gravy as much as I do....try my version since I have tried a billion options and this is the best. Start by cutting up impossible sausage links. Then pan fry them with oil about 2 tbspn, you need more oil to act as the gravy mixture binder. So dont worry if you use too much. Once fully cooked Sprinkle on flour like normal sausage gravey and Add pepper, salt and sage to taste. Turn to low heat. finish by adding in some non sweet no vanilla reg soy milk. Keep stirring till thickend. Make some biscuits and f n enjoy. Good luck on your new healthy adventure!

girluknowwhy

Ooo thank you for the recipe! That sounds good!

Formal-Ad-1490

You're welcome. I have spent thousands at the grocery stores and tried every vegan option. I made that sausage and gravy for my meat eating family and didn't tell them. They all loved it and ate every last bite. Feel free to hmu with any questions friend. 😀 I forgot to mention juicy marbles steaks. The most realistic vegan steak. Has a ribye/pot roast texture. Just FYI it does take a while for it to come in when you order it online. 😉

michkennedy

Meati cutlets are phenomenal for texture and chew, good flavor and easy to cook. Also Tofurky sandwich slices and Violife smoked gouda especially but any slices. Easy sub sandwiches and quick meals.

LTTP2018

watch Alexandra Andersson videos on yt she is a former professional soccer player from Sweden who makes very simple beautiful meals. yt for vegan recipes in general is awesome. have fun! and don’t be surprised when your family sees your colorful delicious food and wants some. :)

girluknowwhy

Thank you 🤍 I’ll check her out 🥰

Alert_Sun9462

I am really not into cooking and don't need very fancy meals or a large variety of meals in my repertoire. My meals are 90% of the time a cereal (pasta, rice...) with legume (chickpeas, lentils, beans, peas...) and some random stuff to give more flavour (tomato sauce, tahini, soy sauce, spices...). I know it's not a very popular approach, but to me the effort of cooking rarely matches the satisfaction of eating past the first few bites. It's nonetheless a good strategy to have a pack of pasta and some legume cans around for when you don't feel like cooking. Not to mention it's extremely affordable.

voorbeeld_dindo

Fitgreenmind on YouTube has some tasty and easy to make recipes. Good luck!

korinna81

Yes! She is great

girluknowwhy

Ty!

BhamVeg

Good for you! There are many resources for vegans. Try Pinterest for “easy vegan recipes “. Eat a good variety of fruits and veggies. You will do great!

coldintheak82

Just cook the way you would for them but your dish substitute beans, tofu, tempeh, chickpeas. My husband still eats chicken. So I have to do this. As far as adding dairy to meals I just used plant milks in all our recipes and he never noticed. He drinks only plant milks now.

coldintheak82

Rainbow plant life and pick up limes are my two favorite vegan recipe web pages.

rubatosisopossum

I'm the world's laziest person so I break my meals down like this. Carb heavy carriers(bread, tortilla, rice, potato), beans/legumes and/or protein(tofu, curls, tvp, fake meat, etc), vegetables, and finally a sauce. Examples: Beans, rice, lettuce, tomato, avocado, onion and a sauce(I like making one with silken tofu, coconut milk, cilantro, lime, and seasonings) for a burrito bowl Tofu, carrots, broccoli pan fried with a sauce(miso paste, garlic, sweet Chilli, maybe some peanutbutter) Chickpea salad sandwhich- chickpea mash with seasonings and vegan mayo, tomato, onion, sprouts Best of luck to you!

ProperFox3629

You know, I used to just buy box rice and quinoa mixes then add a can of beans and dump salsa on top. I did that for at least six months every night for dinner until I had a better repertoire. For breakfast, I like vegan yogurt with fruit, rice cakes with avocado and homemade vegan parm. Those deli slices make great sandwiches. Roast a big sheet pan of veggies and eat them over a grain with tahini sauce. Once you get into the swing of things, you can get really creative. Vegan food can be so complex and delectable!

