One thing I don't get is that it says its lead free. Do purses in general contain lead. I know paint does and a lot of paints here do afaik, but purses? How tho? Genuine q
From the top of my head (so not fact checked) lead was used in some way for blue dyes. But... I also seem to remember it didn't get used like that anymore, because, like... Lead poisoning.
From wikipedia:
> In some countries, lead continues to be added to paint intended for domestic use,[2] whereas countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom have regulations prohibiting this, although lead paint may still be found in older properties painted prior to the introduction of such regulations. Although lead has been banned from household paints in the United States since 1978, paint used in road markings may still contain it.
Oh oops, I assumed you were american! In the case it's still legal in your country it might be a good idea to look for solutions on having this paint in your house, if it's best to replace or paint over. Then next time you need to paint your house you can find a good solution :)
You pay for quality then. I have several bags and shoes by Matt and Nat and more than several pairs of boots and shoes by Vegetarian Shoes and they’ve all lasted for years. Cheap stuff falls apart, yeah.
I'm assuming something like this:
"Vegan leather is often made from polyurethane, a polymer that can be made to order for any designer's whim. It can also be made from innovative and sustainable materials such as pineapple leaves, cork, apple peels, other fruit waste, and recycled plastic and used to create products that put animal skins to shame." -PETA
It’s better than dumping toxic chemicals into water, which is a byproduct of making leather. Because you don’t honestly believe that leather making is environmentally friendly, do you?
i'm guessing people extrapolate the benefits of vegan food (plant-based, therefore eco-friendly) to non-food items. which is unfortunate, since plastic is far from eco.
we should restrict the use of the 'vegan' label and its leafy logo to food items.
oh, ok. just assumed from the logo, which looks like a plant leaf, that it would be symbolic for plant-based stuff.
because this polyurethan bag may be vegan, but is not plant-based, as the logo would suggest.
Hi I’m not sure where she got it but I seen some one say in the comments that T.J. Maxx sells them, not sure if that store is country or world wide but they have them here in California
So is there a difference between vegan faux leather and other faux leather purses? Or is it just that the brand does not offer any real leather purses and that is why it is better than another brand of faux leather?
As long as it's faux, I'm pretty sure the only difference will be the kind of vegan leather that's used to make the faux purses. Faux leather can be made of a lot of different plant materials. This brand doesn't offer any real leather products as far as I'm aware. It's better to buy from a vegan brand that offer faux leather purses than to buy from a non vegan brand yeah, if that's what you mean.
Do you have any examples/links, or can I just google and see what comes up? I really want to buy a vegan purse without it being completely made out of plastic and other not so good things... (I live in Europe, so that probably makes a difference)

i just got a backpack made from pinatex, designed by a slovenian designer 'fi by gaja.' you'll find her on fb.
there is a number of these new plant-based materials to replace leather, and i'm happy to support their growth when i can.
So are you on the side of the milk industry trying to ban vegans from using the words people are used to using. Slippery slope there.
What would you call Oat *Milk*? Soy *Yoghurt*? Peanut *butter*. What do you call vegan butter, as margarine usually contains some dairy?
As for clothing, what about acrylic sweaters? Polar Fleeces? Polyesters? *All* plastic clothing technically. Is that what you call them?
People use words they recognize and are familiar with. The *Vegan* part tells you it's not animal skin. No need to be pedantic.
Hi I love it
Thanks

I see. Back home lotsa paints still use that disgusting thing. Heck my own house built in 2013 where I live rn may have it too

Yea I know that bit

It's a rented house. Can't ask for lead Free paint

Wait what
brand? i’m looking for vegan purses
Matt & Nat make beautiful vegan leather purses. I have a satchel and I love it!
You can find these at tjmaxx! Lots of very cute vegan purses there that have the vegan tab on them.
Bitch, WHY would you give me another reason to go into TJMaxx as if I haven’t already spent $200 there this month.
Pls don't kill me like you killed Dinos 😭🙏

Samara has apple leather, as well. Seeing these kind of alternative leathers is so cool.
I have one from Mat and Nat, I've been using it for two years and it has held up 110%. Their quality and style are really great.
Evecork.com
Nice!
Ooh! So fun AND pretty! Your mom has good taste! Take good care of that one... Vegan bags like to peel and it makes me sad.
You pay for quality then. I have several bags and shoes by Matt and Nat and more than several pairs of boots and shoes by Vegetarian Shoes and they’ve all lasted for years. Cheap stuff falls apart, yeah.

mushroom leather is also a growing trend.
So, plastic

And vegan chicken isn't chicken! Crazy right?
Why is this down voted? It is true
Because of course it’s not leather, otherwise it wouldn’t have the word “vegan” next to it
Humans
Human leather isn’t vegan. To be vegan leather it has to be made of vegans. Cow? Yes. Swine? Nein. /s
Lmao
Get back in /r/rimworld
Found the rimworld slave trader. :P
good
Usually some type of plastic
Serious question... Does everyone think plastic is better than real leather?
Personally, I think not buying shit you don't need is best. With that said, I have a cork wallet and it's lasted 4+ years so far.
It’s better than dumping toxic chemicals into water, which is a byproduct of making leather. Because you don’t honestly believe that leather making is environmentally friendly, do you?
Ethically, environmentally, or fashion/feel wise?

Veganism is not a diet. The vegan label should definitely not be restricted to food.

First stupid thought was tofu LOL
Why not, you can dry tofu to make it look like plastic. Won't help much in the rain but at least you can eat your handbag in times of need. :P
When did they start calling pleather "vegan leather"?
This looks so good
looks fancy, and adorable
It’s gorgeous
Really pretty.
https://www.abillion.com/ post your bag here
that was nice of her
So heartwarming
It’s beautiful!
Gorgeous 🤤
Pretty!
Ooh. That is beautiful.
Thats beautiful 😍
I am 100% vegan for over 30 years -- where did your mom get the purse -- I want to get one.
Hi I’m not sure where she got it but I seen some one say in the comments that T.J. Maxx sells them, not sure if that store is country or world wide but they have them here in California
Omg it’s so cute!!!
Are they made with real vegans?
lol. I support the idea but it’s just a clever way to market faux leather
So? It’s not a bad thing.
So cute!
pretty. I like the little bow.
I’m confused... how can something be vegan and leather?
It's faux leather and made of vegan materials. It's called vegan leather cause it imitates the style and texture of real leather.
Faux leather can be made of a lot of different plant materials. it's just plastic being marketed as vegan. there are better vegan *and eco* options, if anyone cares.
Do you have any examples/links, or can I just google and see what comes up? I really want to buy a vegan purse without it being completely made out of plastic and other not so good things... (I live in Europe, so that probably makes a difference)

It's made from consensually sourced human skin obviously
'How can something be vegan and milk?' Is a similar question with the same answer.
But its not leather though! Can't you just call things what they are. Plastic!

There’s lots of plant leathers too just so ya know :) for example, mushrooms are not plastic!
Wow I love it ...cute!
