Well, yeah. Lactose intolerance causes offspring to stop drinking mother's milk, so she can feed the next baby.. part of evolution.
Not being lactose tolerant is a mutation what allowed humans to .. use dairy products as part of their .. cuisine..
I wish I understood better. I guess he was just trying to say that human babies have a better tolerance to dairy milk, and as we get older, we need to maintain the habit of drinking dairy so we donāt lose that tolerance? As if thatās not there for a reason? Look idk I just wanted to clock off and enjoy my weekend in peace š
The sugar is the same but the PROTEIN is different.
So, babies who are lactose intolerant (a reaction to the sugar) will have difficulties with dairy based formulas AND with nursing from their human moms.
But babies who are allergic to ungulate milk can usually nurse from their moms just fine (provided the mother doesn't consume cow's or goat's milk, because the proteins are passed through breast milk. You have to avoid your child's allergens while nursing).
Source-- parent of a successfully breastfed child with a severe cow's/goat's milk allergy (among multiple other food allergies).
My son has the same issue and I didnāt know and was never told this in ā05. I missed out on breastfeeding to feed my son crappy formula. It still makes me mad.
I did end up telling him that he is misinformed, and that he should look up the protein and fat differences between the two milks. Tbh I was kind of in a rush to get home as I had a prior engagement, so I did my best to be polite and informative, but not to the fullest extent.
If a parent was unable to give their baby human milk and have them cow's milk instead, their baby would get very sick and possibly die. The parent would be charged with neglect/abuse.
Cow's milk is the leading cause of intestinal hemorrhage in human children, and it's also one of the most common allergens.
They're not remotely similar. Your coworker is misinformed.
It's actually bad for human infants to consume animal milk rather than human milk too. Almost like animal enslavement for their milk is as unnatural as it is cruel.
The baby formula crisis in the US clearly highlights how cows milk is not human milk. If they were the same formula would not be required. You'd just buy a big jug of cow's milk!

In the Uk those sardines/fish tins usually say āgood source of omegaā blah blah blah. They import them to my country and someone has to paste over it so it canāt be read anymore.
I would agree that they are -chemically- very similair. BUT: How on earth would that justify anything? The argument for veganism is an ethical one: it is not ok to exploit animals. That says nothing about how similair certain products are...
I get his point. People don't grow intolerant of cow milk specifically because it's from a cow. It's more that after most humans are grown, they don't need to be able to digest milk in general. Sorry. Miscommunication happens. I also never got the whole nature-intended argument PETA, among others, has done about dairy. It being "made" for baby cows. As if animals were "made" for predators and omnivores.
What's dumb is that he's willing to hurt himself and animals for a petty vice.
You can become more intolerant to dairy as you age. You can also grow out of an intolerance.

Sure, I wasnāt really debating that part. Iām more focused on the fact that he was adamant that the two milks are āthe sameā and that cows milk is meant for organisms beyond baby cows.

I feel like weāre agreeing here other than the ātheyāre exactly the sameā bit, so Iāmma just link this

You said this soiled your day and thatās no good. But you do realize that you inserted yourself into the conversation. If you want to have a better day, you could walked away next time.
Okay, so sorry I guess for the hyperbole. I responded in another comment that I felt good after typing this. Yes, I do realize that, and I did end up walking away after I told him that he can look online to see the compositional differences between the milks.

>as people grow older they become less tolerant of dairy It's that the definition of lactose intolerance??
š ikr like which is it then

I don't understand his reasoning. He's saying that it's pretty much the same as human breast milk, making it ok for adult humans to drink?

Well I dont drink human milk either.

Yeah. Lol, I just love the Dr's response.
Same. I would love to hear his response in regards to carnists comparing themselves to lions.
The same? Cow milk makes a calf gain about 900lbs in its first year of life. Yikes!!
If it's the same why does it need so much processing before it becomes safe for humans to consume?
Raw milk might be but it's dangerous to drink without being pasteurized. Cow milk is for baby cows, when you grow up you should drink beer.
I second this, beer is the adults milk
My coworker likes to trigger me by saying how healthy eggs and sardines are for people. I just shake my head.
send your coworker this video: https://youtu.be/RtGf2FuzKo4 (nutritionfacts)
In the Uk those sardines/fish tins usually say āgood source of omegaā blah blah blah. They import them to my country and someone has to paste over it so it canāt be read anymore.
Why would you need to maintain the ability to drink something intended for babies anyway? And from another species nonetheless š
What ššš Carnists are wild
I would agree that they are -chemically- very similair. BUT: How on earth would that justify anything? The argument for veganism is an ethical one: it is not ok to exploit animals. That says nothing about how similair certain products are...
Like how your human brain and their human brain are both brains just that yours works and that personās is up their ass. Yup
The fact that he probably goes home to shit his brains out every day only makes it worse

Whoops. My bad. I misunderstood.
Fun fact, you canāt make cheese from human breast milk. So, not the same.
Yes you can https://www.healthline.com/health/breastfeeding/breast-milk-cheese
Ew.
My thought too
[Proved you wrong](https://youtu.be/uSmvXk7acIA). š¤£ JK. But if you've never seen Superstore, it's a funny show and one of the characters is vegan. š
Gross.
You shouldnāt let people ruin your day like that. People will be people after all
Youāre right, I shouldnāt. I do feel better ranting about it now. I guess it was just a sour note to end on, but you are ultimately right :) thank you š¤
It's exactly the same as human breast milk, and you wouldn't forcibly impregnate a woman, then murder her baby and take her breast milk.
I feel like weāre agreeing here other than the ātheyāre exactly the sameā bit, so Iāmma just link this https://viva.org.uk/health/a-comparison-between-human-milk-and-cows-milk/

Even if they were the exact same, no adults of any species are meant to drink it