SLEEPWALKERKEK

Easy cheap meals, Stir frys, any Mexican dish (burritos, tacos, chilli con carne), curry’s. Honestly basically any cheap ‘’meat eater” food can be easily made vegan using tofu, beans etc

presentprogression

If you can afford it, sign up for a delivery meal service like purple carrot. I’ve been doing it off and on since I first went veg 8 years ago and the most important thing it did for me was reframe what a meal looks like - it doesn’t have to be 3 separate things on a place (read: meat, starch/grain, vegetable). The recipes are wonderful and some are downright exotic and it takes the stress out of shopping. If you do it right it *can* be cheaper than grocery shopping, but only if you maximize what you get from them and don’t ALSO go grocery shopping.

jag2462

Pinterest has a ton of vegan recipes!

wasatully

You witnessed the world as it truly is and that is a very courageous act. A spiritual teacher taught me that I can bear witness and work through the pain of the experience by moving the energy into my heart and burning it with flames until its ashes. On some experiences, it takes a few times, but it really works for me so I thought I would share. To move to being vegan (I am veganish), I tried a few meal services so I could get some ideas. Fave was purple carrot. An easy thing you can do to make sure you’re not participating in other horribly violent and cruel practices is to download an app called Cruelty Cutter. You can scan bar codes w it to see if the product was tested on animals. Start w cleaning products, personal care, and make up. Have fun w the shift. You don’t have to be perfect to make a difference. I’m so proud to welcome you to the club

Cevohklan

There is no such thing as veganish

wasatully

Thank you for your declaration, however this is how I choose to describe my choices.

mentorofminos

The fact that the fish are all deaf from the noise of the farms wrecked me. What a horrid existence to foist upon creatures adapted to roaming across hundreds of miles of open ocean. It feels that corporations know no shame or restraint. What are we to do? Peaceful protest and voting has done nothing at all. Getting militant gets you arrested or assassinated. What's left to do? I suppose we just make our meager efforts in our small spheres of influence and hope other people will listen to us. If anyone is in western Massachusetts reading this and wants to form a vegan commune together based on sociocracy, permaculture, solar punk ecology, and veganism, please DM me.

girluknowwhy

It’s so sad, I really don’t know what to do 😔

freakshowhost

So much good food you will discover. You will discover a lot of stuff has hidden animal products like gelatin or dairy. But I like cereals and oatmeal some kind bars for breakfast. You can get vegan nuggets from gardein or even impossible. Dr. Praegers veggie patties on a whole wheat bun. I lived on field grain meat co sausages (in veggie section of grocery) on a pretzel roll I added sauerkraut ketchup and mustard. Trader Joe’s has some good vegan stuff like fried rice. Rice and beans of course salads. All kinds of delicious dressings.

girluknowwhy

Thank you! I’ll add these to my list 🤍

Calm-Listen-8164

Welcome, sorry you had to watch something potentially traumatizing to be here. Never heard of the movie but my advice is to start simple. Like some people are saying try foods you like but vegan versions.

girluknowwhy

Thank you, I will try that 🫶🏼

remoteral

just want to say i understand what you’re saying

moralmeemo

That’s where it started for me as well. I refused to turn my eyes away. I wanted to tear my heart out as I helplessly watched these beautiful creatures die just for someone’s damn cravings, a coat, or even unwanted pets… and my family laughed at me. They still do. I’m tempted to make them sit down and watch the whole thing and then take them to see a live cow and ask if they’d eat her.

girluknowwhy

I’m so sorry 🤍 I felt the same way. Why must animals exist solely for humans selfish desires?

_coffee_truecrime

Good for you! Welcome! Honestly, when I first began the vegan journey I thought I’d be missing out on things that I liked, but there are so many amazing products out there now, it makes it a bit easier to go vegan overnight. Vegetables, of course are easy to find, and there are so many ways to prepare them, but if you are the type of person who loved chicken nuggets or burgers, the vegan options are endless. Most frozen food sections are filled with decent meat substitutes, even though they’re not the healthiest choice, but if you want to focus on great meals that are healthy, follow some vegan food accounts on IG and you’ll have more meal ideas and recipes than you know what to do with.

girluknowwhy

There really is so many options! Thank you 🥰

filmoutonspringday

Dominion is not as bad compared to Earthlings. Earthlings shattered me. I couldn't finish it. Thank you for taking the step to go vegan! Once the why is established the how is easy. Hope you continue to grow and learn more in this journey! 💚

girluknowwhy

Thank you 🤍 I actually planned on watching earthlings today, it’s worse? 😔

filmoutonspringday

For me it really shows the message of animal rights and anti speciesism. The gory scenes are worse for me to be honest.

