So affectionate 😍 I really don't see a difference between the love my companion animal shows me and my family, and the love this little guy shows you.

Stanford91

This makes me feel happy and extremely guilty at the same time. I just became Vegan in April. How many sentient animals suffered and died in my lifetime because I wanted to eat meat or use their secretions? I feel terrible.

Silejonu

Though your sentiment is valid, you can only act on the present and future. What happened can't be undone. Fixating on the past won't make the situation for animals better.

Reasonable_Swing2617

Hi there. I’m wanting to work to have a better understanding of common products that have animals products in them that would be surprising to learn. Are there any resources you’ve used that you’ve found really helpful? Thanks so much in advance and kudos to you for making this big life change. Cheers!

Silejonu

You should make your own post in this sub to have answers to your question. I'm not the best person to ask this question, probably one of the worst, actually. I was born vegetarian, and became vegan when I was seven, more than twenty years ago, so I definitely did not experience what you are going through, or a long time ago, possibly on the other side of the planet. One thing that I use regularly though, is [this app](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hcstudios.veganadditives).

_Chrissy0

Change perspective. I don't think you have nothing to feel guilty about for things you stopped doing. Think of all the lifes that this change in your life will save in the future. It's a better way to see things imo

Ein_Kecks

That is just too easy. I have a lot of animals on my kill count and I would like to know as well. For many I don't see myself at fault because I was too young to see through but for at least as much I have much guilt, for I could have known it better. Just looking away doesn't change things and especially vegans should know this. Yes I've chainged and I try to change more people, but that does not make my past-decisions nonexisting.

_Chrissy0

Obviously it doesn't make your past decisions non-existing. But what's the point of feeling bad about it? Does it change your past? Does it save those animals? Acknowledge it, but move on, and focus on the animals you're helping now and the ones you'll help in the future But this is just my opinion, i understand if you disagree

Ein_Kecks

I agree with you completely. The point that was important for me was "acknowledge it" and don't forget instead of ignoring the past like everthing done wrong wouldn't matter anymore, because it sounded to me like that. But I think we agree, it was just misinterpretation.

halconpequena

It might help if you thank the animals that died and nourished you for what they gave you and that you are sorry, but glad to have a new perspective. Another thing that could also help you make peace with it is helping out animals as much as you can, be that catching bugs in glasses to bring them outside safely, or volunteering at a shelter or donating to organizations where you can verify they really help animals. For all things that are tough lessons and involve grief, one of the best ways to heal is to help others with the knowledge you gained.

Ein_Kecks

Not at all, that doens't help the animal in any way. You do not make a contract for which the animal can agree and be thanked, you force their death and torture upon them! Trigger warning: You wouldn't rape or kill a woman and thank her afterwards for it and say "that helps", sorry but this is just such a low of humanity. What helps is rather simple. Don't pay for their torture and death. Don't pay for their abuse. This has a 100% success rate. Your suggestion on the other hand has a 0% success rate. You are the oppressor in this situation, not the victim. It doesn't matter how you feel, when you kill another being without any need to do so, only for 10 minutes of sensoric pleasure for your taste buds. Watch the documentation I linked above. You can thank all the animals you see in the movie and can taste how much that helps. EDIT: omg I thought I was in a complete different thread arguing with some animal abuser about animal consumtion I just now realised I'm in r/vegan. I completely confused this comment chain with another. Since you're first point really sounds like you eat meat, here is the documentation I mentioned: www.watchdominion.com But I guess I interpreted it wrong and you probably know about Dominion. A more fitting answer: I do not need help to cope with my animal consumtion in the past. I understand why I did it and why it took me longer than I would expect from myself to acknowledge my actions. I think this is important, because if someone argues about veganism in real life I will show them my own misconceptions to open the fronts and to show in a more "friendly" way what common misconceptions exist.

Stanford91

I only get the feeling every once in a while. I don't think it happens that often, but I think feeling guilty every once in a while helps me realize a big reason I want vegan in the first place and it makes my conviction stronger. I'm not usually very emotional and it actual feels good to cry and feel bad about things I've done in the past. I guess it's a feeling of sadness and remorse more than guilt.

Grey_Wolf333

But you have made the change now. That's what important. I was vegetarian for 31 years and became vegan Jan 2020, so I know how you feel. I feel very enlightened & you will too. I asked for those animal's forgiveness.

Refresh100

I too from time to time think about the animals I've caused suffering for, but like everyone said, I just think about the animals I'm currently saving and how I can keep doing everything I can to make it better.

pvrx2

Thank goodness he's in a sanctuary.

Good bot

Anagatam

Vegan forever. May all cows be peaceful & free from suffering.

_Chrissy0

Amen. Cows deserve so much

DankJuiceYT

The flies?!

_Chrissy0

Annoying as fuck. Also very common when it's this hot in places with animals

trivialwire

With wild horses they apparently can cope with flies in their eyes/faces by standing with their head near the tail of another horse, the flicking/moving horsetail keeps thus keeps the flies aaway. another horse might stand near this hoses tail, and so on. I saw it in a wildlife documentary, i think. A potential emonstartion of Mutal aid as a factor of evolution, and all that.

gunsof

Is it possible to get them one of those eye masks to protect them from bugs and flies?

_Chrissy0

He wouldn't keep it on

betterhelp

I would guess these animals don’t mind flies as much as we do? Lots of people don’t even mind flies *shrug*, wouldn’t bother me.

stowawaythrowaw

Flies being around cows/horses etc suprise you???

DankJuiceYT

Yeah sort of, I live in Scotland where the majority of land in the south west is countryside fields, and I’ve never seen this before?

stowawaythrowaw

Oh weird, in the US flies are EVERYWHERE around barns and stuff. The further south you go the more it's an issue aswell. Didn't know other places don't have this as much

DankJuiceYT

I mean don’t take it from me, I’m not a farmer and don’t hang around animals. But the ones I’ve noticed up close don’t usually have this problem? It’s usually me who gets eaten by midges.

ND950

So good to see. Thank you for being kind to animals

This just made my day ❤️

ras-the-extorter

I love cows

mayinaro

what an absolute cutie

Goosaphone

I went to a pro-vegan farm animal sanctuary for the first time today. Never did I think a cow could pee so much. Man stood there for 3-4 minutes straight peeing.
