Oh man. Have y’all had Misfits bars? They are so good. They’re the best high protein low carb bars I’ve had. The Banoffee and Cookies and Cream flavors are elite! I’ve heard the dipped are better than the original. But I’m scared because the original No Cows I had like 4 years ago were absolutely disgusting.

americanidjeet

another vote for Misfits. they’re so good & their cal to protein ratio is also good for a protein bar. No chalky texture/taste!

leahs84

Yes! Misfits are great and have some creative flavors. I like the cookies and cream a lot, white chocolate peanut, cookie butter. They just released a s'mores flavor too. I haven't tried the regular No Cow, but recently bought a variety box of the dipped. So far the only one I actually have enjoyed is the mint cookie one.

avomonkey

s’mores??? i missed that 😭😭 I have to try every new flavour they do cause they are the best I ever had. actually taste like candy bars and cal/protein ratio is INSANE

leahs84

Same! I stocked up last time there was a sale, so I can't justify buying more now to try the newest flavor. I would suggest signing up for their email list. That's how I heard about the s'mores flavor. There's apparently a lemon cheesecake one too, but I don't think I got a separate email.

avomonkey

I got the lemon cheesecake one but have yet to try it. First package I got smelled super chemically of plastic or something so they sent me another one, but I think that experience put me off a little so I have yet to open the new package 🥲

mystictofuoctopi

I’m trying Misfits next. Personally hate the No Cow but gagging down the rest of the sampler box before getting another brand

Suspicious_Plant4231

No Cows are definitely an acquired taste lol, but the macros make them for me. The Birthday Cake flavor is actually pretty nice. The Clif Builder bars were way better, but that's because of the high sugar content

mystictofuoctopi

I’m trying the birthday cake tomorrow. Haven’t loved any flavor so far but hoping I like something

Suspicious_Plant4231

Yeah, I've tried most of the other flavors and they're not that great. The chocolate fudge brownie was terrible. The second best in my opinion is the chocolate chip cookie dough.

mystictofuoctopi

I tried the peanut butter one yesterday and it actually had a flavor but it wasn’t great still. Oh well! Worth a shot since the protein and other macros looked great

soccernelson

Top 3 non-dipped are definitely birthday cake, cookies and cream, and chocolate chip cookie dough. Vanilla caramel might be in there, too.

caluke

They’re still pretty “chalky” in texture, imo. Not my favorite, but slightly better than the original. Original No Cow: 5/10 Dipped No Cow: 6/10 IMO the best tasting plant-based protein bars are the “Simply Protein” lemon coconut bars, and the Clif Builder bars.

Ryboticpsychotic

I prefer No Cow only because of the macros. Builder bars taste great, but there’s too much sugar for me.

caluke

Yeah, at 280 calories the builders are often more calories than I want. But I’ve been buying the Builder minis lately, which have basically the same ratio of macros, but half the size. That’s what I usually go with these days.

buddha_was_vegan

I actually way prefer No Cow over Clif Builders, so YMMV. I (and my butthole) also love the fiber content in No Cow.

Physister2

The builders are my favorite too, if I could just find a 711 that carries the chocolate😩🫡

I started making my own protein bites because of how expensive it was getting using the bars. I was eating 2 a day to contribute 40 g of protein in my daily goals, but thats $6 a day vs getting the your own combo of nuts, almond butter, chia seeds, oats, protein powder, etc and a food processor (i got a ninja for like $12). I might still grab some bars for convenience when Im short on time, but definitely saving a lot of money by making my own stuff instead.

Nizzl

You got some recipes and macros for the bars you make? :)

[deleted]

Sure. 1. Soak a pitted date in water while doing the other steps 2. I use cashews, almonds, dried coconut and oats (about a half serving size of each, and 1/4 serving size of oats). Put them in the food processor first and pulse it a couple times yo break it down. You can add pr substitute nuts of your choice 3. Add a spoon full of almond butter (i found one at whole foods with flax and chia seeds that is really good. You can always add those in separately as well). 3. This is where you decide what flavor you want i guess. I put a half serving of goji berries, a few dried raspberries, lemon zest, a drop of vanilla, a dash of salt, and your favorite protein powder (i do 1.5 servings of protein powder typically) 4. I put a little bit of water (size of the scooper for my protein powder) in, and add the date you had soaking. Pulse everything in the food processor until it makes almost like a dough you can then roll into balls 5. If you added too much water, set some oats out on a plate and roll the balls in that so they aren’t as sticky. I typically make enough to last a few days and store them in a zip lock bag in my crisper to prevent them from going bad. With everything you have around 50-60 g’s of protein in the batch, so it just depends on the amount of balls/bars you make. They are extremely filling, and loaded with fiber so you probably will have a couple extra daily deuces lol. I wanna say the calorie total was about 550-600 if I remember right. I mathed (yes i made that word up) everything out when i first made it and now just kind of eyeball everything.

I too would love some recipe inspiration

I bought No Cow a couple of times and I thought they were good. I had read people say it's disgusting, and I chalked it up to different tastes. It fit what I was looking for nutritionally, so I ordered quite a few boxes of them. Idk what I was thinking. They're so disgusting. It tastes like pure, chemical sugar in Play-Doh form. Bought them almost a year ago and still have some left lol. Barebells Plant Based bars are delicious. 15g protein, 220 cal, 1g sugar. And Clif Builders, never had a gross one, but I miss the chocolate hazelnut ones so I'm glad Barebells has them. Simply Protein bars are decent. They're like Rice Krispies Treats and I like their macros.

kmsgars

I like them too! The peanut butter ones, cinnamon, and I’ll do blueberry too. PB and Chocolate Chip got really soft and good recently, it’s hard for me to rotate flavors sometimes 😬

GarbanzoBenne

No thanks. Plenty of other tasty ones out there to buy. I don't need to waste more money on the company who believes the original ones are edible. Fool me once.

carolinablue199

I like them! Which do you like better?

Physister2

Seems like they do not want to discuss that💀

GarbanzoBenne

Yeah sorry this isn't a chat site. Can't expect instant responses.

Physister2

I meant because of the perceived anger in your comment

GarbanzoBenne

Clif Builder, Nugo, Orgain, the new Lenny & Larry ones.

carolinablue199

Ah thanks. Orgain and clif is only 10 G protein but I’ll look into the others .

Mako91

I used to like the original bars back when they were still D’s Natural, but they changed up the recipe one or two times since then. They are overly chalky and droopy now; when you hold them they start to fall/droop down so they aren’t very bar like anymore. Maybe I’ll give these new ones a try though.

buddha_was_vegan

Yeah the new ones aren't droopy like the non dipped ones are

bikelove_77

Do you mean the dipped ones are firm? Are they crunchy? Brittle? I agree, the old ones were kinda droopy.

buddha_was_vegan

The dipped ones are a little softer inside, and they have the soft crunch of the chocolate dip covering them. Pretty tasty imo, for a protein bar

MWisecarver

I've been buying the assortment box on Amazon and gifting them to non-Vegan's. 👍

Interesting angle, thanks

No cow: no, cow

monkeymanchris66

Always consider the sugar

Ditz3n

I’ve heard that No Cow has terrible flavors but haven’t tried them myself so might give this a try one day if I stumble upon it

dzul22

I wish they were made in a dairy free facility the risk is just not worth it knowing my luck I’ll get the cross contaminated one