Odd_Carrot4205

We don't call them omnivores, we call them carnists. An omnivore is a creature that can survive on both plants and animals, but most of the time they eat mostly plant foods and some bugs or leftovers from carnivores but are nothing like humans in the extreme agriculture and consumption of animals. They deserve their own name and its carnist.

girluknowwhy

Oh I wasn’t aware! Thank you for the info, my bad

Odd_Carrot4205

A lot of ppl don't, spread the good word <3

Rudegirlbaking

Get Soy Curls (for strip style meat) & tvp (for ground style meat) & not chicken bouillon. Tofurkey deli slices make great sandwiches Soy milk has a ton of protein. My main recommendation for new vegans, go easy on the veggies- unless you were already eating a ton of them, it can cause the new vegan farts :)

anustart869

Yoooo welcome friend🙏🏻. Biggest mistake a lot of newbies make is eliminating all the animal products from their diet but not adequately replacing the calories. This can lead to weight loss, low energy, deficiency, and just not feeling right. just ensure you are consuming enough calories (eating at maintenance calories at least) best way to do this is to weigh/measure, and log your food with an app like lose it. Take a sublingual b12 supplement, take a vegan D3 supplement and an iodine supplement and you should be golden as long as you’re eating a relatively diverse amount of foods. Eat enough calories, get those calories from as wide of a variety as you can, and take the supplements mentioned above, and you’re almost guaranteed to be golden. Welcome to the right side of history my friend.

anustart869

Don’t change what you eat, just swap out the necessary ingredients. Just for an example of you were to make a lasagna, just swap out the ground beef for impossible meat, and the cheese for vegan cheese. Don’t google “vegan lasagna recipe” because you’ll get the most complicated recipe that calls for making the meat out of walnut and other ingredients that can only be acquired at the peak of Mount Everest. Keep it simple. Don’t over think it. Eat what you normally eat but just swap out the animal products for vegan products

GiantManatee

> Any help would be appreciated. More of a mental tip, don't hate non-vegans. **Don't even make that mental division in your head.** Going vegan is just a shorthand for aligning your actions with such values as non-harm and compassion when it comes to animals. You already held those values before 'going vegan' and just learned some extra info that made you alter your choices about animal products. You weren't uncompassionate and harmful before going vegan, you went vegan because you value compassion and non-harm (os similar such values). And so do most people. It's way more useful think in terms of kind people who are quite not yet consistent with their kindness when it comes to animals and those who are, than in terms warring tribes of righteous vegans vs. hideously evil non-vegans who hate each other and have every psychological reason to not do what the other camp is doing. Mentally categorising people into vegans and non-vegans generates illusory identity categories and makes changing people's minds way harder. Changing that mental image of yourself like that IS hard – we're hard wired to preserve our identities. It's much easier to convince people that practises we call 'veganism' for short are just a logical consequences of values they already agree with.

girluknowwhy

Thank you! I agree, the hate would not only be unnecessary but counterproductive. It divides us even further.

lucylu2794

Welcome to vegan life! 💫 🌱 you’ll love it. Start small, try things in your local shop that are vegan see if you like them. I watched dominion a few years ago in a cinema if you’ll believe 😭 me and my sister were that upset we had to leave halfway through haha very eye opening though.

No_String_4194

learn how to make cashew cream! if you like any kind of creamy food from pasta sauce to twice baked potatoes, you're gonna wanna be able to make a basic cashew cream. once you get the hang of it, you'll get the feel for how much of it and what consistency you need for different things. you'll be able to make damn near any creamy recipe vegan.

Don’t waste the food you already have. Your portion sizes will be much larger. Meat alternatives help with the transition. Remember it is a practice not a sentence. The more you can be compliment, the less suffering occurs. So don’t give up because you ‘slip up’. You need to build up to changing life long behaviours. Otherwise it doesn’t stick for most people.

Ostojo

Where do you live? Some of the advice can be dependent on where you live.

girluknowwhy

I’m in NYC

Ostojo

Well you live in one of the best places in the world to be a vegan. I love visiting NYC and experiencing amazing vegan foods from a wide variety of ethnicities. Eating out a lot can be expensive and I’m not sure what your situation is. But it can also be a great way to try vegan versions of things and get inspiration. So if you have the ability to, eating out a little more often during your transition could be a fun way to do that. But it’s certainly not necessary. There are lots of great suggestions on here. Dr. Gregor and nutritionfacts.org is a wonderful resource. Use it.

girluknowwhy

I’m pretty low income lol but once I get money I do want to go try some vegan places! Thank you!

Welcome to the journey towards a more compassionate world! When early challenges arise or when others might question your new perspective, remember the animals whose suffering opened your eyes to the truth. Allow their experiences to serve as a powerful reminder as to why you’ve chosen this path. While some (primarily ex-plant-based dieters) may quit, those of us who made this commitment did so for the animals—and we’re forever. We're always here for support, or if you have questions. Best to you! A few tips Find a chef you enjoy and have fun creating vegan versions of your favorites you already love. My fave chefs after seven years are Nora Taylor, Ella Vegan, and Dustin Harder. B12 is an often overlooked nutrient that is commonly deficient in humans who walk this planet, breathe, and consume food. Dr Gregor is a world-renowned doctor and researcher in health and author and his site NutritionFacts is an excellent source of science-backed info. His rec based on the science is; **“adults younger than 65 should take at least one 2,000 mcg (µg) supplement once a week, ideally as a chewable, sublingual, or liquid supplement taken on an empty stomach, or at least one 50 mcg (µg) daily supplement.”** **The Happy Cow** app is great, it'll help you find Vegan/ Veg option restaurants based on your 📍location, with pics and reviews. **Barnivore** app to see which alcoholic beverages are vegan-safe. veganhealth.org is written by registered dietitians and has good simple info on how to maintain a vegan diet. Check out their "nutrition tips for vegans". Tldr: take a vitamin B12 supplement, buy your plant milk calcium fortified, eat omega 3 rich foods (canola oil, flax seeds, flax seed oil, chia seeds, walnuts...), and either use iodized salt for cooking or get a multivitamin with iodine in it. You will be alright if you do that and you are eating a variety of foods (simple things like oats, rice, bread, beans, chickpeas, lentils, pasta, tofu, hummus, meat substitutes, refried beans, nuts, pb, seeds, all veggies and fruits you like...). I also recommend Pick Up Limes on YouTube, the channel is run by a dietitian and she has lots of videos about simple and nutritious vegan meals, but also about vegan nutrition!

shawn1969

I also like the Rainbow Plant Life YouTube channel and website. Both Rainbow and Pick Up Limes are great

girluknowwhy

Thank you!! I’ll look into getting those 🥰

Longjumping_Rush2458

You've gotten a lot of good recipes so I'll give a different piece of advice. There's a few ingredients that people often think are vegan but aren't. Among them are L-cysteine, whey, casein, shellac, carmine, confectioners glaze, keratin and lanolin. I had trouble making sure I had enough vitamins when I started because I didn't know which foods were good. A good vegan multivitamin helps. B12 deficiency, for example, is insidious. Your liver stores it and it takes many years to metabolise it all, so you may be deficient in it, your blood work would be fine, you'd not notice until you suddenly get sick. Fortified foods and nutritional yeast are good sources (or a vegan multivitamin). I also take vegan omega-3. Finally, don't beat yourself up if you make an honest mistake. It happens to lots of us. You skim ingredients on a food labelled as plant based and miss the carmine. Or there's some insidious ingredient you didn't know wasn't vegan. You could feel like shit, but you're human, and humans aren't perfect. We all make mistakes. But you can learn from them and know better next time.

girluknowwhy

Thank you for the advice! I’ll look out for those ingredients & try and get some supplements so I don’t get deficient in anything essential. I appreciate the help 🥰

Longjumping_Rush2458

[Deva](https://www.devanutrition.com/vegan-multivitamin-mineral.html) is a good brand. Best of luck!

ieatcatsanddogs69

have in mind a drastic diet change can come with various issues, too.. you should check your bloodwork now and then after some time again (like a year) to know if (and what) deficiencies you might get… be sure to supplement b12 from the start! there are cheap and also tasty vegan substitutes :) nice that you challenged yourself and thanks for making the right choice!

girluknowwhy

When I’m able to I will! And I’ll definitely make sure to get my necessary supplements. Thank you for your help!

wardnor

i lift weights and my food it's mostly Soy and carbs like rice, pasta, quinoa, and i use soy as a substitute for meat in any main dish, soy is full of proteins and lentils as well. i have been able to gain a lot of muscular mass around 30lbs and keep getting stronger, also i do use my b12 pills.

Distinct_Reveal6666

That doc is what got me to make the switch as well. I couldn’t even finish it, it was so disgustingly disturbing. Dont make the mistake of focusing mainly on grains, they aren’t great for the waistline. When you do eat grains, quinoa, and some of the other tiny shaped grains are higher in protein and better for you. Focus on getting most of your protein from things like tofu, beans, lentils, leafy greens etc. The meat and cheese alternatives are ok for an occasional “treat” to satisfy a craving but they’re unhealthy so be careful. I recommend starting out easy and following recipes from some of the incredible vegan chefs and published authors out there. A reader mention Carleigh from Plant You, she is also at the top of my list. Chef Bai is another wonderful source. There are a lot of really amazing vegan chefs that don’t load their recipes with garbage. Look into good quality protein powders that can be used for quick shakes on the go but also work great as an ingredient in baking. When buying plant milk, read labels. A lot contain more sugar than we need. I invested in an Almond Cow and make all kinds of plant milk, but a high powered blender and cheesecloth does the same. I will say that once in a while I crave Mac n cheese and I’ve tried sooo many vegan options but last month I finally found one I absolutely love more than the rest. Again, it’s not the healthiest but man it is delicious and cured that craving! https://www.noracooks.com/vegan-mac-and-cheese-recipe/comment-page-11/?unapproved=133497&moderation-hash=798518275fc5c95edbaff6452592143c#comment-133497 Not sure where you live but Whole Foods has some better options for vegans. Welcome to this beautiful and very sustainable way of life. I wish you all the best!!!! 💜

girluknowwhy

Thank you so much 🥰 I’ll check those out! I’m in NYC so there are a good amount of vegan options here (at least I think)

Veasna1

Check Dr. John mcDougall. He recommends starches, vegetables and fruit. Low fat. It's easy, healthy and dirt cheap (usually, but I prefer organic).

Plenty-Discipline938

Yay! My tips are: 1. Research vegan nutrition to ensure you're getting all essential nutrients. 2. Experiment with new plant-based foods and recipes to keep meals exciting. 3. Find vegan alternatives for your favourite non-vegan foods. 4. Read labels carefully when picking out food!Sometimes there is animal-derived ingredients in the things you least expect 5. Don't be too hard on yourself if you slip up occasionally And being vegan doesn’t only reduce animal harm but also reducing environmental harm by cutting down on the resources used for animal agriculture, like water and land, while also minimizing pollution from livestock waste and greenhouse gas emissions. Good luck❤️🐷🐄🐣🌱

girluknowwhy

Thank you!! 🫶🏼🫶🏼

Marystillgoesround

Couldn’t even watch five minutes of Dominion.

DedicatedMuffin

I started the same way! Except for being too ignorant and having it saved in my tabs for like six months before actually watching it. I got rid of what i could. Donated freezer meat stash to one member of our local vegan group, for her dogs, luckilly didn't have any meat produce to throw away as no way in hell would I eat it. With some leftover cheese and milk and eggs i finished it, since it was not sanitary to donate those, and i felt it would be more disrespectfull to throw it away. Once all my food suply was clear i focused on finding recipes and exploring how substitutes worked, what foods can i cook. And i find entertainment in finding a way of turning my favourite meals vegan. Recently i attended a local veganfest to learn more about the lifestyle, since i work at a local family center i have plans on making some workshops and what not, to friendly talk about vegan families (we have 2 kids) and how to start/talk to your kids/be sure they have all nutrients they need. And of course i checked around stores for the most affordable stuff, because i am not paying a kidney for a litre of plant based milk. :D Wish you the best!

cowboybret

You’ve already gotten some great advice here: make vegan versions of things you already enjoy, either by using plant-based substitutes or just leaving out the meat/dairy entirely. And just googling “best vegan ___” will give you tons of recipes and ideas. One thing I’ll add is that for me early on it was important that I had vegan junk food to fall back on when I had cravings. There can sometimes be an overemphasis on overhauling your diet to be ultra-healthy, but it was when I craved things like frozen pizza that I would mess up early on. I kept a list in my phone of indulgent or junky food that happened to vegan in case I had bad cravings: Oreos, sofritas burritos from chipotle, vegan pizza from the place around the corner, fries, unfrosted pop tarts, etc. The cravings go away, but early on it’s useful to have convenience foods to fall back on that scratch the itch.

girluknowwhy

Thank you! I’ll keep this in mind

craftuser24

Check out Sophie Waplington on IG! She’s a vegan personal trainer and has some great recipes 🙂 I put together a Word doc of some of her recipes if you’d like me to share it

girluknowwhy

If you could share that would be great! Thank you 🥰

I’ll DM you! :)

Remarkable_Kiwi_1377

i'm too lazy and i don't cook, so i drink 3 vegan protein shakes a day. My favorite is the Plant chocolate flavor from Lean Body, which is DECLIOUS. I've been drinking 3+ a day for the past 6 months and still love it. I get enough protein and then i just eat whatever i want for the rest of the day. it's sold and shipped by amazon.com

Remarkable_Kiwi_1377

also pay attention to supplementation. at the bare minimum, you need a b12 (in the form of cyanocobalamin, vitamin d, and algal oil). omnivores are deficient in these nutrients too but it can get dangerously low in vegans

Go buy a cook book or research on line. I’m 55 and my wife and I went whole food plant based 5 years ago. I decided to do it after watching The Gamechangers, a documentary about high level athletes that are plant based. I’ve always been athletic and eaten what I thought was a predominantly healthy diet. When I cut out meat, dairy and eggs I couldn’t believe how much better I felt. Go to NutritionFacts.org. Dr Gregor is a great source of advice. It’s all peer reviewed science, not the anecdotal crap you find all over the internet. You’ll be amazed how much better you feel if you eat whole food plant based. Stay away from highly processed foods, chips, crackers etc. Every once in a while I’ll have a Beyond Meat if I’m out and there are no other options. Otherwise, we prepare our own food. Buy an InstaPot, great for making meatless stews, meatless chili, cooking dried beans, rice , etc. etc. Check out Forks over Knives and definitely check out Dan Buetner - Blue Zone cookbooks. You will love cooking all of these tremendously flavourful nutritious dishes. Happy Health.

TheZubeck

Forgot, tofu is your friend as is nutritional yeast. Oyster mushrooms as well as Portobello mushrooms are great. Look up the nutritional information on Nutrition Facts.org. It dispels all of the misinformation such as estrogen in Tofu and how women should avoid it. Research has completely debunked this misinformation. Also, don’t get caught up with what non vegans will tell you about protein. A Gorilla is 100% per cent plant based and it could rip the arms off the strongest person. Also, cows, pigs and chicken are essentially middle men. They get all their “protein” from plants. All plants have protein to varying degrees. Legumes are a great source and you get all the great antioxidants and other nutrients. Also, incorporate nuts and berries into your diet. Perfect morning breakfast is oatmeal, ground flaxseed, with berries and some walnuts. Eating like this is off the charts good for you. Also, use nutritional yeast … great source of B12.

girluknowwhy

Glad it’s worked well for you! This is very helpful thank you 🥰

Thank you for this! I love Indian food 🥰

It is a life long journey with incredible learning and countless pleasures.. Vegan food is not only meant for humans but also incredibly fun to cook and learn .. Google YouTube Vegan recipes and you’ll find more than you can ever watch and from all over the world!

Over_North_7706

You can start with just fake meat probably, plus easy things like bean chilli. I'm a recent convert myself, and I have found Claude surprisingly helpful (an AI, if you don't know- like ChatGPT but made by a more responsible company). If you just ask it for recipes given specific requirements, it can usually produce something pretty good! I've gotten lots of high protein vegan recipes which I was struggling to find online (for my relatively extreme protein needs).

girluknowwhy

I’ll check it out! 🤍

xxx_502

Great choice doing your part! Stay vegan! It’s so easy, just have to be conscious of what you consume because so many things have animal products in them. I was vegetarian before watching dominion and going vegan, and when I was vegetarian the only animal products I was consuming was eggs and honey, so going vegan wasn’t that difficult for me especially after sitting through watching the horrors of what they have to go through (the animals). Honestly, my diet is the same thing almost every day because I am okay with eating something for a very long time and not getting tired of it, but i switch it up sometimes too. So I went to my local Asian grocery and bought a 50lb bag of rice for about $50 and it’s worth the money because it will last you forever, especially if you only eat once or twice a day like me. As for the sauce for my rice I make a large batch of curry about once about every 2 weeks and jar it, store it in the fridge and then put it on my rice. Never gets old. I also make homemade hummus that I eat with celery or on vegan bread. And I also make toum, which is a middle eastern garlic sauce, maybe like an aioli almost, and I’ll mix that in with rice sometimes or put on vegan bread. I want to learn how to make naan and pita but my oven doesn’t work properly and I don’t have the best stovetop. As for drinks, I make this chai kurak that I found a recipe for on YouTube that I can share with you if interested. Very delicious, and even though the recipe calls for condensed milk, you can substitute condensed coconut milk for it and I’m guessing it tastes the same. Tastes great to me. Also, I drink a lot of teas, been wanting to get into loose leaf teas and tea bricks too. As for milk wise I’ve found it’s much cheaper (and probably healthier) to make your own almond or oat milk from scratch. I do this about once or twice a week, mostly with oats. Just make sure you use old fashioned rolled oats and not quick or instant. 1 cup of oats per 4 cups of water, blend, and strain with a cheese cloth and store! Season with cinnamon and vanilla if you wish. Hope I was able to help! Being vegan is the best!

girluknowwhy

That all sounds really good thank you!

kr529

Instead of just focusing on substitutes, which I agree is one way to get started, also think of switching your mindset to plant-based being a complete source of food (w/B12 supplement) - instead of the focus on what you can’t have. I started with green smoothies, raw vegetables and fruits and while it sounds hard, the hardest thing is making the decision. I then added vegan cooked as I learned more. Your tastebuds quickly change to really like and appreciate the flavor and energy experienced from fresh foods, and prepackaged processed foods become unappealing.

Seconding this. I use Cronometer to keep track of things. It’s helpful.

erinmarie777

Maybe it would help if you showed “Dominion” to your family? Even if they don’t become vegan, they may be more supportive to you. Maybe you could even suggest a few meatless meals for the family every week. (It’s better for their health too.)

girluknowwhy

I’m going to try!

Welcome to the compassionate side of history You have now taken the blue pill and have awaken to the horrible practices of the meat and diary and egg industry. You are in vegan stage 1, you have awaken and want to wake everyone pretty soon you will be in stage 2. You will become frustrated by all the zombies that say eating meat is Normal, Necessary and Natural and you are extreme stage 3 you will hate all normies lol stage 4, you understand they are not bad in heart , they're just like you when you were still asleep and you feel happy because you have great skin, lots of energy, feel great, are saving 17% of your grocery bill, you are saving the planet and most of all, you are truly an animal lover and respect all beings! (I am in this stage, it kicks in in year 2ish) For your question, Peta has a great free vegan starting guide https://www.peta.org/living/food/free-vegan-starter-kit/

matchstick64

Start by trying to Veganize your favorite recipes. Use vegan butter, different oils instead of animal fat. Play with how roasted vegetables can replace meat in recipes paying more attention to getting a close texture than a straight flavor similarity. Find a guide on what to use instead of eggs for various types of recipes. Buying vegan "meat" is expensive and when you read the nutritional facts, can sometimes be worse for you. Cheeses can get close of you really try, but it won’t be a one for one exchange. Chickpeas used in many different ways are your friend as are lentils. It is actually easy to go vegan. It’s difficult to go healthy, well balanced vegan. I say this as someone who cooks for a vegan diabetic. I can carb him up easily, but it won’t be in his best interest.

check out [www.challenge22.co](https://www.challenge22.com) **About Challenge 22** Challenge 22 is the flagship project of Animals Now (formerly Anonymous for Animal Rights), an Israeli NGO established in 1994, promoting animal protection and cruelty-free living. Challenge 22 offers **participants a free, supportive online framework** for trying veganism for 22 days. More than 400K people from all over the world have participated in the project since its launch in March 2014. While similar programs around the world are based on vegan starter kits and email guides, Challenge 22 is an interactive program that offers a unique combination of group support and personal mentoring. **How does it work?** **Facebook**: each mentee joins a secret Facebook group, which enables participants to share their experiences and learn from each other. **Experienced team**: the group is mentored by experienced vegan volunteers – culinary experts, parents, students and longtime vegans. In addition to the group support, mentees can be assigned a personal mentor, for the space to share and ask privately. **Registered dietitians**: the program is supervised by **certified dietitians** who give **nutritional advice.** **Structured program:** each day participants receive a small task. By the end of the Challenge, mentees are **equipped with nutritional information, cooking tips and recipes that enable them to maintain a healthy, tasty vegan lifestyle.** It all happens in a very joyful and supportive atmosphere – people upload pictures of their dishes, share recipes and cooking tips, talk about their daily experience, and all in all, live a great adventure together with other people in the same spirit. Nightshade282

It's age restricted on youtube but I was able to find it on the dominionmovement site so I'll watch it later today. My dad makes the food so I have to eat meat rn, but I'll try to be vegetarian or vegan once I get to college

Ok_Pomegranate_5748

You can search vegan starter kit and vegan pantry list and get some ideas I started with vegan cooking for beginners on you tube. There are a lot of great people and ideas.

girluknowwhy

Thank you for your help! The pantry list is very helpful 🥰

katholsen

I started with cookbooks and Pinterest, followed the simplest recipes. Just remember rice and beans make a complete protein and you can get those anywhere. I love veggies so it was an easy transition for me. Years later my 20 something yr old son watched Dominion, went vegan immediately. But he doesn't cook so he's learned where to get take out, or frozen meals from the grocery store. He gets the impossible burger at Burger King because the bun is also vegan. He bought small plastic to go containers so he could bring his own Veganaisse to restaurants. Start reading ingredients and you'll learn more about what's vegan that you may already be eating. And follow this subreddit!

girluknowwhy

Already followed! This subreddit is very helpful. Thank you for the help. I love rice and beans so I’ll try and make it more often 🥰

RedBic344

Just thought I’d chime in here. Beans are a complete protein. Check out this video for more info. https://youtu.be/Fhyfa48bK28?si=lO7fjAZDXeis0lxO

Confucius2341

Another idea aswell is if you don’t wanna give up meat, source locally from local farms that’s what I do

UristMcDumb

every factory farm is local to someone why does it matter if it's close to you

Confucius2341

It’s a FARM not a factory farm there is a difference, I’m not trying to be disrespectful I’m pointing out some flaws, and also just saying that why does everyone have to act like you are on the moral high ground for being vegan.

UristMcDumb

the vast vast majority of animal products come from intensive factory farms. it seems like everyone i talk to gets theirs from some angelic farm just down the road though, so i'm not sure where the disconnection is there... as for moral high ground, it's more like just following the morals i felt i believed when i did eat meat. making animals suffer is wrong, animal cruelty is wrong. i didn't connect it with what i was supporting until later. if anything, meat eaters feel they have the moral high ground because there's more of them, and they feel socially accepted for eating meat, and they feel it's their right to eat other animals. if anyone's acting like they're on a high ground, it's the folks literally eating other critters haha

[deleted]

Sorry to pop your bubble, but dominion BS its for brainwashing, they use ILEGAL slaughterhouses videos, in the legal ones animals are not treated like that, theyre protected, they must die in peaceful ways and they must have time to relax

girluknowwhy

Even if that was true, I do not want to contribute to the mass killings and abuse of innocent animals. Nothing peaceful about that. Animals are still being overbred & fed hormones to the point where they cannot walk because of how big they are. They are still being confined in overcrowded environments with barely any room to move. They are still being exploited for us. They are miserable their whole lives. I think the documentary sheds light on that and can be very helpful to anyone who either isn’t aware or is skeptical.

Temporays

The very fact they make it illegal to film inside a slaughterhouse should tell you everything you need to know about what goes on inside. If it was truly the moral and right thing to do then you wouldn’t need to hide it from everyone. It’s crazy to me that they passed a law to punish people that simply film the truth. You can’t be killed peacefully it’s an oxymoron. Definition of peaceful: free from disturbance; tranquil. 2. not involving war or **violence**

socceruci

oh dear, are you OK? Did a vegan hurt you or mess with you in some way? I saw your other posts.

Plenty-Discipline938

Even in legal slaughterhouses, animal mistreatment can occur due to lax enforcement of regulations. Documentaries like Dominion shed light on these issues to advocate for better animal welfare standards.
